The Golden Ball Inn in Rotherham

We had an excellent Sunday lunch; the mains were great - good roasts and accompaniments. The coffee with mini desserts was not so good - we finished our coffees before the desserts arrived. Desserts not as good as mains … Overall good value for money, very good service, excellent location, lovely atmosphere. Very likely to return!

The Pub itself is has a load of street appeal, looks inviting a good old British Pub.

Enjoyed a lovely meal here ,the steaks are cooked perfectly ,the service was friendly. Cannot fault the staff .The only criticism would be the musty smell in the bar area. Maybe a one off, so won't put me off returning.

Just read a review that Heinz’s soup was offered as soup of the day , we were also offered this and were told it was because of a delivery mix up and Heinz’s was sent instead of the usual pouches of soup ???? Would have assumed the soup would be homemade , sadly not . The meal we had was ok but overpriced , overall rather disappointed , service was good , food not so good ☹️

We had table off 4 people !! 2 people's meals OK, But, then, 1 starter prawn cocktail was not good, really not good!!!!simple starter, absolutely bland / tasteless!!!!! Ordered fishcakes which were only adequate, the sauce, hollandaise!!!! No comment!!! Service was good 👍, but what was absolutely unbelievable was , soup off the day was 🙄 Heinz tomato soup !!! Yes out of a tin and £6.75 . Golden Ball has disappointed big time. Sorry I had to give this review but felt it was necessary !!!!!!!! Have tried to resond to your reply, un successfully !!!!! But your comments regarding soup of the day , are totally incorrect, as your server/front of house who was confident in relaying the reasons of Heinz tomato soup of the day , didnt give any other option of soup, no children were mentioned that this was for children only !!!

I really like the Golden Ball. It was nice that the fire was lit this time as it can be cold in there. I really like the re- jigging of the menu and the additions and continuing favourites of this classic Vintage Inn, unlike the food at the Contemporary Vintage Inns which is disappointing and overpriced when compared to some other very lovely restaurants around. The staff often make a good pub, and this is also true of the Golden Ball. Thank you to Louise and Ryan.

Absolutely the best pub food I've had in South Yorkshire. It gets busy so try to book ahead. Pricey but it's worth it for a treat.

We visit the golden ball quite often and have got to know Becca and her team and I must say they are all fabulous and very welcoming….also pub and atmosphere is second to none, that’s why we keep going back… beautiful village pub.

Tried this place for lunch as our usual place was fully booked. I thought it was a little overpriced for what they were offering but thought maybe it would be home cooked food. It isn't. The barmaid got my husbands order wrong, he did tell her but ate what she bought anyway. We had the steak baguette with chips. The steak was very fatty and not edible in parts and the chips looked like the scraps from the bottom of the fryer. We left disappointed and won't go back again.

Very expensive for the type of food served, not exactly home made! Wine also very expensive for supermarket style bottles.

Went tonight very disappointed fish and chips batter over cooked. left to drink outside our table can see from outside staff walked past many times not removed it. Staff need work faster when pub is busy. Not impressed and price for fish and chips not recommended.🤷😐👎

Came here to sit in the garden with our dog, was made to feel so welcome and even had a dog station outside with water and biscuits. Had a number of bar snacks and drinks followed by pudding. Was the perfect relaxed summer afternoon with gorgeous food as usual. The tiramisu iced latte was amazing and catered for me not wanting cream.

Lovely sunny day and had some time to spare. Didn't fancy sitting in a stuffy coffee shop, so thought I'd enjoy an iced caramel lavAzza coffee. It was delicious and would thoroughly recommend. The pub was very busy, but Amy and Mackemzie were really efficient

Amazing country pub/restaurant with a very relaxed, yet professional feel. Becca and Ryan were so attentive and polite. Haddock and spinach fishcakes and indulgent beef lasagne cooked by Emma were both absolutely beautiful. Will definitely return and recommend.

In my life I have been to many a pub and drunk many a pint but the Golden Ball’s service put them all to shame. If anything I’m a little angry with the team there, they have ruined all other pubs. No matter how good a night I have, it will never measure up to the impossibly high standards set by Sarah and the team at the Golden Ball. Don’t change anything you’re perfect.

It's been a while since I last visited. I will be visiting more often. Lovely layout & atmosphere. Typical pub menu which was tasty, well priced and served beautifully by the staff. Great parking too, which makes life much easier.

Had a lovely family meal and was served by Holly and Mackenzie which were very helpful and friendly, great food and drink seating was comfortable, enjoyed my evening.

We have been coming for dinner with family for the last few months and have been so impressed what’s to leave a review and thank Mackenzie & holly who are exceptional, all the staff are excellent

We had a fabulous meal for 5 last night. The best pub meal I can remember. I had fish and chips. The fish was huge. The chips crispy. Mushy peas and tartar sauce finished it off nicely. My friends had a salad, curry, pie and pizza. Everyone was very happy with the food and the service from Louise & Bev.

We have been before as a family as we enjoyed the busy friendly atmosphere... However on this occasion it was not as enjoyable! It was very busy, and we had to wait at our table (15mins ish) before getting a drink, BUT this was not the issue! The issue was when we came to order our drinks, I myself ordering a bottle of wine, for me and my daughter. At this point the server asked for some ID. which in itself is completely normal... not on this occasion. She stood gawking at the ID for at least 3 mins, saying to my daughter "born in 2001 were you"???? and holding it towards the light so she could "see better"!!! When she had eventually finished I said "Wow" that was intense! Which she replied, "yeah well I have to be sure" Let me just start by saying I completely understand the importance of ID checks and the management of under age drinking is something I fully support! However, my daughter is 22, and looks it! and for her to be humiliated like that in the middle of a busy restaurant in my opinion was completely unnecessary! We were out as a family having a meal on a Friday night in Whiston for goodness sake! having a glass of wine with her meal! Like I said originally I fully support ID Checks but just a word of advice...Teach your staff to ask for its respectfully!! We wont be revisiting...

Food was nice. No issue with service other than it was busy and they looked a bit under staffed on the day we visited.

My friend had to send a steak sandwich back as it was chewy, but it was dealt with efficiently and without a fuss, she ordered a chicken burger and it was really good. We all had a good experience.

Very tasty well prepared and presented food, good choice on the menu, have registered on the Vintage Inns rewards club , great introductory offer. Excellent service in well maintained surroundings. Will be going again soon. Plenty of parking in dedicated car park, always been a good feature of this pub over the 40 years or so I have been using it.

Lovely pub, staff were great, being able to take our dog in and actually being able to have a meal with him with us at the table was brilliant, (most dog friendly pubs only allow them in but not in the dining area)and they accommodated our request of a quiet corner table, meal was excellent, will definitely be returning 🙂

The Golden Ball Inn has a great atmosphere with a diverse clientele, good for all ages. The beer is good, the food is good and the service was great. We had a nice relaxed meal.

Visited today first time for a long time, looking for a new favourite pub/restaurant to visit regularly, food was excellent, drinks more expensive that most pubs, had joined reward scheme as a new visitor and wanted to use £20 discount offer but QR code wouldn’t work and staff member said this is a recurring issue, so we didn’t get the discount. If this is a recurring problem then find a way around it and give the customer what is promised! Won’t be using any vintage pubs if this is the way customers are treated!

Took mum for mothers day. Amelia and Bev were great and really made every effort to ensure we were all ok. Will be back.

Party of six celebrating a birthday/late Mothers Day. Service was quick, efficient and friendly but not intrusive. Everything brought to table hot and as ordered. Big thanks to Louise, Amelia and Ryan who looked after us really well. Will definitely return.

As a work team we often pop to The Golden Ball for a celebration meal. The food is always spot on and even if we are a large group our meals all come out at once (sign of a great, organised kitchen!) Shout out to Bev & Louise for their great service.

It can be so difficult to eat out healthily. Really healthily, and have a pleasing tasty meal. The greens and grains salad fits the bill. Low in calories and saturated fats it oozes flavours as well bright colours of different salad vegetables and fruit.

Absolutely love this pub 5 star customer service friendly and A class service all staff was very welcoming the food was outstanding delivered to a high standard.
