5 ⭐️ family lunch out. Friendly and professional service. The empty plates from all 8 of us spoke for it self. Every dish was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Thank you Bev and Helena as always. We'll see you both very soon. X

I visited The Golden Ball with my wife and stepdaughter. When we walked into to bar/restaurant the place was very busy. We had pre-booked a table and even though it was really busy we were shown to our table quickly. We were approached by waitress for the even who was Holly. Holly quickly asked for our drinks order and brought us the menus and cutlery. Once we had had chance to look over the menus Holly was back to take our orders. Again, even though the place was very busy Holly was attentive to us. Once our food was ordered it quickly came out and was served to us. We had the starters and when they were done with the main course quickly followed. The food was so nice me and my wife decided to have puddings. Throughout this dining experience we had the best service from Holly. The food was excellent, the service second to none. Thank you very much.

Went for our tea. Had the offer of 2 courses £25 or 3 £30, plus the normal menu. Holly was our waitress and was attentive without being annoying. Starters came quickly and were lovely, plenty of time before the mains arrived. Decided on desserts. Food was lovely, with no issues. Will definitely be going again.

Took an hour and 15 to get our lunches, and when it did arrive it was lukewarm. Shame as our previous was excellent. Guessing they were short staffed in the kitchen, if you're having issues, just let the customers know, some of us understand.

Decided to come with daughter and really enjoyed our food. Staff friendly and lovely pub nice and chilled. Will come back soon.

Unfortunately, this was one of the worst Sunday roasts I’ve had. If you plan to dine here, I’d strongly recommend going earlier in the day to avoid smaller, reheated portions. Service was extremely slow. We ended up going to the bar for drinks ourselves. Our food arrived after an hour, and sadly, it was almost inedible. The beef was cold, tough, and dry, with most of it left untouched. Roast potatoes were sparse and clearly reheated, turning rubbery yet somehow still arriving cold. The lamb was mostly fat, and the parsnips were either rock-hard or disturbingly slug-like in texture. After waiting for so long, we ultimately cancelled our dessert order and requested the bill. The entire meal gave the impression that it had been pre-cooked in the morning and kept warm under heat lamps rather than freshly prepared. Staff never checked in on us, and while I would have raised concerns, I doubt anything could have been done to salvage the meal. We also overheard the table next to us also complaining about feeling forgotten due to the slow service. That said, the pub itself is lovely for drinks, I’d just skip the food next time.

We went to celebrate a birthday having been a couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed both occasions. The staff are great and the food was lovely. Would definitely recommend it for any occasion or just for a night out.

We come 3 or 4 times a year for Sunday lunch and have never been disappointed, the service this wee was exceptionally good

Very generous portions of lovely food. Staff were very friendly. A few people turned up with dogs and were turned away or had to sit outside, which in the winter isn’t appealing. The kind of countryside area it’s in you’d assume dogs would have an area of the pub that they’d be allowed.

Had a brilliant meal with great friends to celebrate birthdays, the staff were lovely and the food was excellent.

haven't been the pub for long time, we visited again due to the pub offer lunch special and special discount on the week. the rib eye steak was tender and lamb shank was tasty. the sticky toffee pudding was too small, will not order in the future. mini dessert and hot drink was good.

Had a family meal and a few drinks here today and it was outstanding! The food was just out of this world, no faults at all. Great selection of drinks and the choice of starters, mains etc takes you a while to decide! The staff know their stuff and are very quick and easy going! Definitely 5 stars! ⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There were a bunch of regulars stood around drinking at the bar preventing people from getting to the bar. One bloke just laid his rucksack across the bar whilst drinking and chatting to his mates making it hard to see what handpulls were on offer. He could see people were trying to get served around him but didn't seem bothered, nor did the staff who seemed to know him - just felt clicky and not a pleasant atmosphere in my opinion. I wasn't going to mention any of this but as you've asked for feedback that's it. No major problem but it's not somewhere I'd not return for a drink.

Staff were friendly and efficient, food was very good although we had to return a bowl of mushy peas which were 90% liquid. A little bit pricey for lunch.

It was our first visit here. It was really busy but Bev and Louise did an excellent job of serving everyone efficiently and with a smile. The food was excellent and the price competitive. We will definitely return.

Perfect Sunday Lunch On a horrible snowy day the food made it worth the effort of coming out. Smaller portion for my mum and gluten free for my husband. It's a shame there was no Yorkshire pudding for him although the amount of meat put a smile on his face. Well worth anyone visiting.

This was a family Christmas get together for 10 people. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. We were given a varied menu, either Christmas or regular choice and all the food ordered was excellent. It was a lovely welcoming atmosphere and we felt really looked after, I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Great food and excellent service, a proper pub

My personal meal was the pork belly, this was not cooked to perfection, the outer skin was not crispy as I would have cooked it. The spoonful of cabbage was OK. But my 2 sprouts were rubbery like they were frozen. The roast carrots and parsnip were burnt for the last 2inch. The 4 roast potatoes were small and not roasted particularly well, with a small gravy boat 2/3 full of watery gravy. As per usual the staff came round asking if everything was OK. This annoys me, as everyone else had a different meal, didn't like sprouts or were in fact happy with their meal. I'm certain that the person who put my meal together on my plate were quite aware that 2 sprouts were put on my plate and that the pork was not cooked properly and that the carrots and parsnips were burnt. The quality that a customer receives their food starts in the kitchen. This is paramount. Sadly it should never be necessary for a review to be posted due to the kitchen staff not doing their job properly or not caring about the quality of the food. Not wishing to put a cloud over the family meal event I paid the bill and didn't leave a verbal comment but I won't be going back. Very poor

Lovely, cosy pub with friendly service! We went for Boxing Day and enjoyed an amazing 3 course meal. We were served by Marcy, Ryan and Gracie. They were all warm and welcoming and delivered exceptional customer service. We love this pub and will definitely be back again soon 😊

We ordered from the festive menu and I was disappointed. I have the pork which was stringy and I could not chew it. I ordered a side order of sprouts at an extra cost and was surprised to discover they were frozen sprouts, I expected fresh given the price. My friends had Turkey and a veg option and were satisfied with their meals.

Absolutely lovely. Went here for my brothers birthday and the service received from our servers Louise and Becca was impeccable. Very attentive, informative and received a service with a smile. Louise and Becca served our drinks also, so we didn’t have to get up and down to the bar. We were never without a drink. The food was absolutely lovely. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food choices. This was a busy Saturday night and they didn’t fail on service and food like other places do in busy times. We will definitely be back. Thank you

Bizarre system for dietary requirements. You have to agree you've read their terms and conditions about allergies etc which puts you through to a page where you can see what allergens are in which foods. However, after picking something suitable, you go to order it they say that it does contain that allergen afterall and that's just the national menu that doesn't. The staff had to go back and forth to the kitchen to check whether what I was ordering was in fact free of the relevant allergens. Was a big waste of time and was still fairly disappointing. Service score based on the above not the staff as they were perfectly nice.

The first time I’ve been in this pub for thirty years and it’s changed a lot. It was and still is a quintessential english village pub. It has a tipicalwarm and welcoming feeling as soon as you walk through the door and is a welcome change from your average estate pub which there are many a few miles away. We came on the night to celebrate a birthday and we were not disappointed . The bar has a good selection of beers and lagers and a nice range of wines, something for everyone. We chose our meals from the celebration menu which like the drinks had a good and varied selection. The food was exceptional and I have to be honest and say it wasn’t what I was expecting. All our meals were very good and there was an obvious care in the presentation which made them even better. The service here was also exceptional being friendly and very efficient at the same time. All in all this was a great night out and great dining experience so our thanks here goes to all those involved including and not forgetting the kitchen staff. Would I recommend this place to friends.,,,,absolutely.

Great local pub. Not the cheapest menu but the choice of dish is great and the food is of excellent quality.

The Pub itself is has a load of street appeal, looks inviting a good old British Pub.

We had an excellent Sunday lunch; the mains were great - good roasts and accompaniments. The coffee with mini desserts was not so good - we finished our coffees before the desserts arrived. Desserts not as good as mains … Overall good value for money, very good service, excellent location, lovely atmosphere. Very likely to return!

Enjoyed a lovely meal here ,the steaks are cooked perfectly ,the service was friendly. Cannot fault the staff .The only criticism would be the musty smell in the bar area. Maybe a one off, so won't put me off returning.

We had table off 4 people !! 2 people's meals OK, But, then, 1 starter prawn cocktail was not good, really not good!!!!simple starter, absolutely bland / tasteless!!!!! Ordered fishcakes which were only adequate, the sauce, hollandaise!!!! No comment!!! Service was good 👍, but what was absolutely unbelievable was , soup off the day was 🙄 Heinz tomato soup !!! Yes out of a tin and £6.75 . Golden Ball has disappointed big time. Sorry I had to give this review but felt it was necessary !!!!!!!! Have tried to resond to your reply, un successfully !!!!! But your comments regarding soup of the day , are totally incorrect, as your server/front of house who was confident in relaying the reasons of Heinz tomato soup of the day , didnt give any other option of soup, no children were mentioned that this was for children only !!!

Just read a review that Heinz’s soup was offered as soup of the day , we were also offered this and were told it was because of a delivery mix up and Heinz’s was sent instead of the usual pouches of soup ???? Would have assumed the soup would be homemade , sadly not . The meal we had was ok but overpriced , overall rather disappointed , service was good , food not so good ☹️

I really like the Golden Ball. It was nice that the fire was lit this time as it can be cold in there. I really like the re- jigging of the menu and the additions and continuing favourites of this classic Vintage Inn, unlike the food at the Contemporary Vintage Inns which is disappointing and overpriced when compared to some other very lovely restaurants around. The staff often make a good pub, and this is also true of the Golden Ball. Thank you to Louise and Ryan.

Absolutely the best pub food I've had in South Yorkshire. It gets busy so try to book ahead. Pricey but it's worth it for a treat.

We visit the golden ball quite often and have got to know Becca and her team and I must say they are all fabulous and very welcoming….also pub and atmosphere is second to none, that’s why we keep going back… beautiful village pub.

Tried this place for lunch as our usual place was fully booked. I thought it was a little overpriced for what they were offering but thought maybe it would be home cooked food. It isn't. The barmaid got my husbands order wrong, he did tell her but ate what she bought anyway. We had the steak baguette with chips. The steak was very fatty and not edible in parts and the chips looked like the scraps from the bottom of the fryer. We left disappointed and won't go back again.
