Nice breakfast place Beef lasagna was nice Self service for water, cutlery. Pay first

Far too much food on the plate. Had cheese on toast. Two pieces of cheese on toast with half a ton of chopped bacon on top. Much too much and rather off putting. Hate food waste and I left most of the bacon and half a piece of the toast. A couple of rashes of bacon would have been much nicer. All over the restaurant food was left as far too much served. Lovely place to sit with the sun shining through the windows and service was brilliant!

It is always a pleasure to visit the tearooms. We arrived for lunch. It was busy, but a table was available, clean and tidy, and the food is always to a good standard. If you have never been before, I highly recommend the cakes.... you won't be disappointed!!

We enjoyed a lovely brunch here. Service was friendly and efficient from start to finish. Breakfast was super tasty - hot, fresh and arrived in good time. We returned later for takeaway cakes which were also excellent. Clean, fresh and tastefully decorated interior with a nice atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Vastly overpriced for what you get, not just with quantity but quality too. I'd expect table ordering at this price point but even with till ordering the staff are generally not very interested in you and make you feel as though you're interupting their day. I've been to far better places locally that provide good service, quality food and much, much better value. The location is nice, although this doesn't mitigate against the bad points.

Ideal location on the green not far from town or beach. Coronation chicken jacket potato was generous, tasted great and came with a well thought out side salad with dressing, it is noisy, they could do more to dampen the noise with soft fabrics or better sound absorbing products on the walls and ceilings.

Food was a little cold and Iwas spoken nicely too by management. The Southsea branch wasn’t very nice at all but Gunwharf was much better. Honestly, the staff didn’t look happy to work there. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Had a full English and coffee here. Food came out really soon after we ordered and was a great way to start the day.

Went for breakfast a few days back it felt a bit over priced for what you got. Didn't help it was all served on a very large plate so looked like even less. The actual place was really nice and clean and the staff were lovely just a bit let down by the food. I didn't have any but I have heard great things about the cakes there so I may have missed out.

Lovely spot with great food but strangely rude staff. Almost seems like some sort of nepotism is going on as half of the staff are unprofessional and rude while the other half are what you would expect. The welcome person is always on their phone and the till/bar staff have been consistently rude and unwelcoming. Staff is the only thing that lets it down. Food is fantastic and very well priced.

Disappointing visit. Went mid afternoon (around 2pm), good service however food was really not great. Ordered a club sandwich and both the chicken and the bacon were very dry, not fresh and succulent. Also ordered the all day breakfast stack, the bacon was chewy again, the eggs were completely overcooked (almost completely hard fried), and the breakfast was served with some random (not particularly fresh) bread as opposed to toast which would’ve been much better with a breakfast. Cakes were good, however VERY pricey, £19.80 for 4 slices of cake! I realise prices are going up across the board, but in other coffee shops cakes are closer to the £3.75-£4 mark. We used to love Parade Tea Rooms but don’t think we’ll bother coming back :(

Had an unplanned breakfast here with the family. Food was great. I'll be going again.

Has unfortunately gone so downhill. Visited on a quiet early afternoon. Not a very friendly welcome, shown to a table and told to order at the counter. Ordered food and drinks. Drinks aren’t served to your table, you have to wait for them to be made and carry the tray back yourself. Food was tasty but so unbelievably overpriced. Only paid it because it was a birthday celebration. £19.50 for a salad, I was expecting better. Nobody ever came to check it was ok. Took 45 minutes after we’d finished eating for the table to be cleared. Cakes ordered and I was charged incorrectly. Most were just ok but the lemon meringue was absolutely vile. The sugar in the meringue topping wasn’t dissolved. It was fully gritty. The sizes of the cakes were very inconsistent too. All 5 were different sizes. This used to be the place to go for yummy cakes and great service but unfortunately I won’t return after being a customer for the last 8 - 10 years. I’ll pop down the road to the Tenth Hole in future.

Our first time visiting this venue having wanted to try it for some time. What a disappointment it was. We've never visited an establishment where one is required to wait to be seated, but then expected to queue at a till to place an order. That aside, the view across the green was beautiful while we waited for our food, which was promptly delivered. However, the quality and portions where abysmal. My wife's poached eggs on her benedict were overcooked and the cooked breakfast was frankly a pathetic excuse for a full english. The bacon and sausage were cheap quality and over-cooked in an oven. Accompanied by a solitary mushroom, a single egg and a frozen hashbrown for £12. Not recommended on this occasion.

Ordered a bacon and egg sandwich, smelt a bit strange, didn’t want to make a fuss in front of friends. Now have stomach ache and feel quite queasy!

Came into the Tea room on 31st May, staff were very friendly and helpful, ordered the club sandwiches that's where the rating falls down for me, the chicken was dry, bacon part way between crispy and pink and there was too much mustard it overpowered everything else in the sandwich. Overall a good place to go just needs a few tweaks to make it great.

Our experience today was mixed, we found the service quite frosty and the food expensive for what you get served. I paid £5.50 for a kids jacket potato and it was half of a small jacket potato that had clearly been reheated or sat in an oven all day because it was dry and had that overdone taste, this was for my 10 month old baby and I’d say it wasn’t even enough for him! It would have been a bit of a joke if I’d ordered it for my older children. I had the mac n cheese which was a big bowl however it was bland, not that cheesy and starchy, served with a cheap baguette. It was served piping hot though so can’t fault that but for just shy of £14 I’d expect better. Coffee was really nice, can’t speak for the cake as we didn’t have any but it all looked amazing. We are from out of the area visiting family so although I wouldn’t rush back, I would definitely visit again and try cake.

Always enjoyed visiting this place, it's in a perfect location not far from Southsea town centre and the seafront. The gluten free selection of cakes and sweet treats is great - there always seems to be a homemade millionaires slice or shortbread available and they are delicious, and more often than not there's a GF sponge cake too. Although, I would like to see some GF options in the refrigerated section (a fresh cream gâteau or cheesecake wouldn't go a miss - it would really set the apart from other cake shop/cafes).

I enjoyed a very nice English breakfast with tea here.

There's usually always a long wait for a table but it's because everybody loves them! Always worth the trip in my opinion, definitely recommend

Expensive bog standard breakfast. Very disappointed. Had full English. Plate was too big! Toast under done and had to ask for a side plate and had to pay extra for tea. Most places include tea. Nothing special. Would not recommend.

£20 for a breakfast an a coffee. Shameful. Burnt black pudding, a spoon full of beans. You will get better value for you money in a greasy spoon and you’d get better quality ingredients. Avoid this place

First time here. Food is great. However the service is mediocre. In fact what service am I talking about? The place is disguised as a cafe where infact it’s a takeaway. No table service what’s so ever! We were not even informed of that and made us wait for 10mins without knowing. Got our plates with no cutlery or napkins! I guess they don’t receive many ethnic people here!

Its a lovely place. I have been a couple of times before but this time I was very disappointed. I had a vegetarian breakfast which was not worth the money. A bit bland and a bit on the cold side. Maybe next time I will have a coffee and cake as the cakes look delicious.

The tea rooms have a smart appearance and are set on the edge of a small park area overlooking greenery and beyond. It is very busy and we had to queue for about 20 minutes to get a table, but it was a Saturday afternoon, so understandably busy (you cannot book). The staff kept us informed of how long our wait might be and we didn't feel abandoned. We ordered a traditional English tea and could have probably shared one between two, but we were feeling flush! Needless to say, we had to take the cake home in a box! Their range of cakes was really interesting. This tea room offers plenty of savoury options, lunch menus, etc which looking around us, looked very good indeed. Only small downside is that there isn't table service so you have to go up to the counter area to order.

We’ve been here before and had a lovely brunch but today was really average. Had menus thrown at us and not made to feel very welcome at all. Poached eggs not runny and hash browns over cooked. Sad to say we won’t return.

I visited this place on Saturday with my mum and dad. It was my mums birthday so we visited Southsea Pier and then this place for lunch. I had called a few places beforehand but no one seemed to take bookings and on a random we chose this pace. We were informed that they do get busy but we would get in. Luckily, we arrived at 2pm and only waited a few minutes before entering and being seated. My mum uses a scooter and she was able to gain access (I had asked if they were wheelchair accessible on the phone and they said they are). There is a wooden beam on the door floor around half an inch on entry but we were able to enter. There is space for wheelchairs here and a disabled toilet, which was very clean. This place is very busy and from the food we ate, I can see why. I had the cod sandwich and chips, my mum had the quiche and my dad had the mac & cheese with bacon. It arrived quickly after ordering and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I am very fussy so this was great for me as I usually find food disappointing. My parents eat almost anything and said the mains were very good. We then ordered a dessert each, tiramisu, lemon meringue and lemon meringue cheesecake. These desserts were absolutely divine. They looked fabulous and didn't disappoint. That made me happy as I love desserts and there is nothing worse than eating one and it being subpar. The staff are polite and helpful. Here a few negatives that didn't take away from how great this place is, but could be worked on, hence the 4 stars. My dad was overcharged the first time we went up for the mains and drinks by £18.95. Once sat down I looked at the receipt as I didn't think it sounded right. Once I noticed I went back up and they quickly issued an apology and refund. He was then shortchanged the second time when he paid for the desserts by £5.00. I queried this and again, they apologised and gave us the money. The young man said he is learning the tils and apologised. When the mains came, a young lady gave them to us but didn't tell us where to get the cutlery and had left before I could ask. I found them myself but I was walking around like a headless chicken until I found them. Overall we really liked this place and will be back the next time we visit Southsea.

Really lovely tearoom, can only compliment the selection of cakes as we didn't try any (not on the Slimming World plan ). Jacket potato was great, coffee was good too. Only 3 stars for atmosphere cos it got very noisy, there's no sound absorbing materials in the space. Toilets were immaculate

Great location and despite it being busy we got a table and the breakfasts were delivered quickly. Lovely inside with a nice vibe. I think the queue at the counter speaks for itself when it comes to the popularity of the Parade Tea Rooms, have never been disappointed visiting here or the one in Gunwharf. Finally the Cakes are scrummy.

No terrace, too indoors, good cake if a bit over-decorated.

The range and appearance of the food is good, but the initial appearance is not followed through with a good overall experience. I had the pancakes which had golden syrup rather than the advertised maple syrup. Also the staff looked bored and all service was done with similar gusto. Not a welcoming atmosphere or quality food

Why is this the second time I’m writing this review ?? And it’s not being shown the food was substandard for the price I paid ! The service was lots of young people staring into the air! Really saddened I came here when Ii first opened few years ago. Was visiting the area! The owner Mark is great but need to sort the food out…

Have been many times to the popular Parade in the past but this was our first visit for a while. The decor remains very stylish. The cakes are still eye-catching but the prices have gone up and portion sizes have gone down. The Jayne Salad at £16.95 was over-priced, small in comparison and lack-lustre. The cod fish finger sandwiches with crisps were not those lovely chunky 'proper' battered cod. Gone are the lovely bowls of side salad with coleslaw and a strawberry or blackberry, replaced instead with a few leaves. Lots of those little extras are missing. The staff were indifferent and a lot of 'service' is self-service ie collection of cutlery, glasses of water, carrying of loaded trays to table. Rick Stein is offering a 3 course lunch for under £18 pp and The Ivy, a 2 course for £19.10. For the price of our light lunch, we could have eaten 2 main courses with vegetables etc elsewhere which, sadly, in future we will.

First time eating here and was looking forward to trying somewhere new.. Didn't really feel that welcoming. Nobody asked if everything was satisfactory. Didnt even get acknowledged when I left. It's overpriced and very cramped. Given the plethora of eateries locally, I won't be returning. Disappointed.

Well disappointed is the word. My wife is a vegetarian and well we should checked the menu before hand as veggie choices are Al but nothing. Lunch is a salad that they remove the bacon from and baked potato with cheese and all food is made of site so you can’t request anything and weirdly the sweetener reacts with the milk so not pleasant to look at. Don’t think we will be going back. Oh if you’re a vegan forget it.

My daughter took me for Mother’s Day breakfast this morning. I love this place and will be back again. We got there about 8.20am and had the full breakfast, it was only warm so quite disappointing. We will be back to give it another try. But bit of a let down. Jacqueline

My daughter treated us to a breakfast snack, and my husband had a club sandwich, both very tasty, perfection. Beautiful view, comfy and clean. Friendly, and fabulous service. Definitely recommend.

Had some American pancakes here. The food was quite good, but nothing spectacular (a bit overpriced for what it is) with tasteless bacon and golden syrup instead of actual maple syrup. The service is nice but a bit dry, would be nice to experience a bit more energy and warmth. Really beautiful location. Very nice on a sunny day.

I had Eggs Benedict & the wife went for a Full English. They were ok, nothing special really. If this tea room was a flavour - it would be vanilla. Fine for a lazy day out. Location is nice looking out over the recreation ground.

We had a lovely time, we had delicious cheesecake, and a lovely coffee and tea. I put 4 stars due to the lack of vegetarian and gf options. My friend is veggie and she didn't have many options for lunch which was a shame, but the cakes were amazing.

We visited the Parade Tea Rooms for breakfast, very pleasant surroundings, the staff were helpful and polite, always a smile. The breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended.

The food was ok but they should have in menu level of spice, for example chicken flatbread that my mum and sister had was very spicy and the menu didn’t have any indications of the spiciness of the dish. All will be good but we were disgusted of lady at the front door, she was rude, constantly on the phone and at the end she didn’t say bye or thank you even though we did say it to her. I think someone working on the front should at least smile so it makes you want to come back!!

Definitely will go back again. This place is perfectly cosy for a cold winter day.

We’ve been going here for ages and the food and atmosphere has always been good however recently the food quality is getting worse and the staff particularly those on the till are so utterly rude it ruins the whole experience.

Lovely food, location and atmosphere! Slightly disappointed by the lack of service, there were (at least) 5 different staff members behind the counter and yet we had to bring our own drinks and cutlery to the table.

Be aware of the incorrect calculation of the total amount of the bill. I have been to this Tea Room for two years but recently I have come across very unpleasant experiences twice at the till when processing the payment. A young lady staff (the same staff at my twice experiences) at the till charged me more than my actual bill expenses. When I questioned the exact amount of the bill, she reacted very impolitely and ruthlessly. Without saying a word of apology and finally correcting the amount of the payment machine. Hope the manager could see this review and make some responses.

What's gone wrong? The food is bad and the staff can't be bothered with customers. I ordered two breakfasts when served the food was cold the two lattes come only half a cup when I complained all I got was a huff and a bad look on the waitress face. This place used to be so nice and friendly but now I certainly won't come back. I would advise people to keep away and don't waste your money

Went down Sunday for a family breakfast. We ordered 3 full English, and an eggs Benny. What a disappointment! We've been coming for birthdays and special occasions for years, and there really has been a nosedive in food quality. Beans were cold n sent back, eggs were fried to beyond dry. And the eggs Benny... When I went to crack the poached eggs they were so dry, the yolks crumbled!! Will not be going back, which is a pity, this place was always so good. Wish the quality would come back visit was Sunday Dec 3rd approx 0930. Do not bother ordering breakfast, stick to tea and cakes they looked alright! (Trying to throw a positive in here!)

Visited at the weekend served by a young man who looked if he wished he was elsewhere some of the food was cold which they heated up for me egg was over cooked and presentation was poor . Another of our group had poached eggs that were solid ! I used to have vegetarian breakfast here but last time I had it the sausages were disgusting when at one time they were lovely and tasty. Used to be a place for special times out sadly it has changed to overpriced poorly presented and lesser quality

Beautiful little place quite expensive for what you get staff are quite rude and feels like they rush things which causes bad service. We ordered some cake which was £5 to take away for a small slice and the guy dropped it looked at us then proceeded to put it in the bag which now means the cake i was going to take home for a family member looks like someone stood on it ! Not very happy at all, wouldn’t recommend avoid for 3 people standard breakfasts and 2 hot drinks cost us more than 40 which very expensive considering the service

I used to think this place was good until today. I went in to check if they were busy and reserved a table so that I could pay for parking and then bring in my disabled Uncle and elderly mother. I told the waiter to hold the table for a few minutes whilst I brought them in. They have mobility problems so cannot walk without assistance and they cannot walk quickly. When we returned the table had been given to another family. We decided to leave because of this, as it seemed incredibly rude to allow someone else to get that table which I had agreed with the waiter to hold for just five minutes, as I had to assist my disabled Uncle and Mum to get out of the car and into the cafe.

Nice to treat the children and ourselves, wife's cake she loved, mine was a bit lack lustre, a jaffa cake that didnt taste of orange. Children had a smarties cake, didn't eat it, I tried and it was too bitter. Staff were fluttery and rushed, pleasant and smiles but you sort of felt guilty asking for assistance. Gents toilet looked to be refurbished not too long ago but was actually pretty dire. Nice setting and the tables were clean.

Really wish they could more than just fry an egg, surely you could get some more pans! I don't like fried eggs and it is on so many of the meal /breakfast options rules out a lot of meals for me as can't be changed. Another couple of visits since, just wow food is fantastic cakes delicious so much to choose from again no trouble getting a table for myself and 2 friends all with prams service and staff excellent facilities nice and clean will keep coming back ....... Pleasant surroundings and a delicious lunch. No issues getting a table considering the place doesn't take reservations. Cake cabinet looked amazing unfortunately didn't get time for cake this visit but I'll be back another time to sample.

Really nice place on the side of the common. Sold out of the Corned Beef the day I visited but the full English was a good alternative

Fast, efficient service and tasty food. Had the Corned Beef Bubble, could have done with a bit more corned beef but still very tasty and the accompanying eggs and bacon were delicious. Would recommend.

Always a lovely atmosphere here! Went for my lunch with my friends and their babies! A good selection of food and drinks available and great service.

The hollandaise sauce wasn’t the best, and the poached egg on the Eggs Benedict was a bit overcooked. However, due to the amazing ambiance, I’ll cut the tea room some slack. Instead of a 3.5, I’ll give it a 4 for the overall food quality!

A great place for afternoon teas

Plenty of nicer cafes in the area. Four of the tables around us were served burned toast with the breakfasts. They should never give people blackened toast and expect them to pay for it. My baked potato was obviously reheated from yesterday, tepid, and not even the cheese would melt. No butter of any type. Very disappointed.

Delicious cake and the hugest of slices! Great for gluten free options. The salads are also huge and really good, as are the jacket potatoes. Lovely place to go for lunch or coffee and cake. Definitely recommend. Unfortunately you can't book a table and as they are popular there is often a bit of a wait to get seated but it's worth it. There is paid parking just outside but sometimes that gets quite busy too.
