Lovely Sunday lunch. Meats on trio roast were great, parsnip and veggies slightly undercooked, but that's just personal preference! Service was amazing and nothing too much trouble. Will definitely be back. Thank you.

Been to this pub for lunch before , decided to return , if you want a great set munch menu it ticks all the boxes, this time we chose from the a La carte, Asparagus with poached egg, and sea bass , DH also had a desert ,really enjoyed our lunch, all good. Had a drink on the “ terrace” before ordering , this is where we both felt was an area that could be greatly improved , it needed a really good clean clean up , very scruffy , unkempt , pots which have been used as ashtrays piled up on the window sill full of dog ends , a VERY stained, dirty broken garden umbrella over a table in the corner, decking could have done with a sweep , these things would cost nothing to sort , a few well tended pots wouldn’t go a miss either in this area , attention to detail is missing here, shame. Will return for the food , hope to find the outside smartened up.

The Sunday lunch was very nice and service was extremely quick. Wanted a gravy boat left to add more gravy. I ordered the cheese and biscuits. Do not recommend. The Stilton was non existent, no chutney and pickled onions were horrible. For £13 not worth it!! My husband had apple crumble l, needed more custard, the sticky toffee was very nice.

I was in a party of twelve for our annual group get-together. The Restaurant was 100% occupied which proves that good food is always an attraction. The manager and two very friendly girls looked after us very efficiently. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. I had King Prawns as a starter and followed by a plate of delicous chicken. I somehow managed to find some room for half of my wife's spare ribs which were well prepared and full of flavour--definitely my choice on my next visit. My companions on either side of me had the Sea Bass, which they were very pleased to have chosen. There seemed to an unanimous selection of the mint chip ice-cream to wrap the evening. We all enjoyed the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and the Rioja, chosen from an interesting selection on the wine list. All in all, a most enjoyable evening with good food and excellent service. £50 per person was great value for a fun evening at this local pub.

Heard a lot about this pub and was keen to try it out. However, the meal I chose for a vegetarian option, was appalling. Mushrooms were few and far between, luke warm, dry and mostly pasta. Tasteless and dull in the extreme. Pls up your game if you wish to welcome people of all tastes and dietary requirements. There are a lot of us out there now…: Gave two stars as the waiter was pleasant. Toilets need an upgrade.

Once again this friendly local pub in the centre of Plaxtol Village provided us with a first-class mid-week supper. Their draught beer (£5.80/pint) from Longman's was beautifully kept and every mouthful of hop flavoured ale was perfect. It was very cosy in the small dining area adjacent to the bar as the log fire was blazing on this very wet Storm Babet night The beef and Suffolk blue cheese croquette with horseradish sauce (£9.00) was delicious. Hot crispy crust with a wonderful savoury middle - had to ask for more sauce which quickly arrived. The salmon rillette (£9.00) was also enjoyed as a starter. I had the Thai green curry (£17.50) with chicken (again) and was not disappointed. Lovely medium hot curry with tender chicken pieces and rice, perfectly cooked, with a slight bite. Other enjoyed the Chicken Ballotine (£19.00) which was stuffed with spinach, cheese and rolled in Parma ham. When it came to desserts, most of us were too well fed to tackle anything more than a "digestive" ice cream at £3.00 per dollop and really good. We liked the Picpoul de Minet (£32.00) and large glass of Tempranillo (£7.80) The food is in a class above mots other local restaurants and pubs so should command greater support!!

Plaxtol is a friendly village and this pub provides a great focus for thirsty locals as well as offering interesting food in comfortable surrounds. There has been an extensive devlopment of outdoor facilities but sadly the weather on a July evening was not conducive to braving the sudden temperature drop. We enjoyed the casual atmosphere whilst we took drinks and studied the short menu - the draught bitter ale was well kept with great flavour. My starter for £9.50 was chicken liver parfait served with thick slices of brown bread (perhaps toasted would have been even better?) and slices of local strawberries. The parfait was light and very smooth, so good to taste. For the main course, I opted for the Thai green curry (£16.95) with chicken pieces and basmati rice which I thought was a superb dish and could have rly enjoyed their selections and the kitchen was very happy to provide a "doggy bag" for the unfinished (but delicious) Tuna steaks. Total bill with drinks in the bar, wine at the table, two courses plus coffee and gratuity was £50pp. Very good value for our superb mid-week supper.

Decided to visit with my brother and our wives on "Wellington Wednesday" - an evening when they offer beef wellington at £35.00/each and either salmon or vegetable at £20,00/each. Opened with an excellent pint of timothy Taylor bitter which was worth the rather high price. However the wine selections both white and red were rather ordinary and again slightly over=priced we felt. The starters did not excite with the (miniscule) fishcake and sauce underwhelming though the leek and potato soup proved a nourishing winter option. Very pleased to move to a more positive tone as the Wellingtons were outstanding : really tender, medium rare fillet encased in a perfectly formed thin crust of pastry with a fine jus, smoothly mashed potatoes and greens. Likewise our ladies loved the salmon version. Coffees sufficed and we would certainly make another visit.

I wanted to write a review of this fantastic pub/bistro/ restaurant. It is absolutely wonderful in every single sense. We have been there 3 times now, and I could not rate any more highly. From the moment you walk in, the staff are welcoming, (especially the lovely landlady) nothing is too much trouble and they are all so knowledgeable. If you want upmarket standard food, but at a reasonable price point, this is your place. The food is EXCELLENT, and I promise it takes a lot to impress me. Everything is freshly cooked to order and to your own personal 'taste'. The ambience is lovely, and it is purely a wonderful experience. Well now where to start! Literally just got home from having an anniversary meal with my wife at the Papermakers Arms. I have had the good fortune to sample many a Gastro Pub in my time; I do like my food and I know good food from bad for sure. The quality of the food here was absolutely first class. Great ingredients, cooked to perfection and the menu was straight to the point with some interesting options. There's no 'stocking fillers' here; nothing that could be classed as an 'also ran' and some intrigue too. But the service? WOW! I seriously cannot tell you what these guys and gals did for us ( firstly because you'd laugh and then secondly because you'd all want it), but we felt like we'd know the 'staff' for years. I have to put that in quotes because it's really hard to call your new best friends 'staff' :-) Awsome all round, If you've not been you don't know what you are missing - this lot will show the London City crowd how it should be done. My top tip? Go. Just Go. But also make sure you know how you're getting home. You'll want to stay way past your bed time and taxis are hard to come by so have it all pre arranged. But Go!

I went to the Papermakers arm for my daughters birthday on Sunday, the restaurant was fully booked but they were kind enough to allow me to add an extra person to my table. The service was fast and attentive but not excessive and although being very busy the food and drinks came quickly. There are no words that does the food here justice, it was the best chicken I have ever had, safe to say everyone on the table was amazed by the presentation and flavour. Every plate went back empty despite everyone being very full.Although being very full, we had to get one of their homemade desserts. Once again immaculate presentation and flavour! They really made my daughters birthday feel special and I would highly recommend paying a visit!!

This was the first opportunity that I had for many months to take my family to lunch. We had booked to be seated on the terrace. We were told on arrival, that there was a party of 14 booked so we were fitted in elsewhere.Fitted it was! The couple in the corner behind us were being disturbed to the point where the lady had to stand to allow the server access. We took it upon ourselves to shuffle everything forward to save further inconvenience. We had to ask for one of tables to stabilised. The presiding manager did return to us to say the larger party had booked the seating a month ago. This was particularly unhelpful to know at this time…….We only saw him again when we were told that our wine choice was unavailable.I was rather shocked to see a plentiful array of breadcrumbs between the slats on our table. I really would have told the duty manager should we have seen him before we left. The food on the whole was enjoyed by my guests. I would add though that the dollop of tomato sauce on the courgette flower was not a good idea.I must state that most of us had dined here before and had enjoyed high standards in all aspects of this restaurant. However this Sunday lunch experience, I felt, was not up to scratch.Jane Easterbrook

The food is made there, not bought in, the menu is therefore not huge but every dish is delicious and not what you could do at home, so feels like a treat, and is not over priced. Warmly greeted. Excellent staff attention. Sunday lunch was great!, between the 4 of us, had pork loin, roast lamb x 2 and a vegetarian dish. Followed by treacle pudding x 4. Three with the advertised ice-cream and the non advertised with custard was accommodated for me! Brilliant. We ate outside on the patio which had good sized parasols. Masks were not required outside 11/07/21 (yippee) hence I’ve given a yes to masks below, which only applied inside. The Papermakers Arms is situated in a very quiet village, so virtually no traffic noise and the little there was was only from slow moving vehicles so barely audible. A lovely peaceful tranquil setting. The toilet area was 10 out of 10, same for the food and ambience. Treats were even supplied without asking for our pooch. Pooches are allowed outside. My only regret is that we were visiting family in the area and live 120 miles away, so, very unfortunately cannot be regulars. However it is a must on our next visit to the area. Many thanks to all the staff and chef who made our visit a great occasion.

We booked online and we’re greeted with a warm welcome on arrival. We had a table in the window which was lovely. The food was delicious! We both had the Sunday roast, I had lamb and my partner had beef. The meals came with all the trimmings - crispy roast potatoes, a huge Yorkshire pud, fresh and perfectly cooked veg, celeriac purée, and a rich gravy. My lamb came with fresh mint sauce, and the beef was served with a horseradish mousse. We were also brought a cast iron pot of leek gratin (or “cheesy leeks” as someone else called them). They were amazing and a really nice extra touch! For desert we had sticky toffee pudding & ice cream, and a selection of local ice creams. We both had a glass of wine, and were given a large jug of iced water on arrival (nice not to have to ask for this). The meal came to £60 including a tip (this wasn’t added to the bill automatically, we just added on at the end). Wonderful foot, great atmosphere and attentive staff. Will definitely be back!

First time visiting papermakers arms and I’m quite annoyed that we haven’t been sooner. For a long time we have been searching for a decent Sunday lunch and today not only did we find it but it surpassed my expectations. I opted for the mixed roast which provides a slice of all 3 roast meat options (today was pork/lamb/beef), on the plate was also beautiful roast potatoes, crackling, greens, carrot/swede mash and french beans. A serving side of leak and cheese gratin was also served on the table. All 3 meats were cooked beautifully, veg was also cooked perfectly and has so much flavour. Half the portion would have filled me up but it was that good that not only do you need to finish the plate but you go looking for what others might have left behind (which on this occasion was hardly anything!)Dessert was a gooseberry foul and a rum and ginger cake, again utterly delicious. Right balance of presentation vs substance. Staff were welcoming and attentive with serviceBang on. I cannot fault this place and look forward to going back regularly. I did not pay the bill as it was Father’s Day but too be honest I probably wouldn’t have cared what the bill said, as the lunch was soo good. I think the mixed roast was £18.50… honestly I’d pay more.Papermakers arms is night and day vs local offering.I hope people don’t read this as I intend on going back regularly but I’d understand if it were difficult to get a table.Congratulations!Ian

The booking experience was easy and we received a warm welcome from Rachel the manager, and Graham the owner. We were a few minutes early so enjoyed a drink on the covered Terrance which had decent patio heaters that kept you warm without burning your eyebrows off. The menu was varied and would cater to most tastes, but not so large that you had trouble choosing. The food itself was fantastic and served a nice pace. Clearly using high quality ingredients, the chef presents the food perfectly and the whole meal was a delight. My partner and I have recently bought a house in borough green, and after being locked down for so long we were keen to find somewhere to go for a nice Sunday roast. I stumbled across this place online, and saw it was only 10 minutes away. I am SO pleased we picked this place as our first meal out. Starter, main and dessert were all spot on! Couldn’t fault it. All I kept saying to my partner was “I’m so happy to be here, it is so nice” ... this could’ve been the cheeky Jenny’s blush cocktail I ordered making me more enthusiastic, or the fact we were actually sitting inside a pub and eating for the first time in like a year! But I can honestly say with or without those factors, the meal was first class and everything was cooked perfectly. Today’s journey along wet, but colourful autumnal roads led to The Papermaker’s Arms at Plaxtol. A gastropub with not a sniff of “pub fayre” on the menu. Very good and will return.“Gastro” means well presented dishes if just a tad small for the average appetite. But I appreciate chef’s efforts to keep my waistline in check.I did have room for ice cream as a dessert. Somewhat cloying but flavours good.We sat in the back room where acoustics suffered from all the hard surfaces - and the raucous crowd of six on an adjacent table.Do give it a try.

We visited a while ago and were unhappy with one of our dishes. When we complained we were made to feel like we were in the wrong, even the chef came out of the kitchen to "educate" us about how to cook food, Given that my partner has previously worked as a head chef in numerous pubs and restaurants we were pretty offended. It was very awkward and upsetting for our children. The rest of the food was good and the manager was friendly prior to our complaint.

First time visit to the Papermakers - had driven past a few times when closed due to COVID and had decided to come for lunch when it reopened. Nice welcome on arrival and all staff friendly and efficient. COVID precautions in place and well organised / observed. Slight mistake in order was made but quickly rectified and not an issue. We had 2 Sunday roasts which were high quality and good in terms of quantity. Food and drink prices reasonable - about right for the location/standard. Only very slight niggle was the background music which was a little too loud when the place wasn't that busy though I stopped noticing this after a while. Perhaps I'm just getting old.... Recommended and would definitely come again.

Went with friends for dinner, and we enjoyed our Evening, the staff were warm, friendly and helpful, and the COVID precautions were in place. We all enjoyed our Starters of Baked Camembert, Onion Soup, and Rabbit Ragout. Then our Mains which were 3 x Fish & Chips, all good portions and enjoyed and 1 x Chicken Tikka which came with rice and Naan bread but the chicken was 2 x “skin on thighs” and as it was coated inTikka spice it was hard to pick out the meat from the bones and it was also rather dry so would not have that again, disappointing to eat although what was eaten had a good flavour but a poor texture. I was asked for my feedback, probably because I had left quite a lot, and stated as written here.We finished our meal with a variety of coffees and left by 10pm as required

Met a friend here for lunch. Covid measures were best I've experienced- tables actually well spaced out & a clear 1 way system, felt safe but relaxed. Staff all friendly & helpful, & happily offered to do me a dish I'd been looking forward to that wasn't currently officially on the menu (thai green curry) - glad they did as it was lovely. I live in Essex but would happily make the trip down here again.

Four of us had a Sunday lunch and the food and service was excellent. The staff serving us were very nice, attentive and helpful. This is especially noticeable at the moment with the COVID-19 restrictions in place, as you cannot go to the bar. We never had to wait to be asked for fresh drinks. The food was perfectly cooked and delicious. The staff also listened to our individual requirements so there were no issues at all. I would thoroughly recommend the Papermakers Arms.

So glad the Papermakers had reopened. Had a table for six for a birthday celebration and all the staff and food made it a wonderful evening. So nice that they are serving a full menu, and everyone enjoyed all three courses. Well organised under the covid restrictions and looking forward to returning very soon.

Terrible. We arrived at 8pm for our reservation and by 9:10 walked out as we still had not received any food. What made it worse was how rude and aggressive the manageress was when we had the audacity to complain. It is really not the way to treat customers.

An impromptu date night at the Papermakers ! Staff welcomed us, lovely pre dinner drinks and ordering at the bar before we ate at our prime position table for 2! The food was amazing - - The beetroot, goats cheese and gingerbread starter was incredible - beautifully presented and for a non foodie gave me so much to talk about - the different, delicate tastes complimented each other so well with surprises too.( raspberry vinegar pearls)- The roasted gnocchi cooked to perfection followed. It was in a home made pesto with roasted red peppers - such a wonderful vegetarian meal that was so tasty without being too rich .- We needed a little break but so enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding with ginger and marmalade ice cream .Thanks PM team we will be back and will be so proud to invite our friends and family to join us !

We stayed at an AirBnb nearby and wandered down for dinner on Saturday night. We had a great meal, the food was excellent (in particular the shortcrust pie and triple cooked chips were amazing). Special mention about the service though, all staff were lovely and made us feel very welcome. Highly recommend this pub.

Lovely little pub . We ate here near a roaring fire on a very cold day. Going around table there were six of us , only four meals came up trumps . Sea Bream overcooked and £7 for a child's meal ( toddler) for a dreadful bowl of pasta with a sauce that tasted like ketchup.

The weekday set lunch is amazing value. What a fantastic chef. I had delicious local rabbit spring rolls (an understandably popular new item on the menu), followed by an excellent fish pie and a wonderfully gooey chocolate brownie. My wife loved her celeriac soup, followed by fish pie and affogato.

New owners have made an amazing difference. We were celebrating a birthday with our family shortly before Christmas so it was busy with large groups of revellers. The result was that the service was a little muddled, but otherwise, the meal was very good, nicely presented and with some imagination with the presentation. We will be back!

We stopped for an impromptu Sunday/Christmas Lunch whilst we were in the area. We were blown away by how friendly and warm the staff were, especially with my boisterous 20 month old nephew and new born niece. Nothing was too much trouble, the food was absolutely delicious and the service was second to none. I will be coming back very soon and will be recommending this place to anyone I know in the area.

Not good, my beer smelt awful, tasted worse! I complained and was told no one else had complained, said I wanted another pint or my money back, and was told there was no one there to authorise that, so i left. Dreadful place, Dreadful service.
