The Pantry Restaurant in Norwich

Went to Jarrolds on Sunday for lunch. Quite busy but managed to find a table. Three had carvery, one veggie, two meat. The carverywas plated and very portion controlled, bit disappointing.one had salad , miss the previous help yourself one, particularly the lack of choice of mains, egg, cheese or ham or pork, not great . Did not havea dessert but bought something in thedeli downstairs.

Before Covid The Pantry Restaurant was my favourite place to go for coffee and scones. Hot filter coffee served at the table- delicious scones. Unfortunately all that has changed. I no longer buy filter coffee - it doesn’t taste freshly made - probably because it’s kept on the hot plate too long. Today I had tea served in a tiny teapot - hardly enough for a decent drink - not good value at £2.85. The scone was another disappointment - very thick dry crust and not much inside. My friend couldn’t even finish hers. Again overpriced at £3.60. Very disappointing.

It is rare nowadays to find a department store like Jarrold’s which sells almost everything. On our wandered around we came to their small café and sat down for drinks and cake. The lady who served us was very pleasant and the tea, coffee and cake filled a gap until dinner time.

A shadow of its former self, scones were stodgy and coffee not hot. Used to be buzzing with life this.time of day any day. Quite sad to see

We popped in for a cup of tea as it was a really wet cold day and we needed a break. The cafe needs a bit of a refresh but it has character and was a nice place to relax for a little while. We did feel their drinks were expensive but I think that the department store overall is a little overpriced.

I go here every year for Christmas shopping Christmas lunch. and honestly it gets worse every year. By the time you get your lunch to the table it’s stone cold. Covered in watery gravy and the veggies are like mush. My Yorkshire pudding was so over cooked the dog would have struggled to eat it! The staff are lovely which it’s why it’s two stars not one but when the free coffee top ups went out the window and they started serving Christmas dinner ‘soup’ it has become time at last to find somewhere else, which for 15 years have been coming to jarrolds with my now elderly mother is a sad day.

Usually eat in the Bay restaurant in Jarrolds, but as I was on my own, decided to give this cafe a whirl. I wasn’t going to have a hot meal, but the sight of the roast beef made me change my mind. Food was really delicious, beef was very tender and cooked to perfection, accompanied by well cooked vegetables Nice staff, helped cos I had bags of shopping

I come here maybe three times a year when I want a good filling dinner. It’s nice, tasty and good value I think. I also generally have cheesecake afterwards- again, so tasty and a huge, impossible to finish portion. Prices have gone up, but then they have everywhere and it’s a nice homely feeling (probably because it’s been here forever serving the same decent food) place to eat. Staff are always nice too.

It was not particularly busy when we went, but still had to queue to get our food, then queue again for our coffee, and finally queue again to pay. It was like queueing for school dinners as a child. The "carvery" was played for you and had a very poor choice of vegetables . All in all just an over priced cafeteria. There are many smaller, better independent restaurants/cafes in Norwich which offer good food reasonably priced and with excellent table service.

Superb lunch of homemade Steak and Kidney Pie and veg. I usually go for the Carvery but the pie looked so good I opted for that and was not disappointed.

We have been to this restaurant many times over the last 5+ years and no problems,and always have a jacket potato, food reasonable prices and ample. Unfortunately this visit we were very dissatisfied we both opted for jacket potato , which was an average but small potatoe, filling given was small too, and salad small infact for £8 each it was terrible. My husband didn't want salad and was not offered a bit more filling instead which would of been nice🙄 the prices have gone up considerably but the portions have gone down. The lady serving was not friendly and we just felt really let down by the customer service. We didn't eat until gone 2 so we thought a bigger portion would of been the case to get rid of the food fresh! Also stopped doing the coffee refills, big mistake as this was a good way of getting people in. The only positive was the young girl serving drinks was very pleasant, the older lady should take a leaf out of her book so to speak. We will no be going back. Annoyed I didn't photo food I usually do🤦

Jarrolds Pantry is simply the best place for Lunch in Norwich, Freshly prepared food, Superb Pastry Chef (Sue) served by the delightful Rachel and Emily Today they went the xtra mile, we phoned earlier in the week to see if they were serving our favorite Steak and Kidney Pie on Good Friday, left a message and low and behold the Executive Chef NickHarris called us back to say he would be very happy to add it to the Friday Menu. So when we turned up it was proudly delivered from the Kitchen. As usual it was superb. So thanks Jarrolds for making the day special, you really deliver for the customer Can't wait to return

Shopping with a friend dictates lunch here. Lots of choice, salad, freshly made rolls with your choice of filling, jacket potatoes with choice of sandwich fillings as topping, cakes, scones and hot full meal available We opted for jacket potato filled with chicken, bacon and avocado in Mayo - it was absolutely delicious and o can’t recommend it enough. The potato was large with lots of filling and came with a small side salad

Hot chocolate £3.50, scones £3.10. Plenty of other options are less expensive in these times and just as good

We went to Jarrolds pantry today for a carvery I must say that we where very surprised by the quality of the food and service by a waitress called Debbie,she couldn't do enough for me and my wife from sorting out our meals to getting us a desert.I would recommend anyone who wants a decent lunch with good service to try this place as I can't fault it

Standards not what they used to be here. Salads presented in a bowl, no choice. Lettuce - enormous leaves; cherry tomatoes- 3, all soft; cucumber - huge chunks; grated carrot - ok; red onion- I never eat it; and pickled beetroot - the one food I detest. I chose meat, but no labelling, and I couldn't tell if it was pork or beef. No taste, and very dry. Most food self-service, no 'please' when asked for payment, card only, tables not cleared promptly, and a waitress with a skirt that hardly covered her rear. Ok. Times are tough, I get that. But I didn't feel they can justify the £18 we paid for 2 basic salads.

I am disgusted with the way I was treated by staff here at jarrolds. I came in with a buggy and I got myself a tray, it was hard to carry a tray and push a buggy but I thought hopefully someone will help me...

Always good to return to Norwich and Jarrolds. A cut above the usual department store Cafe. First class, generously sized, Fruit Scones. And particularly fine Macciato. Hayling Seagoon

This is quite possibly the worst place I have ever eaten. Not a single savoury vegan option available and just one vegan cake offering which was very dry. Almost a total disregard for anything other than mainstream which is very short sighted in this day...

First time here to meet a friend and we were pleasantly surprised by the choice and prices. It does have a canteen like atmosphere as serves a lot of people, so if you're after a more sophisticated spot maybe try one of the smaller eateries...

I can understand why this venue is so popular: good choice of food, good coffee, amazingly helpful staff, and a coffee top-up included. Little things matter, like the butter not being rock-hard so your scone stays intact when you spread it, and having the cutlery...

I call in to The Pantry most Saturdays when shopping in Norwich, and always go for the salad bar. A wide range of items are set out so that one can help oneself, creating one's own choice of mixed salad. Very good value.

Esta es la tercera vez que almorzo aquí. Cada vez que he tenido la barra de ensaladas. Hay una excelente selección de ingredientes frescos de buena calidad, como carne y pescado. El restaurante es muy popular, por lo que puede ser difícil encontrar una mesa a la hora del almuerzo.

Nice place to go for lunch. I had a huge jacket potato with coronation chicken, was very good. I felt the price was very reasonable too. It gets busy so best to get there early.

Me gusta mucho este restaurante. No es pretencioso; no es elegante, pero que es bueno comer. Hay una buena selección de comida en el buffet/área self-service. Las dailies son servidos por un personal atento y considerado. Me había pescado y patatas fritas con guisantes (bien, no muy pruebas) pero sabía realmente bien. Y, no romper el banco.

Vino para el almuerzo con mi amigo hoy y estaba impresionado por la variedad y calidad. Tuve un pollo y mayonesa de patata por chaqueta 4,75 y esto también venía con ensalada. Mi amigo tenía la placa estilo deli por 7.95, que incluía carnes frías, quiche, ensalada, pescado, huevos, pasta, etc. tan buena relación calidad-precio y te cogías tu mismo. Yo también era codicioso y conseguimos la mayor turbina vienés que he visto para £2.50 pero tuve que quitar como no podía administrar comer después de mi papa. Toda la comida caliente parecía delicioso y sin duda volveremos en el futuro. Ubicación encantadora, la comida y el servicio, a un precio muy razonable.

Los lectores habituales de mis comentarios, saben de mi debilidad por scones de queso. Pero es tan difícil encontrar seres calidad - especialmente en la calidad, incluso en el oasis culinario de Norwich. Jarrolds es una de las excepciones y medir la calidad de otros contra ellos. La Despensa nunca decepciona. El personal es amable. Aunque soy un comprometido sconophile, todas las otras ofertas, especialmente las comidas para aquellos que comer una comida completa en ese momento del día - un aspecto muy tentador.

Este es mi lugar favorito para el café y los pasteles en Norwich, que usa regularmente no es el más barato, pero ciertamente no es el más caro, siempre hay una buena selección de pasteles, pero los bollos es mi favorito! El café también es muy buena, y me encanta el hecho de que uno de los camareros y camareras es siempre caminando con una taza de café caliente para rellenar gratis!

I popped into Jarrolds Cafe on my lunch break. I sat down with a Fruit Scones, which I layered in Raspberry jam and whipped cream. I washed this all down with a delightful pot of tea. The scone was wholesome and filling, the jam was good and the cream was whipped up by the guys in the kitchen following my request. Service was brilliant and with a smile and I got change from £4 - I was a happy Jarrolds customer.

It is what it is .... but within that it's really nice. The scones are always tasty and they have other tasty baked goods...coffee is a bit rough but the tea is normal...nice to go somewhere and have pies and jacket spuds and salads and rolls on offer...I like it here.

I admired the range of foods available in The Pantry. They serve carveries, jacket potatoes, fresh sandwiches, salads and delicious looking cakes. Me and my mum both decided to have a sandwich made in a large granary bap. There were a range of fillings available and we both chose chicken mayonnaise with salad. The baps were filled generously! We shared a bag of Kettle's crisps too.I chosethen had a slice of raspberry marble sponge. This was really nice and moist and the buttercream was sweet. Generous sized slices too!Overally I really enjoyed my lunch at The Pantry in Jarrolds. The Pantry is situated on the top floor of Jarrolds department store. It is my favourite place for mid-morning coffee, mainly for the excellent quality of the scones. In my opinion they are the best to be found within the city of Norwich. The Pantry is always buzzing and its ambiance can be noisy. It is self service but the always-friendly staff keep coming round with the coffee pot to top you up; I've noticed they are very willing to assist in carrying the trays of the elderly and infirm (Benji's on the first floor offers a quiet ambiance with table service). Although I invariable only come here for coffee and a scone I have to say that their full range of meals always look superb.

The Pantry was busy and noisy, but the salad bar lunch was worth it. Great choice and very filling, the potato salad gets a special mention - delicious! Filter coffee served at the table is a nice touch and the free refill good value. Jarrolds is a wonderful independent department store, give it a try.

Went here for lunch on a Sunday arrived at 2pm. Plenty of choice in the hot meals which all looked very nice. Had a sandwich as only wanted something simple. It was a pre made roll. We had two sandwiches, 2 drinks and a packet of crisps which was £15 which I thought was a little pricey for what it was.Hot meals were about £7 each and I would say would be better value.

The Pantry restaurant is on the top floor. Their choice of food is excellent, you can choose anything almost to make up a sandwich and the price is reasonable. The freshness is excellent. There is hot food too and cakes and scones. friendly service but always quite busy. A good central location

Sandwiches are made to order with a filling of your choice so fresh and tasty. I had filter coffee which is served at your table. It was stewed and tasted horrible.the restaurant was busy so I would have thought the coffee should have been freshly brewed.

Jarrolds is a Norwich institution and the Pantry upholds their tradition of quality and service. All the food in the serving area looked good, but as it was a Friday we had to have fish and chips. Cod or plaice are cooked to order and served with chips and mushy peas for the princely sum of £6.80. Our cod was well cooked and portions of both fish and chips were enough for any but the most greedy. We didn't have coffee but noted that waiting staff were patrolling the room giving people free top-ups which was a nice touch. An excellent place to refuel while shopping, and worth a visit in itself on the basis of our meal.

What a wonderful find in this traditional department store. The Pantry is a must for any hungry shopper. A main will set you back about £8 and a huge slice of chocolate cake is £2.50. My favourite is the trifle at £2 absolute bargain. Self service but some cooked to order. Staff amazing, friendly and very helpful.
