In a city with an unequalled choice of excellent real ale pubs, this pub must offer the best range of beers. It is the Norwich pub which I have patronised the most often and I have always been delighted with the ales on offer. We came here last week, forging our own eleven pub ale trail through the city, leaving the the King's Head to cap a superb trip to the county.

Probably the best traditional pub in Norwich, quality ale. Not sure if they do food, excellent range of crisps and often have seasonal bar snacks on offer. One of the best real ale pubs in Norwich and in the twilight zone between the gentrified and salt of the earth parts of Magdeline street. Great place for those who don’t want cookie cutter tourism. There are some very eclectic and large antique shops nearby.

The Kings Head was the local Norwich CAMRA branch Pub of the Year for 2022, which is some achievement when you consider the competition it is up against in this fine Ale city. A nice two room city centre pub which has very much the feeling of a traditional ale house, especially in that it does not offer many, if any keg products. The available real ales are spread across the pumps in both the front and back bars but fortunately there is a chalk board in the plainer front bar as you enter that details all that are on in both bars. For my inaugural visit as part of our Norwich crawl Green Jack Brewery’s Golden Best and Trawlerboys, Hop Monster’s Banshee Porter, Newby Wyke Brewery’s Benvoilio, Humpty Dumpty’s Swallowtail and Brewer’s Reserve and Derby Brewing’s Quintessential were the available ales alongside two real ciders. There’s also a decent list of Belgian beers and some craft products avialable in bottles. I went for the Humpty Dumpty Swallow tail in my continuing quest to drink local on this crawl and it was a very pleasant drop. I found this a very friendly pub with a friendly set of regulars and it’s very easy to strike up conversations with like minded souls and fellow drinkers in this pub. Young drinkers were also in evidence on this early evening so cannot really understand the negative review below. Although I could imagine that like any pub or club, the regulars probably do not take kindly to shouty mobile phone using plonkers, which could explain it.

Absolute classic boozer…..the finest in Norwich, nay maybe even Norfolk. The front bar is in a time warp! Like being at a beer festival. Best to drink halves. Like all the best ale pubs, there is no food just snacks. But they do a mean pork pie. The manager Charlie is a legend in his own lunch time. Lovely guy and REALLY knows how to keep beer. No citra hops in sight, thank goodness. Can’t get enough of the place. If you love fine English ale (sadly well on the wane), you MUST try this epic pub. It’s an absolute stunner. Don’t go if you want style over substance. Do go if you want English beer at its finest.

Lunch with disabled parents. Friendly welcome by Maggie who showed us several table options and offered to take parents to and from the disabled toilet. Also severed by Maggie at the bar - busy lady as the restaurant was pretty full. Food a little slow arriving but the mixed grill and gammon we properly cooked not fling and ping when happens elsewhere. Mixed was excellent with good cuts of steak and gammon and quality sausages. Also FOC swap to jacket potato. Deserts also nice and meals not overpriced with their 25% off deals. Toilets could do with a revamp / some TLC. Otherwise very good find for lunch.
