We visited Fort Amhurst on a Thursday morning in the school holidays. We have visited here in the past but have not been for some time and was keen to know how much it had changed. The first thing we noticed is that the fort has a pay & display parking facility at £1 per hour up to four hours and then £5 for the day, however visitors using the café can claim two hours free parking in the car park by entering their registration number at the counter. We thought the café here was very good with a wide range of food and drinks and from the amount of people using it, also very popular with the general public. Prices were reasonable but we were impressed with a children’s meal deal which seemed very good value, the café has both inside and outside seating and the inside section is very airy with its large windows looking out onto the car park. Here the visitor will also find some models and further information on the fort.

Visited today for the first time for breakfast … was told there would be a wait as the place was packed. We really didn’t have to wait long at all and had one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a very long time. The staff were polite and professional. Definitely recommend and will be going back.

THANK YOU Anita and Team for a super special afternoon tea and 2 fabulous birthday cakes. It was perfect and everyone was well and truly stuffed. There was plenty of food provided, we even had to take some home for later. My family, friends and myself will definitely be back for more yummy food and drink soon.

We stopped here for a drink before going on a tour of the tunnels. The service was painfully slow, they had run out of cups & mugs and a bottle of water was £1.50. Not a good experience!

First time visiting The Cheese Room and it did not disappoint. The menu was a set one 2 course £27 or 3 courses for £34. You could also choose toasted sandwiches and lighter lunches. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. We were able to settle down and browse the menu without being interrupted. We had the 2 courses and had Beef Roast with Yorkshire pudding and amazing potaotes, veg was carrots, parsnip, beetroot and squash all roasted. We also ordered cauliflower cheese which is £6 for 2 people. It was lovely to have cauliflower that was cooked and not raw. The pudding we had was out of this world and couldn't fault anything, we had the cheesecake. It was more on the expensive side than i would usually pay, but it was so worth it. Service charge of 10% is automatically added and this is advertised on their website. Was a lovely experience but would recommend booking.

Pub has a great atmosphere. Staff are lovely and there is always someone around to have a good chat to. Lots of live music, a great place for young people and also the older punter. Nice selection of drinks and snacks. Pool table is a great addition, and the garden/courtyard, although small, is a nice little space. The pub dog is great and the ginger girl behind the bar is lovely too.
