Really expensive for what it is £16 for a stack of pancakes and juice really overpriced decent Italian near by does a two course lunch for almost the same price Others got burger or macaroni. Macaroni home made but really dry Burger okay nothing special again a bit dry It is an okay place for food but really over priced for what it is £3:45 for a regular juice and the glass was half filled with ice I understand rising costs but these prices are just not fair Place was busy enough but I won’t be back mainly due to expensive price for mediocre food

It was the early afternoon, 11am or thereabouts. My friends and I decided that we would visit the PANCAKE PLACE in Dunfermline for a late birthday lunch. At about 11:05, we approached the entrance to the Pancake Place, only to be hit with a waft of vinegar and what seemed like wet rag - strange, I know! You'd think they'd at least have an air freshener. Anyways, regardless, we were seated very quickly, by a fine waiter with a feminine voice. Though, to my disgust, when we got to our assigned table, it was STICKY and there was sugar all over the place - enough to put you off a hearty meal! Eventually, we ordered drinks. They are VERY expensive, so please do not come here if you are on a low income. It was £3.50 for a soda and orange juice - RIDICULOUS! My dear friend also ordered a peach iced tea. But, to our horror, it was just LIPTON in a glass at a very high price (£4.50!). It was also very gooey and sweet - avoid! When we finally placed our food order, we were yet again disgusted. The chips were the best thing about the meal, unfortunately. My friend and I ordered the soup which was watery and flavourless; my friend also got a "baguette" with her soup, it was only really one of those ones you flung in the oven that you get from Morrisons - very pricey too. My other friend ordered a toastie, but, to her disgust, it was very thin - no filling whatsoever. It was as if a tiny bit of jam was holding two slices of cheap, ALDI bread together - very unappetising. Finally, my dear vegetarian friend ordered a hotdog. TOO EXPENSIVE! £9.50 - a horrid price. To sum up, our visit here was substandard. If you like cold burgers and chips that are overpriced, then this is the place for you! It should be called the shartcake place!

First visit in a long time and won’t leave it so long next time. On the first floor of Kingsgate Centre with access from James Street this place has plenty of seating and the tables were cleared quickly once vacated. The menu had a decent selection of light meals/snacks including pancakes of course but we chose to have toasties and coffee. We only waited a few minutes before being served and our toasties arrived in less than ten minutes. Tasty food and good coffee. Just over £20, so not exactly cheap eats but worth the money.

Popped in for an early lunch. Spoon size pancakes huge but very tasty, esp with the warm toffee sauce and white ice cream (really dislike yellow coloured ice cream with a dessert) Real disappointment was the ‘milk shake’ at £4.25, basically frothy milk in a normal sized glass, definitely not value for money. But apart from the milk, everything else was really good. As some other posters have pointed out, we also had a less than enthusiastic waitress but service was quick.

Not worth it at all. The presentation of the food is shocking for the money you pay for the pancakes. Ordered a flavoured coffee and had no taste to it whatsoever, to the point that it didn’t even come mixed. Obviously waited in a queue to get in, which is to be expected. Person in front was waiting on a member of their party but couldn’t enter, waitress says, unless they are all together as (due to covid) they want customers in and out quickly (again a good thing). Which I was then surprised when we ordered starters, ate starters, asked for starter dishes to be removed, ordered more refreshments as tea was cold, waiting on main meal, waiting again.. waitress noticed we haven’t received our main, she says “have they not given you your main yet” we stayed no and waited again, we then asked for it (45 in total). When paying for meal at counter I mentioned that we were in restraint for 2 hours and that we waiting an hour for food, Manager informed me that we were supposed to tell them when we were ready... in a very abrupt manner, I was surprised and asked her to repeat that, which she did with just as much attitude... all it would have took is an apology for the lack of service.. it ruined my experience of the pancake place and we won’t be back... Review of our visit: Decor: 4 stars Waitresses: they were very pleasant, albeit very stressed and running around a chip on the floor like headless chickens, but were pleasant Manager: if that is what she was, on the cash desk, 0 stars... needs to go to CS training Food: 3 stars for everything but the pancakes, that is a 1 star.. had a metallic taste to the cho brownie sauce Covid H&S: apart from being there too long, very well laid out.

Came here all excited with my boyfriend and we were expecting a menu full of different kinds of pancakes. The fact that the café was busy, made us think we were in for a treat. But we couldn't have been more disappointed. We scanned the menu and were disappointed first off that the pancake selection was minimal and all mostly the same, and no savoury pancakes. So we ordered milkshakes (coconut and marshmallow flavours) to start off which were literally the highlight of our meal. I ordered a egg mayo sandwich, my boyfriend ordered a panini. When they eventually arrived my sandwich had suddenly morphed into coronation chicken. Now I wasn't that annoyed because I like coronation chicken, but had I been vegetarian, I'd have been really upset. Not one person came over during our meal to check if everything was okay so I couldn't tell anyone that my sandwich was wrong. We finished and waited but my boyfriend had to ask one of the girls standing at the bar behind us for service. Ordered pancakes and asked for the bill at the same time so we didn't have to wait again. Pancakes came, big enough for 4 people. Despite the size of the pancakes, they were as good as shop bought and the ice cream used was cheap stuff. Went to pay for bill and told girl about sandwich mistake, she just said we should've told someone but I said no one came over. Worse thing was I had to pay the extra £1.50 for the incorrect sandwich! Won't ever come again and certainly won't be recommending to anyone.

The lady in question needs to take some tips on customer service from the young girls who were very pleasant that were working with her. On a shopping trip to Dunfermline we found ourselves in the Kingsgate centre so decided to try the Pancake Place on the upper level. We waited a few minutes to be seated and although a couple of servers, who seemed to be busy albeit, could of acknowledged us but they didn't. Eventually a server came over and instead of taking us to our seats just handed us menus and pointed to the table. A server then came over a few minutes later and took our orders. The place was very busy but our food came out quite quickly. My grandslam all day breakfast was really nice, however one thing I would change would be to put the Pancakes onto a separate plate as I'm not keen on pancakes tasting like mushrooms. My wife had soup and a sandwich deal. The lentil soup tasted like it came out of a tin and the sandwich filling which was meant to be cheese, spring onion and mayonnaise had far too much mayonnaise on the sandwiches which made it a bit claggy. The lattes that we ordered were very nice. The servers were polite and well presented but could of been a bit more acknowledging to customers who were waiting to be seated. The toilets were clean and well kept.

I was once again back over in the state of Fife. I was visiting my friend Hans who was originally from Germany who i met on business. Hans works with mentally handicapped people in a local government run facility. Basically moving them from the bed to the little boys room and back again.Hans doesn't know the local area too well and based on a recommendation from a patient of his who was 7 years into mandated section we decided to check out the Pancake Place. Now i know pancakes. we call them griddle dreams where I'm from. So i opted for a Banoffe special. (in hindsight i should of probably got the bacon stack)The cost was about 10 dollars with a coke and to be honest cost price of the whole thing would of been about 50cents. the ice cream that came with it was the cheapest of the cheap. and the portion size wasn't great. I know though I'm a large guy at 25 stone. 5 pancakes twice the size with more toffee might of covered it.I see reviews here about the staff saying they are rude but to be honest the young girl that served me was nice and easy on the eye but i couldn't understand her accent and she couldn't understand mine, Was fine with Hans though. All in all i give this 33% on the freedom scale due to the half decent look of the place however it looses 80% for being over priced rubbish. Resulting in -63% for liberty scores. So if you want a pancake for -63 out of 100 this is the place to not come. Needless to say Hans has been banned from speak to his patents at work.AR

Visited here on the 10th of April for a late-ish lunch. Chose to eat here because i didn't think there were any better options around, realising now I should've gone to spoons. We originally sat down in a booth but there was a fierce draft, or I should say gale coming from the air conditioning so we moved to a different table. The young girl that dealt with us was lovely and friendly but unfortunately the rest of the experience let her down. My boyfriend ordered a "panini" which was actually a baguette - forgivable but still not what he was expecting and I ordered a burger, which was ok but I had to abandon the bottom of the bun as it was extremely soggy. Then here comes the deal breaker, there was tuna all up in my coleslaw! I really really dislike fish so it wasn't great, but considering fish is one of the 14 major allergens, this isn't something to be taken lightly. This place offers gluten free options - taking into account they can't even keep their tuna away from their coleslaw, would you really want to trust them if you were coeliac? When I brought this to the girls attention as she cleared our plates, she said she would go and get her supervisor. Another lady then came across and asked how she could help - so I explained. She then said she would take off the price of the coleslaw, even although this situation had ruined my meal. There was no real apology, and when I went to pay, still not apology. Not impressed in the slightest.

The kids both got a special kids menu which has activities/colouring games on it so that helps to keep the kids occupied until the food arrives! When the food did arrive - it was all fresh and well presented! My only slight gripe is that when I ordered pancakes with the toffee sauce I wish it came in a jug so I could distribute it rather than my pancakes swimming in the sauce (However I knew it would come like this from previous experience but forgot to ask for it in a jug) but other than that I would definately recommend. Older waitress came along and lifted my daughter's plate away without even asking if she was finished! (She wasn't! ) . She then asked myself if we wanted our "seconds" put on. I was still eating my salad at this point but just said yes anyway! They were not awfully busy but this particular waitress appeared to be in a bit of a rush! The pancakes served with toffee sauce and "fresh" whipped cream arrived and looked great however my duaghter quickly asked me if I thought the cream tasted alright as she thought it tasted funny! We were offered a fresh serving of pancakes but I'm afraid the cream once again was off! Tasted very cheesy and sour! Told them again and this time the young waitress came back and explained that the cream was made as a batch so we could only have sauce & ice-cream! Just went with that! Not really what I wanted but no choice! Went to pay the bill explaining our experience and woman on the till made no apology! Then tried to tell me that she had tasted the cream and thought it was ok! I asked her if her taste-buds were alright? She then said that the cream was only "slightly" off as if that was allowed! I told her that it shouldn't be off at all! Honestly what is wrong with these people who seem to think it's alright to serve food that's not fresh or fit for consumption! Don't think I'll be back in a long time!

Service was poor to terrible. Had to seat ourselves. Was asked what do you want. No thank you or how are you today? When cutlery was placed it was clattered down on he table. Plates too were thrust onto the table. Imn9 monyhs pregnant so didn't appreciate this at all as it made me jump. The food was ok butba bit soggy and husband's ws flavourless. Overall a very disappointing experience. Have many fond childhood memories of coming here however the place lacks the cosy personality and welcoming feeling it once had. Now its dark and drab a bit depressing. I wont be returning with our family again.

Visited here today, 13th of January 2017 with three friends + young child (2 year old) upon entering we were rushed into a booth far too small to accommodate us + coats etc, we started to get comfortable - exchange late xmas presents as we don't meet often, the waitress came by five times within the space of two minutes each time speaking to use like we were not welcome "will you order food yet?" is what this waitress kept shouting at us - huffing and puffing as we asked for a few minutes yet to decide from the menu. The menu.. well, full of overpriced food! £8-10 for a simple plain burger and chips or £6 for a plain ham sandwich and the drinks, £2 each for a rather tiny glass loaded with ice and quite frankly the fizzy drinks = no fizz left as a result of too much ice.I opted to order a simple fish and chips meal and was told that I couldn't order it without buying a drink on top and that I could not open the can of cola I'd purchased elsewhere because for all they know it might have alcohol in it - I can see there point with bottles but un-opened cans with receipt time-stamped from 10 minutes prior to entering the pancake place. The deserts sounded nice though there was absolutely no lactose free options and so this wasn't an option for me - friends however did order and were let-down by the quality provided - apparently rather bland and not very much flavor. I've been here before many years ago as a child and it was great, it's now way too over-priced with customer service greatly lacking - rude waitresses, and the manager.. well, definitely rules with an iron fist in there. I have to say I will not be visiting again.

Had lunch and as it was a Wednesday they have a discount if you are a pensioner which my friend and I are.So when we went to pay the manageress was very rude think she was stressed maybe because it was busy, but she should be pleased as there is so much competition. She told us how much we were to pay then I said is that with the pensioners discount she almost bit my head of saying no you did not show me your bus pass which I did not know you had to do and my friend said she was not asked to show it the last time when we were there but it was a younger girl then.Anyway showed her my bus pass then she said I have to see your friends as well, you just have to look at us to know were pensioners. Not a nice attitude at all we had only been a couple of times thought we would try it but will not be back she should not be in the job if she cannot be plesant to the customers

We visited earlier today for some lunch and the it was great! I've been a number of times and it's always the same level of service! We were seated really quickly and the staff were nice and friendly. I had a Cajun chicken panini and my partner had a club sandwich and they both came with the option of chips or curly fries and it was lovely, the portion sizes are big too! Definitely value for money!

History of hit and miss.Recently though been super impressed with their soups. We try and go in most weekends and have soup and a sandwich. Home made and usually lovely.Staff and service good and prices fair. Very well located and handy for car parking, buses or taxi. It's a Dunfermline institution and I'm happy to support it.

Needed Lunch to keep us going while pre Christmas shopping in the Kingsgate, and my daughter suggested we should pop in to the Pancake Place. Personally I'm not keen on pancakes but I went with the flow, as we were only looking for a snack. They were advertising stovies on a specials board outside the front door, which suited me fine, washed down with an Irn Bru. My daughter went with sausage, egg and chips, accompanied by fresh Orange & Lemonade. The stovies arrived in a fairly substantial portion, accompanied by three oatcakes and butter, and though there was absolutely nothing wrong with them, I would describe the dish as "average". I know everyone has their own opinion of how stovies should be cooked, and what ingredients should be included but my only complaint would relate to the fact the potatoes weren't very well mashed and as a consequence, contained a lot of chunks. Once I cleared a space in the serving dish, I mashed the rest of the potatoes with my fork. Apart from that, they were tasty enough and served nice and hot.I don't suppose you can do too much wrong with sausage, egg and chips but my daughter said it was really nice and again, quite a substantial portion. The restaurant appeared clean, and the booth type tables allowed plenty room for eating and setting down our shopping. The staff were friendly enough and made us welcome on arrival and while taking our order, so no complaints there. The cost seemed reasonable for what we had, coming to approximately £16 for the two of us.

Actually wasn't too bad. It can be hit and miss, but brunch today was fine.Prompt service and food didn't take too long. The lentil soup was hot and had flavour, the side salad fresh and the sandwich edible. There are better places in town, but on this occasion I'd say it has improved on my last visit some years ago.

Went into The Pancake Place and felt I was rushed to make an order, she didn't leave enough time for me to read the menu so I ordered the cheese panini which came burnt and wasn't a panini. It was a burnt baguette with lots of melted cheese on top and under cooked chips on the side. Staff members had their child running around the restaurant during opening hours who was also going into the back and near the table I was sitting at. I felt I was being rushed to leave as it was nearing closing time.

I have eaten at the Pancake Place on many occasions!!It is a really nice venue and the staff are very friendly and helpful!!The food is cooked fresh while you wait and the portions are a decent size!!I would say that the price of food is around the average price you get in most restaurants!!I would say that the meals are better value than that their sanwiches !!They have quite a few seating vbvbooths and also tables with chairs so it can accommodate a large volume of customers at any given time!!It is located on the top floor of the Kingsgate centre at the entrance leading out onto JamnJamnes Street which is ,where the town buses leave from so very handy for those wanting to use the buses!!

Me and my partner went here for breakfast. The staff were very rude from the minute we stepped in the door. They told us to sit somewhere after waiting at the sign 'wait to be seated'. All the tables were dirty so we sat down at a table full of dishes, after about 10 minutes a very unhappy waitress came over told my partner to move his menu and started cleaning the table, huffing and sighing. Around 10 minutes later another unhappy waitress took our order, my partner asked for poached eggs and was told only fried, I asked if we could have brown toast to which she replied well it comes with white unless someone asks for brown, is that not what I was asking?? We asked for beans as the breakfast does not come with them. We received our meal around half an hour later with no beans, by this time we didn't even bother telling them we had waited so long and the staff were so rude and unhappy we didn't even want to speak to them. We waited around 15 mins after finishing, no one bothered to remove our plates or ask if we wanted anything else so we went to the till and paid. Very disappointed.

Used to visit regularly when the kids were small, returned recently twice in one week (separately with each daughter) and had pretty much the same experience. Pancakes still in my opinion fantastic Banana & Toffee Sauce :) BUT Service shocking rude lazy staff, the floor was filthy covered in bits of food and papers, lots of tables not cleared although place was almost empty, the teapot was unclean, milk had floater in it, Coffee and Tea left untouched and waitress did not even comment. Returned thinking just an off day (although 1st not as bad as return visit) as my memories of this place were good Really Sorry to say will not be revisiting regardless of how much I loved their toffee sauce!

My boyfriend and I visited here at the weekend for a "quick" bite to eat. It was positive to start with - we were showed promptly to our seat by a nice, smiley waitress and our orders were taken quickly. The drinks and first course were also served promptly. Unfortunately our paninis were more like toasted hot dog buns, albeit with a lot of filling and curly fries/salad. Not bad food, just average. However, we then sat with our dirty plates for a good twenty minutes. It wasn't that busy but what annoyed us the most was that about three waitresses/waiters stood at the till area (right beside our table) either chatting about their weekend plans or rearranging hundreds of plastic sachets of sauces into little buckets - without glancing our way, despite us rearranging and stacking up our plates as a hint, and then pushing them to the end of our table! Finally our original waitress collected our plates but we then had to wait another ten minutes before we were asked "Do you want your bill?" ......um no, we were after a pancake to finish though! In total we were there about an hour and a half....All in all the food wasn't bad but there were so many young waiters and waitresses milling about doing nothing which irritated me.Patience required!

I LOVE pancakes and the Pancake Place used to be one of my favourite restaurants but we had a really disappointing experience. The service was extremely slow, the food was ok but on the pricey side for its quality. It sounds like a stupid bugbear but I wish they'd invest in some decent cutlery - our knives were so blunt we couldn't cut our food! Such a shame this falls so very short of being a good restaurant.

The kids meals are very reasonably priced 4.99 for a main drink and ice cream. They are brilliant portion sizes not too big definitely not too small either. The same to be said for adult mainsGood was hot and tasty and arrived in a reasonable amount of time. I had ordered 4 kids meals and 1 adult meal.Staff were friendly and helpful and even gave my children a balloon and a little egg with some choccy and a balloon to take homeThe restaurant was clean with A welcoming atmosphere. Visited here on a Saturday morning with my 2 teenage kids for brunch. A lovely warm welcome, we were given menus & allowed to choose a table so we opted to sit by the window. The menu has something for everyone even if pancakes are not your thing! We opted for Blueberry Stack (£6.95), Bacon Stack (£6.95) & Scottish Brunch (£7.50) where I had the choice of pancakes or potato scones. Drinks arrived quickly, the Cappuccino was piping hot! The food portions are on the large side so make sure you are hungry! The Blueberry Stack comprises 6 pancakes with a side of cream & a generous jug filled with maple syrup! Absolute heaven. The Bacon Stack has 3 large oval shape pancakes interspersed with bacon & a generous jug with maple syrup. Delicious! Finally the Scottish Brunch has everything you'd expect for a cooked breakfast. Very tasty! Not quite clean plates due to quantity of food but with a total bill of £24.15 incl drinks & friendly effecient service, we'll definitely be back!

It's been a long time since we've been at a Pancake Place so we treated ourselves to lunch last Saturday. We dutifully waited at the "please wait to be seated " sign, only to be handed menus and told "just sit where you like"! There were some odd combinations but we eventually ordered. When the food came it looked as if someone had thrown pancakes onto a plate, slapped the fillings on and chucked some salad at the side. No flavour and stodgy pancakes....ugh! Then when it was time to pay the girl at the till was too busy speaking to someone outside to notice the queue. Doubt whether we'll be back again

The Dunfermline restaurant is absolutely shocking! Firstly we had to have someone clean the table for us, when we ordered the cutlery that was brought out was dirty and glasses were also unclean. Off to a bad start.. After eating out meal we decided to order pancakes with chocolate sauce. They were on the menu at £3.95, my friend asked if they came with chocolate buttons (like the Kirkcaldy branch), she said yes. The pancakes came out and they were dreadful! Dry, bland and not in the slightest bit sweet. We complained at this after having only a few bites. The waitress told that was okay and they would be removed from the bill. Great...But, then the manager approached us, she did not once apologise for us not enjoying it but rather told us how this was their "best" pancake and everyone loves it. Fantastic customer service. She then grudgingly said she would take just one pancake off the bill...After paying for the meal, which was in no way worth it (the food is definitely not that good and the place/staff were not nice) we looked at the receipt...We had been charged £3.95 for the pancake which was correct, but then had been charged £0.65 for the chocolate sauce and £2.50!!!!! for a few chocolate buttons!! I asked why we were being charged for this, the manager told us that the waitress told us these would all have separate charges and had apparently said how much it would all be. She definitely didn't...It's fair to say I left the store more than angry with how we were made to feel. The service was shocking and the place itself was not clean!! In short, do NOT give your custom to this awful place unless you want to have a terrible time, be spoken to like a child and pay over the odds for quite frankly, awful food. Hope this helps people choose another place to eat :)

The food could be a lot better. It just seems a bit thrown together and a lot of the food is reheated from frozen. The only two times I've ever ordered pancakes, they'd been too burnt to enjoy. First time at the cafe, and I was disappointed, baked potato was dry even after adding two lots of butter, salad was bland and there was a slice of orange and chunks of kiwi fruit in it, don’t know why it was in there, luckily I noticed the kiwi fruit, as I have an intolerance to kiwi, I left the majority of the lunch it was awful, my partner had a sanswich which was really dry, didn’t look like there was any butter on it, if there was it was invisible. Definitely won’t be back
