Very delicious pie and chips. The man was super friendly and well-trained. Beautiful and cozy dining area.

We ate here with friends as the restaurant came highly recommended. Unfortunately our experience was ruined by the ridiculously long wait for food. Over an hour to wait with no apology or explanation is totally unacceptable. Our whole evening was ruined. We won’t be returning. Very poor customer service.

We recently had a large family Christmas meal at The Palfrey, and it was an excellent experience. The private room was beautifully arranged and provided a great atmosphere for our gathering. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure everything ran smoothly. The selection of craft beers was a real highlight, offering something for everyone. The food was very well prepared and full of flavour. The salmon was perfectly cooked, and the mussels were fresh and enjoyable. Every dish was clearly made with care, and the presentation was spot on. Overall, it was a fantastic venue for our family celebration. We’d definitely recommend The Palfrey for anyone looking for good food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere.

Visited for a Christmas meal with friends. Food was good quality, delicious and good value for money . Service was also excellent.

Extremely slow service. Staff were excellent however it told over an hour to get our main course. Apparently kitchen is too small.

The menu was boring and uninspiring. Fish dishes were fish and chips or salmon. Steak said 8oz but was more of an 6oz with no sauce and minimal chips. Stated a festive menu, only had a turkey burger. Bland christmas decorations so very little atmosphere. Service was great. Very disappointing visit 😕

Best roast dinner, had the trio of chicken pork and beef and all stellar 👌 red wine gravy was reduced and made sure to mop it all up. Cauliflower cheese is a personal favourite and none was left

A spot of lunch, halloumi flat bread, I found the homemade flatbread a little think, was tasty though. Very nice decor, would like to visit in the evening and try the evening menu, and soak up the atmosphere.

Absolutely fantastic, food was amazing and staff were attentive. The restaurant is modern with an industrial vibe and is well worth a visit.

Ate here with friends and had high expectations. The pub itself is a lovely place and the staff quite friendly. The menu is very limited and the Big Plates were basic choices only (pie and mash, fish and chips, burger, pasta and a steak dish) . We therefore had no choice but to order the Small Plates. We chose 2 each (crispy chicken, sea bass ceviche, bbq aubergine and flat iron steak) plus some chips. The dishes were all overly seasoned and fancy and small portions. At almost £10 per plate it was expensive and we left still hungry. We won’t be returning and will not recommend to friends and family.

Love The Palfrey! Sat outside for drinks then had a drink in the Arches - lovely atmosphere. We’ve had food here before and are booked in for pie night. Pizza menu looks good too!

Tried the newly reopened arches bar today,had the roast beef cob with roast potatoes stuffing pigs in blanket and giant yorkshire pudding, food was excellent, bar is a lovely dog friendly area with indoor and outdoor areas,highly recommend...

Fantastic restaurant. Excellent value for high quality food. Starter: whipped feta was creamy and a little tart. Superb flavours. Mains: beef was so tender I barely needed my knife and it was so very tasty. Veg was cooked to perfection. The gravy was excellent. Dessert: Creme Brulee was creamy smooth with a toffee crispy crunch. We were served quickly and expertly. Both satisfied and full for less than £75. The quality of food was high and very much worth it. The music was just right so that we could talk and enjoy the atmosphere. The restaurant is family friendly. Today the venue had opened a new bar in the vaults. Certainty worth a visit. Both modern and timeless at the same time it definitely has a 'place to be' feel. Without a doubt this venue is worth a visit.

We went on a Sunday ages ago, and it was ok for veggies, would be nice to go back an other day and try the full menu

Booked in to try the new menu of small plates and always did not disappoint. As always food, service and atmosphere were absolutely excellent. Highlight for me was the Ox Cheek Doughnut and Palfrey Cried Chicken. A real gem in our doorstep. Love it x

Looking for a place to meet up with friends that was kind of halfway between the both of us, and after a little interest search, happened upon this place. Read the reviews and decided to take a punt and booked it - happy to report, we were really not disappointed. Really nice setting, great interior, excellent service from start to finish and really, really good wholesome food done well. The service was attentive without being obtrusive, and all very pleasant and good natured. Food was well presented (and really good portion sizes too) and very tasty. Great value for money, great setting - would recommend in the blink of an eye.

Nice food and staff but slow service

We had an excellent meal here. The food was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The burger was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor, while the cod special was absolutely spectacular. The cocktails are meticulously crafted, and the ale is well-kept, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. All in all, I highly recommend this place for a fantastic dining experience.

What a fabulous gem of a place. Staff were lovely and considering we were the last in after a long service for them they were not pushy to leave. We will definitely return soon.

Just been for a meal Had to wait 50mins for my meal which was very disappointing Nut roast was ok the veg was poor 1 carrot 1 parsnip green vegetables disappointing no stuffing as listed on the menu.i asked about the above and got a poor reply..if the restaurant had offered me some sort of adjustment in my meal then perhaps it would have been ok bottom line is a poor experience with the amount of money I spent would I recommend this restaurant no

Having been here before in 2022 my friend and I we're excited to come again We thought we had booked the lunchtime menu as it wasn't clearly shown on the website, instead we arrived to find out only the Sunday lunch lunch menu was available I'm a vegetarian and the 2 options for me didn't seem appealing as I don't like wild mushrooms My friend had her heart set on the muscles and as not to ruin things I said I'd have the nut roast the other option I didn't particularly fancy. It said it came with pigs in blankets, duck fat roast potatoes and veg, I asked what do vegetarians get and the reply was nut roast and veg, I thought I'd be offered mash or something which comes with the pie. I decided not to have anything but insisted my friend did, she enjoyed her mussels and said the belly pork was OK and vegetables very nice, she finished with the brulle was tasty. Overall a very disappointing experience and won't be coming again

We went here with several families for a 50th Birthday. The staff were very nice, being patient with the kids and attentive to the adults. The drinks were very expensive and the food was OK, but also expensive for what you got- I ordered 'wild garlic chicken Kiev', which was a dry rolled chicken breast with crispy coating and no sauce, and a very small pot of macaroni cheese, no veg, for £18. Sorry, but that was not worth it. Others in the party faired better by the looks of things, and the kids ate their food, but complained of small portions. Not somewhere I'll rush back to.

We really liked this place so decided to go for our 1st year anniversary. Unfortunately the experience has left me not wanting to return. The starters was lovely - goat shoulder samosa. We were asked how we would like our meat cooked for our main roast - we both opted for pink rather than well done. Unfortunately the meat was over cooked, we couldn't cut it with a knife, I politely asked if we could have our meat changed as it was not pink as requested. The waitress came back after going into the kitchen and said that the Chef has said that it isn't well done - the gravy makes it look that way. I'm not a chef but i'm a pretty decent cook and we both know when meat is way overdone. They begrudgingly changed the meat but we felt embarrassed to have been spoken like that in front of other guests and our integrity questioned. If you want to serve meat your way, then don't give your guests an option!

We booked in for Sunday lunch,the food was without a doubt the best Sunday lunch we've had in a very long time, the staff were friendly and courteous, the building itself is well presented and decorated and I would definitely recommend it to anyone,we will certainly be returning again and again...

Superb place great food and service

First time visit to The Palfrey at its new location. Very easy to find on the A6 just outside Belper with its own smallish car park. We dined on a Monday Bank Holiday evening towards the end of service. There were tables available but I would always book to avoid disappointment as I know this is a popular place. The menu isn’t massive (a good thing in my opinion) but there is plenty of choice to suit all tastes. Food was absolutely delicious & for the quality very reasonably priced. Portions are generous so go hungry! Service throughout our meal was excellent. Highly recommend a visit to this lovely restaurant, we shall definitely return.

We have been here several times and always found the food to be of a very high quality and really good service. This review is more specifically regarding the lovely evening we had last night at The Palfreys first live music/ BBQ event. The burgers were absolutely delicious we had 2 each! Some-of the best I’ve ever had so credit to the cook manning the BBQ and it was a really nice evening. The pub is quite old but inside is very contemporary with a really high standard of decoration in a rustic/ industrial theme, very cool n hip. Very much recommend this place, main restaurant is a tad on the pricy side but if that’s what we have to pay to keep places like this open so be it :) You won’t be disappointed visiting this place.

Called in with some friends while driving south through Belper. Lovely atmosphere and friendly, welcoming staff. Menu is recognisable with some twists. I had the house burger which is topped with pulled goats shoulder. That's a twist which is inspired. Desserts are lovely but maybe not the biggest. You pay for Lovely items presented with care rather than volume. Made for a lovely evening.

The food was quite expensive, starters arrived quickly, but took some time (over an hour) for the mains and was quite average on arrival. May have forgotten about us as later arrivals served mains earlier. Chicken Kiev was very small, beefed up by quite a lot of average macaroni and cheese. Burger was ok, but quite dry and pink, just a burger. Prices more than other local restaurants. Staff were friendly, decor nice. Food much better in original Derby venue. Surprised at the amount of excellent reviews most seem to be people that give a lot of excellent reviews.

Too expensive for me but a nice little restaurant and popular with people

3rd time we have been now and the food was unreal again. Always enjoy going and will be back again soon

Just returned from a fabulous Sunday lunch at The Palfrey. Having visited previously we knew to expect great food and service. But. Today was exceptional. Service was excellent. The food was the best we've eaten all weekend. And we've been out all weekend. The Boot at Repton. Very good. Darleys for a champagne breakfast. Very good. Today took the gold medal. Mussels from Dorset so fresh you could hear the sea. Roast beef cooked to perfection, melted in your mouth. Couldn't have faulted a thing.

Absolutely lovely place and friendly, accommodating staff members. We came for a meal here and was not disappointed! The food was spot on, cannot fault anything. The prices are affordable too. We will definitely be back. Thank you 😊

I was slightly dubious about lunching here, due to a few recent negative reviews. I couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised! A warm welcome, a comfortable dining room with a nice amount of space between tables. Then the food. We all had the Sunday roast. I could not have asked for better. Really well cooked and seasoned. A huge portion (which makes me question the negative reviews). A great variety of vegetables on the plate and extra sides to choose from if you’re greedy, like us! I’m so glad my Daughter booked here - a really great place for our favourite meal of the week - Sunday lunch! I would definitely recommend 😊

Very Disappointing... My wife and I visited on a Sunday evening. We opted for a Sunday lunch and a bottle of wine. The service was very good with very friendly staff and the overall ambience was very nice, so we were expecting a nice meal. I had the lamb, I asked for it to be not fully pink. When it arrived it was very pink indeed. There was 2 slices in total, one was so fatty there was no meat that you could actually cut off to eat. The other piece was better but still very little meat you could cut off. I only had 2 roast potatoes but my wife only had 1 !! which I didn't know about until after we left. The desert was lovely. To sum up a very nice establishment with very nice staff, imagine how good it would be if the food was better.

Visited for a birthday Sunday lunch & what a disappointment. My husband had roast lamb, received 2 x slices of which the greatest proportion was fat. We were given 1 roast potato each which had obviously been cooked hours before as they were so hard & almost impossible to cut into. The decor & service & food presentation were great but the food itself was average at best. Had better quality in pub carvery settings at half the price.

Celebration lunch for two milestone birthdays in the family. A really lovely experience, great food and very attentive service. Highly recommend a visit. A very memorable occasion for us all.

Loved the decor and menu. Staff very friendly and helpful. But lack of atmosphere. Needed background music. Quite a few things on menu not available; 2 meals we wanted and also a mocktail as no elderflower cordial. Asked for our toddlers meal to come with our starters which didn't. Arrived 10 mins later when we had finished. Didn't seem to be enough staff on despite it being Father's Day. Service in general wasn't very prompt and it felt like we had a lot of sitting around just waiting for coyrses, menus, plates to he cleared etc. All in all I can see it has potential but some basic things meant this wasn't as good as it could have been.

I waited ten minutes at the bar, neither member of staff acknowledged me, a simple we’ll be with you in a minute would have done. Then proceeded to serve a group who arrived after me, in dribs and drabs.

Breakfast was awful poached eggs more like hard boiled no spinach (supermarket 5 min away) Egg Royale salmon steak hot !!! Instead of smoked salmon strips Homemade !! Pasties shop bought and burned when served inedible

Only ones in, food didn't arrive together, dropped utensil down my back, food was nice but I was in bed all afternoon with upset stomach. Getting to the place was a nightmare not good for anyone who has mobility problems. Doors in toilets too heavy to push but very decorative a talking point with the men.

Had to request they clean our table before we ate. It was very, very sticky, and there were crumbs all around the condiments in the centre of the table. There aren't so many choices for gluten free eating and the desserts even less so. It was our second time here and the first was by far better than this time. Just lazy things that if remedied would lift this place.

We had a dinner here and the following day [because it was so good] a lunch. Splendid setting for a well run and lovely restaurant. Staff were very friendly and service was excellent. The menu was well set with a wide variety of tastes covered and reasonably priced. My wife and I so enjoyed our 3 course meal that we went for lunch the next day after our morning hike. They clearly use local produce and the presentation and flavours were excellent. We will make a point of eating there next time we are down that way.

Within less than a month I’ve eaten here with my family for Sunday lunch, and with work colleagues during an evening. Unfortunately neither were representative of when this place first opened. Service was fine for the large work party, but just too slow for Sunday...

The second time I've been for a meal here and once again not disappointed. I think this is the best restaurant in the Belper area. Food is well presented. I had the small plates on the lunch menu which gives variety from the normal menu....

Recced place this evening prior to recommending a large group for dinner. Tiny portions for £16. Small 20cm x 6cm piece of haddock 6 chips and a meagre tablespoon of mushy peas. Other meals around the restaurant were meagre too. Waiter relayed my complaint to the chef, and same waiter said the chef apologised.... but no more. I left hungry. Frankly I felt insulted.

I’ve always been a big fan of the Palfrey and our recent visit for a special occasion didn’t disappoint! The service was excellent, cocktails supberb, food = 10/10! Thank you very much and we can’t wait to return 😃

Very disappointing!! I have been waiting to come and visit the new Palfrey location as it has for a long time been my favourite restaurant in Derby. I took my mum for Mother’s Day lunch and it was such an anticlimax! The surroundings are lovely...

Set within a lovely old building, this is a really nice restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food was really tasty and we had great service. Great evening out.

Second time I've made an attempt at breakfast after their advertisements. The first was underwhelming as half wasn’t available and we were sole diners. Google listing & website this morning state 9:30. “Greeted” by a staff member baffled as to our presence, claiming they open at 10, not 9:30, fair enough? It would be with an apology instead of being told we were wrong and it had never been open then. Could have been handled extremely differently and not ended with me deciding not to bother going again.

Shortly after we were shown to our table The menu was given us after a wait, and we ordered shortly thereafter. There was a misunderstanding by our waitress as to how the beef was prepared, which was quickly rectified by a waiter before the food order was ready Food was delivered to the table, and looked lovely. We weren’t offered sauces or additional drinks The food was good, though the (two!) potatoes were over cooked and so hard to cut. One small stuffing ‘bon-bon’ seems tight too, but it was tasty Overall, service was lacklustre, which is a shame. It’s a small setting, with a great food offering, and there were enough staff. We came as a group of 8 for Sunday lunch. Space is a little small but beautifully decorated. We all had starters which were nice, although the spring rolls were a little oily and a small portion. The mushroom starter was delicious. As for the roast, the potatoes were rather hard and there was only a little small ball of stuffing, other than that, it was lovely. As for dessert, the dark chocolate cheesecake was very good, but the base was very crumbly, not very set. I will also say parking is extremely limited, we all had to park in side streets. As a whole, would come back as it was good and a great ambiance!

We visited for a pre-Valentine's Sunday lunch. It was our second visit to The Palfrey and we enjoyed it just as much as our first. Both the excellent quality of service and food made it great value for money. Very much one of the best...

The Palfry has a lovely atmosphere,very high ceilings feels airy, but still cosy due to the decor. The menu is good, not vast, the food was delicious, beef with chunky parmigiano chips,kale,homemade onion rings and pepper sauce. I look forward to visiting again soon.

Visited here on the weekend and the food was amazing aswell as the service. The nachos and the beef were lovely, deffo worth the visit
