Good menu choice, food comes out sharply when ordered, tasty and good portion size, loved the music which adds to the excellent atmosphere, give it a go.

Smashed the mash, again. Yum! Haven't been able to eat here for a while, but it's not failed me yet. The meat was tender & tasty, the mash better than my mum's.

Highly recommend Afrikana derby I have visited there other branches but the food here is definitely a lot better very well located in the cathedral quarter clean and really enjoyed the music and atmosphere will definitely visit again

what a lovely restaurant . we hadn't booked and waited for a table , this place has such a nice atmosphere and music that waiting was not a problem . the staff were very attentive and friendly. my only issue was i should have ordered more food - as it was lovely and i could have eaten the whole menu highly recommended

I ordered a vegan meal and they delivered chicken, which I ate some of before I realised. When I called to complain they insinuated that I had ordered the wrong thing (I didn't, and I have the evidence still to prove that). Nobody apologised at all, and when the driver came round with a replacement he asked for the chicken version back. which luckily I'd kept. He didn't say sorry, and said to me "you haven't eaten some of this have you?", to which I replied that I had, and that I wasn't happy about it. (I have no idea what they intended to do with it) Also, they didn't replace the rest of the meal, so the chips were completely cold. The whole debacle was frankly disgraceful.

Birthday celebration. Second visit to Afrikana but this time with the whole family & was not disappointed at all. Food is amazing, good portion sizes, service is spot on & the atmosphere is relaxed. Great value!

Ordered on Deliveroo, the food was late and cold, called the restaurant for update and no one was picking up. When they eventually picked up I was given a wrong estimatation. Food eventually came and wasn't what I ordered. I asked for jollof rice and was given less than half a tub of rice. Was given rice and peas which is completely radiculous, if I wanted rice and peas I would have ordered that. Called in to ask what happend and the manager was so rude, shouting on the phone like I'm his child, so unprofessional! I've spent money and don't appreciate all that. Honestly I've heard wonderful things and I was so excited to order but wasn't a great experience. Wouldn't go back.

When my food arrived it was missing some food and I had to show the waiter the menu to prove I was correct, the tables were VERY sticky to then note that when cleaning tables there’s no cleaning product or disinfectant used but instead Mr Sheen polish so I dread to think about the bacteria build up going on in there. The glasses provided were also dirty with one having some pink/red residue on there. The plantain was sadly hard and cold and appeared it was rushed when cooked. I will say my salmon and jollof was well seasoned and tasty but I would say there are improvements needed especially with needing a disinfectant to clean rather than polish as after noticing this, it was a very uncomfortable experience. Very mixed feelings about trying again because the hygiene was poor and the service in-house was not what I would’ve hoped for or expected. A rating of 3 star is generous due to usual standard from them previously has been better as said when ordered online

Akrikana Derby exceeded all expectations! The steak was an absolute delight, and Ambar Sajjad, the owner, showcased exceptional kindness by accommodating prayer facilities for my clients. The staff's friendliness added to the warm atmosphere, and the place was spotlessly clean. A definite must-try, deserving every bit of its well-earned 5-star rating.

Good portion and experience when you dine in, but microscopic portions when you order online. Beats me every time .

Absolutely delicious food every time- we love visiting here and travel from Sheffield often, the staff are always attentive and the food is amazing! Flavour combinations are definitely well thought out and so good

I was searching for another restaurant using the map then coincidentally I saw this particular food outlet from afar the name was what caught my attention at first then on stepping in the Naija Afro beat jams they were playing got me glue and then a warm reception by the members of staff and to cap it all a mouthwatering and delicious meal. I came visiting at Derby and stopped by certainly I will be back again, I enjoyed my meal and my time.

Lunchtime meal. Very tasty and flavoursome. Prices very reasonable and worth a visit. Downside...cold so wear appropriate clothing. Assume when it is busy, it would be warmer?

Awful service. Said our food would be delivered at 5pm and wasn’t delivered until 6:30pm an hour and a half late. This is the issue of the restaurant as Deliveroo said they use their own drivers. Restaurant never answer the phone

Really poor delivery via Uber eats and no one answers the phone at the restaurant. Food is good but not worth it for the poor service

We visited Afrikana’s this afternoon and what a treat it was! We had the goat curry and the salmon followed by a mango cheesecake and the milk cake. We dealt with 5 members of staff and all were attentive, polite and enthusiastic about the restaurant and the food. All in all an excellent treat would 100% recommend and will be coming back again soon!

DO NOT GO HERE !!! I came here with my family and specifically mentioned that my daughter had a severe allergy and assured me that there would not be any cross contamination. There was indeed cross contamination since my daughter had an allergic reaction. They did not even give an apology and was extremely defensive. DONT ORDER THE JOLLOF RICE. How dare they even call it Jollof. Horrible, sticky and DRY! Worst £85 ever spent. ONLY nice thing I can say is the sweet potato fries & Africana fries were really nice.

Best. Lamb. Chops. Ever. And I always go for the lamb chops wherever I am. Food is divine. Service is impeccable. And the restaurants vibes are unmatched. I don’t even live in derby but I’ll happily travel 30 mins again and again for those lamb chops

Takeaway We have ordered many times from here. but tonight was disgusting! The sauce was horrible and the chicken was like jelly! One chicken breast was raw inside!!! Both meals were binned DISGUSTED! last order Afrikana!! Fuming!!!!

There's nothing African about this restaurant. First time ordering from here, spending over £60 to receive burnt and salty below average food is shocking, chicken had a horrible smell and my stomach is still recovering. All these 5 star reviews are fake on this place. I wish i never ordered from here, you'd think you'd get quality for the price they charging but clearly not!

Ordered food two hours ago as had guests, still waiting on the food the guests were leaving so I rang Afrikana who did not apologise and just said there is no refund. When asked how long they said five minutes. Half an hour still no food and rude service. Last time I will be ordering.

Visited this place while staying in Derby. Food was awesome, I got the half chicken in Afrikana flavour, it was the best I've had in a long time and dare I say it better than Nandos. Kids got some burgers and loved it too. I even asked for some Afrikana sauce tubs to bring home. Spoke to the owner who was very friendly and welcoming too. Great place. Will defo be visiting this place every time I am in Derby. Keep up the fresh amazing food guys.

Absolutely, in love with jollof rice. Tried them for the first time ever, and the spice level was above expectations and rice so flavorful. Everything was served hot and to the point delicious. Comfortable sitting. Nice and welcoming staff. Would definitely recommend it. If suggestions are welcome, then the songs should be played at a lower decibel. Music was deafening.

Wonderful food. Got the goat curry, bean burger, mac n cheese, jollof rice, and beef pastry, all were absolutely delicious. Since we don't have African food often, we all wanted to try a bit of each and the server was very accommodating by giving us extra plates when asked so that we could each take from all the different dishes, and they also gave us a food container when we asked if we could take the leftovers home. The atmosphere is also great, I loved the music and the murals on the walls.

Steak was so chewy and tastes bad. It had to much fat. The steak was served on top of chips like how am I meant to cut it. The peri burger has a chunk of chicken inside looked like a whole beast. And the mock tail taste like its from a corner shop. Don't recommend is waste of money.

Io ho preso il petto di pollo con riso, formaggio e riso. Davvero ben cucinato e ben presentato. Come dolce ho preso una cheesecake al mango. Deliziosa! Il proprietario é stato gentilissimo per tutta la serata. Abbiamo scambiato due chiacchiere. Sicuramente é un locale che consiglio a tutti coloro che visitano Derby. Bella anche la musica. Tutto pulito e curato.

Bit quiet for a Saturday night. Menu changed, dont know if affected business, no waiting at 7pm for walk in for 3, straight to table without booking...all had steak, sauce great, but could do with bringing back marinated versions, chips were coated in sauce - yummy...

Absolutely amazing had the steak was amazing the lamb chops were brilliant. I eat at restaurant across England and I have tried all the afrikana across England however without a doubt I would say Derby's branch was the best spoke to the manager himself he was extremely nice and him and the waiters provided brilliant service honestly would rate this 6 out of 5 starts if I could.

I order takeaways from this place all the time and was very disappointed with the restaurant menu and food. Very limited menu compared to takeaway. Lamb chops wasn’t cooked very well. Hanging skewers had nothing on them would be ok for a starter! Not quite sure why the restaurant menu is very limited compared to delivery! We won’t be back.

Love the "lady fingers" and music environment "goat your back" is massive

Fantastic food, spiced just right. Friendly staff and great service. I don't like mango or passion fruit, however the mango & passion fruit cheesecake is to die for, light and smooth. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Afrikana Restaurant in Derby, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment I stepped foot into the restaurant, I was greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming atmosphere that set the tone for an unforgettable evening. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the perfectly cooked salmon dish that I ordered. The chicken butteflies marination was bang on too. Overall 5*

If your looking for proper good food with real flavour afrikana is the place. We vist this place everyweekend and never disappointed food is out this world service is always good and very good prices. If you have not been and thinking about go you will not be disappointed.

Managed to get a walk-in table without a reservation for the two of us just after 5:30 midweek. A great reception from the waitress who was really helpful. A broad menu featuring some well known African dishes and some African-inspired UK dishes too. The smells of fresh spices from the kitchen convinced us to go with the chefs specials and we weren't disappointed. Freshly prepared food - a Jambalaya and a slow-cooked lamb casserole served in a hollowed-out loaf of African bread! Huge portions bursting with flavours, spices and magnificent aromas. The food arrived reasonably quickly and was more than enough to feed an adult. We got a main and a drink for under £20 each. Great value. Great menu. Great atmosphere. Amazing food... Definitely going back 👍

Went the other day. Honestly nothing looked good on the menu. It was very overpriced for what you get. Even coke it's 3.45 which is a joke. Got chicken and fries it fire flavour and jt was not spicy at all. Waitress was a bit strange. Would not go again ever

First time visiting very tasty food will definitely be back

This experience has left me very disappointed. The meal was dry, bland and undercooked. The sauces tasted out of date and the mocktails I ordered felt like a 3-year-old had put together. Before I made the journey to the Derby branch, I had already been to the Leicester one (which was amazing). This branch felt worlds apart from that experience. I did mention my dissatisfaction to the waitress but was given a clueless responce. She did not even apologise. I regret travelling over 40 minutes to this place. It just feels like I threw money in the bin.

After over a 2 hour wait for our food, it turned up missing one item, the other 3 dishes were all missing elements of the meal, they cannot prioritise the online orders, suggest their delivery times are 25 -40 mins and they have consistently been well over...by hours. Called to complain, was told we would receive a full refund for the order, and the manager appeared to be very appologetic suggesting this is not how they conduct business, but....this was over a month ago!! Afrikana continually avoid us, do not handle complaints well and have basically stolen money from us to the tune of over £50 for items missing. The manager never seems to be available and we have been promised to be contacted time and time and time again, and he doesn't. Terrible customer service, not even deserving of the one star.
