Great flavoursome food, Good reasonably priced, Good atmosphere overall I had a Lamb Tikka kebab, was present beautifully, just wish there were two 😅 halloumi, & houmous starter Consistently good service, with a follow up to check if everything was OK Would definitely recommend, and will definitely be back soon!

Terrible delivery service, don’t order them. They take over an hour to get here and will ignore all calls after telling you 15 mins on the first call

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Afrikana restaurant, and I must say it was an exceptional experience worthy of a five-star review. The highlight of my visit was the THIC Chick buttermilk chicken burger, which was nothing short of spectacular. The flavours were excellently balanced and the presentation was outstanding, making the dish a delight not only to taste but also to behold. Accompanying the burger, I opted for the plain chips, which were cooked to perfection. However, I also had the chance to sample the Afrikana chips from my wife's plate and was impressed by their delightful seasoning. I wholeheartedly recommend opting for these seasoned chips as they add a wonderful flavour dimension to the meal. The atmosphere at Afrikana was vibrant and inviting, with Afro music providing a smooth and energetic backdrop to the dining experience. Overall, Afrikana restaurant offers a fantastic culinary journey that blends great food and a lively ambiance, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and visitors alike.

Awful delivery service, have ordered twice from here and regret giving it a second go. Food was late again and was cold on arrival due to being poorly packaged. Never ordering from here again!

I specifically requested no cheese or sauce and 2 of the burgers contained cheese and sauce so could not be eaten. The food took an hour and 20 minutes and half could not be eaten. when I called to complain they told me I would get a free order next time I called and did not even offer to replace the food or give me a refund

Good quality food but only luke warm on delivery. No chakalaka with the bunny chow.

I was pleasantly surprised with the taste of the food here. Plenty of choice and quick service too. It's always good to try varied food, and this will be a restaurant I'll visit again.

Brilliant food as always, great atmosphere for families and parties, didn't have to wait long at all for the food to arrive once ordering. This place never fails to amaze me and as always great owner and team all round. One of if not the best food in Derby!

You never called me to inform me you were outside I was even stood outside so unsure how they say they couldn’t find me. I speak to them on the phone to ask where my order is and they say they have been and they arnt going to make another and i for the manager they end the phone.

Ordered a takeaway via uber eats for 1 x chicken checkmate phat box. Said it came with 2 wings, chicken tenders, plantain, jerk gravy, mac and cheese and jollof rice. For £22 delivered. Firstly the tray has a sheet of foil placed inside of it which means it can’t be fully filled. I’d probably say 1 tablespoon of Mac and cheese and jollof rice. Albeit the Mac and cheese was good though. Secondly, there is no plantain and jerk gravy. Was given a small pot of jerk sauce. Thirdly, for a platter that costs £17, the chicken tenders are the cheap tenders you buy frozen at a supermarket and fried. Really disappointing and flat Wings not the best but was ok. Overall do not order for home delivery from this place at this price point.

Food was great. Slightly expensive, but you’re also paying for the dining experience. Staff were lovely. Ordered the beef burger which is advertised as being a smash burger, but I found the patty to be quite thick to my liking. I’m sure next time I’d ask for it to be a little thinner - but to each their own!

I come to Afrikanas near enough weekly to the point where i have gotten to know the staff and the owner individually and have been looked after really well. Every time it has been consistently really good (hence why im back weekly). I have tried multiple afrikana places in the past but the Afrikana sauce from the Derby one seems way better than the rest, my family and friends have all unanimously agreed on it. Parking is right next to the place so getting there is very easy.

My go to is the lamb chops and the chicken thighs with afrikana fries. The staff are friendly and attentive, ensuring a welcoming experience from start to finish. it's a fantastic place to dine in Derby and the best around here too

After walking past afrikana several times decided to try it today with my family we tried there platters which were cooked to perfection and well flavoured the waiters were very friendly and attentive the restaurant it self was very clean and cozy homely feeling will definitely visit again 5*

Misleading completely was promised breaded fried golden brown and received 5 battered nuggets some being tiny. The fact you can falsely advertise like this is insane.

I went with my adult sons for my husband’s birthday. The food was delicious, quick and great value for money. They don’t have a liquor license so you can bring your own alcohol. Superb!!!

I felt the portion of the main thing was too small and the sides portion was too large like we were two persons and ordered two main courses and two appetisers still we felt eating fries more than anything else that we couldn’t even finish them. We hoped to eat main thing more when we are paying above 50 pounds ! Thanks

I was pleasantly surprised by Afrikana. Upon my visit I hadn't realised they're a chain and pleased to learn theres a few closer to where i live. The food quality was very good, very tasty, reasonably priced. Staff were bubbly and helpful. Very nice. I'd recommend.

Amazing food and friendly staff. We ordered the ‘We meet again’ sharing family platter which contains a wide selection of grilled meats accompanied with rice and rustic chips. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, everything was cooked to perfection with mouth watering flavours. We would highly recommend paying Afrikana in Derby a visit if you’re looking for high quality food accompanied by a lovely atmosphere. Thanks again!

5 star experience.. I came in to Derby Afrikana for the first time with two friends after work on the weekend. We were seated straight away, food and drinks were delivered in good time.. Every single dish looked fantastic and tasted just as good. Staff were friendly and took care of you. Had a lovely time and will definitely be returning😍.

3 of us went for a long awaited catch up and picked Afrikana over The Nines. That turned out to be a bad choice. Waitress was rude and had no customer service skills whatsoever. We asked basic questions, to which she didn't know the answer, eventually she said its her 2nd day working there, and didn't show initiative to check with a more senior member of staff, we had to ask if she could check for us, even then she was dragging her heels. Didn't know anything about the items on the menu. We spoke to another staff member about our experience, he seemed disinterested. Was a quiet night in there so no excuses for not giving your customers some decent attention. Food came well presented and at the time tasted quite good. However, we were all very ill later on that night and suffered from resulting food poisoning. In hindsight, the service we received was a red flag. Think twice before going here.

Ordered takeaway from here and I will never order again! For a start I paid £15 for a meal that came in a little meal prep type tub. The "rice and peas" is literally boiled rice with some kidney beans in and the plantain was like eating rubber 🤮 the flavours were nice on the chicken but was way over cooked and was so tough to chew. Really really disappointed mainly because of how expensive it was I was expecting it to be a lot better!

The food was terrible. The chicken wings were more batter than meat. The prawns were extremely small yet cost £11. The lamb chops were the only thing that tasted gaily decent, however were extremely cold. Waste of time and money

Very overpriced, take ages to get the food to you. They seem to cater for their mates at busy times. Food ok but service drags that down to.

Ordered via Uber eats. I didn't realise they were 8 miles away but they chose to accept orders from me anyway. Took over 2 hours to arrive when on the app states 30 mins. The first time I phoned, a young gent advised they couldn't find a driver at first but someone left 7 mins ago. I had phone again 40 mins later, so I suspect the first call was dishonest. The 2nd person who answered the phone an older gent said it would be another 10 mins. Of course it eventually arrived long after 10 mins. Food was good however. We paid extra for an Africana chips upgrade and got a side of Africana chips instead with the regular chips with the meals. Anyway, once the Uber Eats app algorithm knew the food was very late, I couldn't leave a review, hence I left one here instead. So the moral is don't over promise delivery if you don't have a driver and don't lie about updated delivery times when it's already running late - I wouldn't have left this if they were honest. Also for consumers, when using Uber Eats etc, always check the distance as many takeaways will lie about delivery times to compete for business. Finally, don’t take the reviews seriously on Uber Eats.

I would highly recommend Afrikana Derby. I really enjoyed Fried Chicken is Life - fried chicken with Jerk gravy, rice n beans, plantain and coleslaw, with a fruity mocktail and apple pie & custard to follow. Quick service and best of all super tasty! Will be heading to my hometown Cardiff one as soon as I get chance....

I love this place! It's the only place I know where I can get good south african food. I went last night for their bunny chow which unfortunately they had run out of due to high demand! So I chose a different dish that I never would have gotten otherwise. It was amazing!! And now I am dreaming about the next time I can go any try more of the wonderful dishes!! Happy happy accident!

I wasn't really fortunate yet to be there but often order takeaway from here. Their "We Goat you Back" is by far the best goat/lamb curry I have tried in Derbyshire. Their curry is similar to South Indian goat curry the way I like it, tendering meat, bit of spice and mouth watering flavours. I also order plantain on the sides and they're delicious too.

Ordered from Afrikana Derby, I was really looking forward to it as the food looked good… anyway food never turns up and is very late at this point which meant I went hungry for the night. Some guy turns up, he looks like a delivery driver and then proceeds to get arrested outside my house with 2 police and an under cover. I’ve tried to contact Afrikana via email to resolve the issue but been unable to find a reliable email that doesn’t bounce back. So unfortunately not a great first impression. (I had no tracking as it was Afrikanas driver)

Never order from this place. Tok over 2 hours for food and when you call they just say it's because they are busy. They then cancel your order last min. Very very poor customer service. Be warned!!

Ordered from Uber eats. Wait time 25-55 minutes they then increased the wait time- so waited 1 hour 30 food never arrived. Called them and they were so rude and said the food has not been made and will be another 25 minutes! Ridiculous. They then ended the call without me finishing my sentences and cancelled the ordered. This is absolutely disgusting customer service and will not be eating here again. Strongly advise not to order from here unless you fancy waiting 2 hours for no food and rude customer service

I rang the restaurant twice because it was so late. The first time I was told 5 minutes when it was already 20mins late. I rang back 15mins later with still no sign of the food. Finally it arrived 1 hour late, 2 hours after placing the order. Food was cold and so not enjoyable

Absolutely amazing! Ordered through Uber eats tonight and had half a chicken with Thier house sauce and oh my, it was the best chicken I've ever had! The flavour was just incredible. The chicken was so tasty too. Even the chips were perfect. I've visited Gambia, Africa a few times and miss the spices and flavours of the food so much but this meal brought it all back to me. Will definitely be ordering from here again, thankyou so much!

Ordered delivery of we goat your back, it was actually full of new potatos and only 2 pieces of meat it does not say on the menu it has potatoes in it, obviously trying to bulk it out 15 quid is a bit much for a potato curry when I actually ordered goat, only one piece of plantin and found a piece of yellow plastic in my food which I nearly broke my tooth on, looked like it was broken off a plastic fork. Won't be ordering from here again really bad quality for what you pay.

We had a lovely meal, food was delicious, service was excellent, children were made to feel very welcome and staff were really nice to them. Amazing art work on the walls too, lovely atmosphere.

Food is 45 minutes late, stone cold and half of the order missing and delivery driver has an attitude. Deliberately ignoring calls afterwards, assuming they recognised my number after chasing them 3-4 times for my delivery. I used to order here regularly, maybe every month £50. Very happy to never order here again. Owner called me afterwards saying he'd cancel and refund my order IF I removed poor review. Must think I am a mug. Refunded it through the app and will review shortly on there also.

Being an ex-Durban girl I was transported back to my misspent youth when I tried their the mutton bunny chow. OMD it was AMAZING! My only regret is we don't live in Derby or we'd be back for more of the same every week. Gorgeous, deep flavour and melt-in-your-mouth meat - thank you for the trip down memory lane :)

One of the starters didn’t arrive, £3 was sent in 50ps and that didn’t even cover the starter missing, no mention of chips with the chicken so ordered chips and spinach with meal no spinach so got double chips lol
