The Palace in Powys

We used to use the Palace many years ago and after returning to the area thought we would pay it a visit - sadly a mistake. The evening didn’t start well. We were asked to wait rather than being seated while the staff sent out take aways. When we were seated the room for diners was cold. Guests were eating with coats on…. We ordered a drink and poppadoms and main courses. The main courses arrived nearly an hour after we entered the restaurant. The staff told us they had been prioritising take aways. The lamb dish advertised on the menu was really poor. There were four slithers of lamb and the meat was tough. The Chicken Balti was also not good - the dish was ruined by far too much rough cut onion. When this was pointed out to staff the response was to try and tell us that this is how the dish is served in India - laughable. Please don’t tell brummies how a balti is served India - we invented it…. After making polite observations to the staff they went into a sulk. We won’t be returning.

Looks small from the outside but inside you’ll find a lovely clean dining area , great food the best curry in the area (and we do have lots of curry experience ) and very friendly service. It was very quiet in the restaurant but it lots of takeaway. If you are in the area it’s a must . Highly recommend.

We were on a holiday to wales and stayed in the hobbitat homes, this was not far away and was an excellent, exquisite and elite Indian restaurant with great food, drinks, and service. The total price was a bargain considering the huge amount of food we ordered. If you want a local indian or are just visiting go to the palace.

Going to the Palace is a lovely experience. Food was superb but surround that by the amazing team of staff that serve you, made our evening out.. perfect. Highly recommended.

We were staying a few miles away and found this place on Google and at first driving past it looked pretty small but after going inside we changed our minds the staff were absolutely amazing and Ali at the counter was so full of life and energy and made us feel so welcome and the food was absolutely amazing would 10/10 recommend anyone coming here we will definitely be back on our next stay here in wales 😁

A very pleasant evening, food amazing. Some new dishes on the menu. The fish curry was so tasty. Restaurant was warm. Staff welcoming and friendly. Good value for money. I'd thoroughly recommend The Palace. We'll definitely be back 🙂

We were holidaying in the area and fancied an Indian meal and came across The Palace online. We struck lucky 1st time. The food was amazing. Up there with the best Indian food we have eaten. What a find!

Came across this place accidentally, but what a great find, been working in the area for the last 4 years & this is the best Indian food I've had & believe me I've tried most of them. Will certainly be back.

On holiday locally and came across this place by accident. Fancied a curry so took a chance. Best curry for ages even though we are well served in Manchester. Excellent service and everything freshly prepared. Brilliant

So we've been going to the Palace for about 18-years........ We love Sonny (the owner) lovely bloke..... always asks after our (now grown-up) kids, who we took to the restaurant as babies & hid under the table in their car seats....... The Food..... if you're a BIR Curry or even a traditional home style expert/lover, you may be disappointed..... But if you judge their food on its own merits (as a signature/style of the restaurant), it's difficult to fault.... sometimes a bit sweet, but unlike so many restaurants, I've never experienced raw/uncooked chili with their hotter dishes.... Great place to go with an open mind.....

We dropped in for a meal at 5.30 and we're met by Sunny and Ali. The food was absolutely amazing. Well presented and piping hot. I would highly recommend.

I just felt the need to write a review to say, tonight’s takeaway meal brought on the 06/08/2022 was just incredible!!! Truly one of the best I’ve ever had from your already exemplary restaurant! It’s a high bar to jump with the consistency you achieve regularly though your restaurant and your team. However tonights food was beyond, fit for royalty! I just had to write a review to say!! Phenomenal and thank you and your staff, always welcoming and striving for excellence.

During a weeks stay in Llansantffraid we had two takeaways from the Palace. Just the best takeaway food that we have had in many years. I wish we lived near to use it often.

We were a table of 6 and had a lovely meal with amazing food and a great atmosphere. They were very aware of All ingredients in there food as a couple of us had allergies and were able to advise us. Friendly staff and plenty of parking locally. Also a great takeaway on previous visits.

Really authentic food. Couple of very innovative dishes- the pistachio Nan and the Welsh lamb curry were out of this world.

Tastiest curry we have probably ever had, and coming from Birmingham where curry houses are everywhere, this is high praise! Rice was perfect, poppadoms and naan so fresh. Both of us really enjoyed our main meals. Service was amazing, people are so friendly and welcoming....

Have had superb takeaways from The Palace but the last two were not so good..tough Lamb & chicken had a lingering taste..it’s as if the meat supplier has changed..have sampled a wide cross section of dishes, more than once, and have never been anything but...

Amazing food, can’t fault it, I highly recommend the Lamb Kurma and my wife recommends Chicken Madras. Very professional, food is always piping hot and the takeout standard is perfectly packed for the journey home.

I don't know what's happened here. Live relatively local and so use this place quite regularly. Service has plummeted - long wait, people having to go to the bar to try and get service. Food, when it arrives, is still good, but the overall experience,...

Stopped by after hearing amazing reviews from friends, however when we arrived we were disappointed. We were seated with no menus or offer of drinks, a member of staff arrived to take out order at which point we told him that we had no menus. He immediately brought two over to us, however almost straight away another member of staff came over and sharply said “orders now” Took our orders and walked away. Food took a while to come out, the rude waiter appeared a few more times during our meal, and again was loud and sharp with his offers of drinks. He was often in the restaurant loudly moving furniture, which impacted the atmosphere. If it wasn’t for an amazing young waiter I think we would’ve rated the service a 1 star. The food was lovely, just a shame one waiter made the whole experience uncomfortable.

We have eaten from here a few times and have never had any problems with the food.I have the chicken tikka masala and it's the best one I've ever had, love the added nuts, gives it so much flavour! The samosa is different to what we have ever had but again, really nice!

We’ve eaten here a fair few times over the years, never had a bad meal. Staff always attentive, no matter how busy they are. Food is very good, as is the service. Keep doing what you are doing!

Visited with my partner, he was treated well but I was pretty much ignored by the front of house man! Pretty much slammed my drink down onto the table. Young waiter much better manners. Think I’ll give it a miss for a while

Had spoken to a few people about this place who all said it was very good so gave it a go, food was very hot when we collected it and the staff very friendly, the food was good tasty and well cooked not the best we've had the Madras was a little watery and not very spicy everything was cooked wall all the other meals we had 4 were good.

Had a take away from the Paace yesterday. The young man on ‘reception ‘ was lovely, very polite and attentive. The food came and we took it home, a 40 minute journey so we had to warm it in the oven when we arrived. It made no difference, the food was amazing, one of the best ‘Indian’ meals we have had. My husband and I have been here many times. Sunny the owner and the staff always make us very welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The food is always piping hot and very tasty. Would highly recommend and will be going again.

We go here regularly, we love it every time. The staff are nice and friendly, nothing to much trouble, very happy to help. Food is always spot on, cant fault anything. Nice andclean, good tasty food and friendly staff. We will be back soon.

The station could not be any better than it is already, fantastic staff and fantastic food! Nothing is to much trouble from the moment you walk in and the food would not be out of place in a top London resturant!

Thoroughly enjoy this place! Friendly staff, great atmosphere and nothing’s too much trouble. The food is absolutely beautiful, and the egg fried rice to die for! Highly highly recommend. Often visit for a scrummy 2 course meal, complimentary baileys at the end of the visit. Lovely little touches, and on special occasions!

I had lamb curry,mushroom fried rice (recommend by a friend) which was lovely and a garlic Nan which again I would recommend to anyone whom likes garlic bans. Service and food was brilliant and made my friends birthday a very happy one. Five of us highly enjoyed our night out. Thank you the pslace! Lovely

Been here so many times and every single time the food is beautifully prepared, fully aromatic and a joy to eat. Service is impeccable with polite staff willing to help. Very clean and would highly recommend it.

We are regulars at the palace & the food & service are always excellent. The chicken is so tender I never use a knife. The napkins smell so fresh & everywhere looks lovely & clean

We visited The Palace on September the 18th 2018 to celebrate my birthday. If you look at the outside of the restaurant we frankly did not expect too much. But boy were we surprised! We had a warm welcome and got all the help we needed to make a choice from the very elaborate menu.

We go here fairly regular it’s a lovely clean restaurant staff very friendly and carnt do enough for you , well worth a visit .

Amazing food! I couldn’t come to Wales without trying a welsh lamb dish. Their new dish lamb Modhu was divine. Excellent customer service. A visit here is a must if you are in area

The insignificant facade hides a lovely interior. Great and prompt service. Really nice food. Replenished our energy after a day clambering up Snowdon.

Come to stay in Llanymynech every year and visit The Palace. Food is gorgeous and the manager always remembers us.

I've lost count of the number of curry houses I've ate in over the years. I would say that this place is pretty good, but for the price the portion sizes are very small. There's not much choice locally and they don't have much competition in the area, so I guess they make the most of it. The quality of the food is decent. The meat is tender and juicy and I normally have a take away. It would be great to see them offer a discount of the restaurant prices for take away food. You generally don't get much for your money but with little competition if you fancy a curry it'll serve its purpose..

Very tasty Pathia. Early evening visit and we were the first customers so got the undivided attention of two waiters. One super chatty and one the faultless professional who made a great double act. Service was swift and both checked everything was ok. Can't fault the food service or price

Visited here whilst staying in the area. Not really knowing where to eat we read some Trip Advisor reviews and decided to give it a go!

We used to go every couple of weeks but last visit the meal did not resemble what was ordered it was a curdled separated mess, which was not eatable, I was not asked once by staff whether the meal was alright, when I went to pay at the end, I was asked if everything was alright, I replied if you take care to look at the table you will see that the meal has not been eaten as it was awful, I was asked if I would like it as a doggy bag to take home, I patiently explained that if it was not fit to eat in the restaurant why would I want to take it home. There was no apology and I was charged full price, I explained to them that because they felt fit to charge full price for a meal that was not what it should be I would never return to the palace again. Whilst we were there a table of 8 ladies were having a similar experience.

On the way back from Gobowen to Tregynon my wife and I decided to stop off for a belated anniversary meal. We opted for an Indian and as we were passing through Llasantffraid we decided to try The Palace. We’d had a takeaway from here before and enjoyed it but that was some time ago so as the reviews were good we thought we would sit in. We were not disappointed, we both had starters and main and were pleased with the portions, flavour and quality of the food. The service was excellent and it was good value for the money. We both agreed we would come back the next time we were in this area.

El palacio es nuestro restaurante más cercano, india y habíamos pedido de ellos, pero nunca he comido. Probamos el restaurante en un martes por la noche y no estaba lleno como se esperaba. El personal era cortés y ofrece un buen servicio de mesa.

Nos llamó por teléfono a través de nuestra orden como estuvimos pidiendo para 11 personas, pensando que sería más rápido de esa manera. Nos dijeron que 40 minutos, que era razonable. Sin embargo, esperamos otros 20 minutos cuando llegamos al restaurante. Además de usar el menú en línea a la orden ya que no son de esta zona. Pero cuando fuimos a pagar casi era 10 libras más. Me dijeron que había un menú nuevo. No muy bueno para no han cambiado el menú en línea.

Siempre de calidad excepcional del palacio en Llansantffraid. Aparcamiento gratuito a 1 minutos de distancia. La última visita fue de comida para 10 personas, todos muy contentos!

La mayoría de nuestra comida era buena, el 2 diferentes platos de cordero eran correosos y grasos. Mi queja principal es que visite este llevar unas 3 veces al año, sin olvidar que cuando entre en el orden en el teléfono, con un montón de antelación, usted todavía tiene que esperar a una edad cuando llegue al restaurante, es ridículo. Cuando estuve allí la semana pasada, esperé 45 minutos cuando me dijo por teléfono que la orden tenía que ser preparado por un cierto tiempo ya que los niños para ir a la cama, así que en consecuencia, toda mi noche fue deshecha porque no espabilen. Me aseguró por teléfono que no hay problema en ese momento, ¿por qué creía que yo no sé. Había otros 6 conjuntos de personas esperando en la sala de espera, 2 niñas espere 20 minutos para una mesa y no había nadie sentado en el restaurante, por qué no podría haber sido conducido a una mesa es más allá de mí y no entiendo por qué. El resto de la gente, eran bromas me pregunto si la muerte la próxima edad de hielo/o comida vienen primero, un muchacho dijo que no pedidos por teléfono más ya que no hay ninguna diferencia. Pasamos casi 100 libras y no volveremos, no han conseguido nada mejor - la línea 'esperando el naans' se ha utilizado más de una vez esa noche y la última vez que fui, me ofrecieron una bebida para disculparse por la espera interminable (una hora) como mi comida era, un poco tarde? ! ? Si efectivamente su comida cocina startd cuando te pedimos, que nos puede ayudar, hasta entonces, buena suerte.

Hemos visitado el Palacio por 22 años y nunca he sido decepcionado! El personal siempre es amable y acogedor. Lamento cada vez que creo que probaremos en otro sitio porque no se acercan!

El título lo dice todo, muy buena comida india en el restaurante o para llevar, si no han conseguido en el menú pregunta son muy serviciales.

We fancied a curry that evening but had no idea where to go so we asked our barman at lunchtime. Checked the reviews and they looked good. Decision made we drove there and it is such an unassuming frontage we were a little apprehensive.However, it was clean and modern inside, the staff polite and the curry (we're from Brum so we know a good curry) was perfect. Don't be put off by how it looks from the road.

Eat in or out fantastic service very clean staff always make you welcome. Tried lots of different foods never had to complain great value.

Been visiting the Palace for years when I'm back in area. I can honestly say it's the best Indian takeaway I have ever had. Not greasy and heavy like other Indian restaurants. Staff always friendly and very prompt, when they say ready in 40mins etc. it is always ready or near ready so you haven't got to wait long. Have never eaten in restaurant, always take away so can't comment on restaurant but always looks busy!

Good food as always - but as always it is blighted by lazy idiots who park illegally outside - I will not visit again until owners put up sign suggesting people do not park outside as its illegal

Had a take away from here tonight - not the first time and won't be the last - what was a first was a mistake with the order (mine not there's it turns out) not only did they replace my food but made me samples to check I was getting what I wanted .... Totally amazing service that really went above and beyond! Thank you soooo much guys :-)

Good value and very friendly staff, amazing food lovely menu, we use this place a couple of times a month and always go back.

Have dined here before and was really impressed by the whole package but this time we tried the takeaway option rather than dining in the restaurant.Staff polite, meal ready on time, price OK, meal was good apart from the Naan bread which was very soft inside and "doughy" and the poppadoms came with quite a small amount of relish which is disappointing apart from that it was OK.

Lovely clean restaurant. Nice selection of food available, staff very nice and friendly. Will deffinatly return, would recommend the battered bananas as a dessert they where amazing.

If you do get to mid Wales, then find this Indian.The food is fabulous and the staff very knowledgeable about the menu.They told me to try an off menu special that they eat at home, and l was blown away !Great food, helpful staff at a fantastic price.

Went here with a group of friends. Great attentive service. Lovely wine. Very reasonably priced food. Personally i didn't like my meal. I ordered cylone..which is new for me but had lemon chilli and coconut...all my favourite flavours! Unfortunately it only tasted of lemons, very sharp indeed! The other party members enjoyed their food, so I guess it totally depends on what you order! Lovely shot of free baileys at the end! Thankyou.

Went out en famille (me, hubby & 3 starving teenagers) to The Palace last Sunday night - and had a very good experience. We booked but didn't need to! The staff are amazingly attentive - cannot fault the service and the food was really very good - and filled up the hollow legs of ravenous teens! And the bill was exceptionally reasonable. Would like some more inventive vegetarian choices (you can only have veg curry so may times) - there was no paneer at all on the menu which I thought was odd.

We consider ourselves to be experts on Indian cuisine, having dined at the best and worst over many years. The food here is top quality. We have had takeaways and now dined in. Never had a disappointment. The menu is extensive and the waiting time is lengthy, but as they claim to cook meals individually for quality reasons it was worth the wait. The place is clean and tidy and the waiters are friendly without being intrusive. If you live in Shropshire borders region, this restaurants is worth the drive, for the quality .Price wise they are undercharging and could afford to ask for more.

I've been going to The Palace since they first arrived in Llansantffraid ( I think something like 20 years ago.) but haven't been for some time. The family ate there last night and if anything, its got better. As long as you don't want fake Asian decor and cheesy Indian music, its difficult to find fault. Super clean unpretentious surroundings, top class food and friendly attentive service. We're lucky to have this oasis out in these hills - it won't be long before I'm there again !

Stumbled on this place quite by accident on the way through to Oswestry. After a disappointing experience in Welshpool we resolved to try it, and I'm very glad we did.Although it was a very busy Saturday night when we went, and the bar was crammed full of people waiting for takeaway orders, we were seated quickly and had a lovely meal, with only a slight delay due to how busy they were. Crucially, the staff - whose service was top-notch - kept checking on us to make sure we were OK. The food was fantastic and the biryani is one of the best I've had for a long time. There was a minor mix-up with the main courses but again, readily and pleasantly resolved. The prices are reasonable and we had a really lovely evening, so much so that I'll be booking it for my birthday meal in October. Thanks guys!

Have driven past this restaurant numerous times, and eventually decided to walk in for a sit down meal. Very attentive and friendly staff. A good choice on the menu, with plenty of advice from a member of staff-we ordered their recommendation, and we were not disappointed.
