Great staff and very helpful. Crispy beef salad wad superb. But only 2 scallops for starter is really poor value, especially as it used to be 3 and slightly less expensive

The food is amazing and the service is even better. We got to hear about the wine we chose and how it was selected to be on the menu as well as getting some good recommendations for other wines to try in the future.

We visited The Packhorse on a Wednesday, the pub was very busy but still compliant with Covid restrictions. Very nice food beautifully presented. The ideal English Country Pub.

We had our 50th wedding anniversary here last night, which was secretly organised by family and friends, & everything was excellent. Staff were very accommodating & complimentary about the occasion. Thanks to all involved.

Really enjoyed our recent meal at the Packhorse. I was particularly impressed with their vegan and vegetarian options. Also 10/10 on the chip portioning! They good chips but they also give a sensible amount not a cholesterol-inducing mound like other pubs. Kids meals were nice and the garden is lovely for families. Could do with some more umbrellas on the hot days but that’s a minor niggle.

My friend and myself went for a lovely meal great food and the young girls who served us were lovely. We had the table booked for 1 hour 45 mins. We had finished our meal and were just chatting at 6.50 when a senior female member of staff asked if we had finished as me wanted anything else? I said no thanks and asked for the bill.. she then said that the next people were waiting for our table. I didn’t appreciate that and found it unprofessional to Push us out. We paid £75 for our meal, not good.

Perfect food, service & atmosphere.

A really lovely place to go for a Sunday lunch! A beautiful pub with a garden which was perfect for a toddler. The service was spot on and the food was really good. Staff were really welcoming. We actually came to the wrong pub but they were able to fit 10 of us in for Sunday lunch and we had a great time. Highly recommend and will be going back!

Service was OK, not really the best I've had but the scenery on a hot day and the garden out back made up for it. Perfect place for a cold one if you are in Reading.

Bit of a mixed bag experience really. Poor selection of low/alcohol free lager, no af cider. Guy who took our food order missed my meal off and by the time id realised it wasn't coming, gone to enquire then found I had to buy it because it wasn't put through then delivered, one of the guests had finished their meal and the other two were nearly finished. The potato cheese and onion pie wasn't served as a pie, but as a slice of pie. Definitely required some seasoning as quite bland. The roast pork dinner was apparently delicious. Not too enamoured at allowing dogs to roam free in the garden with seemingly no owner control or cares. Quite disappointed really as its a lovely pub with a great beer garden. If id had the pork and been served on time it'd be a very much more positive review.

Great Pub and restaurant. Formal dining area plus a lovely snug style area with open fire near the bar. Big garden with table service. Food is always good quality and an ever changing range of guest beers. Very dog friendly.

Nice pub I have been going to for 30 years. Now upgraded to serve good food as well as always having a great range of real ales and gins. Has a nice garden behind for sunny days.

This gem of a pub was a bit of a find for us. The location is superb with plenty of parking at the front and a beautiful garden (with a small playground and a toy tractor) at the back overlooking the Cotswold's farmland. The pub itself is full of character, the food delicious and service is friendly. We enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast and took our time as it was a beautiful sunny day when everything seemed to be just right. Perfect in every way!

Just arrived Sunday afternoon on the off chance of a table at 5pm . Waited maybe 15 mins max and table was available. Staff were extremely busy, but managed to stay polite and cheerful. Food was outstanding. If we hadn't had a long journey home, may have stayed longer and has desert. Perfect stop off on our road trip.

We popped in on our way home, and impromptu visit as we had intended on going somewhere nearer home but boy are we glad we stopped here. The food was first class. I had braided beef and mash and veggies and the meat was so tasty, the other meals my wife and her sister had were also amazing. The dessert, a rhubarb, orange and ginger pudding was outstanding. We will definitely call in again when we are in the area.... 5 stars from me

Fabulous food, just lovely. Really pleasant service. Wheelchair access...a big chair would be challenging, and active one is fine. Good loo for wheelchair. Outside fine for wheelchair. Parking is flat.

The staff (Doug, Stan, Lucia and Daisy to name a few) are so welcoming, the beers are perfect and I'm looking forward to trying the food. Update: the food is faultless, my current favourites are the crispy beef salad and the steak sandwich. Update II: The Spanish stew was amazing and complemented the beautiful sunny spring day in the beer garden. So peaceful but with the perfect level of friendlly and professional attentiveness from the staff.

This was a late lunch on a Sunday at a pub which is clearly for families. Food was good service was very friendly but a little bit amateurish. I think they were shortstaffed and the atmosphere was perfectly okay for what it’s trying to be.

My favorite place , I love everything about it , staff are amazing foods incredible great events ... Love it!

Found this pub by accident on the way out of Reading, so pleased that we did. We pre-booked a table via the app (from the car park as it was busy & waited 45 minutes for our time in the car lol) What a lovely pub restaurant, a very nice welcome from the staff, we were shown to our table, with menu and ordered a couple of drinks. We went for starters of Prawn cocktail & Padron peppers & mains of Fish & chips & Chicken, leak & bacon pie. The food was great, service & staff and the pub is lovely.

I recently came to The Packhorse with my family and felt it was important to share the lovely experience! I had booked a table of 10 for a Sunday. We were warmly welcomed and taken to our table, which was ready to go. The staff were super friendly and attentive to us throughout our stay. The food was lovely! All arrived in very good time (which was quite amazing for a busy Sunday afternoon) and was piping hot. For mains, we had roasts, burgers, fish and chips, and more, with everyone enjoying theirs. We also had some puddings, including sticky toffee pudding, brownie, tiramisu, and more. These were also good! Personally, I felt the sticky toffee pudding was a cake rather than a pudding, but it was still enjoyable nonetheless. I would highly recommend coming to The Packhorse and will definitely be returning. While it is not necessarily "cheap," it is definitely worth the price, not only for the quality of the food but also for the hospitality, service, and warm cosy atmosphere. (Also, of note, I feel it would be nice to have a few more vegetarian options on the menu - perhaps a vegetarian/vegan burger 👀)

Went for lunch and had an enjoyable relaxing family meal, tasty food all round. Good choice of 3 courses. Been here before and got beer, food to have in the garden when we were near the end of an 11 mile walk and needed the refreshment.

Lovely venue just outside of Reading. Warm welcome on a chilly evening from the staff, large open fireplace roaring in the bar area making for a cozy space. Decided to sit and have dinner in the bar rather than the restaurant as felt more relaxed with the fire going. Staff were attentive and cheerful. As it was a Sunday we opted for the roast beef with a side of cauliflower cheese. Both meals were generously portioned, plenty of roast beef, perfectly cooked to medium rare which may not be to all tastes but perfect for us. Lots of green veg included, and some delicious homemade Yorkshire puds with gravy to finish off the well put together meal. Both plates were bare afterwards so definitely a good sign. Puddings were chocolate fudge cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and a crème brûlée. Again, not a crumb left between us! Decaf latte for afters which again was spot on. Throughout the meal we had table checks, making sure all ok with our meals and for any further drinks orders. With it being end of winter we stayed inside, but the garden area looked impressive and must be a real draw for the sunny weekends and evenings. Will definitely be back to try a few of their cask beers too, unfortunately driving on this occasion but had a good variety on offer. Went for a safe option with Guinness which tasted perfect. Wine list looked impressive as did the spirits and mixers. All round would recommend The Packhorse for anyone wanting some delicious pub food, a warm friendly atmosphere and a great selection of drink options!

What a lovely restaurant! The building is an architectural gem, well maintained with the old interior, lower ceiling, wooden floors, fire place and robust furniture. There is a beaufitul garden with many tables and both garden and pub is well maintained. Warm and welcome staff. The food was delicous and portion was very decent. I come here for a Sunday Roast it is one of the best I have ever had. As always you can choose which meat you want and this come with roasted potatos and carrots, steam green vegetable mix(beans, leek and cabbage), creamy celeriac puree, yorkshire pudding and gravy. I can highly recommend this place!

Just stopped for a quick drink after a little shopping. Can not recommend the bar snack crispy squid enough - stunning. Great bar staff who were attentive and friendly. An absolute delight to the afternoon. Food that others had looked stunning - shame we had something in the slow cooker.

All in all a good cosy pub bit the staff was a bit slow. We went in for some lunch around 14.00, left around 17.00 and we only had main and some dessert. The staff sat and had a coffee in the middle of the pub and talked to each other. They were never rude or anything but it is a little bit long to sit for 3 hours just to get some lunch

Nice pub and busy atmosphere, friendliness staff, and good albeit a little slow at times service (considering how busy they were at 4pm). First time eating here, and unfortunately, the beef roast was a little underwhelming for 22£ Reasons vs other local options. Much smaller meat & veg portion, very thin gravy. Beef really wasn't very flavoursome. Great mash & selection of drinks. I'd definitely go back again but not for a roast atm.

We were served by an outstanding member of staff called Becky. She was friendly, polite and helpful. Went above and beyond our expectations. She made a family meal into a very special occasion for us all. Please pass on our comments to her.

We popped in to this great pub on the way back from a Wassail in the village down the road. Fabulous service. Excellent beer. Food looked amazing but we didn't have time for a meal. We played a few tunes on our Melodeons and had a great time in front of the lovely log fire. Everyone was very friendly especially the owner / manager who was very very welcoming, considering we were in Morris make up... I'm not sure what they thought of us when we walked in... lol Dog friendly too...our Whippet enjoyed himself in front of the fire... We will definitely return.

Great place for us a group of 12 for xmas lunch

Just had our xmas get together hosted tonight by the Packhorse, we were really well looked after, service was really good, really attentive, food was good, hot and all out together and In a timely fashion, this is not easy when catering for a party of 15. So thank you once again, and looking forward to returning soon.

I had the vegetarian ravioli as a starter and then the Sri Lankan jackfruit curry for a main and it was delicious. We had a pro Christmas party here and the staff were great and so kind

Had the pleasure of popping in for a drink on Thursday. The pub has a lovely atmosphere 👌 and very well catered for your four legged companion 🐶our little girl loved her dinner 🍽 will be back again hopefully for the dog walk 👍🏻

Easily one of my favourite restaurants in the UK. The combination of low ceiling, exposed beams showing the age of the building, and warm lighting, make the atmosphere very welcoming and cozy. Not to mention the fireplace and that it is dog friendly. They are very good for Gluten free people, as all of the dishes have their respective allergens listed. You can also see the calorie count. I've been there a couple of times and all the food ordered every time is delicious. I would strongly recommend going for a dessert as well with the chocolate foundaint!

The Packhorse hosted a fantastic dog walk, with bacon sandwiches, tea and coffee served beforehand. All complimentary. Really great event. We will be back for lunch very soon.

Nice food but glasses for our drinks were a bit grubby. Staff were all young and even though they were nice, you could tell it was just a job to them. Atmosphere nice and traditional however

Food was great atmosphere was lovely, but the service took way too long 30mins from when we ordered drinks to getting them asked multiple times for water only getting it near the end of our meal, staff were nice but weren’t very apologetic for the mass delay, defo need more servers

An amazing place with a warm cosy atmosphere despite its expansive interior. Lots of old timbers and charm. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Lots of gluten free options and the food is delicious and beautifully presented with good sized portions. Will definitely go there again.

Great Sunday roast with friends today. Lovely bar setting, roaring wood fire, lovely beer and very tasty food. Excellent options as well to cater for many tastes and requirements. We asked for more gravy and Yorkshire puddings as well and they were provided promptly at no cost. Recommended for Sunday roast if you find yourself nearby!

We had a lovely lunchtime meal here with friends. There is plenty of parking. The food and service was excellent, the staff very friendly and there was a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. I'd rate the Packhorse as one of the better pubs in the area.
