Best guiness in cardiff lovely spot just of the beaten tourist trap

Lovely traditional style pub playing a great play list. We visited during a downpour afternoon midweek, so it was quiet but great vibe. Has screens up subtly places for those interested in the sports but doesn't have a sports bar vibe. Really liked it and great prices too.

Better than it’s been in ages. Great beer and welcome from Landlady Tracey. Proper pub. Look forward to seeing more improvements.

Brilliant pub by mermaid quay. Popped in for what was meant to be an hour after a Chinese but ended up staying til the end. The people were friendly and felt like a regular and the staff were great as it's the first time I've ever been here. It's a good proper pub in the heart of the bay if you want to get away from the snobbery and expensive prices of the other bars. Well recommended 👍

One of the last proper traditional boozers left in Cardiff! Recently been taken over by a lovely landlord who has given it new life! So welcoming, clean, tidy with a lively atmosphere! Drinks are a great price too! Will defo be going more often!

Staff are lovely, very reasonable drink prices. New owner is fabulous!! A*** would deffo go again

A (mostly) ungentrified pub with a good choice of beverage and lots of big screens, which made it a comfortable place to watch sport and enjoy our evening. The ladies behind the bar do a great job. Recommended.

Our initial stop was to get of the rain. To our surprise the heating was on and we were able to dry out. A good range of beer, larger and cider was available together with friendly welcoming staff encouraging us to stay for the afternoon. We didn't have food.

Stopped for a drink and what a lovely olddy worldy pub. Great service and plenty of TV screens to watch sport.

We walked in and there was a 'Wake'. We hesitated ready to leave as we didnt feel right intruding but, we were made to feel so welcome and to stay, even offered food. You just dont get many places like that so thankyou to all who were celebrating someones departure from life who made us so very welcome at The Packet. Bless you all x

Dropped in before Gig in Portland House (Vault) good atmosphere friendly staff & customers. Not posh just normal pub with a mix of characters & a DJ playing old school classic singalong. Inexpensive proper boozer.

Great old pub, not many around like this anymore.

A nice atmosphere in the only proper old pub I could find in the area. I didn't like the first beer I ordered, but the landlord kindly swapped it for another one.

What a lovely pub. Interior doesn't look likes it's been changed in decades, loads of old wood and etched glass. Really friendly staff, really friendly locals, a great place for a pint and a chat.

Title says it all. Didn't get the name of the guy behind the bar but he was a genuinely lovely bloke. Pub was clean and a nice outdoor space. Can't fault it at all.

The welcoming at the Packet was great, I sing in a choir and after our spot in The coal exchange, went to The Packet and what a great traditional pub definitely go back 😀

Went with friends for a drink on Friday evening.One of my friends is in a wheelchair asked at the bar if there was a side entrance a girl who was working called Amy with out hesitation opened the door and was very friendly chatting with us and explaining were everything was in the public house. Great service and a friendly atmosphere would definitely recommend and return.

Great pub on the edge of mermaid quay. Lovely original finishes remain throughout, nice little beer garden and plenty of TVs to watch a range of sports. Lovely atmosphere and friendly bar staff with great selection of drinks available. Would definitely stop here again

Busy loud pub serving a variety of drinks at decent prices. I do like a Rosé blush in the summer. Only one Rosé available and it was ok. £6.20 for a large glass was most acceptable. There is an outside space but it needs a bit more love and attention. Some sofas and cushions instead of austere hard plastic chairs. This would make it a more welcoming space. Inside there is plenty of seating but again some more snugs would be nice. I was promptly served by a very polite member of staff. If passing and I fancied a quick refreshment I’d pop back in for a swift one. Perhaps would not go to sit and chat. Bit noisy and lacking comfy spaces to chill and contemplate but it is a traditional pub serving decent drinks at a fair price.

Great pub! We were visiting Cardiff for a show at the Millennium Center, and over our two day trip popped in a couple of times. Great atmosphere, a lovely pint of Barry Island IPA, and a terrific landlord, friendly and welcoming! If we are in the area in the future we will be back! Thank you!

Excellent old skool traditional pub. The landlord knows how to make a friendly atmosphere in an area full of "bars" not pubs.

Wunderbarer Pub so wie wir das mögen. Eher einheimische Gäste, nicht überfüllt, gutes Bier und Sportfernsehen für die die es mögen auf ordentliches Geräten ohne Ton wie es sich gehört. Aber so weit wir mit bekommen haben kein Essen.

Horrible. Don't visit if you're not a regular. Advertised that they'll be showing two games at the pub and showed only one because "that's what they want". When I asked the landlady she just shrugged. Not even an apology.

Absolute classic pub which has been running for many many years, service was excellent with the staff friendly, funny and very efficient. I will be visiting again very soon, I can't rate the food as we didn't have any

Visited on and off for years but going more regular recently as find the place has gone so much more inviting with the refurb, Aisha especially is great, always helpful and chatty. Place is warm and comfortable like you're sat in your own house and the 80s music on the TVs is a MASSIVE plus in my eyes. Drinks are reasonably priced and the place is kept clean. Live sports are shown and they have live music on the weekends. Great historic pictures in the building too including the map on the clock.

Fairly friendly, offered the bar maid a drink when buying my friend a Guinness and myself a double vodka & coke & was charged £19.20! if you like paying over the odds in today's days of mega inflation then head to the Packet

Nice little bar . The young lady behind the bar made us very welcome, polite and always smiling. The pub has a history of why it is called The Packet which shows from its interior design. Well worth a visit when you are in Cardiff Bay area.

Came here after a dismal experience in the dock pub. First ever visit and I have to say that it was really good. Clearly occupied by locals but still we felt really welcome there. We were served promptly at the bar. No issues in getting seats. My kind of music there too! Plenty of TV screens and seats. We went here for pre drinks before going to the glee club but I wish I could've stayed in the pub all night! It seemed that there were lots of regulars there and lots of characters. Really lovely atmosphere there. Won't hesitate in returning to see what else they have to offer. 🙂

from manchester, came down to visit friend living in area and down here 5 nights. so far spending a second evening here as the staff are so friendly and great atmosphere watching world cup. been around cardiff, other places in day and was frozen. stepped in here, not only warm but warm greeting. highly recommended.

Nice, traditional pub in a good location. We walked there from the city centre to meet up with family. We were there a quieter time of day. Football was on but not too loud. I like places where you can chat without too much background noise and this fitted the bill. I don't know what it's like when it's busier. Hoping to go again.

A warm atmosphere with such welcoming and friendly staff. The entertainment is always spot on and friendships are easily made. It doesn't matter who you are or where you came from - this pub is one of the most welcoming I have ever stepped foot in!

We got here very late after the Speedway in Cardiff after looking for nice pub and having unfortunatley visited another, that was pretty awful, first. The landlord was about to close but went out of his way to get us drinks. He than sat with us for aobut half an hour discuassing rugby and made us feel exrremely wlcome. Briliant place. I will defintely be back next time I'm in Cardiff. Thanks.
