The Pack Horse in County Durham

We went for a birthday meal on Friday 10th January about 6,20 , there was 6 adults , 3 young hungry kids . Ordered food about 645 , We didn't receive our food until an hour later after making inquires where it was, the steaks were not what we had ordered , the kids meal were in complete and cold . One adults meal steak was raw , so we sent it back and she sat without food while everyone ate there food .Her meal didn't appear until the rest of us had finished our food . They were clearly under staffed and a little bit inexperienced but it was not there fault . Even though we received discount on the bill it was not what we would of liked . The person who was still waiting for her meal didn't received there meal until everyone had finished there food was the person whose birthday Meal was booked for. Poor service Poor food Poor experience

I’d like to say something about the food, but we’ve been here for an hour and a half and are still waiting for our food. We had to ask if it was coming soon and were told they hadn’t started cooking it. Send help! Send wine! In fact, do send wine because nobody has asked me for we’d like to order another round. You might think all of the above is because they’re busy, but most of the tables are empty.

Christmas lunch was fantastic, the staff were great, made a lovely atmosphere for Christmas day, thank you!

Just had an amazing Gammon and Chips from the Pack Horse served with an egg on a hot skillet. Fast and efficient service as usual and really nice friendly staff.

We had Sunday lunch it was cold . The turkey was compressed meat . Yorkshire puddings rock hard . Meal came and we set for 5 mins waiting for cutlery. Won’t be going back .

Its the first time we,ve been in that area as we live away from there ,the pack horse is lovely and clean and comfortable ,staff really homely and friendly and we only had cheesey chips with salad but it was delicious 😋we,ll certainly call there again if we,re in that area or for a run out 👍🏻🙂

Came for a family lunch, son ordered the mixed grill, it looked lovely,the meals where very nice, staff where attentative, allthough young girl was quite annoying, she must have passed our table 25 times, my son need the toilet, and she came to take his meal away, i told her we are not finishes she came to clear the table 5 to 6 more times, we felt we where being rushed to eat our food even though the place was almost empty. so on that score we will stick with the jolly drovers.and won't return to the pack horse.

Great pub. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Very good food and beers. Staff are super friendly and the premises are clean and pleasant. Good carpark and outdoor areas. Will definitely return and recommend.

We have been for dinner here a few times. Everything 💯%. Definitely we will be coming back. Even our dog enjoys the place. Always booked a table though because it's easier with the 4 of us and Neo.

We popped in for food and drinks and had a lovely hour or so, staff were very friendly and efficient and the food and wine were delicious, hubby had the gammon and I had lasagne, I didn't have desert hubby had the sticky toffee pudding cheesecake which he said was excellent. All in all a great experience and we'll definitely be back!

We booked a table of 6 for a family meal. We have been here quite a few times and always found the food to be really good, plenty of choice and very good value. I had the sirloin steak with bbq sauce which was so nice. The main reason for me leaving this review is that we were served by two new staff members Grace & Luke. Grace was very polite, friendly and took our food and drink orders with no issue at all. Luke served us and he was brilliant. We asked for a few extra things and nothing was too much trouble and he made sure we were well looked after. Well done to Grace and Luke which made our experience 5 stars. Thank you!

Stunning pub, always a nice atmosphere, team are so lovely and friendly and has a really nice family atmosphere, food is fantastic value and always consistent great quality , fantastic range of drinks, love their cocktails and wines. Management are really great and friendly I've noticed a really great change in the pub the past few years so well done to everyone involved , will be back regularly. Xx

well been here before and its normally good but this time it was.nt busy but we waited a while for our food. and waited a bit longer for our desert. the service was good but the wait was not to good but we will proberly visit again in the future...

We popped in on our travels. What a gem we found. Service was great and the food was second to none. I had a Rib eye steak and the wife had a all day breakfast. I can't recommend this enough. 10/10

The staff were so nice but the roast dinner was terrible...the beef was wafer thin and had grill marks of burn across it, Dry as a bone. The roasties seemed from a frozen packet. However, S the staff tried to remedy this but we will not go back.

We have always enjoyed our visit to the packhorse however yesterday was our worse experience. The food was faultless no complaints there however we were sat at table 28. This table is situated right next to a working till station,cutlery was being clattered from a drawer, trays getting dumped, staff chatting akd using the till. This was all going on right next to where my husband was sat trying to enjoy his night. As I've said no food complaints but there definitely shouldn't be a table right next to and touching a staff station.

The staff here are very friendly and welcoming and the food is good and very well priced. It is always a pleasant experience having lunch at the Pack Horse.

Called today for lunch never again got the small mixed grill 4oz steak ,sausage gammon, chicken,egg well which one do a start with steak could hardly cut it with a steak knife never mind chew it, gammon looked and tasted like some kind of reclaimed meat shaped into a block , chicken was like a piece of rubber that had been boiled until it had no taste left don't think any of the meat was grilled more like boiled ,but on the bright side the chips and egg where ok.Never ever again.

Me and my mate come to enjoy a share platter and it’s for to say the waiters and the chefs we’re all doing it but no other customers seemed to understand and decided they wouldn’t be doing it.

Had lunch come tea today myself and husband both had different burgers both delicious, great service and reasonably priced.

Often visit here with my partner and children. The staff are great, very friendly. Quick service. Food is lovely and the kids meals are decent portions. Only ever had one disappointing experience recently, on a busy night, and the manager was very apologetic and accommodating. Can't fault the place, and will continue to visit regularly.

Very friendly staff. However the Sunday lunch was such a let down. The broccoli was very hard and not cooked long enough. The mash/smash was not great at all. And it looked like we were all given just over a table spoon of it! Nice meat nice Yorkshire pudding but they really need to sort it the potatoes and veg. And maybe for the price a little but more in the serving quantity wouldn't go a miss.

Been to this venue many times exceptional staff and service. Few issues today which were dealt with efficently and deffinately wont stop us visiting again.

Went to this venue and it was also on quiz night without realising. Was placed in the middle of the quiz tables which wasn't great as it felt awkward wanting to talk but recognising those around wanted it quiet to do the quiz. The service was super slow, sure the staff were friendly but just slow, which is weird given so many tables were just doing the quiz so it wasn't like they were ordering food or drinks on the regular. The food was okay, i elected for the mixed grill, the gammon was okay, the steak was good, the sausage was a bit under cooked (looked like it had been boiled) and was low quality, the chicken was quite slimet. After eating we eventually had the staff come up to clear the table and ask about deserts, we just asked for the bill. Fifteen minutes later there was still no bill, and the staff member was walking about, so I think they forgot. Eventually I called it quits and went to the bar and asked if I could pay there and they said I could.

A very friendly welcome from all staff. We were given adequate time to choose from a large menu. Good food, well cooked. My only criticism would be that the hot food was not served on hot plates. However, I do appreciate the shear volume of food being served would make it very difficult to keep all the plates hot. Overall service and good food. We would definitely recommend The Pack Horse.

We visit on a regular basis, it is typical of this type of pub/restaurant, good value food served quickly, the actual building could do with a facelift as it is looking a little tired, very poplar and can get busy, go between 2pm and 4pm for a quiet late lunch.

A few years ago we used to love The Pack Horse, then it went off the boil, but we are delighted that it is back to its former high points. We've been twice in the last couple of weeks and the food and drink, especially...

Went last teatime had steak not good, partner had burger she said was good. The worst was went to use loo manager was in there then he walked out not washing hands then went onto food and bar WILL NOT BE GOING BACK AGAIN

We visited the packhorse on Saturday to celebrate my mother in laws 80th birthday, there was 30 of us, the service and organisation was 5 stars. I can't remember the waitresses name, but she was outstanding, she couldn't have been more helpful. We regularly eat here and cannot fault the service.
