Fantastic atmosphere and no-one can complain about thr prices. This place is a great stop off or a good starting point for a night out in Durham. Staff are super friendly and there's plenty of space to grab a seat. The food is nice, basic food with a great price so you never feel out of pocket. Would highly recommend.

Can't beat Whetherspoons for breakfast!

I went for a few drinks on Saturday around 10 pm. The atmosphere was buzzing very busy, and music was great. The service was great. The bar was fairly busy but got served within 5 minutes. I will definitely go back to try food on my next visit. 😋

My wife was verbally abused after she confronted a misogynistic person who was leeching after young women. This can not be tolerated in this day and age, however the bouncer was keen to act on this situation....

Like most other Wetherspoons you get reasonably priced beer and food quickly and easily through their app. This one was no different and had loads of seats.

A lovely restaurant with great outside views. We chose 3 small bites plates of halloumi fries, cheesy chips and pizza to share (Nachos weren't available that day), and we indulged in a bottle of wine which was reasonably priced at under £11. A great place with great service.

It was very busy and loud, didn't stay for food or a drink.

We needed to eat before meeting up for drinks with friends. We had ham, egg and chips. The presentation was good, the food was nice although I didn't expect,'plastic' ham!!!

Only got meals for the kids but the food was awful. Miniscule portions and all cold. Waiter also spilled my daughter's drink over the table and didn't even apologise.

Poor experience,went with family from the midlands who I persuaded to go to Bishop mill. Food not available about 2/3 of menu.What was available came cold and poor quality.Ordered drinks ,again some not available.Ok will try Guinness to be told half pulled it's run out.Worst experience I have had at a spoons .

When Wetherspoons mess up (and mess up they do), a little apology would go a long way to appeasing customers, but it seems they can't bring themselves to say sorry for messing up. This applies even to senior management in the establishment. I thought we British were pretty good at saying sorry, but this doesn't apply in Wetherspoons, all you get is a grunt of some kind, and if you're super lucky, something positive happens, but more often than not, you just have to put up and shut up, and get on with it. I wonder if things will improve as Tim hands over the reigns to junior 😏, I very much doubt it, I anticipate the slope becoming more slippy.

Ham egg and chips was a bit disappointing.

Food was decent but service was mediocre and some staff were rude. I believe the girls name was Amber, she was blonde, who had an attitude when I asked where the condiments were and asked for a new set of cutlery after mine had fallen on the floor. Wouldn’t come back.

Was here yesterday for my birthday and the service from the staff and bar manager was absolutely disgusting ….. they were rude disrespectful and very childish. Really spoilt a great atmosphere I would not recommend the service but is a beautiful location and nice bar.

Was asked to leave after my partner had raised a formal complaint about a member of staff. The member of staff is the daughter of a wetherspoons shareholder so naturally her side was taken. This is dispicable if a member of staff behaves in a manner not befetting a company they should be dismissed not the patron. This pub is a disgrace turning away business with a half arsed explanation given. Get a grip of yourselves. UPDATE now been permanently barred due to this review... oh well what a shame lol.

The last three visits have been disappointing, and I've not rushed to leave a review in the hope that the let downs were just a blip. However, three consecutive negative experiences warrants a review in the interests of other diners. Briefly: Food orders forgotten about, and when we chased them up the food swiftly arrived, stone cold - clearly having been sat on a bench for half an hour. Dirty cutlery with food stuck between the fork tines! Absolutely unforgivable. Tables left piled with dirty plates and cups, while diners search around for a clean spot at which to sit. At 11am on a weekday, rowdy, foul-mouthed drinkers in the dining area making families, older couples and young students extremely uncomfortable. The staff clearing tables looked nervous and made no attempt to ask the party to tone down their language. Finally, a small thing but one which spoils a visit. The hot drinks machines are often poorly stocked now, with one regularly out of order entirely. It's irritating to tell the bartender you're going to have a hot chocolate/latte/decaff only to find the machine has no chocolate/milk/decaff. At least update the barstaff when things become unavailable... We've loved this place in the past and have visited frequently over the years. Now however, we hesitate, as it's no longer a guarantee of a pleasant and hassle free occasion.

Visited here a few nights ago, where we ordered burgers. I ordered the buttermilk chicken burger, which had no taste whatsoever. Another relative ordered a burger with chips, where you could quite easily say there were about eight chips on their plate. As for the lettuce, it was two tiny scraps, so much so, that this relative asked, who looked like the manager, for some more lettuce, as there was hardly anything there. The staff member said that that was the normal portion size, but a rabbit could eat more ! This staff member came back a minute later with some more lettuce, and simply said "There". Very disappointing, we will definitely not be returning.

Fantastic location we visited this establishment twice while we were in Durham on a day trip once for coffee and second time for a meal and a few beers. Loved it.

Great pub in the heart of the city. We decided to give it a go despite the suspicious bunch of bad recent reviews all lumped together on here. Beer was fine, service was good and the meals did the job. There were six in our group, attending for a business meeting the next day, and we were pleased with our visit.

Excellent pub...but they need to sort the queuing set up out...3 queues and the rest of the bar empty. It's a pub...you've gotta stand at the bar to be noticed and served.

A great place for a typical Spoons breakfast. It is busy /lively though on evenings with students and those seeking the cheap drinks that Wetherspoons are noted for, otherwise great for their renowned breakfasts.Also like a lot of Wetherspoons spoiled by people just taking up tables to drink coffee & endless refills and who should be seated in a different area away from diners.

Possibly the nicest spoons we've ever been in. It's almost as though the "great unwashed" haven't discovered it yet?

Very pleasant atmosphere in this pub, staff were helpful food was very good value, I had a traditional breakfast. The only problem was the food wasn't very hot.

We called in to Bishops Mill for a quick drink following a walk. My friend used the facilities and when she returned I had only just been served. There was someone else being served and another bartender who was stocking the fridges which seemed to be more of a priority that serving me. The atmosphere was pleasant with a lot of quiet conversation taking place.

Ordered a drink[on app] was waiting over 20 minutes and would have continued to wait..had I not gone up to the bar.. Also potatoe chips were cold....what's the point in having an app..if you have to go to the bar?

The server kept slamming the food down on the table and one of our drinks ordered through the app just didn't arrive.

Fabulous breakfast. Photos not needed as it was an amazing Full English cooked breakfast!

I called there for breakfast and went back for lunch. One member of staff seemed abrupt but she probably didn't realise I was blind. But other than that the staff are very helpful.

Nice modern spoons but too noisey near door and smoking blowing in. Also special on non vegan limes at present.

Food was awful undercooked pizza and garlic bread barely warm, took a while for it to arrive as well. Drinks are ok reasonable priced for a city centre spoons, but won't be going back anytime soon

A handy Wetherspoon venue located just across the street from the passport office which was convenient for coffee as we waited for our appointment slot. The venue seems popular and serves standard ‘Spoons fare.

It's a Wetherspoons. The service was quick, the food was hot and the drinks were really cheap. There's a lift for those with limited mobility. Lots of steps otherwise.

Good value for money. Why is breakfast not served after 12pm?. Would be nice if they served vegetarian bacon butties.

It was a relaxed atmosphere for breakfast. The food is always value for money. I wish o could give 4.5 because on this one occasion the food was a little cold and took a little longer than usual.

One of four Wetherspoons visited met the Wetherspoon format fine, however very clinical atmosphere and surroundings not enamoured Been for a second visit today and have to say it's the filthiest Wetherspoon with carpets and furnishings covered in grime and dirt the area manager not on the ball with this one

We popped in here for lunch on a Saturday it was heaving. To be expected really as the football was on and it's a reasonably cheap place to eat out. They was 3 adults and a baby in a pushchair. It was difficult to manoeuvre the pushchair around all the packed tables but we managed just. The service was okay but not many smiles on the staff who were obviously stressed out. The food arrived and it was a bit of a disappointment to say the least. My daughter had scampi which was over cooked, very crispy and dark coloured. My son in law had the mixed grill and the steak again was overcooked and tough. I had the 10oz gammon as I thought it would be a nice thick slice of gammon it wasn't it was two thin slices and the eggs were over done also. Needless to say I won't be returning anytime soon.

Called in for brunch after our stay over in Durham. Cheap and cheerful. Quite busy but very pleasant.

Requested a seat to be reserved as I am an amputee and cannot stand on my prosthetic for too long. Was given an uncomfortable chair in a draughty location near some fire doors, although it was near the disabled toilet. When another member of my party enquired where the reserved table was the reply was that they were busy and hadn't had time to sort it, although a member of staff did get us a table fairly quickly afterwards. Not the best experience on my day out.

Very busy, but it's a weatherspoons and they are all about the same the only bad point I had was an order of cheesy chips which they must be rationing the cheese with.

Food not as good as others, a little below par. Having visited many spoons, food here isn't as good. Night time there's a DJ, tables are moved for dance floor. Music is a variety, but not necessarily to the correct audience e.g. old songs and under 25's around

Went there for a dance around 10pm on A sat. It was fun and plenty of people enjoying themselves!

This was a fantastic pub to go for a drink, with a very well sized area both inside and outside! The decorations relate properly to Durham's rich history, counter is well-presented and staff were chill. Me and my friend shared a cocktail pitcher, sitting at comfortable seating and the architecture goes quite deep too!

Great wetherspoons with plenty of outside seating and lovely location just outside market place. One of best Wetherspoons I have visited. Easy to find and good location near Premier Inn and above multi storey car park.

Some Wetherspoon pubs are better than others. Distinctly average on a Saturday afternoon. Typical of any pub on the weekend. Loud, busy, and slow service. Still quicker than Katie O'brien's!

Ordered the chicken curry came hot but when cutting into chicken the middle part appeared to have frozen bits,they replaced straight away,thinking about it later I should have left it and walked away as I had eaten some of it and chicken is the worst if not reheated properly.luckly I did not get food poisoning the next day.

Had fish and chips fried that much it was curled up dry don't get them need a new chef

Bloody lovely. Best Wetherspoons I've ever been in, very large so lots of different options for seating, which I like and my dad does too. Problem is sister won't come cos she reckons she's posh.

Well it was a Tuesday lunchtime when four of us ladies arrived. We expected to maybe find a one of the comfy corners taken which indeed they were but no problem we got a table for 4. That was the easy bit. The service to say the least was slow we decided to have a drink and a chat before food as we hadn't seen each other for a while cut a long story short we did get food 3 of us opting for the daily special which was about to be taken off but after my friend expressed we had been waiting 20 mins to be served at the bar we got our food as ordered and it was lovely. Plus side food and drink when you eventually get served a bargain. Downside the wait in a bar midweek not acceptible. It's a students paradise buy a coffee get the rest free as is wifi, heating,etc I don't blame them but they do clog the place up.

A group of ladies were having a good time no swearing or abusive language just enjoying themselves and they were asked to leave, when a lady on the table next to them stood up for them she was told to shut up or she would be next, I suggest you close the place or replace the staff 👎

Ordered food for 6 people waited 40 minutes for 1 meal to come out freezing cold sent back waited another 10 minutes to have the rest of the order sent out cold while first meal was reheated. Attitude was bad and excuses were worse!!!
