quite possibly the worst experience. The bouncers are rude and agressive. No care for the safety of the guests. Abusive to the point of threats of violence over trying to charge a phone to get home safe. They do not deserve custom which is a shame for the bar staff. However guests spend too much money to be treated like animals and there are other pubs in area to use.

Gold star to JOSH ! ..... who brought my curry to the table .... smart, pleasant and positive manner as he carefully fits the plate in the small space I'd left at the end of the table .... and I manage to knock the fork to the floor. Josh pounces on the fork, says "I'll get you another" and reminds me I can get mango chutney (which is always a plus for me). The table was CLEAN when I arrived (not always the case at Wetherspoons). The only slight down this visit was that the food was only just above luke warm and I didn't really have time to ask for re-heat.

Best 'Spoons I've visited! Not an old bank with toilets so far away you need to take a snack for the journey - a modern location near the centre of Durham. Food and drink were exactly as you expect for the price. How they can serve a decent coffee for £1.56 with free refills is beyond me. Some arty - farty artisan coffee shops selling nasty brown dirge will charge you £3.50+. Not a gastro-pub but for what you pay, its great.

Really terrible customer service and very threatening security staff in this bar. I was on a night out with the family and the security staff dedicated to do a random drug search on me. After going along with the search I was told I was being to aggressive and violently dragged out of the bar by my arms and being thrown on the floor outside. If you want a quiet night do not go here. There is no need for this excessive violent behaviour. The bar needs to take a look at themselves and who they hiring as this is unacceptable. Unfortunately I will never be going back

After going along with the search I was told that I was too aggressive and violently dragged out of the bar and thrown on the floor outside. There is no need for this kind of behaviour and the bar needs to think about who they have in the bar as security. You won't find your typical Wetherspoon neanderthal in this particular establishment. This is the place where everybody knows your name, where the chicken is sticky, not the tables and floors. The staff are firm but fair, they'll bring your food and drinks to the table, but you must collect your own cutlery and condiments, a fair trade off in my opinion. The toilets are fresher than a sunny spring meadow, with an abundance of washing facilities and hand dryers. Highly recommended.

Not a great experience in terms of food, it's not clean as well, the floor is genuinely sticky and the toilets were d Nicely decorated but a tad stinky, There is little point talking about the food,it's your topical " I only came for a beer so what else you've got" type menu, we can to eat breakfast so there were many breakfast options but nothing healthy really, all greasy spoon and not much else, NO Accommodation TO GLUTEN INTOLERANCE and also only Out milk ( that had Gluten) what is the deal with that?? I actually would like to give it a lower grade but generally speaking it's no more than a 3 star with a stretch And by the way, the staff at the bar taking orders, let's put it this way, I'm not sure why they work in customer service.

We stayed in Durham a few days and visited the pub a few times. The beer was fine as it usually is in Wetherspoon's. When Wetherspoons mess up (and mess up they do), a little apology would go a long way to appeasing customers, but it seems they can't bring themselves to say sorry for messing up. This applies even to senior management in the establishment. I thought we British were pretty good at saying sorry, but this doesn't apply in Wetherspoons, all you get is a grunt of some kind, and if you're super lucky, something positive happens, but more often than not, you just have to put up and shut up, and get on with it. I wonder if things will improve as Tim hands over the reigns to junior 😏, I very much doubt it, I anticipate the slope becoming more slippy.

Was asked to leave after my partner had raised a formal complaint about a member of staff. The member of staff is the daughter of a wetherspoons shareholder so naturally her side was taken. This is dispicable if a member of staff behaves in a manner not befetting a company they should be dismissed not the patron. This pub is a disgrace turning away business with a half arsed explanation given. Get a grip of yourselves. UPDATE now been permanently barred due to this review... oh well what a shame lol.

The last three visits have been disappointing, and I've not rushed to leave a review in the hope that the let downs were just a blip. However, three consecutive negative experiences warrants a review in the interests of other diners. Briefly: Food orders forgotten about, and when we chased them up the food swiftly arrived, stone cold - clearly having been sat on a bench for half an hour. Dirty cutlery with food stuck between the fork tines! Absolutely unforgivable. Tables left piled with dirty plates and cups, while diners search around for a clean spot at which to sit. At 11am on a weekday, rowdy, foul-mouthed drinkers in the dining area making families, older couples and young students extremely uncomfortable. The staff clearing tables looked nervous and made no attempt to ask the party to tone down their language. Finally, a small thing but one which spoils a visit. The hot drinks machines are often poorly stocked now, with one regularly out of order entirely. It's irritating to tell the bartender you're going to have a hot chocolate/latte/decaff only to find the machine has no chocolate/milk/decaff. At least update the barstaff when things become unavailable... We've loved this place in the past and have visited frequently over the years. Now however, we hesitate, as it's no longer a guarantee of a pleasant and hassle free occasion.

Visited here a few nights ago, where we ordered burgers. I ordered the buttermilk chicken burger, which had no taste whatsoever. Another relative ordered a burger with chips, where you could quite easily say there were about eight chips on their plate. As for the lettuce, it was two tiny scraps, so much so, that this relative asked, who looked like the manager, for some more lettuce, as there was hardly anything there. The staff member said that that was the normal portion size, but a rabbit could eat more ! This staff member came back a minute later with some more lettuce, and simply said "There". Very disappointing, we will definitely not be returning.

Perhaps hadcwe just had a scone and coffee it would have been lovely but waiting so long for hot food was very poor service Very disappointed overall.

We stayed for a night as we were attending a wedding in the local area. The hotel was clean, breakfast was great the next day and it wasn’t badly priced at the bar either. The standard double room though was tiny and was nothing like the picture shown, we barely had a walkway round the bed. I would advise paying extra and upgrading your room.
