A old pub spoilt via it being more of a sports disco bar. Can get busy.

The atmosphere was good it was very busy when we visited so the bar service was understandably a bit slower but that was to be expected, we all had a good time and would definitely return. The DJ boes a good job but please get him a new sound system it is appalling.

Lovely local pub with friendly staff, affordable pints, tv screens for football and comfy seats. Not much more you could ask for. I love pubs like this and will be coming back next time I am in Durham!

Friendly staff who went above and beyond. Food is excellent quality, good portions. Excellent value for money. We always come here when visiting Durham

¡Necesita una buena limpieza! Lugar sucio - asientos, alfombras, paredes. En cuanto al baño de mujeres era horrible. La suciedad en la parte superior del radiador, paneles que se desprenden de la pared, asientos de inodoro dudosos y cerraduras. No lo recomiendo, tenían un menú de comidas que se veía bien, pero con la limpieza general del lugar no quería probarlo.

Was in for no longer than 10 minutes… got profiled by the bar staff and door staff on the way in because I have designer clothing on… Went to the toilet had a lad in there trying to start fights so walked him out the toilet… went to the bar to find the the staff tried charging my friend twice for his drinks and he wasn’t happy… sent him back to the table as I said I’d sort it out for him… to then be removed by the door staff… Never caused any carry on! Yet had 2 sips of my pint before being removed then I asked if I could get my money back for the pint to be told no! (Basically robbed us) They then removed our group of 5 couples for no valid reason other than the bar staff not liking the way someone spoke to her about the mistake she made… Absolute joke of a pub and tbh missed out on a good wedge of money that was in my pocket 🤦🏻 I’ll never spend another penny in there again Weatherspoons was a miles better atmosphere 👌🏼

Estuvo en no más de 10 minutos... me perfiló el personal del bar y el personal de la puerta en el camino porque tengo ropa de diseño puesta... Fui al baño tenía a un muchacho allí tratando de comenzar peleas, así que lo acompañé fuera del baño... fui al bar para encontrar el personal trató de cobrarle a mi amigo dos veces por sus bebidas y él no estaba contento... lo envié de vuelta a la mesa como dije que lo arreglaría por él... para luego ser retirado por el personal de la puerta... ¡Nunca causó ninguna carga! Sin embargo, tenía 2 sorbos de mi pinta antes de ser retirado, entonces le pregunté si podía recuperar mi dinero para la pinta para que le dijeran que no! (Básicamente nos robó) Luego eliminaron a nuestro grupo de 5 parejas sin ninguna razón válida, aparte de que al personal del bar no le gustó la forma en que alguien le habló sobre el error que cometió... Broma absoluta de un pub y tbh se perdió una buena cuña de dinero que estaba en mi bolsillo 🤦🏻 Nunca volveré a gastar otro centavo allí dentro de nuevo Weatherspoons era una atmósfera kilómetros mejor 👌🏼

Food delicious and fresh and tasty. Really cheaply priced considering location.

We chose 2 meals for £13 corned beef pie and chips was ok but the mince and dumplings were not so good the dumpling was as big as a knob of butter and have never seen as many peas on one plate won't be returning

Had fish and chips but it was not fresh it was frozen so that spoilt it

I didn't eat here. The service was good, the staff friendly and the beer was reasonably priced. Nice pub.

I was a bit too drunk to remember all that much, but had a great time and recorded about 20,000 steps with all the dancing 👍

An absolute dump, food was half alive when I got it and they got my partners order wrong, didn't offer any refund or anything to make up for it, might be alright for a quick pint but that's it.

Great place for a night out but not for the faint hearted. need to be looking over your shoulder, watching your back. But we never stop going in when visiting Durham.

Estábamos buscando un lugar para comer y The Fighting Cocks salió triunfante. Era domingo a eso de la 1 pm. Teníamos salchicha, puré y guisantes y pechuga de pollo con verduras - con la mitad de Guinness y un vino tinto. El precio £ 21 era muy razonable y la comida se sirvió en poco tiempo y era muy bueno. Era como algo que nuestras madres podrían haber servido y lo disfrutamos. Se sirvió con una sonrisa amable y charla. Esto es justo por lo que un pub inglés tradicional es famoso y quedan tan pocos. Si estás en Durham y quieres experimentar un pub inglés - ir allí. Tal vez un viernes o sábado por la noche podría ponerse un poco peludo!

Didn't eat in here. We were just in for a few drinks. Really good atmosphere, a lot of locals in having a bit of banter with the Staff was lovely to see. Good chance to watch some rugby on the TV screens. Dance floor with a disco later on I think (we left as we had a table booked for a meal). Really good pub. Highly recommend.

Service was OK. It seemed like it hadn't been cleaned from the previous night. There was a can perched atop a picture, shot glass under a chair and broken glass on the floor where we sat. Also no seats on the toilets. Probably won't return.

Smashed glass shards on the floor near the bar area. The music was way too loud and quality is not something that comes to mind if one was asked to give it a rating. The treble was turned all the way up :( At 9pm on Saturday the place was full and everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves :) The prices are probably the cheapest in town, so I guess you get what you pay for.

lovely friendly staff but the fish and chips where inedible. The fish looked and tasted like it had been fried a couple of times. I was ill when i got home.

Do a good Sunday lunch. Veggie lasagne was on the menu for us vegetarians. Nice and hot.

A great little pub and drinks are very reasonably priced compared to London prices. A few cocktails on the taps and draft beers.

Dissapointed not sure how places can be so picky. Called in here today for a drink and a bite to eat. They cant even be bothered to cook the baguettes which come out as white as the day they were pre packed. Bar staff were awful especially 5he older women with dark hair who thought it was appropriate to throw daggers at me. Not sure why as I hadnt complained at this point. Wont be going back sooo rude

A little bit of nostalgia! The only things that have changed in the 15 years since I was last here are it was a bit quieter and the windows weren't broken! Same music, same party venue atmosphere!

A nice big pub. Good price and great service.

From what I can remember, mint music, Strong drinks and sticky floors love it!

Cheap during the week but far to dear on weekends

We called here for the disco after being in Durham for a meal, waited ages to be served at bar then we all sat round 2 tables. I got up to have a dance with my daughter before having a drink and when I returned my drink was gone even though it was on a table surrounded by my family and friends. I asked the bouncer who just laughed in my face then mocked me to the other bouncer, I then went to the bar and asked a boy called cillian, he was SO RUDE! He told me I should not put my drink down on the tables (they’re obviously just for show) and that the glass collectors will of taken it, I asked why they didn’t just ask someone who was sitting at the table if it was anybody’s as it was a full untouched drink, he just said not my problem it’s tough isn’t it! Then walked away and ignored me when I tried to explain further. Never been so disgusted at the customer service, luckily a lovely girl behind the bar overheard the conversation and instantly looked where the glasses/drinks had been put and retrieved my drink. Thank you Becca, it’s a shame the rest of the staff don’t take note of your very polite, lovely and helpful manner, how easily you helped me without even being asked when there’s staff that refuse to help when asked says in all in my opinion. Other than that the music was good and we enjoyed ourselves although none of us dared put our drinks down on table after that.

Pretty bad place, very rude staff with out any common sense whatsoever, dirtiest toilets I have ever seen, if you leave a full drink on a table its gone when you go to get it

Brilliant staff. I only get in there every couple of months for an afternoon but the lady behind the bar is always friendly.

Pub is a regular visit for us but bad experience today table was not level pint of beer literally ran off table on to wife's dress , would still not put people off going here its a nice bar but watch out for the dodgy table .

Fab music if you love a dance. A bit of a queue at the bar but nothing major for a Saturday night. Worth it for the party atmosphere 😄

Very lively, standard array of drinks, nothing unusual, I. E., not a craft beer emporium. However, I enjoyed the time I was there, lots of music, not overly loud though.

I've been in here a few times now and today had the chicken curry and chips and apple pie and custard and it was delicious! Plus a pint of Inches cider. It was all spot on! The staff are always friendly and helpful, and there's decent sing a long background music plus plenty of TV screens if you're into sports. Will be back!

Called on Sat 17/2, quite busy, vibrant atmosphere, Newcastle game being aired, great service & reasonable prices, moving tables ready for the busy spell, we left at 6 & it was really starting to fill up!

We’ve visited Durham a few times over the last year and and have called in here on the last three occasions. They have a good menu with some great special offers. We love the hot beef and gravy sandwich which comes with chips and a choice of drinks for only £6.75. The beef was plentiful, tasty and tender and came in a crusty bun. The home made chips were delicious too. Excellent value! The staff are friendly, service is good and location is good.

Honestly worst food I've ever had food was cold under cooked and just straight nasty! Been hauled up with a belly ache! Whoever operating the microwave in there needs putting down!

Ordered Lasagna was cold in the middle, BBQ chicken baggette was raw , salad was bland with no dressing, chicken parmo was rock hard in some places and uneatable, really enjoyed the home made chips tho . I think the chef or who ever is cooking/microwaving needs sacked and hire a professional

Fabulous place, im a lancastrian and was last here about 25 years ago when studying and hasn't changed at all really which is good, apart from the the standard lick of paint etc. The barmaid was lovely and friendly, nice local pub with very nice locals
