A huge thanks to Trisha and the team for providing me and my family with such a lovely Sunday lunch last week! I contacted Trisha a few days ahead about a vegan option and she pulled out all the stops and made me a vegan apricot nut roast with a tomato coulis and load of veg, which was DIVINE! My family (all meat-eaters) said it was the best Sunday lunch they had had in ages! And the service was warm and friendly too! Really looking forward to sampling your food again! <3 <3

A comfortable yet pleasingly decorated restaurant with fab sunday lunches on offer, a good choice of starter, mains and puddings of course! All home made and service with a smile, good selection of veg too as I love my veg. Yorkshires were big and fluffy, could hardly move to get back in the car!

Popped in for a drink. Have been before and enjoyed it. What a disappointment, wine reasonably priced, but so it should have been for something which was so watered down I couldn't drink it. My husbands pint was also wispy washy. Sad but we won't go again.

We've just had a fab Sunday lunch at the newly refurbished Chelmsford pub. This lovely village pub is under new ownership and what a difference! A choice of starters, chicken, beef or pork roast dinner or a fish dish for mains, and for the veggies out there a very imaginative apricot and goats cheese nut roast. We chose tomato and pepper soup (homemade, thick and tasty) and chicken goujons (freshly made - not from the freezer), juicy and so tasty with a garlic dip. Beef and pork were our choice for main courses, served with mash, a roast potato (two would have been nice, but roasties are my weakness!) carrots, turnip, cabbage, peas and a big Yorkshire pudding. Generous portions of meat with all the trimmings, well cooked and presented. Just had enough room for pudding which was homemade cherry and apple crumble pie with a good quality vanilla ice cream. Friendly service from smiling staff and didn't feel rushed through the courses. Price for three people, three courses including wine and a couple of pints of real ale....£60. Not bad for a decent Sunday dinner in a lovely country pub....we will be back. Highly recommended

Called in here for Sunday lunch and really was surprised. Had heard mixed reviews and due to the pub being for sale was unsure about how things would go., however I was pleased to be totally wrong to doubt the place. Food was delicious all home made. There was a choice of beef, pork, chicken and lamb, there was regular, half and child size portions. I had beef while my wife went for pork, this was served with mash, roasties, a big Yorkshire and lashings of veg. (pork had crackling too) For dessert we both went for home made rice pudding although there was loads of choice. Staff were great couldn't do more for us.

I would highly recommend this pub if you are visiting Barnard Castle. It has real character! The staff were really friendly and unpretentious. The food was excellent pub grub - home-made steak and ale pie was amazing!

It needs o good clean! Dirty venue- seating, carpet, walls. As for the ladies toilet it was horrid. The muck on top of the radiator, panelling coming off the wall, dodgy toilet seats and locks. I do not recommend, they had a meal menu which looked good but with the overall cleanliness of the place I didn’t want to try it.
