The Oyster Catcher, Aberdovey Golf Club in Gwynedd

A good test of golf, greens rolled true and the holes sculpted between the dunes made for some interesting decisions to be made off the tee or on approaches. We got a great welcome in the pro shop, very professional and informative. Good practice facilities for a pre round warm up. Friendly, helpful staff in the clubhouse too, with a good selection of food on offer. The home made cake was delicious.

Awesome club and course, never played so many long par 4s, some cracking par 3s too. Stayed in the dormy accommodation, highly recommended such a friendly club, excellent food and drink in the clubhouse. Its only a 10 minute walk into the village for a beer at night some decent pubs.

Visited with a golf competition. The course, clubhouse and probably shop are all outstanding.The course and greens are some of the best in the country. If this course wasn't so far away it would be much more popular but that is part of the attraction

Such a fantastic venue for our golf weekend. Golf course was in amazing condition. Accommodation was ideal and very clean & comfortable. Cracking service and support from all the staff at the golf club. Breakfast and lunch was top draw. Such a great weekend and highly recommended.

what a stunning course and location. We had amazing weather for the end of February and the course was playing really well considering the day before only 6 holes were open because of how bad the rain had been recently. The staff around the place were all amazing. This is definitely a course I'd play again.

Super course and such good service in bar and food

Just joined after moving to the area recently. I've been made to feel very welcome by the staff and the members I've met so far. The course is in excellent condition for the time of the year.

I/we were looking forward to a weekend away golfing at a top 100 rated golf course. To our disappointment we were massively unsatisfied. The greens looked good from afar but when putting on them they were slower than putting on the tee boxes. There was no half way hut/buggy to buy any drinks or food from which you would expect on a busy open weekend for the club. When I discussed our disappointment with the course manager his nature was aggressive and dismissive. His response was that ‘we carry out course maintenance so we are not cutting the greens for the open competitions’ this I felt was disappointing when they are inviting people to play at their course and charging premium prices. The club did not promote themselves as a top 100 golf course; basic expectations like pin positions from the previous day was not changed, the managers response to this was that there was no staff. We spent £400 as a group to play there and definitely will not be returning.

Unfortunately for us we got extremely wet. Do believe this would have been a better experience in dry weather

Challenging golf course in windy and wet conditions. Utterly brilliant though! Makes you think and have to shape your shots. Staff at Aberdovey are all welcoming and lovely. From the pro-shop to kitchen staff, everyone has been brilliant.

We had a great time here, brilliant course and the reception we had from the staff and the members was second to none, we stayed over in the dormy accommodation and that was absolutely perfect, we will definitely be back.

Having pre-booked my round, upon arrival I was quoted a green fee more than double that quoted when I made my booking. Disgusting. Apparently I had the wrong county card despite having clearly stated which county card I have, when booking

First time playing here. Good layout but on the day (early Sept) greens were really slow an a lot of areas around approaches short of grass. Thankfully we got reduced rate for late tee time. IMO

Absolutely fantastic course in superb condition. All golfers should visit Aberdovey GC. Our group was made to feel very welcome and we will be visiting again, I cannot recommend this Golf Course highly enough.

2 days and 2 rounds of just fantastic golf and service. The staff from pro shop through to greenkeepers are the friendliest we've ever come across simply couldn't do enough for you. Whilst the course was undergoing maintenance (which we were informed of at booking) it didn't detract from the experience and it wasn't just the golf. Who else can say they had dinner approximately 10yds from the 18th green from their own Dormer accommodation. Just magical! Will we return? In a heartbeat!!

Possibly one of the best golf courses I've played. Everyone was really friendly and the course condition was outstanding. It's a must play golf course in Wales.

I've played here several times over the last few years and it's always been a positive experience. The course is a very good test of golf, it's very well kept and is in keeping with the coastal surroundings. I played in an AMAM today which at £35 pp is a very reasonable when playing a course such as this one. The starters made us feel very welcome. All of the staff were polite and couldn't be more helpful. There is a train station about a 30 second walk from the entrance to the club which is extremely convenient too!

Stayed and played here many times, five stars and more, stunning course, brilliant dormy system straight onto course, food is great and staff are first class, my favourite place . . . Anywhere 🏌️‍♂️⛳👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I have been organising golf trips to Aberdovey for over ten years, and cannot speak highly enough of the course, hospitality and accomodation. Everyone of our party feels an affinity to the place. Although we play different courses every year, everyone insists that Aberdovery is an annual event. We started with one night and two rounds of golf, and now always book two nights and three rounds. That says everything! Sitting next to the 18th green in late evening listening to the silence is a special feeling that Aberdovery gives you.

Only used the course as an access point to the beach. Signage was excellent. Path clealy visible.

Fantastic from start to finish, all club and shop staff really helpful ensuring we enjoyed the whole day. Thanks to club member Mike Jones who did the starters role at the event giving us a warm welcome on the 1st tee .

Wow what a Links the Aberdovey golf club is, top shelf as the sea side village. The complete package. Its the stuff golfing dreams are made of.

Simply a sensational golf course. Played in near gale force winds, but it was a fantastic challenge! Great fairways, fair rough, stunning greens. The onsite B&B is affordable, comfortable & good quality. Every golfer interested in playing the best courses in the UK really must visit.

Just outside Aberdovey there are a few parking places of the road with access to the golf club and beach. I don't play golf but it looks ok. However you can walk across to access miles of sandy beach and sand dunes. Because of the size it is in no way crowded unlike the beach in town. It is great for walking, taking dogs or just chilling out. You may want to take windbreakers for the latter as it is very exposed.

Lovelly course. Also played Royal St Davids and this course wins hands down...freindly and efficient staff. Made an Englishman and his co-golfers very welcome....will def be back. Recommend.

This restaurant is part of the Aberdovey Golf Club and is located within the clubhouse, although it runs separately from the golf club itself. The menu choice was excellent and the food was superbly prepared. It lacks a little on atmosphere, and the only diners were people who, like myself, were staying in the golf club accommodation. Non-golfers would enjoy it however.

This golf club restaurant is now open to non members. The food is of excellent quality and the service and setting can’t be faulted. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We visited the restaurant with a large group on a very wet and windy weekend, however the golf club were very accommodating. The food was all fantastic, and well received by all. The standard was very high, as always, with care taken over the presentation of each dish. We thoroughly enjoy our visits at the golf club and find ourselves regularly returning.

Had a fabulous meal last night. Mushroom arancini was delicious and the lamb was truly scrumptious. My husband had sea bass which was cooked to perfection. All the staff were very polite and attentive. This is a great addition to Aberdovey and well worth a visit. Will definitely return for another visit.

We had fish and chips with beer batter, massive portion, beautifully cooked, friendly service. Very reasonably priced

We have been frequent beneficiaries of the Wednesday ‘steak and large wine’ deal for several weeks. More recently I celebrated a big birthday with family there, and again tonight we enjoyed an excellent meal, nicely served by a chirpy, attentive waitress.

Lovely food which was very good value for money, generous portions, excellent service and friendly, helpful staff. The restaurant atmosphere was relaxed and the dining room quite spacious. Bonus, the dining chairs were comfy, and the correct height for eating, (not always the case locally).

Went for a meal out with friends and thought we would try our newest 'local' restaurant.

Spent 4 days/nights this week playing Aberdovey GC and stsying in the dormy house. It was brilliant. The whole set up is fantastic for golfers. All the staff (admin team, pro shop, bar, restaurant and green keeper) were super friendly, helpful and welcoming which made our stay memorably. I'd also like to thank the members, particularly the ladiies section and Val who clearly does a great job with the juniors. 5 star service all round, thoughly recommended and a wonderful golf course. Bigger golf names and clubs take note!

This is a venue with great potential, it being adjacent to the bar which has great views across the 18th hole and out to sea. The menu has enough choices to cater for most tastes and the waiting staff are friendly and attentive. My steak was served with fantastic triple cooked chips and a good peppercorn sauce, and the lamb dish boasted a generous portion of meat. Dessert was fine, but unremarkable. Bar prices are reasonable. The décor is staid and a little outdated, but if the new restaurant team make a success of things then perhaps this could be rectified with a more modern scheme and some better lighting.

This was our first visit to The Oyster Catcher; the waitress was lovely who served us but we were situated very close to the bar and there were 2 large groups in who were very loud which spoilt the atmosphere and ambience of the restaurant. It might help to separate the bar and restaurant maybe. One of our party had the vegetarian lasagne which was more like cannelloni and was very dry, but the other dishes were ok. I thought it was quite expensive for a golf club restaurant.

We came here on the last night of our holiday and wished we’d tried it earlier in the week as we would definitely have gone back again! Lots of options took our fancy, but the arancini and duck spring rolls for starters were absolutely delicious and piping hot. Lots of fresh ingredients used throughout, and the mains were similarly impressive. I had the Thai chicken (lovely peanut and coriander flavours in this)and my husband had the battered fish and (triple cooked) chips which were to die for!! The waiter was polite and attentive throughout, the barman was really friendly and one of the chefs who popped out to say hi seemed like a really nice guy, who was keen to discuss his food and get feedback. The only negatives...it is a golf club, albeit a nicely furnished one - so it doesn’t quite have a proper restaurant ambience, and there were only two other tables during our visit which made it a bit quiet. However, the views onto the golf course were pleasant, and it was very clean and comfortable, and located right next to the railway station (which was how we’d got there so we could both have a drink). Talking of which, the NZ Sauv Blanc was very reasonably priced at only £16.50 a bottle. In fact the whole meal was very reasonable. We holiday a fair bit in Cornwall and it was great value in comparison. Sorry this is review is so long, but they’re just starting out and deserve to do well!

Very challenging course, friendly people.

Delicious food, generous portions, well presented and sensibly priced. The menu has lots of choice for gluten free, and the option to make certain other dishes GF too. The kitchen were easy to contact and helpful with my enquiry about kids meals. Would highly recommend and will definitely return. (Could do with an advertising board at the entrance of the golf club, so people know it’s there!)

The menu choices were inspired. The food was delicious and the service was spot on. Make sure you visit this restaurant for a wonderful meal and you don’t even need to be a member of the golf club to eat there.

The Oyster Catcher is easy to miss, tucked away off the main road at Aberdyfi Golf Club. But miss it at your peril! Once inside, the upstairs dining room has breathtaking views across the golf course and dunes to the sea, great for watching the sunset.

Thoroughly recommend - friendly service, beautiful views and stunning food. This restaurant has recently been opened up to non-members off the golf club and is well worth a visit. Somewhat hidden on the outskirts of Aberdovey, just by the railway station, it is worth persevering to find it. The first floor restaurant has beautiful views out across the golf course and sand dunes. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. The food is beautifully cooked and presented (and the chips to die for!!). We will be back!

Amazing food and amazing views, with great hospitality! The Oyster Catcher is located in Aberdovey Golf club, but open to the public. The menu is really varied, offering something for everyone, including amazing desserts. The steak deal on Wednesday's is great value, it was cooked to perfection, and very generous (with the best chips!) Highly recommended!

Recently opened to the general public this is a hidden gem of a restaurant. It’s located within the golf club clubhouse (upstairs) and has a menu that covers all the bases.

Played a fourball in 29°c.Course in excellent condition.Possibly the best greens on any links we have played.Certainly as good as Royal Liverpool.Must keep it straight.Lots of rough,which was very penal.Excellent welcome.First class all round.

I eat at the Oyster Catcher restaurant at Aberdovey Golf Club as part of a group of 8, every body enjoyed their meal. I can personally recommend the "Sizeable Fish'n' Chips", Excellent batter surrounding perfectly moist fish, the chips and mushy peas were fabulous and the tartare sauce was simply divine

I visit Aberdovey quite often and have eaten in most of the restaurants. The Oyster Catcher at Aberdovey Golf Club has just opened and is up there with the best.
