We had a great meal at the Ox. The service was friendly and efficient and the decor very relaxing. The starters and main courses were excellent. The Portugese house red wine was a great accompaniment to the beautifully spiced dishes.

Stayed here for the weekend as we have stayed before in March, amazing place lovely staff and great food, Sheila the manager is so lovely she goes out of her way to make your stay perfect, rooms are nice but looking very dated need a good sprooce up , and bit of money spending on them . Bathroom needed somewhere to put things like a small table or bathroom cabinet there is just nowhere to put anything . Didn’t spoil the stay though as it’s always clean and has a comfy bed. Had food both days which was nice presented well and good value. Nice atmosphere on the evening. Breakfast was lovely really nice food and I cannot fault it. As said earlier Sheila the manager is a credit to this place she goes out of her way to ensure your stay is enjoyed. Definetly will be back .

Booked the Ox 2 for a joint party with my friend. We called and visited ahead of time and were assured that:- 1)The balloon display that was in situ was going to be there so we cancelled the display we had booked (the cleaners then burst them all and removed the morning of the party!) 2) Spoke about getting the bottles of Prosecco at a reduced price-agreed £23 - on the night they refused to honour this and charged £30. 3) The leather sofas have seen better days - there are rips in most of them 4) The floor is hazardous in places and we had to stuff the holes - but then staff put rubber mats over , which were unsightly. Overall its a great venue for a party and the two bar staff Wilson and Theo were excellent and so helpful. It was just a shame we had these few issues. There was no apology for charging the full amount for the Prosecco and no offer of reducing the outstanding balance

A tasty and delicious lunchtime menu. Good on budget too. A two course under £10 All the dishes were good quality. we shall be back.

Came for a birthday meal… after eating here numerous times in the past and loving the food! Such a disappointment, restaurant feels so run down now, no atmosphere, freezing cold, and the food was dire! I have no idea what has happened to their kitchen staff but that was the worst meal I have been served, Weeping Tiger, which used to be amazing… the steak was beaten to an inch of its life, cold, fatty, no flavour and when returned as inedible, the replacement meal ordered of Beef massaman was chicken, but at this point we couldn’t bothered to say anything. And even that dish was tasteless with rubbery chicken! Even the kids meal tasted terrible. You get better chicken nuggets at McDonald's! Genuinely disappointing!

Lovely place to stay. Stayed here for a night as we were seeing the drifters at the theatre. Staff were friendly, Mary was lovely. Food was great, brilliant service

Spent £165 would like to have spent more. Service was not good, we ate at 8pm by 9.30pm we would have liked a dessert. We were not offered, the restaurant was not busy. I realise we could have made the waiter aware however it was obvious by now the kitchen was clearing up. We would have had more drinks if the waiter had asked too. No bitters, very poor. Will not visit again. Shame the food for our starter and main tasted very good just poor service or no service.

We had a last minute meet up with friends, just an early but brill dinner. Really impressed with the food we ordered - my husband and I ordered the tiger steak and it was perfect. Had a side of stir fry veg which was well worth it and wine brill ! Service was professional and spot on ! We dined with friends who ordered a real mix and all really enjoyed. I would thoroughly recommend the tiger steak - one of the best meals we have had in a long time, as a local to Ashley Cross great to find somewhere else to go !!

I booked the OX 2 for a surprise party for my husband and I'm so glad I did. It was an amazing venue for my husband's surprise 50th - the venue is great for gatherings - it's like a lodge inside and really private. Sheila and her team at the OX were amazing leading up to it and on the night - they were flexible and provided great service on the night even though it was a busy New Year's Eve. Thank you so much #TeamOx - a really great night and I'd recommend to anyone!

Went for our work Christmas party. Very average food. Seeing the chef tipping the food from Tupperware boxes onto the plate from a microwave is far from ideal. One of our party changed the order two days before, which wasn’t communicated, so received the wrong meal. Then waited 15mins for the right food One of our party was veggie but received a Turkey pie. This is so disappointed All in all very poor through out. Didn’t even get a free drink to say sorry. When it’s a table of 10, spending hundreds of pounds, thats pretty poor. Won’t be returning.

We were the only diners in the restaurant as we arrived early, we had a lovely bottle of primitivo while waiting which gets the 1 star. The rest was utterly appalling, the menu reads fantastically but what it delivers is slop. We has the prawn Thai bao, as yo u can see from my picture this was just a microwaved bao bun filled with ice cold crab mayo which was mostly mayo and several dangerous large shards of shell. Vile I didn't eat it. The main ls my partner had a panang lamb shank which had been microwaved (and was admitted to) shocking for a charge of £19 you should be ashamed. I have a duck red curry which was made up of gristle and fat and very awkwardly served to be able to eat. We were both genuinely concerned the food may make us ill. I don't think taking 50% off the bill was really adiquate as none of the food was remotely edible so it was still a massive waste of money for us. Leason learnt. Maybe spend more money on food quality and less on decor.

A beautiful restaurant with delicious food and a great atmosphere. Customer service was good as was the room. A big comfy bed and very clean. Would recommend and would stay again.

Visited here on bank holiday weekend with friends. We didn’t have a booking but managed to get seated quickly. The food was great, generous portions and really tasty. The bar man was really friendly and overall good value for money. The desserts were very very very nice! Atmosphere was also great. Would recommend if you like Thai food!

I walked into an empty bar and ordered a Peroni and a pint of LIME and SODA this cost over £10. Peroni I understand at £6 a pint but for a small shot of lime and water and a slice of lime is outrageous. The barman was surly(possibly duty manager) basically said take it or leave it. He came outside and asked whether anybody else wanted a drink but ignored us. I'm presuming he knew I would have said no thanks. Your restaurant was EMPTY so we walked up to the FULL restaurant up the hill, it was £7.20 for exactly the same and the atmosphere was top class. We spent over £100 food and drink wise and this could have been your takings and a regular customer. Re-think your business plan. Take or leave my advise. I will not return. 0 stars

The hotel is very down at heel. We could not fault the food which was excellent but the rooms are untidy and don't appear to be clean. For a £99 nights crash you get what you pay for, but don't expect the romantic rooms that you see in on the website. The barman who was left in charge seemed to have no authority.

Thank you for hosting our party and bar staff were lovely however, we were very disappointed with the overall service and lack of communication particularly with the money being spent. For those thinking about booking this venue, please be aware that: 1. the person in charge of organising your event, hardly replies to your emails. You are constantly told, 'We'll look into this and come back to you.' and no one ever does. We had booked this venue four-five months in advance and after chasing them on numerous occasions re: menus and drink options etc. no one came back to us until a week prior to our event. 2. If you book catering with them, be prepared to bring bin bags and collect the dirty plates yourself even when staff are collecting glasses. 3. No warnings for last orders so guests weren't able to get their last drinks. 4. Music cuts off ten minutes before venue closes (which is appreciated) however, staff immediately try to usher you out as soon as possible even if you haven't finished the drink you have paid for and before you have even had the chance to order your taxi and accommodate the elderly. 5. When you then pack any left over food you have paid for and decor you wish to take home, you are told off and told to, 'Shhhhh' (treated like kids) and, "You shouldn't even be here at 12am', despite only being ten minutes over 12am. However, lovely venue and the food was delicious.

I have been here many times and the food is always wonderful and the staff are very good. There is one particular female manager who I don’t know the name of but who is always very accommodating and helpful, I would definitely recommend

Took my mother here for pre mothers day drinks. The place is a bar with a restaurant area. We were sat in the BAR area near the fire. Suddenly without warning we were told by the bar staff to leave "NOW" to make room for diners. No notice or pre warning given. We left immediately but only after I complained to the assistant manager who could see that my mother was in tears, she just said that she could not understand what her problem was. This place does not care what the customer thinks - Proof of that is given by the way in which the management choose to ignore this review. Any suggestions on alternative venues in the Parkstone area that care about their customers would be highly appreciated so that I can make a booking.

First time visiting the Ox, a little nervous before hand reading the past trip advisors reviews but they pulled it out the bag. We enjoyed two lovely starters and two delicious mains! Booked 2 rooms for 2 nights for my teenage son and I. On arrival in the evening my son took a shower in the twin room only to find that the steam had highlighted the message "I'm watching you" on the bathroom mirror. Not surprisingly he found this extremely unnerving to the point where I slept in the other twin bed that night, leaving the double room we'd booked unused.The twin room itself was poorly presented and unclean - large, unpleasant stains on the bed base and carpet, tears in the net curtains, a bedside light with no plug to put it into.....extremely disappointing and not reflective of the amount paid for the stay.On arrival we tried to book breakfast and were told since we were the only guests who wanted breakfast we'd just have to go to the coffee shop over the road instead.When we came down early Saturday morning (we were leaving to go out for the day) there was noone in the bar or restaurant area for me to complain to. I tried phoning during the day but noone picked up. I raised my concerns as soon as we returned that evening but at that point had already decided to check out and stay with friends for the second night as the stay was so unpleasant.I was promised a call back re my complaint which never came....after days chasing I was told no refund or reduction would be offered (I'd settled the full amount in advance of my stay). Despite numerous calls and emails I've had no replies.Absolutely terrible service, appalling rooms - avoid!

Sorry to say the food in this place is pretending to be Thai. Not a patch on Koh Thai. The bar area and restaurant are very comfortable and furnishings are lovely. Let down totally by the dreadful non authentic Thai food. Will not eat here again.

Great Thai restuarant. Welcoming, attentive and helpful staff serving a wide range of very tasty dishes. Most of the menu is Thai with dishes ranging from mild to quite hot plus a few traditional english dishes like steaks.

Absolutely brilliant night celebrating my wife’s 50th Birthday with family and friends. The Ox has a wonderful ambience in a warm atmosphere. Cannot speak more highly of the customer service provided by Zsolt and the staff. From the moment of booking to the moment of leaving, nothing was too much trouble, offering those little extras with attention to detail and ‘going the extra mile’ to deliver a fantastic service and making my wife’s Birthday meal with special friends and family a brilliant evening. Food was superb, catering for a variety of tastes from Thai to European with Vegan and allergies catered for, so everyone could eat something they liked. Thank you Zsolt and your staff! Would definitely highly recommend The Ox!

Sunday lunch was awful. First noticed the glasses were dirty, not the first time this has happened in this restaurant. The roasts were just OK, the veggies were dry and looked like they had been warmed several times. Ribs were thick and gluey, not pleasant. The worst thing was we were overcharged £40 - check your bill is my advice.Won’t be returning the place is not pleasant.

Our second visit lived up to the expectations of the first. The food was delicious and authentic Thai and came at a price that was surprising. The venue is comfortable and the service was really good with the waitress having a good knowledge of the dishes available. We look forward to our next visit.

Visited the Ox recently when my sister and her partner came to visit as we’d been before many times and had always enjoyed the food and the atmosphere at the bar and in the restaurant. We hadn’t been since the menu changed to Thai but were impressed with the extensive menu. On arriving they were slow to seat us. We were eventually asked what we wanted to order and had to request a round of drinks. The starters were quite nice (we had the chicken satay and the spring rolls) but weren’t far off the price of the main courses. The main courses however were really disappointing. We all had different dishes ranging from the cashew nut and chilli chicken stir fry to the beef red curry but all of them were bland and the sauce seemed watered down. When asked how our meals were (presumably because we’d all left a lot on our plates) the waitress didn’t apologise but instead went and told the manager. He came over and asked quite aggressively what was wrong with the food to which we explained politely that it was quite tasteless to which he had little response. Needless to say we won’t be returning which is a real shame given the our nostalgia of the former restaurant. Poor slow service and less than mediocre food. A bit of an embarrassment when we’d raised the expectations of our guests!

The Ox has always been one of our favourites for a Saturday evening drink or Sunday afternoon drink.However last couple of times we have been there I don't feel it's acceptable that Dogs should be sat on the furniture or bar stools. And today on the bar itself was the dogs ball & ball thrower? I do not think that is hygienic at all where food and drinks are served!!Perhaps dogs should be away from bar & food area!

All to often Sunday lunches flatter to deceive, as a family of four plus a baby we had a really good meal enjoyed by all. The food met our expectations and the service was good and attentive. I was was concerned by some previous negative reviews but our experience indicated they were unfounded.

Went for Sunday lunch as our first time eating here, service was initially a bit slow with people who arrived after us being served first but once we had got over this little glitch it was a very pleasant experience. The food was lovely and it’s a very relaxing environment giving a great value dining experience.

Always loved the Ox however since they changed to a Thai menu, it’s really gone downhill. Thai food is very average and doesn’t compete with places like Koh Thai.

Went to this venue with some friends, as we had done a couple of years ago, when we had an excellent meal, nice steak on a board with vegetables and a wire basket of chips, well presented and tasty. Went there for special meal with some friends, the meal was awful, looked like something the good had sicked up, they now appear to offer mainly Thai food which was very poor and not a patch on the previous menu. We had to summon the staff over to reluctantly took the order. A total disaster from the previous meal we had there. Not a venue to visit again !

The food is very good - authentic and full of flavours. However, the prices are too high for what you get - especially the Ox sharing platter which was £18 and definitely on the small side. We won’t return in a hurry as there are many other brilliant Thai restaurants in the area.

Returned yesterday for Sunday lunch . Decided on the Thai menu . Soft shelled crab delicious. We had many prawn dishes equally delicious. The cocktails were perfection . The Manager was extremely helpful and attentive. Can’t fault this restaurant. Highly recommend it.

Authentic thai and cooked to a great standard and was tasty and plentiful. the price was reasonable and I don't know if it was an off day but the service was a little slow and they try to palm us off with a warm bottle of white wine and when we said it wasn't good enough tried to blame us. still it didn't stop us enjoying our meal and the bonus is they service timothy landlord ale is you like it which i do.

A group of 5 adults and one child had lunch for Father’s Day. All of the food apart from one dish was delicious. The beef on the Thai beef salad was fatty. This was mentioned to the waiter with no real acknowledgement. So I sent a fb email with the same feedback which was also ignored. The lack of customer service would sadly put me off returning!

Why was I so stupid to cancel the Du Vin Hotel to stay here!!!! The room number 1 is supposed to be a deluxe room at the cost of £110..how you can charge this for a room with outdated furniture an outdated bed and a TV we couldn't switch off is beyond me... The noise from the traffic is horrorendous and we had no sleep... The carpet was covered in stains I think you have a cheek asking for 110 to stay in this pit for one night although I will say it had a decent bathroom still not worth 110..no breakfast included in this... On check out nobody asked how everything was... Never again for us so glad to be home in our bed tonight for a decent sleep.

I visited The Ox with a friend and decided that I had to return with the family. The food is excellent and quite honestly the best Thai food I have ever had at very ready price. Especially the lamb shank massaman

This was my first visit despite driving past The Ox many times. My friend suggested it as a place for dinner and I was really excited as I love Thai cuisine.

Came in to the ox for a few drinks with work friends.

4 of us went to the Ox for a drink one evening it was the first and definitely the last time we will be there. To say the service was poor is being too complimentary, both girls serving left the bar and went to sit in the corner with one of their partners for the rest of the night. When we and other customers wanted a drink we had to ask them to come and serve us which was a great inconvenience to them. They were eating pizza and also had a dog sat up on the furniture with them. At 9.45 the one who claimed to be the manager announced that they were closing when we questioned this she said they weren’t busy, with this attitude we were not surprised. Considering we had been there since 7o’clock and put well over £100 over the bar we couldn’t believe the attitude of the staff.

Just a drink in the bar. Lovely welcome but please guys. always check the glasses you serve from for smears and chips, Mine had both. I didn't make a fuss about the smear to avoid upsetting my husband and then only saw the chip at the end. Eyesight check and training for the staff please. Such a shame when everything else is so good. It kind of makes you wonder about the state of the kitchen when a glass isn't clean.

I never feel the need to write a bad review as I always try to see the best in places but this was a very disappointing experience for me from start to finish.

Great atmosphere and imaginative décor. The staff are all very friendly and our waitress went the extra mile and ran up the road in order to buy bananas for us from the local shop so that we could have banana firitters, as they had run out! Very impressive.

I stayed here as friends had hired the Ox2 for their engagement party and it seemed the obvious choice.

My wife organised what was to be a lovely birthday surprise for me..... turned out to be the worst birthday ever thanks to the poor quality of both staff and management at this establishment.

I had booked a table for two on a Saturday night for a nice meal before a show. I had heard the food here was great.

Took a group from work very near to Christmas, place was heaving, but the service, food and atmosphere were excellent. Catered brilliantly for a specific food allergy. Definitely be back next year.

We went here before Christmas. The food was great all our friends ate from the Thai menu, we sat right next to the kitchen so saw the food being prepared and cooked which was nice.

Went for Christmas Lunch. Excited as very expensive. Set meal with choices decided prior and payment in full required at beginning of December. The Turkey meals were OK (not nearly as good as turkey meal before Christmas) but beef tough and mashed potato cold. Portions small. Atmosphere good however. Such a shame as The Ox was well known for Christmas When old Restaurant Manager was there.

Recently went to the bar at the Ox for the first time. Had a good evening, but totally spoilt by an overcharge after buying two beers. Didn't notice at the time that debit was a lot more than verbally advised. Called as soon as got home and noticed. Despite six calls and 2 emails, and manager (Sheila) promising to resolve, she has never called back, and the issue remains unresolved after nearly 3 weeks so feel that it is likely to remain that way . Very disappointed. Wouldn't recommend, as clearly no idea about good customer service and obviously concerned as to how the overcharge occurred.

A friend and I popped in on Sunday 30th December for a drink, we asked for the cocktail menu only to be told by a miserable barman that he didn’t have one and wasn’t expecting to make cocktails on a Sunday!!! After a lot of huffing (on his part) we said we would just have a G&T;.

Had dinner here with friends before we saw a show , the pub was lovely with a lovely atmosphere, we ordered drinks and sat down , the menu was really lovely and I felt spoilt for choice , I chose the Thai chicken green curry with chips .it was really lovely and full of flavour , we all enjoyed our food and the service was great, I would recommend xxx

I have to say this hotel needs to invest in better windows- I honestly felt like I was sleeping on the pavement with the amount of noise of passing traffic. You think when staying above a restaurant/pub you may be disturbed by the noise from there however we couldn’t hear that at all... all night we just had the passing traffic noise, with a lorry driving past even shaking our bed at 3am... on top of this in our room the flush on toilet was semi broken, the toilet roll holder had fallen off and the shower head wouldn’t stay up alone... so seems like rooms needs a bit of DIY love and care! I’ve seen mixed reviews on here with people also saying they had a lovely quiet night- all I can say is if you do stay here don’t stay in room 3! Also upon checkout the lady literally just took our keys and said thanks... no interest in checking how our stay was!

What a shame this place has gone downhill. We used to love going to The Ox . It has slowly but surely destroyed itself.

Booked a party of 21 for dinner for a 70th Birthday Party. At the time of booking the menus were changing so we waited in anticipation for what might be on offer, as we knew and had eaten at the Ox on previous occasions and always liked what had been on offer.

Although a frequent visitor to Ashley Cross, this was my first time in The Ox this past Saturday and we had a great time! The girls and guys behind the bar were so friendly and welcoming.

My wife and I went down for a couple drinks for the Halloween night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Great atmosphere, great music and the staff were lovely

I hired the OX2 the events hall behind the OX hotel, for my birthday party dance. It is the old science hall from a school that has long since gone. They have retained lots of the school features and added a mezzanine level for extra seating, it even has an off the ground open log fire to add a real cosy feel to what is a super quirky room. It has a bar at one end and Jasmine our bar person was superb, serving everyone a smile with their drink. Everyone who came has said what a great atmosphere it has, I have to say this has become my favourite event space for any future parties, everything about it works.

What a lovely, friendly exciting place. We had a wonderful night with the friendly professional bar staff. The facilities were exceptional and the atmosphere was really electric. Really really nice place to be. Well done all the staff involved.

We were looking for somewhere in and around Ashley cross for lunch, and The Ox had been a recommendation - and what a good one!!

Just had a party in The Ox2, a small character venue behind the main pub. An adorable, authentic, intimate venue, with a bar, sofas, tables and chairs if you prefer. Wonderful bar staff in the evening, although the “canapés” I booked were a disaster. The pub seems to be going through a change, and on that very night turned into a Thai restaurant, and the original staff have all left, so it was very stressful that week organising what they could and couldn’t do. I have to say that battered spring rolls and samosas, together with a huge bowl of cold pasta!! Was NOT canapés!.

OMG. I wish this restaurant was in London . It’s up there with Zuma.. all of them..

Great Thai, you can always judge how good it’s gonna be based on the tomyum - 👌 Had lunch here, will be back for dinner

I don’t often leave reviews but this place really took us by surprise - the food was absolutely delicious and the team there, friendly and welcoming! We are huge Thai food lovers and this place is up there with the best we have tried - the Tempura King Prawns were unreal! My personal favourite was the Thai Green Curry! We will definitely be coming back here on our next trip to Dorset! Thank you!

Really great place to spend an entire Sunday with a group of friends. I didn't realise the menu had changed to Thai food but I was pleasantly surprised when I found out. The standard of the cooking was great. You wont regret the visit!

Had a fabulous three hour lunch with 5 friends at the Ox. New Thai menu which was very authentic. It’s my favourite food so I have tried many, including Patara in London. Great Thai chef producing Tom Yum Goong and lovely Green chicken curry. Hope to be back soon. Decor was novel with indoor trees and good acoustics.

Tacky signage outside probably should have given us an indication to the standard of the food..... it’s overpriced and the lardy mess I was served as ‘tempura vegetables’ was disgusting. The tempura vegetables which according to the waitress is ‘authentic’ because the chef said so, consisted of onion and peas- that were probably frozen and checked into fat in a lump with some batter poured over.... as that is how it ( the lump) was presented. I’ve said it before- I always judge a place by how they put a situation right.... this place took back the food, insisted it was authentic, and didn’t offer a refund or replacement. Won’t be back....

Stayed in The Ox on the back of an extremely enjoyable business dinner in January this year. Compared to January I can only say that the restaurant has really slipped. A lot of the menu wasn't available, and the scallop starter appeared within 2 mins of ordering, it was obviously sitting there for a while... as for the room, I am listening to the traffic on the main road and don't have a proper shower for the morning, only a bath. .... I.e. room 12

Not been for a couple of years. Liked the food a lot with many different dishes we both would have chosen. Service pleasant but a bit haphazard. Although we booked no sign of it on booking sheet. Fairly priced. Seemed popular with big returning parties. Will return to try other dishes.

Highlights for me were the gorgeous food especially the fillet of steak and my prawn starter. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. When I am next in the area I will definitely be coming back for dinner.

We are always looking for a roast on a Sunday that woes and it’s harder than you might think. We went to The Ox On a Sunday in early August having booked. On arrival we noticed that we were the only people there, warning signs we thought.

It was good pie and mash. CAn't say much more than that. It was quiet in the restaurant which was fine. They stop serving at 9pm so don't arrive hungry any later because we were not told that and we had a bit of a journey.

This place is terrible the management

For my husband's 65th he gave up a holiday with friends in Scotland, sailing in the Western Isles, to spend the day and evening with our Son and Daughter, along with a very special family friend and another who flew over from Malta to see him. Ox being one of our local haunts, it was decided to have a Meal here. Ok, we are known here so should have been perfect! Being 7of us we pre-ordered, at OXs request,fair enough, everything should have gone perfectly. Wrong. 6 arrived, with daughter in Law missing. She was at home dealing with an emergency with her mother and was waiting for an ambulance. Management were told that we were 1 short. We were promptly told "your order is for 7". Taking our table we had to ask for drinks, our starters were delivered along with the one we didn't require. We then waited for the main courses. These were brought to us. One of the main courses was spilt on the floor!, Apparently it was picked up and rather quickly brought to the table? The waitress was seen to take the meal out of obviously what she thought was out of our sight? Birthday Boy ordered Cold Crab Salad. The accompanying fries were delivered well into his meal. Almost finished with this course a waitress came along with a meal asking "anyone waiting for a meal?". Answer was pretty obvious, had she bothered to look across the table. I had a Birthday Cake made privately, thank goodness. Thank you very much to "Creative Cakes by Nikki" Faultless. I had to ask for the cake along with the forks to eat it with! We even had to ask for the bill, which the kids were paying, a Very Big Thanks to them. When the bill arrived I had the initiative to tell out son to check it. YES,charged for the starter and main we didn't have. Husband is now furious. He grabbed the bill and took it to the till to be adjusted. Again, told we ordered for 7. We finished up by paying for just the 6 and I don't think the kids left a tip, good for them. The food was Good, but, service was absolutely appalling. Will not be repeating this experience and certainly not a place any of us would recommend. We'de had a great day to be finished off with this. Thanks Very Much Ox.
