I have been coming here for 20 years, it has recently gone under new management. The food is 5*, the landlord and land lady are very hospitable. This is great place for family, friends and couples. The Sunday dinners are exceptionally good, with the lamb shank a family favourite, the meat literally falls off the bone. Thanks to Chris (landlord) for always making us all feel comfortable and at home.

Having previously experienced a good Sunday roast here 2 or 3 years ago, we returned specifically with that in mind. Unfortunately, the chicken was a tiny breast, the potatoes were soggy, Yorkshire pudding was tasteless and like cardboard, and the additional cauliflower cheese didn't even have a serving spoon. The landlord asked halfway through if everything was OK, but having given a muted response, he showed no interest in us from then on. They need to buck up their ideas if they want to maintain their ratings as this was the worst roast dinner I've had for a while, and it wasn't cheap.

Sunday lunch for 2 adults and a child cost us £93. It tasted fairly good, but way too expensive for the quality. 2 Sunday roasts, child meal, average wine, childs drink and kids ice cream. Being charged a 10% service charge for Sunday lunch (or anywhere in the UK, for that matter) is questionable. The music wasn’t in keeping with the venue either…. Didn’t make for a relaxing ambience. All that being said, we enjoyed our time there, but just felt overpriced

Really outstanding service. They let us sit inside with a two-year old at 4:30pm on a Friday, which was incredible as most of the other pubs in the quay area wouldn’t let us in. Chef knocked up a cracking pasta and tomato for my granddaughter at short notice and staff couldn’t do enough for us. The food was superb and the decor really comfortable and relaxing. Highly recommended. Thank you!

We have been to the new Rope and anchor a few times since the new owners (Holly and Dave) have taken over and had such an amazing time. Having just seen the review posted below I felt the need to comment as we were there and feel that there should be a bit more clarity on this “review” the chap was really loud and unpleasant and was clearly upset by something at the bar, he then proceeded to call the barman the c word and when told that was unacceptable by the landlady proceeded to shout in her face and tell her to shut up! We never witnessed any kind of rudeness and have only been met with really friendly professional service when we have been there! Don’t let this one get you down guys! Keep up the great work!

What a great find! We visited a couple of weeks ago. Super pub located just off the main quayside road. Lovely interior decor- clean ,fresh and smart. The barman/ waiter was very friendly and extremely helpful. ( Sorry I didn't get your name) He moved tablets for us to accommodate our family group and answered any questions we had. Great to see a pub menu which has something different included. Extensive and varied selection of meals. Can definitely recommend the chicken flatbread and the chilli nachos. Food came out quickly and was excellent. Great quality and very generous portions too. Really enjoyed our meals. Good selection of local ales although we were not drinking this particular visit. Toilets were upstairs and very clean although there is a disabled one on the ground floor for those that require it. I believe there is also a beer garden situated at the rear . Dog friendly bar / restaurant area too! In all a very pleasant experience and highly recommend. Will definitely visit again when we are next in Poole. 5*

Sat there 10 minutes only to be asked to move as a pre booked party has arrived. We discovered basically 2 glasses of ice with not enough liquid for a mouth full. As we were so disgusted, we decided to post a review and leave ASAP. An aggressive staff member (claimed it was his bar, but not sure if true?)discovered what we were doing and shouted at us to leave accusing us of lying and having drunk our drink before we took the photo of the virtually empty glass . The Rope and Anchor provided a truly delightful dining experience that left us with fond memories. The food was delicious, with a special mention to their Sunday lunch that was both visually appealing and satisfying to the taste buds (please do book and have one as the Sunday Lunches are so good). The wonderful variety of beers came as a pleasant discovery, with each one presenting its own distinct flavors while keeping a clear and crisp profile, for those who appreciate a good ale, your expectations will certainly be met. The warm and inviting attitude of the staff, along with their attentive service, contributed to the overall appeal of the establishment. They adeptly attended to our needs, creating an atmosphere where we felt like cherished patrons. The evenings held their own enchantment, as the entertainment seamlessly matched the cozy ambiance that characterizes a traditional pub setting, and when the entertainment elevated its tempo, it brought an additional layer of joy to the experience, resonating delightfully with everyone in the pub. We want to express our gratitude for the lovely experience during our holiday. We used to visit regularly on holiday when run by the old owners . So were pleased we booked a Sunday lunch in advance for our holiday again this year now that it has changed hands . The new owners and staff are really friendly, running it really well and serving up excellent food and drink. Warm and friendly welcome on arrival from the staff. Nice and clean and pleasant atmosphere. Well spaced out tables. Ladies toilets (upstairs) really clean and even have complimentary sanitary products if needed. Our Roast beef and yorkshire pudding sunday lunch was really tasty and so enjoyable. We like our meat well done, and they obliged by cooking it to our liking. Veg and roast potatoes were perfectly to our taste , a big pot of gravy to go with the big hearty meal. My massive portion of apple crumble was full of big chunks of apple and didn't skimp on the jugful of custard. Just perfect! Excellent and attentitve service throughout. We rebooked for the wednesday night and yet again a really warm welcome from the male member of staff who served us on Sunday and good service again from Courtney . Hubby's ham, cheese & pickles ploughmans and my fish, chips & minted mushy peas meals were yet again very tasty. Rounded off with vanilla cheesecake & a really fruity compote. Rebooked for our final night on the friday , and both had the fish & chips followed by the big apple crumble & custard for me. Again absolutely scrumptious! This is our favourite pub in Poole and will definitely dine there again most nights when next on holiday , as we have confidence in the quality of the food , as well as enjoying the friendly atmosphere, cleanliness and service. Many thanks to Lee and Ruth in the Rope & Anchor Poole. Popped in today for lunch and refreshments and thoroughly enjoyed the warm and friendly welcome. Our meals were fresh, tasty and prepared as requested (slight variation to listed menu). This traditional English pub...

A little gem tucked away in Poole old town. The roast dinner was absolutely amazing- between us we had turkey, beef and lamb and each dinner was delicious. The staff were all friendly and the atmosphere great with a nice music soundtrack being played. We will definitely come back again.

The place was completely dead compared to other spots on the Quay. The server maybe stopped by our table three times during the whole lunch time. Which was almost a good thing since multiple people at our table mentioned that the guy who served us had noticeable BO and stank. The food was underwhelming and the turkey was very dry. The pork was also said to be completely overcooked. The vegetables were quite disappointing and this was an overall very poor experience. Will not be coming back here

So very disappointing. Went for Friday Fish & Chips which we’ve done before and it’s been so good. This time the fish was soggy and swilling in grease. The top batter was crispy but underneath was slime. Neither of us ate much at all. The barmaid asked if all ok when she saw what was left on the plates so I said it was very soggy. There was no response or aftercare! It felt like it was defrosted fish which had been put into batter while wet - the fish slid out of the batter whole when cut into. The actual pub also looked a bit grubby- we went in 20 minutes after it opened and the floor needed a mop and there were a lot of crumbs under our table. There’s also flies hanging about in the bar which are annoying. Sad really as it used to be a lot better until recently. We’ll vote with our feet.

I love Greggs, always my quick go to for a coffee, lunch and a snack! No over inflated prices. My local is Nuffield Industrial Estate, but seems to be temporarily closed? I hope it reopens soon ❤️

As soon as I cut into the haddock I could smell that it was not fresh. A very pungent smell. My son’s haddock also had a very pungent smell. The chips had obviously been re-cooked . At a cost of £35 for the full 5 meals it can only be described as disgusting . I think that trading standards should make a visit to these premises.

Apart from a musty smell throughout the room, everything is clean as it should be! Very friendly staff 👍

Quite the innocuous pub tucked away in plain site - I think I walked past it twice before realising what it was! Anyway, a typically organised (and clean) spoons over one level wit h plenty of space to wander about in. It's good inside and I think the entrance (at least one of them) was good for wheelchair access. The breakfast was superb as always as was the wake up coffee that was essential at tat time of day. The staff were wonderful and funny (had a bit of chat with one of the bar staff - excellent chap) and the sneaky early Guinness was brilliant. Thanks guys (and gals)
