We visited The Owl for a family celebration and we enjoyed the 5-course tasting menu. I was impressed by the way in which each course was described in detail - it reminded me of Masterchef. The food was absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed the beef wellington and the salmon. Our table of 8 received excellent service from all the staff - they were incredibly attentive and regularly refilled drinks. I would definitely recommend this venue to celebrate a special occasion. Thank you to everyone for making it such a memorable experience.

Really good food and lovely setting. The chefs snacks were great, I had the sausage and mash starter and my wife the salmon. Both superb. I had the poussin for main, the breast was super, the leg wasn't to my taste but that is not to say it was poor but just not for me. Deserts were top too. My only worry about this place was it was quite quiet on a Friday night. Leeds needs this kind of restaurant, I hope business is good and it sticks around. Staff were friendly and attentive. Enjoyed the meal and location.

We visited for the tasting menu as we’re staying nearby and were not disappointed. We chose the 5 course version and all courses were delicious, so well presented and of great quality. The deer was a particular highlight. There was a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant a friendly buzz, and the staff were kind and friendly. You could see how much time and effort was invested to make the dishes. We would definitely return and would recommend.

Uncompromising. Lack of understanding and flat out crazy rules. 36 hours notice given as couldn’t come due to childcare issues. Booked for - £41 menu but told getting charged £50 per person for giving notice Says protection of business but will never go there or recommend there. Been once before and certainly not worth the terrible t&c’s Even if had said will try to fill table and if not charge a small fee I’d accept it.

Just incredible. I took my dad out as a treat for his birthday and as he had never experienced a tasting menu before, chose The Owl. It was a perfect evening. The food was as brilliant as ever. A wide variety of textures and flavours, there wasn't a dish we didn't love. They were all beautiful to look at and at first glance, may appear small, but we were both stuffed by the end. The wine pairings complimented all the dishes fantastically and we enjoyed the descriptions and stories given by the servers as our dishes were presented. My dad had high expectations after all my rave reviews and you totally exceeded them. He could not believe the magic you could work with tomatoes.

A friend and I visited, really excited as was the sister restaurant of Home. Nice location, friendly smiley service but …. My Halibut was overcooked (twice) and there was a dark hair on the plate. The team took it away straight away, no fuss and eventually another plate arrived. The fish was still over cooked and dry but no hair so a bonus. Couldn’t be bothered to complain again so ate it but irritated as it was expensive. That being said they removed it and the service charge from the bill without me asking, which was appreciated, albeit I would prefer pay for it and bet what I wanted. My friend ordered the Poussin. When it arrived she commented (to me) it wasn’t piping hot but didn’t want to make a fuss as probably felt she couldn’t as I had sent mine back. She enjoyed it, even though it could have been hotter. We left thinking we probably wouldn’t return as the food didn’t stand up to the expense…. and whilst the service was friendly they started turning off the lights at 9:45 clearly wanting us gone which wasn’t the best … The next morning I received a message from my friend who had been unwell with vomiting and stomach all night to see if I was ok (I was fine) and she said it must have been the Poussin. Later on in the day we checked our photos and could actually see that the Poussin was pink! How we hadn’t noticed I don’t know but clearly explained the issue. We contacted Owl who assured me they were carrying out a full investigation and would come back to me. Their response was that they had checked all their records and temperature checks etc. and it was all fine. My friend being unwell, the photo of the pink poussin and the hair in my meal (also happened to have a picture) should be enough evidence that something isn’t right. Instead they insisted nothing was wrong and it must just be us! They offered to give us a refund for the food, clearly thinking that is what I was after. It wasn’t. I wanted to see they were taking it seriously and putting things in place to correct it. Instead they simply said everything was fine for everyone else so it must be us - clearly cynical which riled me. . I certainly wouldn’t eat here again as I wouldn’t trust them to keep the food safe and more importantly take any issue seriously.

We often eat at the Owl. The restaurant is fine dining, in a very relaxed atmosphere. For lunch, the offer is from a set menu, a tasting menu, or an a la carte menu where you choose what you eat. The food has always been excellent, and I have posted before. I’m posting now, because it doesn’t just maintain standards, it is getting better all the time. For our lunch we chose from the a la carte menu. In effect, we created our own tasting menu. Every dish was delicious. I hope they never remove the pain perdu from the menu, the turbot dish of the day with a split sauce, seaweed, white asparagus and potato was wonderful. The beef and oyster sausage with beef fat mash and red onions came a close second for me, although my husband might have the baked oysters high on his list. The service is always spot on. We asked Audrey to bring us some appropriate glasses of wine, and they were all perfectly matched. Always worth a visit.

Our second visit to The Owl and once again the food was amazing .. we went for the 5 course taster Sunday menu .. chef's snacks to start were duck parfit on french toast with sticky chilli jam, crab and pickled seaweed, and cured duck. Starter was chicken thighs with smoked eel, celeriac puree served with warm smoked eel broth; followed by yorkshire puddings with caramelised onions, horseradish sauce and crispy roast potatoes with beef dripping gravy. Main course was beef wellington with ruscoff onions, duck liver gravy and beef dripping mashed potato .. finishing off with rose rhubarb parfait served with sage custard and rhubarb. Absolutely stunning and brilliant service .. £50/head and well worth it, I just need the recipe for those roast potatoes 😍

This would have been a 5 star review except that I wasn't convinced by the "Beef welly" and in particular the addition of duck liver in and around it (that wasn't mentioned on the menu) And the addition of even a small bit of broccoli or something green, at some point, is needed really.. There's a LOT of confit garlic too.. BUT, other than that it was overall a lovely meal with some brilliant flavour and texture combinations, with the crispy chicken thigh and smoky eel consomme being the absolute highlight...oh yes and the delicate little rhubarb and verbena dessert.... The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, the service was very good and the atmosphere of the room is just right...not formal but not too informal. For us the portion sizes were just right, and yes nothing was particularly hot...but I've got used to that in restaurants like this where presentation is extremely important. The plates were always very hot and as long as the food feels fresh (and not lukewarm cos it's been sitting around for ages) then I don't mind. We've been lucky enough to eat at the Michelin starred "Rogan & Co" recently too, and I would say that particularly the "snacks", crispy chicken and rhubarb dessert here at Owl were every bit as good as that. (and cheaper!) I definitely hope to return to The Owl...

The venue is super, just alongside the canal with some comfortable outside seating and the decor inside this small restaurant is really well done . The food is tremendous - absolutely first rate - cooked with flair, imagination and attention to detail. Hours of time went into the cooking of the taster menu. The red deer course was everyone’s favourite, but there was no bad course and plenty of great ones. This restaurant is clearly up there with the Man Behind the Curtain as one of Leeds’ top restaurants and for my money both the food and the venue are better.

Didn’t enjoy the addition of eucalyptus to the crab snack, nor did I particularly enjoy the sesame ice cream (although it pairs well with the chocolate mousse). Delicious food and pairing wines - but very stingy portions compared to how they delivered the experience in earlier days of the Owl. Waiter turned on their heel as soon as food delivered - we felt ignored and we had to call them back at least 3 times for help (missing course, missing side plate) felt really disappointed after looking forward to an evening we had long been looking forward to as a treat. What used to be a quirky and delicious dining experience (the markets) and then a moody and exciting menu (city centre) has turned into a cold and stark, clever and highly efficient delivery with a focus on speed.

So disappointing- after an amazing birthday treat meal at Home we expected good things of Owl - not Michelin level of course but good wholesome food at sensible prices. The food was served lukewarm warm and tiny portions which became increasingly difficult to understand. French onion soup, on a chilly drizzly February evening, was looked forward to - a tiny bit of something mousse like in the bottom of a bowl with a weak spoonful of a consommé type liquid poured over at the table was cold and tasteless- not the French Bistro evening bowlful we had expected by far. Pistachio and rhubarb soufflé was a triumphant ending but the rest - no thanks

We visited The Owl with family on a Sunday. While the restaurant was fairly busy, it was by no means full, yet the service was abysmal. Keeping it brief our experience included rude staff, missing drinks, starters taking just over an hour to arrive and then the main course a further 30 minutes after that. The starters were OK, nothing special, while the mains were cold and actually some of the food was dry. In the end we left the restaurant early and went elsewhere as we weren't willing to wait for a further eternity for the food to be served again. The lady who spoke to us, who I am assuming is a manager, apologised and said someone would contact me via email to set things right. Needless to say no such email was ever received. In summary, service was exceptionally poor as was the food. A pretty pretentious affair all in all. Unfortunately for The Owl, we were testing out the restaurant for a potential booking for 20+ people in April but certainly have no plans to return.

We went for lunch and ordered off the a la carte menu. I ordered the parfait starter which was reasonable but nice and creamy but would expect better. My wife had the vegetarian tart which was strange to say the least, would not recommend it. Main course I had fish and chips which was very nice however, the size of the piece of Stone Bass was something you would expect on a tasting menu not a £24 a la carte in Leeds! We also had a voucher that we had been given for christmas, the bill was £102 and the voucher for £150. Waitress and manager both advised that they couldn't give us a credit note/voucher for the difference but to our bewilderment. Not sure how an independent restaurant cannot do this, particularly when we pushed back on their 'no' three times and were clearly not happy about it. Anyway we took a £50 bottle of wine in the end but really was not very impressed overall especially at the price point. P.s. waitress was great and dealt with the strange situation well however, i think 'the director' as he apparently likes to call himself is one of them!

Funky industrial setting with a lovely view of the canal, attentive staff and delicious bread and marmite butter. Presentation of food in tiny dolls house size pans was sweet. However, the flavour combinations of our food were bizarre - sausage, beef and carrot and curried mousse?! And it was concerning such a high end restaurant had absolutely no pepper to share with diners! It was incredibly expensive for very average/odd food. So an interesting if expensive experience. We wouldn't return or recommend it.

This restaurant is the sister of Home and even though Home is the one striving for a Michelin Star the Owl is less pretentious and the tasting menu is as good if not better. The service was also far more friendly and efficient and the restaurant decor is much less gloomy than Home ( a case of style over substance ). We went there with friends and everyone thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it. My only complaint about the Owl was a previous booking whereby my wife became very ill and required emergency surgery in the hospital. I rang the restaurant to cancel the booking but was still charged the original £30 booking fee. I thought that was a bit mean.

The Old Owl was a Good Owl & sadly the New Owl is a Howl. Our first time at the new place. We booked on Thursday night following an expected baby sitting offer. Unfortunately we fell foul of a stomach bug literally the morning after (kids!!). We tried cancelling immediately - less than 24 hours after booking - and were provided the helpful option of either eating within 7 days (clearly owners do not have kids!!) or forfeiting £160. Seriously? Even without kids I imagine it cod be quite a struggle to rebook within a week. We advised we would be unable to rebook within a week and thought that concern regarding norovirus may outweigh avariciousness. After some unhelpful emails there seemed little option but to go and off we trotted (no pun intended) to The Owl on Saturday evening. Thankfully we felt we were improving by Saturday afternoon but despite best attempts neither of us was particularly hungry and the food being not ‘stomach gentle’ perhaps skewed our judgement. Our view was that the food was not particularly great - the crab fish was very salty and the dessert a little confused. Personally we were also not keen on the new venue either. The lighting and music were quite relaxed but the industrial feel was akin to sitting in a car park. The foil wrapped soil vent pipes running along the ceiling and down columns were a little off putting. Again we were likely a little sensitive. A bit of shame for us both as this was a rare night out for us these days and we used to enjoy the Old Owl a lot.

Best fried egg north of the Severn Estuary! Recently moved to Somerset but wanted to show off my Leeds credentials to my other half. Tribeca City Cafe fulfilled all expectations with a superb full English breakfast and coffees to match, all served promptly with refined professionalism. Had a friendly chat with the owner who definitely deserves your custom if you're anywhere nearby. If you can find your way to the magnificent Leeds Town Hall then this superb basement gem of a cafe is only a few yards away. Extra tables at street level also if the sun shines. You won't be disappointed!
