Stayed at the Cumberland Hotel Bournemouth and visited the Overcliff Bar last night for food and drinks. Such a warm welcome lovely food and Paul one of the staff members was so attentive great service with a smile thank you

Vinimos a este hermoso pub para disfrutar un poco de comida, pero fueron recibidos por papas fritas mal cocidas y queso empapado. Pensé que mejoraría con el plato principal, quiero decir, quién podría cocinar mal un minuto.Vino, bien presentado. Pero cuando comencé a comerlo, la estaca no tenía sabor y se sentía como si estuviera masticando un neumático de automóvil, las papas fritas sabían crudas y poco cocidas. Incluso la ensalada estaba seca y amarga. MALO MALO MALO.Gracias a Dios, este lugar estaba reservado en groupon por poco o nada de dinero, ya que reservé un taxi y me fui sin decir una palabra.¡EVITE ESTE LUGAR! ! ! COMIDA TERRIBLE! ! ! !

Decidí aprovechar el esquema de 'salir a comer para ayudar' aquí. Si bien el gerente del bar fue cortés y profesional, tuve que esperar casi 40 minutos por la fuente de mariscos (su artículo más caro en 15 +. Al llegar, solo puedo describir los artículos en el plato como de mala variedad congelada, fritos y rebanada de pescado porción como masa grasienta - debería haber regresado pero había esperado tanto tiempo.Mariscos; fresco o congelado de calidad no siempre va a ser genial en un pub de hotel, pero esta era una mala calidad perezosa que un cocinero de orden rápida podría haber mejorado con ingredientes razonables. Las patatas fritas eran bastante buenas, y la cerveza de barril también. ¡Qué lástima que el lugar sea mejor que este seguramente!

Por mucho que la ubicación sea hermosa, desafortunadamente el personal de servicio en el pub no lo es. Inicialmente no había estacionamiento disponible y cuando hablamos con el personal, el estacionamiento se asignaba por orden de llegada, lo que significaba que teníamos que pagar. Hubo problemas con los asientos al principio al aparecer. En relación a la comida estuvo bien. . . Sin embargo, para la comida de pub, esto podría ser mucho mejor. En cuanto al servicio de mesa, faltaba enormemente, la camarera no nos prestó ningún interés cuando nos servía la comida. Ni siquiera habló cuando dijimos gracias por la comida. A continuación, tuvimos que pedir que quitaran nuestros platos de entrada de la mesa, ya que ella se había marchado y los había dejado allí después de servir el plato principal. They took of the kids first and seemed used to that. The staff were helpful. The drinks waiters were a bit blazay but overall a good experience

Booked a table for 19th December, phoned to confirm on the night. Informed the pub was closed that night. No apology, no reason given didnt seem to care less!!! Terrible customer service.

We stayed in the hotel so had dinner here. The menu was simple and nice (find on their website) the food was good compared to some hotels! If your staying at the hotel then this is a good place to eat if you don’t want to go into town.

As someone else has mentioned we went with a groupon....Location..This pub is situated within a hotel on the westcliff in Bournemouth. The hotel (suncliff) is part of a chain of 3 hotels all next door to each other. Walking distance to Lansdowne and plenty of paid car parking about.The pub...The pub itself is not like the rest of the hotel. They have tried to give it a rustic type feel which I believe they have done. When you walk in the bar is on the right with a pool table to the left. More seating in straight ahead. The pub overlooks the coast.Drinks....Basic selection but very expensive. The pepsi was off and was charged a pint tho the Mrs only had half (which manager refunded the difference when questioned). I had a pint of cider which was about £5.50 or something.Food...Very small selection of food and there was nothing special. Definitely not a romantic setting. Seemed quite pricey for what it was.We saw a kids portion of sausage and mash come out which looked like it came out the microwave.Staff...The staff seemed to struggle with English and was asking me and another customer to constantly repeat ourself. They seemed somewhat disconnected.Overall...We did not eat there as they had live sport blaring out in the main dining hall so refunded the groupon and will not be returning.

Fui con mi esposo para una cita nocturna con un grupo: incluía mucha comida, pero creo que fue un caso de cantidad en lugar de calidad. La comida estaba bien hecha. Tenía cazadores de pollo, mi marido tenía pescado y patatas fritas, que dijo que era bueno. Los entrantes fueron probablemente mejores que los platos principales, pero creo que en general la comida era comparable en calidad a los pubs de cadena más baratos. Además, nunca nos dieron servilletas, ¡así que teníamos los dedos pegajosos después de comer los nachos!

We visited bournemouth for 4 days and looked up this pub for dinner because it was recomended to us by colleagues last year. As we were by the sea we decided to order fish and chips from the friendly barman, we ordered wine and beer too and sat at a table, plenty of choice as it was rather quiet on wednesday night. A friendly waiter served us our food and said i hope you enjoy your food. We had to search around other tables for a knife and fork and after a bit we managed to find the pepper too! The fish looked good , however the batter was a little on the soggy side, the pees were cooked perfectly but unfortunately the chips were dry, overcooked and cold. We ate most of the fish and the pees, but i just couldn`t eat any of my chips.When the waiter returned he enquired "how was your food?" I replied that the chips wer not good and that the kitchen should not have served them, he said "sorry" and removed the plates. We stayed on to finish my wine and my partner enjoyed a couple of pints while we listened to some fabolous singing wafting up from down on the next floor. We never received any feedback from the kitchen, not sure if the waiter choose not to pass on our views or the kitchen staff just din not care. ..

Stopped off here for a lunchtime drink and snack. Drinks priced reasonably, as was the food. Atmosphere lacking, and looked in need of a bit of TLC

Had a groupon deal and as we are staying at the hotel we decided to take advantage of it.2 starters, 2 mains and 2 sides. Starters we had the pate and the breaded mushrooms. Waited less than 5 minutes for it to arrive, and both starters were excellent. Decent amount too. Mains, my partner had the Angus burger-which he said was nicer than the previous nights burger from Frankie and Bennys. I had the seafood basket. Loved every mouthful. Never had whitebait before, and it was delicious! Huge portions and cooked perfectly. Would recommend a visit, even without the groupon deal it would be worth every penny.

I got to the bar and the waiter served the guy next to me that had just got here first and ignored me! Took them a year to take my order! And after asking for a drink of water 3 times they finally gave me half a glass of tap water. The food was drier than gandys flip flop !!

We had a Groupon voucher for 2 starters, 2 mains & 2 sides. For one of our sides we chose the Bread Basket and it came to the table first. The bread was absolutely lovely - plenty of it with some malted and some white - crusty, fresh and tasty. We were full of hope for the rest of the meal! My husband had seen at the bar that soup of the day was Potato and Leek, which was confirmed by the barman. When his soup came though, it was actually Cream of Tomato, but as it was delicious, that wasn't a problem. I had the Prawn Cocktail, which was a bit disappointing as the prawns were tiny and quite fishy tasting, rather than plump and juicy larger prawns. It was okay though.

Great decor and a warm welcome from our excellent server (Louie). Food was very good and menu was more than adequate. Superb location and views. Highly recommend.

never had such a disappointing night out....eaten at Suncliff before...been well satisfied...but this was dreadful. 2 starters ordered...1 arrived....had to sort 2nd one. mains arrived...mt husbands was totally wrong item...took it away...brought another wrong item...took it away...brought right item... but mainly inedible...overcooked...dry....and shrivelled. plus we had to search other tables for cutlery...and search again for napkins. it was far from busy that night...we won't be returning or recommending

We were disabled guests at the Hotel and booked a table for an evening meal in the Overcliff. Although the service was good the food was lacking in inspiration. Most of the dining tables were accessed by steps which made it difficult for our wheelchair users to access. Unless they went out of the building and accessed via the patio area outside.

Not a great start when arriving at the pub, tired from a long journey, to find the door locked. There were customers and staff inside so it was clearly open for business but I had to knock repeatedly on the window to get someone’s attention and another customer finally came and let me in.

Excellent value, tasty food. Service very good, cheerful, friendly staff too. My husband had lamb hot pot and he said best he's ever had and very plentiful.

Very poor selection of drinks. Awful decoration with large areas of wall paper showing book shelves (with book pictures on a very short repeat) and brick wallpaper. TVs degrading the place even more and were too loud. Food served in an awkward way, with dried up fish and chips in a metal basket and peas in something resembling a really tiny sauce dish. The roast was also pretty dry with watery gravy on a small plate with the vegetables on another dish which meant that getting them together was awkward. The be fair, the staff were smartly dressed and efficient but this rather odd and run down places seems as if it's trying to do the 'hipster' type thing, very cheaply and failing miserably. One of my worse dining experiences in Bournemouth and there are some pretty bad places around here!

Found this place when searching for roast dinner on a Sunday. The roast beef was amazing and the veg was so tasty. Been back a couple of times since and staff have been lovely each time. Two for one drinks and football playing makes the place faultless. Look forward to returning soon!

Fantastic place , the staff where great , food was brillant was worth every pound , thanks to Ben and Kate for making our time great , anyone looking for somewhere to stay in a group high recommend, inside pool and sauna and Overcliff pub 10/10!

So, 3 course Sunday Carvery for £12.95 sounds like a good deal. You get what you pay for here. The Carvery is in the basement Restaurant which is not particularly inviting.

My family ate here on Sunday as my son and his wife live in Bournemouth and found this little gem on Trip advisor. Three of the party had a Sunday carvery which looked delicious with lots of meat! My mum had the lamb hot pot which was served with brown crusty bread and I had the 6 oz steak which was presented beautifully. I did ask for it med rare and it was overcooked, as my son was paying I didnt like to complain and it still tasted good! The staff were helpful and pleasant.

When I have to ask twice to get forks and when it is impossible to have a talk with my wife so the live music is too loud, I cannot recommend the Overcliff Pub.

After my Train Journey down, I biked here for a Sunday Lunch around 2.45pm, was told I was just in time as the Carvery would be closing soon & re-opening later. I ordered a Carling Cider & went to plate up my dinner. There were Four meats available but went for Turkey & Lamb. There was a wide selection of veg but the yorkshire puds seemed a bit cold. The carver did put on a fair bit of meat though, much more than you'd get elsewhere. A friend suggested coming here, I just wish I'd turned up a little earlier, will do next time!

Wow! What a brilliant, friendly hotel. Its amazing that there are hotels like this which are still available at this cost. We (engaged couple) will defenitely be back

There are plenty of places in Bournemouth not trying but the Overcliff Pub here is not trying more than most. Terrible food - no love, no care but with couples of a certain age apparently oblivious to the standard of food, why should they bother?

Pleasant staff, but the main menu was restrictive and we were informed in advance that there were only a choice of two desserts available - Apple Crumble with custard or a slice of Bakewell Tart. The meal was a very good deal through the Gourmet Society offer, but if it was not for that, the cost of the meal would have been double. We had to wait sometime for my dessert to arrive, although my wife's dessert was already served. No dessert spoons, so had to use a soup spoon!

We went to this pub with a voucher from Elite Living for 2 mains, sweets & coffees.

Expensive drinks and shambolic service, a hotel bar pretending to be a pub! The promised selection of real ales consisted of a poorly served pint of Doom Bar with more head than beer and for £4.50 a pint! The bar staff begrudgingly topped it up when all the froth had subsideded leaving half an inch of empty glass handing it back to me whilst holding the glass on the rim ie where I was going to drink from - yuk! The food was adequate, the starter and mais arrived at the same time, the ordered onion rings did not arrive and the tartar sauce with the fish was absent. They ran out of cutlery and as for serviettes - who knows! The "panoramic views" consisted of a bit of sea over the top of parked cars.

Great sports bar tucked awAy in seafront hotel . Several TVs to watch sport on . Happy hour 5 to 7 . Good ale and a selection of bar food . Good atmosphere with conservatory . Efficient and very clean . Hotel prices bit not bad for location .

I had lunch at The Overcliff when I visited my Dad and sister in Bournemouth between Christmas & News Eve in 2017.

This bar is attached to Suncliff Hotel and offers normal pub service if you prefer to stay 'at home' rather than sightseeing etc. In the evening it offers alternative to Hotel entertainment if you cant get into the Hotel entertainment.

We are regular visitors to the overcliffe bar at suncliffe. This week we ordered 3 packets of standard size ready salted crisps with our drinks to find out we had been charged 1.99 per packet surely this can't be right in Bournemouth

Helpful staff. Large portions so we couldn't eat it all. Had chicken Caesar salad and a scampi so ordered garlic bread and garlic mushrooms to start. Loads if mushrooms and then Cesar salad was endless-so much chicken etc. Delicious and very good value. Went to listen to singer due later but they changed her to the hotel bar so waitress reserved us a table in the bar for after our meal etc. Would def go there again

The service is attentive but the prices of beverages are outrageous. The 'bar' type meals looked reasonable but from a very restricted menu.

I was attracted to this place by the "Panoramic Sea Views" which they claim to be "from Hengistbury Head, across the bay to Old Harry Rocks". I was hoping that this pub would be on one of the upper floors of the hotel in order to afford these views. Finding out that the pub was on a lower floor came as a slight disappointment. You can see the sea (just about - see pictures) but I was expecting better.

watched the british grand prix here lovely atmosphere great service lovely beer, we noticed on a sunday from 4 -7 they do happy hour or 3 as the case was and from 5.30 to 7 they do 2 meals for £12.00 after the grand prix which lewis won we went for a stroll down the beach and returned about 5.45 where we enjoyed the 2 for 1 on the drinks and fantastic food 2 for £12.00 we were staying at the hotel anyway so it was very very good there was an open mic for local solo singers a bit later on this to was wonderful it is open for non residents aswell highly reccomended

food was filling - and tasteful very friendly staff large restaurant lots on the menu all different.

Went for dinner here one evening (our hotel was next door). Food was plentiful and served fairly quickly. Choice of drinks in bar plentiful and staff pleasant.

Good view, good snack lunch, friendly staff and Doom Bar beer! The bar is on the front of the Suncliffe hotel and has an excellent view of the sea.

The restaurant looks like it should be good, bright with large windows and open space looking out to the sea.

Basic 'pub grub' food, nothing special. The three stars are for the very nice staff, the 241 on all drinks between 4 pm and 7 pm and the absolutely stunning views

Popped in for dinner with my wife and was delighted to discover it was both happy hour and early bird time - 2 mains for £12 and bogof of drinks! Really tasty food with huge portions, friendly staff and an excellent playlist playing over the sound system - what more could you ask for from a traditional British boozer!

Popped in for a quick drink and it happened to be "happy hour" 4pm-7pm, buy 2 drinks get the cheapest free, so stopped a bit longer and had a pleasant conversation with a transvestite. We didn't eat there, but the food looked good.

This Pub is part of the Oceana Resort. Views out to sea from its outside area are spectacular; it is also a good place to view the Bournemouth Air Show. Food is plentiful with a good variety of dishes. Choose to sit at a table or in the extremely comfortable sofas and chairs. Prices are reasonable for the area. There is a large screen TV and a pool table.

We visited the Overcliff Pub about three weeks ago on a cold, windy evening. The pub was comfortable, warm and friendly. Beef pie and drinks for two came to about £30. The real ale was well kept. We were served by Jack who was helpful, informative and chatty. Service was fast. The pub is located in the Suncliff Hotel which is a 15 minute walk from the centre of Bournemouth and overlooks the sea. It was well worth the walk from the centre. There is plenty of parking available in the vicinity even on a busy evening.

Booked dinner via table pounced at this restaurant. Never been here before. Ordered starter, main & sweet. Vegetable samosas & soup the day were home cooked & very nice. Ham egg & chips & chicken burger were cooked to perfection with enough chips for about 4 people. Sweets, berry pavlova & seasonal berry crumble with custard home made also very nice. All in all food & service was fantastic, came away very full & satisfied & all food & 2 drinks for £22.80, bargain. Will definitely visit again very soon. Thank you

We ate here and had the earlybird special which is 2 meals for £12 (up to 6.30) also drinks happy hour, we also had a starter each and thought they were very reasonably priced. The food was very good with generous portions and the waiter was very good (don't know name sorry but he had a beard!). We were staying in the hotel next door but it was definitely cheaper to eat here and the food was more to our liking. Will definitely visit again when next in Bournemouth.

We ate in here and the food was great, priced reasonably. 2 hour happy hour is a bonus too! Pool table, TV's playing sport/news nice friendly atmosphere

Great fish and chips. Arrived quickly and wasn't expensive. Sam was funny! Also happy hour from 17.00 - 19.00 did the job quite well

Husband and I went for lunch here rather than go to the carvery downstairs as we wanted to be a bit more casual and it was nice to be able to look out to sea. It was quiet when we walked in, only a few people about but more came in later. I ordered the roast beef and other half had the ham, egg and chips. Didn't have to wait too long until we were presented with 2 enormous plates of food, my beef was very good, there were also all the usual roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, parsnips, a separate dish of vegetables which would be enough for 2 or 3 people, stuffing and mini sausages and a jug of gravy. My husband had a thick gammon steak, 2 perfectly cooked eggs and a mound of chips. Neither of us could finish our meal and had no room for pudding. Based on the quality of the food and the nice view I'm sure we will visit again before the summer season starts.

My husband and I went to dinner with a Tablepouncer voucher for 2-4-1 Mains. My husband ordered the burger and I had ordered the Steak and Ale pie, after not too long our food came and surprise... my pie wasactually butternut squash and spinach. We sent my plate back and asked for a burger instead and a manager came after a while to say it would 5 mins. My husband ate all of his burger (thought it wasnt great but ate because was hungry) and my food took forever to come and when it did the burger was so tough and tasteless I felt like leaving straight away. We told the manager at the end who was very apologetic and explain neither the head chef nor the sous were working that night. He offered us a free meal if we came back at another night when one those chefs would be working but to be honest once is enough if you get bad food someplace.

We ate in here on Friday evening. Took ages to be served at the bar as only one barman on duty. Ordered food which seemed to take forever to come out and when it did most of it was cold. Not overly impressed at all.

I had a chicken burger. I think the chicken breast was deep fried, very rubbery & extremely salty. My friend had pie & chips which she said was lovely. Great staff & cheap food.

12.10.16 Had soup of the day which was tasty but luke warm. Followed by what I can only describe as a bought in cheap steak and ale pie with chips / pies. It came with no gravy or sauce. Asked the waiter for some brown sauce. He looked at me as If He had never heard of it. Went away and came back with Salad Cream. I again asked for brown sauce and he replied we do not have that!!!!!!

Excellent and attentive service, short waiting time even on happy hours. Good prices and also amazing steak burger. 100% recommendation for stag party. Thanks!

We have been a few times now to The Overcliff and highly recommend the fizz and chips on a Friday. £9.95 plus free live music every week. Welcoming staff and great location of the Solent. A fun and friendly place.

I understand it was Air Show weekend, but when arrived no tables had been cleared , Menu had no food selection. Female staff stroppy. Jeremy, the waiter, was brilliant, very apologetic, and helpful.

We ate here while staying next-door at the excellent sister hotel The Cumberland. The place is lovely & light and we had high hopes of good pub grub, as the prices were very reasonable. Unfortunately, although the staff were very friendly, they were also inexperienced (or seemed it, anyway). We waited well over 45 minutes for anything to arrive, which was especially bad as we were with a child. Most of what we ordered was nice enough when it came (haddock fishcakes, whitebait) but the steak&kidney; pie was bog-standard and the soup of the day not only not as ordered, but tasteless & inedible. Soup was refunded without problems, but the overall experience wasn't one we wanted to repeat. A pity!

Popped in on a sunny afternoon, the girl behind the bar had at best a poor command of English, her attitude was bordering on surly and her product knowledge was dire, We debated as to whether to get a snack but decided against when we saw a considerable number of dirty plates covered in half eaten greasy food lying attracting flies on the "veranda".

Limited menu but food is cooked fresh to order so forgive the wait time however restaurant was very empty, at busy times I guess you will have a very long wait. Restaurant was a bit cheap and cheerful in terms of decoration and waiting staff a bit amateurish but all in all was fair.

This is a bit refreshing as most of the hotel bars serve cocktails and simple lagers, this served cask ales - from the Sharps brewery. The food was not expensive, and nice and simple - ham, egg and chips with a tasty chutney, or Scampi and Chips. Staff seemed a little rushed though it didn't appear that busy.

We know this hotel very well and like others were wary when they changed things to create this "pub" well there are some pluses the drinks and food standards are more than acceptable; however the staff let it down, when we visited there was a female bar person with long loose hair and poor command of English. There was also a male bar person who studiously ignored customers and when a fellow customer was served by him it was to a VERY poor standard. Please correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression that long hair should be tied back when serving food or drinks.

Nice pub grub. Before 6:30 pm its 2 for 1 on meals and drinks, so great value for money. Good pub quiz too!

We are here on a Thursday June 16. The food is normal pub food, good value, good portion size & fast service. On a Thursday they do a quiz night as well which is very good. This is the 2nd time we have been on a Thursday and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves both times. Well worth a visit

Can be noisy near the bar but there are quiet areas and outside seating. Sea view. Staff friendly and efficient, food good with ample portions. Not expensive and plenty of choice

Found by chance during a stroll along the East Cliff. Food was very good, looked and tasted good. Drinks were served quickly and well. The one thing that prevented us from giving this review an excellent was the bar person whose hair was below shoulder length, loose and dangling into everything; very unhygenic

The food on offer is yummy! The staff is very kind and helpful! But not much on the menu! But will come back!

Was surprised how friendly and helpful all the staff in the hotel were. The room was very clean and the servicing of the room was excellent. Food in the pub bar was good if a bit bland for my taste. All in all very, very good.

We are regular visitors to this restaurant and have never been disappointed with either the food or the service. A major advantage is the buildings position at the top of a low cliff which overlooks the sea and the Isle of Wight ( including the Needles )

Was not keen on this alteration at first but it has grown on me especially 2 sports channels & happy hour

We went to the Overcliff Pub for a roast dinner yesterday lunch time. The bar tender was lovely but the food was 80% cooked from frozen, aunt bessies to be precise. It is part of the Suncliff Hotel, it was clearly frozen naff hotel food, they went next door to get the food and it was barely warm on arrival. We had Roast Lamb and Turkey - they dont have mint sauce or cranberry sauce which is a basic fail, wasnt that they had run out, they just dont have any on the premises. The plates then sat in front of us for a further 30 minutes after we had finished before we got up and left. a Male bar tender was lovely but other staff werent very helpful and i would certainly not eat here again. Alright for a drink in the summer but that's all.

I had booked a single room to retire to after a Christmas party at the hotel and some drinks out in Bournemouth. I have to sat that I was not disappointed with the quality of either the food or the room

Stayed B&B; in suncliff hotel, had evening meal here. Very good restaurant standard and desserts to die for.

We recently ate here when stayed at The Suncliff. The food was gorgeous and the staff were very helpful. Would visit again if ever in Bournemouth on another occasion.

We live fairly locally and have attended to support a general knowledge quiz on a regular basis.

We were staying at the Hotel and had arrived too early before checking in so we decided to have lunch in the bar. We expected the food to be mediocre but it exceeded our expectations and was excellent value. I had the fish and chips and my husband had bangers and mash. The service was also very good. The décor was a little tired which gave the impression that the food would be below average.
