We called in here on our last visit to Peebles. A dog friendly cafeteria, it has indoor and outdoor seating and is accessed via an alleyway from the Main Street. I’ve not had a vegan scone for ages and this one was lovely, very tasty. The coffee is delicious too and the dog enjoyed her sausage. A regular spot now on our trips to Peebles.

One of the family said the Latte was one of the best they had had. It was a good size too. Reasonably good sized menu for lunchtime. Cakes and scones looked great but we chose somewhere else for cake. The coronation chicken jacket potato, £8, tasted good but not what we are used to for coronation chicken. Unfortunately some of the chicken was a bit tough but my knashers never give up. A bit more of the sauce would be nice too. This place is cash only so be aware before you turn up. I never carry cash so it worked to my advantage, the missus had to pay. I would rate this place 3.5 stars on this visit but I think we were just unlucky.

Found this place by accident. Walking along and the rain started and saw the sign so it was as if it was a sign to visit. It isn't a very big place but the warm and friendly welcome and efficient service was just the start. Sat down and browsed the menu. Had the macaroni cheese and it was amazing. The mocha was fantastic probably the best one I have ever had and the gingerbread was moist and very moreish> The soup looked really appetising so next visit I will probably have.

Used to really like this cafe. However recently the fruit scones have been burnt and really disappointing with hard raisins and the bottom of the scones black and inedible. The cream is also too thick and quite hard. The baked potatoes are dry and the lattes are just hot milk. It has also become a “dog friendly” cafe but is much too small to accommodate dogs comfortably. My friend (who is allergic) had a dog sniffing around her ankles. Also wet smelly dogs put you off your food. Finally, why do they only accept cash and no cards (a tax dodge?).

Really disappointed. Ordered a baked potato when it came it was very dry, tuna had no mayonnaise so was dry. Ciabatta fillings were sparse. Asked for tea to come with meal told that’s fine then waitress brought straight to table and food 10 minutes later so it was cold. Cost £30 for the pleasure of poor food and cold tea. Won’t be back

Tempting to say this is a hidden gem, but given how busy it was today it’s clearly a really popular cafe for locals and visitors alike. Traditional cafe, affordably priced, great home cooking, lovely staff and oh those cakes! It’s a good sign when people are happy to brave outdoor tables in November, and now I understand why! Be prepared to wait for a table Saturday lunchtime but worth it.

It was our last day in Scotland, and my husband and I wanted one last Cream Tea, so I looked online and found The Oven Door on main street in Peebles. We were close by, so it was no bother to park in the town's free parking lot and cross the river to Main Street. We were very excited to see home made fruit scones, so we ordered our Cream Tea to enjoy on the outside terrace that is off the main street. The scones were fabulous and came with fresh cream and a vial of fresh clotted cream. Combined with the excellent pot of tea, it made for a delightful treat. My husband was certain to tell the owner how much we enjoyed our treat, and she came out to talk to us for a bit. We certainly hope to get back sometime in the future when we can taste one of the treacle scones that she makes weekly. Make the effort to seek this place out. You won't regret it!

Was really disappointed in this place. Lovely surrounding warm and welcoming. Ordered the soup of the day and crusty bread. Husband couldn't eat his and said it tasted really weird like something he had never had before. I have lost my smell and taste due to covid last year so I was no help as to what the taste was. He sent it back after 2 spoons and when going to pay they were looking for half the cost of his rotten soup! Unbelievable! We are not fussy eaters and eat out alot and never complain.

We were killing time in Peebles prior to booking into our hotel accommodatioon at the appointed time. After a while in need of refreshment we came across The Oven Door and went in for coffee and cake. There was an exceedingly good range of cakes, pastries and scones to choose from and our selection was brought quickly to our table along with our coffee. It was all very good. Our choice of table brought us very close to the reason the restaurant is named as it is. In a recess in the wall was a very old oven door along with a sign that gives a very good reason for eating cake. Someone associated with the business obviously has a good sense of humour!

Whenever we come to Peebles for a walk we visit this coffee shop and have never been disappointed. The scones are fresh each day and are really yummy. The staff are always so pleasant. Yes, you have to pay cash - but is that really a big deal? There are banks with ATMs in the High Street nearby. The place is always busy so we are not the only ones who really like to eat here.

Popped in for a light lunch didnt eat here though because they do not accept card payment. As we are becoming increasingly a cashless society I think this owner needs to move with the times. Cashless payment options don't need to cost much and are easy to manage as well a being convenient for customers who don't want to pop off find a cash machine and return.

This is the type of cafe you’d expect to find in the 70’s and 80’s. Completely bog standard and basic food to the level of embarrassing. I didn’t have cake but they at least looked half decent and home baked. There are much better options in Peebles, owner should try them in order to experience today’s standards.

Located down a close opposite the Tourist Information Office on the High Street where there is a courtyard with outdoor seating if the weather is favourable or a very compact tearoom if it's not. (The name of the cafe relates to the old oven door on the wall inside which nowadays is a decorative feature). We had to wait a while for a table to become free inside as it was busy and there are a limited number of covers however it was worth it. The menu includes soup, open sandwiches, toasties, paninis and croissants with a variety of fillings and some "specials" on the blackboard such as macaroni cheese so it's suitable for a light lunch which is what were seeking. Large selection of cakes on display and scones with cream & jam to accompany tea or coffee. My wife ordered a toastie whilst I had their smoked salmon & cream cheese croissant - both served with some crisps, coleslaw and a salad garnish (approx. £6 each). The food was delicious as was the coffee - a large Americano and a large Flat White. We had taken the opportunity to survey the cakes whilst we waited for a table earlier and opted for a white & milk chocolate cheesecake and a very large portion of carrot cake both of which were moist and tasty. We each added a small cup of coffee to accompany the cakes. Both of us felt quite full by the time we had finished our lunch. There is a single unisex toilet at either end of the cafe and in our experience it was well maintained.Staff were efficient and courteous. No card payments are accepted - cash only - and our bill was around £29 for two.

I had only opted in for a cup of tea but could not resist a (very) generous slice of cake. It was delicious- the difficult part was choosing one! If I’d been with my friend we could have shared two different cakes. It was close to closing time but there was no sense of being rushed. Toilet was very clean and has interesting wallpaper. My husband and I stopped here for some lunch whilst visiting Peebles. The menu has a variety of choices and there was a beautiful selection of homemade cakes. The food itself (I had a toastie and my husband had an open sandwich) was a bit expensive. It was tasty but not quite worth the £6 I paid for just the toastie. Unfortunately ,y hot chocolate was cold and had a lump of unmixed chocolate powder at the bottom of the mug. The service of the food was quick but I feel that the staff could do a little bit more to be welcoming and friendly. Overall I still have the opinion that it's better to support the independent cafe over chain cafes.

Popped into this place on Monday (19 June) on our way home from Melrose to Glasgow (4 of us). As it was sunny we sat in the small courtyard which was lovely. We ordered lentil soup for one and coffees and cake/scone for the others. The soup wasn't a big portion and I don't think it had been seasoned at all, had to add loads of salt and pepper to get any flavour. The two white coffees and one black came - all black filtered (I think) with a jug of milk. My mother said the gingerbread was delicious, husband said the carrot cake was OK. My brother had ordered the scone with jam and clotted cream. He said the scone was good but the clotted cream came - on a small teaspoon - such a stingy measure it was laughable. I asked if we could have another portion of clotted cream and the young man took the teaspoon from the plate and brought it back with what like the scrapings from the bottom of a carton which barely covered the tip of the teaspoon. Absolutely miserly - poor show.

This is a cute, friendly tea room. I went in not expecting much but was delighted by our warm welcome the nice food and the sense of hospitality. Sure, I've had better food but the cakes were delicious and the service could not have been better. I sat under the clock next to the door that goes to the loo, it was fine there was plenty of room to get through and it didn't affect our meal at all. Also, it was fairly full and everyone was delighted. There are a few unfair reviews here which should be ignored. Thank you to the ladies that served us and mad our day with their kindness

Sadly now seem to be closed. Unfortunately the Main Street of Jedburgh offers nothing in the way of dog friendly cafes... the only town in our trip across central Scotland to have that issue.

Didn't have food but enjoyed a few drinks, good service recommended for some relax time.

Inflexible rules on Gift Vouchers. The GM, Kevan Potter refused to extend our 7- month out of date GV for its mere £50 value; we had proposed to spend a significant amount more on a two night D, B & B stay. As a result, we’ll avoid this Hotel and spend our money at a more empathetic venue. We’ve lost our £50 but what’s the “cost” to your establishment? Short sighted attitude.
