The Osprey is a family-friendly pub just off the M 77 motorway. Every time we visit we enjoy the atmosphere and the food. We enjoy sitting outside when we get the chance with Scottish weather. Inside is a little dark but there are plenty of different little areas to sit so you don't realise you are in a busy pub.The food is simple but good and the service is always good. You do have to wait sometimes if they are busy but that is understandable. Keep up the good work Osprey.

love coming to the osprey, but noticed the menu has changed and both my favourite dishes have been taken away or changed. The beer battered mushrooms to start have been taken away, so tried the mushrooms with garlic and cheddar instead and they were nice but I'm not the biggest fan of cheese. Also the gammon steak appeared to be missing so I was kinda sad at this, had the fish instead which was nice, last thing was they no longer do onion rings, instead an onion fritter or something?? overall it was nice as always just a bit disappointed at these changes

staying locally, & knowing this chain from both sides of the border, for an evening meal, decided to give their Sunday roast sharing platter a try - disappointing, but maybe kitchen was running out of steam after a busy service, but very quiet when we arrived, and stayed so. 2 platters arrived (with not a huge amount of protein on sight), then we waited for the final (lamb roast) meal which duly arrived; meantime platters and plates all cooling but no sign of vegetables, which were then rustled up.... all a bit hit & miss. Should have gone for the standard menu, on reflection. I'm sure they can do better. :(

I visited The Osprey with my wife for some lunch and we were very disappointed. We entered into the picturesque venue and sat in a very nice little seat in the corner. The first sign of the downward spiral was the waitresses. Not one of them managed to smile. It's not a big ask to be welcoming when you work in the service industry. I ordered the fish finger sandwich and my wife ordered the chicken and bacon sandwich both with triple cooked chips. When the meals arrived, my wife's had a side salad instead of the chips so the waitress simply said, I will fix it!" No apology offered. The chips took an eternity to come and when they did they were insipid and soggy. On to the sandwiches. My fish finger was a let down. Firstly, there was only two small pieces of battered greasy fish and was really quite tasteless. My wife asked for her bacon to be crispy on hers. Which it was. Unfortunately they must have left the chicken in for the same amount of time as it was dry, tough and stringy. The last straw was that at no time from us asking for the bill and paying, none of the three waitresses that we interacted with asked us if everything was ok. Again, not much to ask from restaurant floor staff. On the plus side, the pate was tasty. (More bread was also brought quickly when we asked for it). Lastly, if the management could teach the staff their level of customer service this place would be incredible. After taking the survey that was emailed to me, a prompt reply was received and a voucher was offered. This was greatly appreciated. Well done Osprey management!! Your staff should take a leaf out of your book!!

Visited the place for the first time at about 3pm today. Cosy surroundings on a cold, damp day but good outdoor facilities too so would enjoy coming back if the good weather returns!Polite, friendly waitress. Very relaxed atmosphere but it was quiet at this time and I'm sure it must get a lot more hectic at peak times.Food was of a very good standard - I had the chicken pie which was delicious, although I'd maybe swap the mash for chips next time. The vegetables served with it were very tasty. Husband had fish and chips and was very happy with that too. My only complaint was when I visited the bathroom there was no toilet roll (only noticed post pee-pee) - good job I carry tissues in my handbag!!Hopefully that was a one off overlook and will definitely be back to sample more of the menu!

The osprey has kept a lot of the original features and feels very countrified. Food is good and reasonably priced, staff are always on hand and given the spaciousness of the place I've always been able to be seated without prebooking. Have been coming here for about 15 years as I live down the road, always get chicken pie that comes with peas and skinny(ish) fries - don't even check the menu anymore as i always order it, it's always been the same and always brilliant. This time it came with a dollop of nuclear hot microwaved mashed potatoes and a pile of cold rubbery vegetables? The pie was still good but the waitress had the worst attitude and was so grumpy. Didn't ask us how food was, which was mainly left on my plate, 'do yous want desserts?' was all we got. Then had to ask for the bill which she chucked at the table without a word. Didn't come back to collect money so after a while went up and paid a different waiter at the bar. It was really quiet as well which is strange. Won't be back for a while and hopefully menu is changed back by then.

Since Diane took over as Manager, this pub has come on leaps and bounds. We are local regulars and before it used to be a cold, draughty place and the meals were very much hit or miss, usually miss! Now it is a very warm and cosy country pub, especially with the open fires on, and the food and choices are very good. The past few times we've been recently we have not been disappointed. It's nice to have a specials menu in addition to the normal menu (they didn't always have this before). Last weekend I had the lamb shank special with mash (real mash!) and veg and my husband had the stuffed pork special, great, both our plates were clean! The food has improved greatly to what it was before Diane came on board; you can tell when it’s freshly cooked as opposed to packet microwave stuff! Diane also works very hard and genuinely cares to make sure you have enjoyed your meal and visit. In fact all the staff are very attentive, great service! See you next time!

I wouldn't normally review a restaurant again so soon after visiting previously but wanted to balance up a couple of poor reviews I saw recently on trip advisor. The Osprey is not somewhere you would go if you were looking for 'fine dining' but what you see is what you get.It is a loveley Inn situated just seconds off the southbound M77 on the south extremities of Glasgow. You always get a warm welcome and get well looked afterin pleasent, clean surroundings, with good wholesome food at a good price. On the latest visit, my wife, daughter and I went in for a late lunch/early dinner on Easter Monday. The restaurant was very busy and I must say initially I was a bit concerned as we were seated next to a large table celebrating a baby's 1st birthday. In all there were 4 babies at the table and I expected the service to be slow and the babies to be irritating, but not so. Firstly to the parents of the children, their behaviour was impecable, not a peep out of any of them. Now to the staff. We were shown to our seat by the owner who looked a bit harrased but nevertheless made us feel very welcome and quickly had a table ready for us.Thereafter we were tended by her daughter Ashleigh who couldn't have done more to make sure that all our needs were tended to. (You have a star there mum!)Whilst waiting on our food, the place was nice and warm and the atmosphere as always was a nice buzz, not too loud or rowdy but not that horrible awkward silence you can get some places and feel that you need to whisper. We hadn't too long to wait on our food and when it arrived It was perfect. Correct order received for everyone, piping hot and very flavoursome. The portions are always good sized at The Osprey which suits me down to a 'T'.On this occasion, after the main course was welcomingly devoured, my wife and I decided to order a dessert. What is great on the menu is that if you want a sweet but aren't too hungry, you can have a mini sweet with a coffee for only £4.50.My wife plumped for this option with a 'still' good sized Berry Mess and Cappuccino and I went for the full sized sherry trifle, which should be re-named FOOL sized, man, what a portion, but it was fantastic and just slid down.A perferct end to a perfect meal in what turned out to be a perfect day.Well down everyone at the Osprey! We will be back and have already recommended it to friends.

We, a family group of four, had an evening meal in late January of this year. We ordered drinks, which had not yet arrived by the time the food was served. I asked for house red : it was sent back and another of the same produced which was equally unacceptable.(I am usually reasonably satisfied with the house red of a restaurant.) I then asked for a glass of Viognier Sauvignon(?) which was £7.50 per glass - oh, dear! (My family had a taste of each of the wines and agreed with me.) My main course was awful, a Merlot Pie which tasted strongly of chickory. The table was so dimly lit that it was difficult to see what I was eating, My brother had cod which was a strange grey colour, and didn't complain as we had already sent the wine back three times. The staff were friendly and helpful, though not very efficient. We will not be back.

My husband and I decided to eat out. We chose They Osprey near to our home phoning first to check if they had gluten free options on the menu. We were pleased to find there was a completely separate menu with gluten free options.Although there were a good selection of options I chose the steak. my husband also chose the steak both from our separate menus. I highlighted to the girl serving us that I was ordering the gluten free option. To my disappointment my steak arrived with onion rings and so I pointed out to her a mistake had been made. She adamantly assured me I was wrong. When I pointed out the gluten free option didn't have onion rings due to the flour coating she said she would remove them from my plate. I pointed out to her as I was coeliac that this was not an option I would need to have a new dinner to stop contamination making me ill. She retunred by which time my husband had finished his meal. Going out for joint meal this is not ideal. I began to eat my meal and within a short time felt my chest closing in and my breathing becoming laboured (the first signs of ingesting gluten. I asked the girl if she had removed the onion rings and she assured me it was a completely new meal. I feel it is one thing to make a mistake but to then be lied to knowing I was taking unwell due to her lie was disappointing to say the least. We also ate separately, no what we had planned. The girl seemed oblivious to what she had did and so I will not be returning to the Osprey. I was ill for 3 days after my visit due to the ignorance of the girl who served us. Unacceptable when they have a specific gluten free menu so they must have a need and understanding of a gluten free choice.

The service, which is normally not too bad here, was sadly just dreadful on our last visit for the Festive menu. The food was ok, very good soup, average turkey. However the delays in service, plus giving us another table's food then the huge delay between courses was bordering on farcical. Sorry to say that the food and service has not improved since our last visit.I ordered the languistines and mussel crumb coated starter which came overcooked and hard to eat.My main course of lamb shank was ok except for the roast potatoes which were like rubber on the outside and the vegetables which were overcooked. My wife asked if they did a main portion of my starter and was told yes so this was her order but there was only a starter portion which came as amain course although as it was as per my experience she was glad. It does not seem like there is a chef in house more like pre prepared meals which are reheated as requested. My grandson made a simple request to change potatoes to chips and we were informed that it could only be accommodated if he did not want vegetables. He ordered the chocolate torte and when it came it was obvious that it was just out of the freezer as it was very difficult to break up to eat. If you are looking for really well priced pub grub you will go a long way before you get a place that beats the Osprey. OK the new drink driving limits have clearly had an impact on this place and many others in the area and we now simply have soft drinks or on occasion take a long walk to eat here. It is worth a visit, the menu changes enough to offer a range of dishes but all the old favourites remain - fish & chips, gammon steak, pies and a few speciality ones as well. Requests were readily and speedily met. Very close to an M77 exit but not if you are heading South towards Ayr you have to go back up into Newton Mearns. We have been to the Osprey many times, its almost our local. The managemnet and some staff have changed, but the problems remain. On the plus side, there have been improvements to the outside areas with the gardens having been tidied up, new furniture purchased and flowering plants on the tables. The food service has also improved, slightly. But, none of this can hide the fact that there's a lack of staff training and attention to detail, which continues to detract from the overall experience. Our most recent visit was September 18th. Usual problems, 2 staff behind the bar, chatting about anything other than work, bar top swimming in spilled beer, yet no one makes any attempt to wipe it up, so if you lean on the bar you get soaked. We sat in one area where there are 5 tables. 4 of the 5 had dirty glassware or dishes on them, another couple came in and sat at one particular table, and had to push aside all the used glassware etc so they could enjoy their beer and wine, on at least 3 occasions a waitress passed by with food, yet at no time did she or anyone from the bar area make any attempt to pick anything up. This is normal for the osprey, and its sad, because it could be a lovely suburban pub/restaurant.Food is average to good, although the portion size on the sunday roasts has gradually decreased over the last year or two, but there's usually 2 or 3 craft ales to choose from, as well as a decent, but overpriced selection of wines.Overall my rating is average, but the service in the seating areas around the bar areas is awful. If you visit, be prepared to get wet if ordering at the bar, and bring a cloth, spray bottle and tray to clean your table !

Visited here recently with family members. Really good meal-waiting staff were attentive and food delivery was quick but not rushed. Restaurant was reasonably quiet when we went in but number of people sitting outside in the garden.Crumble for desert was excellent-could have done with just a bit more custard to go alongside it!

I have been here on many occasions and I have found it to be (in the main) cosy but spacious, and a great place to socialise. The food is very good and the choice of drinks are extensive. The staff are attentive but not intrusive. Loretta is a wonderful waitress who is always on the ball and keeps the service at top quality level.A great place!

Visited here for lunch due to being dog friendly outdoors. On entering building waiting staff seemed busy/flustered and inattentive. Order soup, bar staff (where you must order of seated outdoors ) had no idea what the soup was. Order and served promptly to point soup barely warm, minimal soup in bowl, less than a quarter of a small roll to accompany soup with enough butter for 10 portions! Not worth the money for poor service and less than average food!

This was my first visit to the Osprey though family members who live close by do use the establishment on a regular basis.First impressions was one of “this could do with a little tarting up” It is part of the Vintage Inns group and I wonder if the vintage look is exactly what they are trying to achieve. Table and chairs for dining where adequate but not particularly comfortable.Service was OK – There were plenty of waiting staff and the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy therefore it could have been a little better than it was.The menu was quite nice – A lot of the basic foodstuffs you would see in this style of restaurant but a few different choices with some lovely sounding ingredients placed it a little above your average pub menu. My wife and I were looking for something quite basic as we had a party to attend later that evening and we both opted for Local fish of the day (battered fish and chips). Very tasty and with a nice selection of drinks (albeit a little on the pricey side) rounded up a nice but uninspiring meal.If you just want some nice food in decent surroundings then there is not a lot wrong with this establishment. For a special occasion I would look elsewhere.

Bar service very good but the bar tender lacked experience regarding wine. This is pub food so keeping this in mind I have reviewed as such. Service was prompt and personable. The food was very nice and the temperature of the food was perfect. I would certainly revisit .

Visited with my wife , a 9 year old and a16 year. Had made a booking and when we arrived we were ushered to our table.Although the restaurant was quite busy I felt the staff were attentive and dealt with us well.food was very good and good sized portions. We had a 25% voucher of food so this turned out to be really good value.Would definitely go back again.

Having frequented the Osprey for many years and always enjoyed an excellent pub meal, I was very disappointed to find a steady overall decline in number of staff and quality of food served. I had a very poor lunch a few months ago but thought I would give it another go when down in the area. Sadly things had not improved. My friend and I ordered fish cakes in prawn sauce - no sauce and 4 miniscule prawns, overcooked potatoes & lettuce leaves swamped in a watery dressing. We had ordered drinks which turned up 30 .mins after ordering. Would we return ? Only for a drink (great variety of ale) and a packet of crisps!

Went for a family lunch at The Osprey, Newton Mearns. The staff were very nice and helpful. Two of the family had haddock and chips which they said was lovely. I had some very unusual ( weird) soup - carrot and orange!! The place was ok, but a bit on the dark side - which was a bit off putting during the day. I don't live in the area, so it's unlikely we'll be back. To sum it up - very nice staff - nice fish - excellent chips - weird soup - place too dark during the day (it may be alright at night). I wonder if they're saving money on electricity ? Prices were acceptable.

Came here with family who'd travelled down from Inverness and had the Sunday lunch. Was seated almost immediately by friendly and polite staff who did all they could to make our experience there pleasant. We got our starters quickly and they were lovely then we got a few of the roasts. The beef i will admit did barely contain any edible meat but once i brought it to the attention of a waitress she sorted it immediately and gave me another portion of beef that was lovely, i obviously just got a bad one. A lot of negative comments on here but i never experience and negativity there, lovely pleasant place with good food and nice staff. I would go again!

We have eaten in many Vintage restaurants and had great meals. This was certainly the exception. Staff were bored, waited ages for both our starter and then mains and when it arrived it was just warm, and in the case of my wife's chicken and leek pie, where was the leek? The pastry topping was thick and had a very soggy bottom. I have reviewed many places I have eaten in and stayed at but this was the worst by a long way. I don't take great delight in posting negative comments but felt the restaurant needs to know so that they can take corrective action. Did I complain in the restaurant? No. Why? Because the staff wouldn't have been interested.

While this is still part of a chain, The Osprey has managed to maintain a bit of the independent pub feel. It's large and has a huge outdoor area for the good weather; just such a pity that the surrounding area is becoming more urbanised and you no longer look over the fields but a retail park and some retirement flats under construction. However, the food is good and it's a welcome change from the usual franchises of Beefeater and such like.

Meeting up with family & fancied a change from the nearby Beefeater so decided to try The Osprey. I am glad I decided to ignore the mixed reviews on here as we found the staff friendly, approachable & helpful. Menu had a good variety of choice at reasonable prices. Happy with the short length of time taken for food to arrive & relaxing atmosphere with no hassle for bill to be paid or table to be given back made this a great venue to relax, chat & catch up. Happy to go back again to this easy, laid back venue, thank you

Had an evening meal here with my wife and another couple who had recommended this restaurant to us. The food was okay, the service was okay but a bit slow, the ambience was okay, the décor was a bit dark and drab which didn't help. Nothing really to set the heather alight. Our friends said it was normally better than that but, on this showing, the word has to be "it was just okay".Maybe we will try it again if we are in the area but, then again, maybe not.

Busy night at this restaurant. Prawn cocktail started okay but mainly lettuce bit mean with the prawns. Main course of fillet steak excellent asked for medium rare and that's what I got. Didn't have wine we asked for from the drinks list. Service was good staff friendly. Finished with the peach melba brulee unfortunately this was a bit curdled and wasn't great. For a Saturday night the place emptied pretty much by 10pm which surprised me.

Lunch this week with a friend. Poor management of tap beers. But the piece de la resistance was the food and service.Kitchen forgot our orders for the starter. Bad enough but the main course was overcooked and barely edible. Complained on exit and offered 20per cent discount.Used to really like this place as our local but it has deteriorated to the point that we shall not trouble it with our presence again.Pity because decent watering holes in Newton Mearns are as scarce as hen's teeth. But in this case the well has metaphorically run dry.

Popped into the osprey for some lunch with my son today and was so glad we did. Staff were amazing, friendly chatty and always smiling! The food was great, huge varied choice and big portions despite us ordering just from the lunch and kids section and it was lovely and fresh well above the usual standard pub grub. We will defo be back and would recommend this place to anyone. If you are debating between here and the beefeater next door there really is no choice the standard is far Superior here in food, staff and choice.

Went with 4 family members for Sunday lunch and place half full. Had starters and were ok. Realised that others who arrived after us were almost finished their meal and we still had not been served.our main course. Waiter ,doing his best, arrived to state that there had been a glitch in the computer system and our meals were now being prepared. This arrived about an hour after our starters. Food was not good. It is an achievement to slice roast beef so thinly and yet be so tough. Roast potatoes had been left for so long in hot tray they almost required a saw to cut ,reminded me of bad canteen food. The gristly merlot beef pie had very strange tasting gravy. The veggie burger was reported as good. We were considering sweet or coffee but we now found ourselves abandoned. We left the table still full of plates and went to the bar to find someone to pay. Unsurprisingly at no time did anyone ask us if we enjoyed our meal. In their favour they did give us a complimentary round of soft drinks to keep us going at one point.but it would take vast improvement in management and quality of food for us to return.

We booked our table for 1:15 and despite the fact that we were all there for that time it took nearly 30 mins to get a drink to the table and an hour before we had our meals. Some of the staff were very nice whilst others were abrupt. The food was mediocre and some of the dessert portion sizes abysmal. I wrote to the restaurant prior to writing this review about my experience but received no reply. Just give it a miss.

After not visiting the osprey for some time due to the last visit being bad, we decided to give it a try again.....what a mistake....the food was cold, dried out, very small portion sizes, not offered condiments, i could write more but will leave it at that - i reckon it will be several years before we visit again for food which is sad as it USED to be really good and it is very nearby for us£10.99 for cold dry hard fish with stange batter which is now less than half the size it used to be and around 10 chips and cold mushy peas, no tartar sauce offered or other condiments DISASTEROUS

Staff were really nice and the pub itself was very nice, very clean, nice atmosphere but the food was terrible. My better half ate a chip and I managed a little more of mine but it was not at all good. Waitress we got even said that a lot of people had said the same as us.Shame as its a lovely pub, just needs decent cook, sorry.

Middle aged grumpy waitress who had the cheek to show displeasure at a one, three and five year old becoming restless after a wait of hour and twenty minutes for food to be served. No one in our party had complained about the wait it had been a relatively relaxing afternoon until her behaviour became more and more obvious She went to great lengths to let her annoyance be known, regarding the children like aliens and making our large party feel hugely uncomfortable. This establishment professes to be be family friendly this waitress was certainly not. I will not be returning and I will strongly advise friends with children and grandchildren to go elsewhere. My only regret is that I did not confront her there and then but did not want to futher upset our family lunch and add to the uncomfortable atmosphere she had created. Hugely disappointing !

We had a brilliant experience for our daughters 21st. A wee delay with the starters but there were a lot of us and we were in no hurry! Felt relaxed and looked after. We had our silver wedding in November last year in another local venue and you absolutely blew it out the water. We had actually planned to have our daughters party in the other venue but they were booked- thank goodness! Thanks to the team for the additions to the menu and making sure we all had drinks etc. Well done!

Expecting plain pub grub, we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here. It has traditional items, but even those are well-cooked, sometimes with less usual ingredients. We had mushrooms in cream and battered langoustines & mussels; both very nice. The sea bass was flavoursome, served with Mediterranean vegetables, and stuff pork belly with black pudding. Requests were readily and speedily met. Very close to an M77 exit. The hum of traffic heard outside was not apparent inside. Service was welcoming and friendly and attentive. Will be very happy to go back.

This local Vintage Inn delights in attracting customers from the locality and further away. Based on good pub service and an attractive range of varied food, we were well impressed by their offer in early April.First and foremost congrats to a very hard working Loreta, our waitress, on managing a number of tables and our party which numbered seven. She was extremely good at her job and nothing seemed to be too much trouble, despite several conflicting demands for her attention.Secondly after the delicious meal, we were invited to take part in an extremely entertaining 'silent pub quiz', which was a great round off to a lovely evening.Suffice to say we will most certainly be back, and I would imagine as Vintage Inn's management may well wish this sort of feedback, say that the quality input of their staff, is principally the reason we are doing so.Keep up the high standard

Went here with friends, service was O.K. initially, staff very pleasant.Main course Food was edible but had no character and little flavour to it, we then ordered puddings and waited an inordinate time for them to arrive, (the place had become busier but they should be able to cater for this and obviously couldn't cope) some of what arrived should have been hot but was barely warm, custard had a thick skin on it indicative of it lying for a period of time.

I have written a review about the osprey previously but feel I wish to continue to put my point across. In recent months, I have seen an exceptional improvement in the Osprey. I do strongly believe that previous years expierance, people seem to have a negative outlook towards the Osprey. In my opinion, the food is lovely and all needs are catered to when required. The gorgeous beer garden is definetly the place to be when the sun is out, relaxing and enjoyable to sit out and have a few drinks. In addition, there is also a function room available which looks incredible when decorated - picture posted on The Osprey facebook - and looks the perfect place for any special occasion. I believe that this place deserves more credit than its given.

I hired Crumbs to do all catering for my husbands 60th birthday party last weekend. I can't thank Donna and David enough for arriving with all the hot and cold food at the time I requested. I asked Crumbs to cater for approx 60/70 friends and family. It ended up over 100 friends arrived at our home. There was plenty of food for everyone and I received many compliments for the caterer. I'm only sorry I forgot to take a picture before I opened the buffet but I'm hoping either Donna or David took a picture as it was a fabulous buffet. Well done and many thanks to Crumbs x

First time visiting and came recommended. Met friends for brunch. 3 coffees and out order taken. Wasn't particularly busy and when we noticed another table that had ordered after us we asked for an update on our food and another round of drinks. Drinks came and no explanation given on food. When asked again was disappointed to receive abrupt response that food would be next to come out. Waited a further 10 mins for food. The food was delicious but customer service sadly lacking. Would not recommend. A simple acknowledgement would have gone a long way. We had to ask for the bill more than once. No tip given for the shortfalls in customer service.
