This is the OG mosque kitchen and food quality is much better than the other. Very friendly owners and great service.

The place is located within the central mosque of Edinburgh, the smell of food atracts you...it was soooo delicious,and spicy...I ate twice there because of my short stay...I discovered it just my last 2 days unfortunately, the stuff were kind and the place where we eat is always clean

Hidden gem! As a student at Edinburgh university, the mosque kitchen is my go-to place for halal food at a great price! The food is delicious with a wide selection of curries and great prices. Highly recommend. The kitchen is tucked away behind the mosque but has an outdoor covered seating area with world flags hanging from above.

I don't usually write reviews, but this place is so much better than the place by the corner at nicolsons. It's 100% worth checking it out if you had a disappointing experience there! The lamb gets sold out pretty quick though so you gotta get here early for it!

Absolutely amazing food at unbeatable prices. Great location, it's hard to find but it's right in the heart of Newington. N.B. the menu changes per day of the week so if you're after a certain dish (paneer etc.) may be worth checking in advance! Good array of veg and non veg options too. Recommend highly!

Rice is V plain, doesn't absorb sauces well. Mutton is reasonably tender but not flavourful enough, curry was weak. Spinach and potatoes were interesting and pretty decent Service is super fast because the food is all there they just need to scoop it

Now this place, omg was amazing!!! The food was super tasty and great value for money. We ate here three times!! Forget fancy restaurants, this is real home style food. Fills you up! We ate downstairs twice and once in the cafe upstairs. The homemade cakes were also so delicious. A must try when In Edinburgh. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming.

I just had a delightful meal at this Indian restaurant near my school, and I must say, it was exceptionally good. Priced at only £7.5 per portion, it’s quite affordable. This dish was generous with meat and the rice was very aromatic and flavorful. Additionally, the owner was very friendly and the hygiene standards were impressively maintained. Having tried Indian cuisine at two other restaurants in China, which were quite disappointing, this restaurant has completely elevated my impression of Indian food. It’s absolutely worth a visit.

Food is both bland and too hot. There is not that wonderful blend of spices that good south Asian food has. Portions are large, an ingredients are fine, but recipes need to be completely reworked. None was doughy and tasteless. Very disappointing given the wonderful reviews this place has received. Atmosphere is a cafeteria and restroom was not well maintained. Most disappointing meal I had in Edinburgh.

Friday prayers was taking place while we ate our lunch - two huge plays of rice, dahl, saag paneer and more. Add a portion of onion bhaji and it can to less than £20.

Another hidden gem for lunch in Edinburgh. It’s not super cheap for lunch £6ish but it’s a big plate of curry and you are getting soooo much food and it’s great quality with lots of veggies rather than just sauce. The folks here made a mixture of curries for a party at my house - six different curries, five orders of each. I ordered them a couple of weeks before and picked them up in the afternoon just before the party. The food was delicious, the price was good, and the guys were very friendly and helpful - a lovely experience overall. In the end we had about 26 people, so we had a nice left-overs dinner the next night too!

An affordable establishment selling good south asian food. They have limited options, and they may not be as tasty as some other restaurants. However, it is still quality, they rotate often, and they're there to serve the local community with excellence. They're friendly to anyone who walks through their doors, and give generous portions. I recommend everyone in the area come here at least once and support this local business. I recommend takeaway or seats outside.

Have been a regular and love the food, but please tell your staff to not ask intrusive questions about religious practices and offer unsolicited opinions about fasting.

Good value filling dishes. Staff is always nice and the daily curries offer a nice variety. Highly recommend. No many places to sit inside though, if you want a place to sit, the upstairs cafe serves the same food but in a nicer ambience.

Honestly such great food. The best biryani i have tried. Tried both the chicken and lamb and both were amazing , great portion size and such an authentic desi taste. Great atmosphere and quick service, however, the food was very bland and lacking flavour. I ordered the Chicken Jalfrezi with Rice but unfortunately didn't hit the spot, although the portion size was very generous. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Parking is not free due to being situated in the heart of Edinburgh, but we were told the parking charges are the cheapest around compared to other areas in Manchester.

It was my first time in this one, I always assumed it was linked to the one around the corner on the street, not the case it seems. The people in here are much more friendly than the shop, the folks who work in the MK shop are dour beyond belief. I have the lamb Bhuna, I was happy with mine, good amount of meat and sauce. My Fiancé had the chicken Tikka Masala, I didn't like that at all. It was bland. There are plenty of options, including a number of daily specials. The Value for money is still excellent here. In the MK shop, prices have gone up a good bit, you kinda wonder whether that place is worth it anymore. It would seem the Original Mosque Kitchen is the winner now for tastiest, wallet friendly food.

Always been the best great value for money

The Original Mosque Kitchen is a pretty good place for some lunch in Edinburgh! #Halal The portions here are great and the prices are less than 10 GBP, making it an affordable option for a satisfying meal. We tried the rice with chicken korma, which was pretty good, and the Monday special of rice with chicken dopiaza, which was also quite enjoyable. Another dish we tried was the rice with lamb bhuna, which was decent. My favorite thing that we had was the naan with chicken shish kabob. While the naan itself wasn't great and tasted like dough, the kabob was absolutely fantastic and stood out as the best item we tried. Overall, The Original Mosque Kitchen is a great spot for affordable, delicious Indian kinda style cuisine. Please note that there are two "Mosque Kitchens", so it can be confusing to find the right one. And I'm not sure how the other one tastes like.

What is a good restaurant? Good food and vibe. This restaurant is hidden in the backyard of buildings. It is quite and peaceful. The most important is the good is GREAT and the price is unexpected low. There is another restaurant at the street corner, which is not good as this one.
