Have been a regular and love the food, but please tell your staff to not ask intrusive questions about religious practices and offer unsolicited opinions about fasting.

Good value filling dishes. Staff is always nice and the daily curries offer a nice variety. Highly recommend. No many places to sit inside though, if you want a place to sit, the upstairs cafe serves the same food but in a nicer ambience.

I love this place it is the best mosque kitchen! I’ve been coming regularly, and they are so kind and generous here. The food is always top notch, and at an amazing price. They also have a rotating slot for a daily curry, so you can always get something different!

Honestly such great food. The best biryani i have tried. Tried both the chicken and lamb and both were amazing , great portion size and such an authentic desi taste. Great atmosphere and quick service, however, the food was very bland and lacking flavour. I ordered the Chicken Jalfrezi with Rice but unfortunately didn't hit the spot, although the portion size was very generous. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Parking is not free due to being situated in the heart of Edinburgh, but we were told the parking charges are the cheapest around compared to other areas in Manchester.

Parked very close to this cafe today (29/04/23) but didn't go in (alreadyhadlunch). Given 4 stars just for the aroma drifting by from the kitchen, superb !

It was my first time in this one, I always assumed it was linked to the one around the corner on the street, not the case it seems. The people in here are much more friendly than the shop, the folks who work in the MK shop are dour beyond belief. I have the lamb Bhuna, I was happy with mine, good amount of meat and sauce. My Fiancé had the chicken Tikka Masala, I didn't like that at all. It was bland. There are plenty of options, including a number of daily specials. The Value for money is still excellent here. In the MK shop, prices have gone up a good bit, you kinda wonder whether that place is worth it anymore. It would seem the Original Mosque Kitchen is the winner now for tastiest, wallet friendly food.

Always been the best great value for money

The Original Mosque Kitchen is a pretty good place for some lunch in Edinburgh! #Halal The portions here are great and the prices are less than 10 GBP, making it an affordable option for a satisfying meal. We tried the rice with chicken korma, which was pretty good, and the Monday special of rice with chicken dopiaza, which was also quite enjoyable. Another dish we tried was the rice with lamb bhuna, which was decent. My favorite thing that we had was the naan with chicken shish kabob. While the naan itself wasn't great and tasted like dough, the kabob was absolutely fantastic and stood out as the best item we tried. Overall, The Original Mosque Kitchen is a great spot for affordable, delicious Indian kinda style cuisine. Please note that there are two "Mosque Kitchens", so it can be confusing to find the right one. And I'm not sure how the other one tastes like.

I have yet to dine in, but over the past two years, Mosque Kitchen has been my go-to for takeout. The food is always fantastic; I believe I've had everything on the menu and would recommend it all.

What is a good restaurant? Good food and vibe. This restaurant is hidden in the backyard of buildings. It is quite and peaceful. The most important is the good is GREAT and the price is unexpected low. There is another restaurant at the street corner, which is not good as this one.

Piping hot and cheap plates of curry in classic fast food curry style e.g. bhuna and tikka masala. Don’t think some reviewers know what home style curries actually are, but hey, that’s probably why this place is so popular. They do the British style of curry well, they have variety, and you can’t argue with the price. But naan wasn’t that good, it’s much better in the proper restaurant.

Such a lovely cafe we come every year when we visit Edinburgh. Dont expect your classic curry options. Properly homemade curries that taste fresh and it's delicious. Coffee is also some of the best , strong and delicious fresh cakes available too.

I visit the Mosque kitchen (outside courtyard) as often as my circumstances allow, great healthy food and lots of it,for around 5 or 6 pounds.Meet some interesting Diner's and the staff are very friendly.It's a "must try" if you are in the area.

As a loyal customer, one year later, I have to edit my 5 star review and lower the score. I am aware that cost of living is going up everywhere but the serving price here has increased more than 10% and the rice portion has halved, so it is more like the price has gone up 25% overall, but customers's salaries haven't gone up that much so it's big price hike for most people. Quality still good but quantity and prices are bit dissapointing. If you have been there before, you can tell the size of the plate on the picture is not what it used to be.

Been coming to this place for quick albeit healthy fast food for a number of years - it's time to finally give them 5 stars. :-) I miss their curries when i am away, and eat them at least 1x week when I'm in Edinburgh. No-nonsense home cooking, budget friendly price, friendly staff. It is not a fancy place but the food is delicious. You can get it as takeaway or eat there at the tables outside/inside. Card payments accepted.

Taken by my University of Edinburgh student son to this, his favourite place to eat in Edinburgh. He compares all other food options to The Mosque Kitchen, and they all fall short. The food was wonderful, and such great value! He told me that I should choose what I thought was best, and by the time I got to the front of the line they would be out of it, and they would apologize, and they would suggest something else wonderful. He was right, that is exactly what happened, I and got a fabulous meal. Friendly staff, great food. A bit hard to find (behind the Mosque on Potterrow, and then around the back of the Aroma Cafe), but well worth the search. We will certainly be back the next time we are in Edinburgh.
