My fiance and I visited during a shirt trip to Edinburgh and we were impressed with Ginger. We had poppadoms to start with onions and pickle tray - excellent! Pickle tray was great and the poppadoms still warm. For a main, I had the Poleko Bhale Khukhura - a Nepalese chicken dish, I would highly recommend. My partner had the Chicken Korma, which she enjoyed. All sides (pilau rice, chips and peshwari naan) were fresh and hot.I would definitely recommend Ginger and will certainly visit again if I'm in Edinburgh.

I went here for Christmas meal with a friend due to the reviews and we were very disappointed. There was no atmosphere at all. The starter, tandoori chicken was very spicy but nice. The mains were a disaster. The tikka masala looked more like a kurma and had no taste. The madras had no spice , heat or taste and the garlic nan was was flat, crunchie and tasteless. The only positive was we could use my taste card as I would not have paid full price. I would not return here.

We went here with the Meerkat offer. The owner said he didn't know anything about it.Then he said he was asked to participate but declined. He then decided he did participate!!We had pakora starters which had no sauce to accompany them.We then chose a Nepalese dish which was very bland and a tad sweet. We had chicken saag which was way too salty. The garlic naan was very good. After three tables had finished eating he came and announced he only wanted cash!Mass exodus to the bank machine.Surely he could have said earlier on entry. All seemed a bit strange to me.Based on the food taste I won't be back.

We decided to have a curry here after reading reviews online. The decor is a little sparse and wouldn't be out of place in a small cafe but the owner was welcoming and made us feel at ease quickly. The presence of locals reassured us.The menu is full of options without being too busy and the food didn't take long to arrive after we ordered. The starters were devoured quickly and the main course didn't last too long either. All the dishes were well prepared and very tasty and didn't sit heavily on completion. One of the best curries we've had.

It was raining our first day in Edinburgh and after trucking up the Royal Mile to get to our hotel we were starving! We passed this place on our way to the hotel and being in the mood for Indian food we went back to grab a bite. Then it was our turn, and it happened to us and it was hilarious! Food was great, service a little slow. Waiter offered to take picture of our party, the proceeded to take several on his own phone and only one on our phone. Not once did he ask for permission or explain what the pic would be used for. We booked this restaurant because it said it was Nepalese and we fancied something different !Unfortunately there are few dishes that claim to be Nepalese - this is really an Indian restaurant with chicken tikka masala & jalfrezi etc prominent on the menu. We were in the City for the weekend and fancied an Indian on Sunday evening. Didn't fancy walking too far and a local guy recommended Ginger, to be honest it would be easy to walk past it as the restaurant is down a side street. Fair to say the outside doesn't shout out "Indian Restaurant, come on in" but once inside you are treated very well, and the food was really tasty/lovely. It's certainly not the usual traditional Indian restaurant and there are many Nepalese dishes on the menu, but if you are in town and fancy something a little different to the usual Lamb Bhuna then we would certainly recommend. Many thanks for a lovely meal.

Off the main drag where everything is happening, found it by accident, just up a side street. So glad we had trouble finding somewhere to eat as we could not have done better by going in here. Was a bit dubious at first as was empty, but realised that was because it was not on the main street. Our group of four found our dishes to be so yummy, it was quality food and the service was just perfect. The people serving us were very pleasant and sweet. I just wish that that this restaurant was in my home town and I would be there at least twice a week. My daughter and I could not make up our minds what to have so we shared a rice and it separated out tow choices of main. I could not decide which main was best as each time I ate one, that was my favourite and then each time I tried the other, that was my favourite. Definitely would make a point of returning if I visited Edinburgh again.

We prefer the way the Tandoori plates are presented. One of us had some excellent lamb as well, but I don't rememeber the name of that specific plate. Thanks Kumar for a wonderful experience, first time for my parents and wow, how they enjoyed their meal, next time we order the leg of lamb, don't bother with a knife as a blunt spoon would do the trick, the meat just fell of the bone and the portion was enough for two. Thanks for making us so welcome.

This is our second visit to Ginger. We arrive later on Saturday night unsure if we could have a table but a warm welcome, excellent food, friendly helpful staff and not rushed to finish up.

We ordered take out food from this place during our visit as we were staying in an apartment hotel. The food (Vegetable Jalfrzi, Aloo Gobi, Nan bread, Rice and Rait) was very tasty and the portions were large enough that we had left over for lunch. Would highly recommend.

Not quite sure what is Nepalese about this Indian/Nepalese restaurant (apart from the gentleman who runs it). Nevertheless the food was lovely and of adequate portions. My husband and I learnt long ago to stop over ordering so we got by on a vegetable briyani and a lamb saag. A beer and a glass of wine got us out for under £30.

my friend and I visited this fabulous Indian/Nepalese restaurant last night and were blown away by the food. This has to be the best food that we have ever eaten-it was delicious and beautifully presented and the lovely gentleman who served us was a superb host. Highly recommended!!!!

Visited October 2020 Wonderful coffee ( and I don’t say that often ) Great seats felt very safe ( COVID-19) all clean and decent space between tables. Very good selection of food and friendly staff. We will be back again soon

We randomly selected this restaurant as we were in Slough for a couple of days and looking for somewhere - we are delighted we did. As a family (kids 10 and 4) it can be difficult on a wet Wednesday night after driving 7hrs+ to get something everyone is happy with, but the staff were brilliant and organized our meal so there was something for everyone. They were also great with the kids and even though the restaurant wasn't busy I still felt they were attentive and ready to help for whatever we needed. The food was fabulous too. We each had a different meal and were struggling to decide which was best, my advice is to speak to the staff and let them know what you do and dont like and they can prepare it the way you want it. Nothing was too much trouble. All in all a lovely place and if we are ever in the area we will definitely be back!

Really good freshly cooked food and very attentive staff. The portions were generous and very tasty. The restaurant was comfortable without intrusive music
