Navadhanya in Edinburgh, City of

Despite being turned away in the first point of contact (we just turned up, no booking); a quick re-visit of the restaurant’s ‘situation’ by the manager found us a seat. The surroundings were impressive, the ambiance pleasant, the menu alluring. It’s been a few months, so pardon me if I don’t remember exactly what we had to eat, suffice to say that the ‘Railway Curry’ was particularly outstanding. It was all top-notch. Enough to have me on the phone to my two brothers (who both live in Edinburgh) to recommend. Both my partner and I love our Indian food. This was of the highest quality.

Having been recommended by good friends we were really looking forward to our visit whilst staying in Edinburgh. Unfortunately, we were in here for over 3 hours due to massive servicing failures and still didn't finish the tasting menu as we'd had enough of the place. The food was not that great and the service was awful. We asked for the bill after wasting over 3 hours of our evening - the staff were that eager to go home the manager had even got changed into t-shirt and jeans whilst we were eating. Avoid this place at all costs!!!

I have to say that my Wife and I were really disappointed with this restaurant on this particular visit, having been there at least 3/4 times before. Not only that, but we actually recommended good friends of ours from Australia and New Zealand to try this restaurant. Firstly we sat down at 18.30pm and were not served our first course for at least an hour. That was after the first course had to be sent back, as it was not what we ordered! The food was ok when we eventually ate it, but we were there for nearly three hours for two courses. Clearly they had staffing issues on the night, but it was not a good advert for them!

We turned up on time for our booking at 830 but we’re told all food had to be ordered by 930 and we couldn’t have the tasting menu. It all seemed a bit odd but we’re the told the menu we wanted was possible The tasting menu was excellent but we were presented with the bill before we had finished our dessert. We we then told it was home time before we had finished our drinks at 11 I’m not sure what’s happening here. The food is excellent but the staff need to get home early and then complain it’s not as busy as normal. To be at the top of your game food and service need to complement each other

Nice meal here a few years ago, then disappointment during lockdown. Tonights meal was spoiled by shabby, slow and faulty service. The food was actually good. The decor and feel was of a tired and faded place. Toilets need to be upgraded. Shame.

Bei einem Besuch in Cambridge entdeckten wir diesen wirklich sehr guten Inder.Offensichtlich für die Qualität und Authentizität sprach die Anwesenheit von vielen indischen Gästen. Der Service war sehr gut, aufmerksam und sehr freundlich. Wirklich ausgezeichnet war das 7-Gänge Menü (wird auch abgewandelt vegetarisch und vegan angeboten) , die Qualität der Zutaten war sehr gut , besonders hervorzuheben ist die angenehme Schärfe und gekonnte Würze der einzelnen Gänge , die zudem sehr ansprechend für das Auge angerichtet waren.

We passed nearby whilst in Edinburgh and visited without booking. The welcome was fabulous: friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, as was the wine. I don't think I've ever eaten better. For us, the wine waiter gave us superb advice on his area of Europe and wine production regions. He even drew us a map of where he came from - it's now on our bucket list to visit. Love serendipity! First class. And not unreasonably priced, too.

Visited for my girlfriend's birthday, very grateful to the team for making it such a beautiful night for us ❤️ The staff was incredibly attentive and welcoming, and the vegetarian tasting menu was so delicious we almost ran out of compliments! Beautiful, succulent, tasty food; well presented and served by friendly staff. The menu doesn't waste time giving you extensive lists, running to several pages, of what you might hope to get in any, run-of-the-mill, Indian restaurant. It's one page of what they do brilliantly well. Sure there are enough choices; but immediately we got the feeling that these guys know what they are doing. Keeping it simple and preparing wonderful dishes. This very much proved to be the case. The chicken tikka starter was immense. The Railway Lamb Curry fantastic. Herself had 'the best fish curry' she'd ever had. Even the dessert menu (something I'm seldom tempted by in an Indian restaurant) had a dish to tempt. Best Indian food I've had in the capital by a mile. Thoroughly recommend. Seek it out.

I tried the same dish in at least 5 different indian restaurants; and the Navdhanya version was to me, the clear winner with the right balance of spice, flavour and freshness. I took away this dish one evening and was pleasantly surprised. I hope the consistency will be maintained.

Limited menu by typical Indian menus with maybe a dozen options but on the plus side the dishes they do offer are all fabulous. Very interesting and different dishes. Seems a very popular restaurant with justification. Excellent service and good value.

Bien decorado y limpio. la camarera nos ayudó con el menú y nos aconsejó que pudiéramos comer algo tan caliente o suave como quisiéramos. La comida llegó rápidamente, estaba caliente y deliciosa. Todos cumplían con Covid y el restaurante y los baños estaban muy limpios. E incluso obtuvimos un descuento ya que continuarán con el descuento de ayuda hasta septiembre. Sin duda volveremos a visitar y lo recomendaría a otros.

As I was confined to my home in self-isolation after my holiday in a Spanish island, I could not try the restaurant in person and had to have the food delivered. The delivery process wasn't the smoothest, but at any rate we got there in the end.We liked the onion bhajis, the rich chaats (papdi and samosa), the fragrant pilau rice, as well as the channa masala and the paneer jalfrezi, vibrant with spices. The naan and the papadums suffer a bit with delivery, but they were OK.For the quality, which while not out of this world seemed to me a clear notch above your run of the mill curry house, I thought the price was very appealing. Portions are generous too. Once my Covid "house arrest" is over, I would certainly like to experience the restaurant in person.

Horrible place to visit. Booked and went for my anniversary thinking it would be nice. As we arrived our booking was non existent on their system, even though we had an email confirmation. The waiter with the side parting was unpleasant and one of the moodiest waiters I have come across. He didn’t even have the decency to smile to a paying customer. We were not offered any drinks and everytime I had to ask for water the jug was taken away. No real care for a customer.Starters were presented well and taste was ok. The fancy lamb shank pics you see on trip advisor were not on the menu. When the main dish was ordered we found a hair in it. We didn’t complain as we know exactly what takes place behind kitchen doors when a customer complains, so we left our dish. The food was very very mediocre at best, no real taste. This is not Indian food (my wife is Indian) nor is it fine dining, it deserves a 1 out of 10.Horrible service with a moody waiter topped off with very poor food. Could not wait to leave.I would not recommend this place to anyone. Very very poor option of Indian food in Edinburgh.

I have been eating at this restaurant for several years now, from when it started down in Haymarket. In that time i have had the tasting menu with the paired wine which was an absolute taste sensation. Their relocation from Haymarket to Grindlay Street has seen them go from strength to strength, it is my restaurant of choice before every gig at The Usher HallNow that they have added delivery to their bow, as a result of the coronavirus lockdown, I can get the best Indian in edinburgh delivered to my doorstep. They have expanded the menu and i have to say their Bhuna is the best in town

Toda la comida que elegimos estaba muy bien presentada en un elegante estilo de comida y sabía absolutamente maravilloso. Acompañamos la comida con un buen vino, y también hay cervezas disponibles. There is one serious problem with this restaurant and that is the location. Over 4 hours from Nantwich we will not be able to become regulars, which we certainly would be if we were local.The service and food were outstanding. A small menu choice usually means that the food is top class and in this case it proved to be true. My lamb dish was excellent, as was the catch of the day (cod). We will be back next time we are in Edinburgh.

Dined twice in December and now the only Indian restaurant that i would visit.The monkfish tail starter is just delicious, well cooked served with an array of spices that leave you clearing the plate.Small but attractive menu suitable for all, Each dish is just so well balanced and the spices delicate on the plate.Service is very professional and provide detail on each dish.Just the best.

Navadhanya is sophisticated and clean, with calming background music, subtley adorned with tasteful cultural artwork, creating an immediate relaxing effect, heightening anticipation of what's to come. Our broad-smiled welcome from one of our two servers added to this as we perused the quality spotless menus. The business lunch at £9.99 is fantastic value, though the £5.00 supplement for prawns a bit steep. Our Tulsi Murgh starters were deliciously different, though I gave most of my chicken to partner as was too pink for my comfort. However he devoured and suffered no ill effects so perhaps I was being too cautious.

Very friendly warm staff here serving very exciting Indian food not too far from Edinburgh Castle. The scallops for an entree were a real standout and a dish we would happily have again and again.

There usually is a reason why a restaurant has less than 2% 'poor or terrible' reviews on Tripadvisor, it's really good! This is undoubtedly one of the finest Indian meals I have had. Attentive polite service, pleasant surroundings and exceptional food, as the title says I cannot find fault!

We had high expectation going in due to all the reviews but weren’t so impressed. First order of Rajdhani chat was a disappointment. The crust part of it had a burnt and a little rancid oil taste. We liked the taste of chicken biryani and paneer main dish. Lamb was just ok and we have had better lamb. Biggest disappointment was the kulfi at the end. It tasted like it had sat in the freezer too long and absorbed not so great taste from freezer. I didn’t eat mine after a spoon. Waiter was impression-less and robotic. He didn’t ask if we like our food or anything. Just came for a check and absolutely nothing. No goodbye or thanks for coming while leaving. Gave a strong vibe of snooty a atmosphere. Unfortunately I can’t recommend the place.
