The Original Fish And Chips in Wandsworth

I'd been out if the country for four years so I really fancied fish and chips. I had errands in this area so decided to give this place a go. I should have looked at the reviews. The one thing that saved this restaurant from one star was that they cooked my fish from scratch. The girl on the counter was also pleasant. But the first premonition of foreboding was when I wasn't allowed to out my own salt and vinegar on the meal. They did it for me. I found vinegar in the tables but no salt. Ok, the chips. Unlike the fish, they were not freshly cooked. They were lukewarm, floppy and tasteless. They really weren't pleasant. The fish? Just odd. I didn't detect the large flakes that I was expecting and unfortunately, the batter was not at all crisp. In fact, the underside of the fish was soggy. I surmise it hadn't been properly drained. I had a wally and a pickled onion with the meal. These were fine. I ate the lot as I didn't want to waste £14 and I wanted to know that I had had the meal. No way I'll be going back though.

Man this place is hit and miss. Dry horrible batter sausage. Nice chips sometimes. Tasty chicken but wouldn't dream of order fish from there even though there a fish and chip shop. I just know it won't be up to scratch. To be fair they should be better.

Visited here for a quick bite (literally) to eat before heading into the city; I started by asking how the kebab meat was prepared as I couldn’t see a spit in the kitchen. After enquiring about whether it was ‘bucket donner,’ the man serving was reluctant to answer, but assured me I would be back for more. Following a bit of a wait I was presented with a tortilla wrap (not naan!) smothered with mayonnaise and about half a head of lettuce (no tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, chilli sauce, raitha, or any of the other toppings you’d expect to find on a kebab) and 4 limp, gristly strips of unseasoned meat. I took one bite, in which I couldn’t locate any of the scant portion of meat, before deciding to bin it there and then. The only thing generous about this kebab was the huge amount of mayonnaise and lettuce used - the mayo would have exceeded the 100ml liquids limit for air travel, whilst the huge portion of lettuce wouldn’t have looked out of place in a salad bowl on a buffet table. I don’t even know where to start with their use of Mexican tortilla bread in a Turkish dish. My one, disappointing, bite cost me just shy of £10. Needless to say; I won’t be returning.

Delicious food and very friendly service. Popped in for a quick takeaway for dinner. Recommend for an easy dinner

I went there to grab a couple of bits of chicken and was given a free wing. I wasn't expecting the chicken to be that good! Tried to go back for more later but they had just closed.

Recently moved to the area so wanted to try the local fish and chip shop. I read the reviews but thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, it was a complete waste of money. The cod in particular was inedible - chewy and watery (probably cooked from frozen). Neither of us could get past a couple of bites before it went in the bin. The chips were okay, but they are not traditional 'fish and chip shop' style chips. Just oven chips. The only redeeming feature was the service, the lady was very nice. They should just rebrand as a late-night kebab shop, it was the worst fish and chips I've ever had.

cod was ok. sausage in batter was very heavy. the chips are rubbish. over cooked dry and tasteless. don't eat here at £24.50 I expect at least to get fresh chips. terrible place.

My requirements were cooked to order which impressed me knowing it would be fresh. The fish was large and chip portions were plentiful. Sitting on the deck watching the world go by and chatting with friends. I was satisfied by the quality and the range of options . Friendly service and reasonable price too.

I wanted to get myself an ice-cream from this place today. 1. Ice-cream was half melted, the scoops have not even held shape. 2. One flavour I ordered was a sorbet, but that was not specified anywhere 3. The lady serving the ice-cream (in black curly hair) has an atrocious attitude to customers. She acted as if she was doing me a favour that I am spending my money at this place. She even told me off and said: don't show me this attitude. All I did is, I asked if I can pay first before she puts the scoops on. It's difficult to pay and pack a backpack with an ice-cream in my hand. Places like Amorino have never had any issues with such requests. She also said, she can't do that because she already put the hand gloves on. This was Little Britain Computer Says No customer service. I am 43 years old and long time grew out of showing people attitude. Life's too short for that. Needless to say that I have not enjoyed my half-melted ice-cream and unwanted sorbet. They have lost a local customer. In midst of pandemic, when so many catering places go bust, customers are gold. Not at The Original Fish & Chips London. Here you are at mercy of this awful woman's mood. Horrible place! Avoid by any cost!

I love sausage in batter with chips but this was the worst I've ever had. The chips had a strange texture to them and the batter on the sausage was way too thick and not fluffy. If this wasn't bad enough the price was way too high £5.50

Listen up I hate fish and chips. It's like the most uninspiring food you could eat. Yet these guys manage to make the absolutely best fish and chips I have ever tasted. And... they do a fried chicken that puts KFC and others to shame. The portion sizes are enormous and the chicken is cooked to perfection with a crispy tangy flavoursome batter. Totally amazing food for very reasonable prices. I recommend this without hesitation

Who knew that "original" fish & chips were frozen and then served soggy and cold? I had forgotten how terrible this place was. All we wanted were some chips - unlike the ones we also have in the freezer - to go with the ham & eggs. We really enjoyed the ham & eggs .... Come on guys - be ashamed serving up frozen and trying to pass it off as "original". Go to Matheous in Raynes Park, for the real deal.

The worst chips I have ever tasted. There is nothing original about selling frozen oven type chips deep fried you surely expect real chips which are not real chips from a fish & chip shop !!! And even they are cooked not fit for purpose. The pie could only be eaten from the bottom as the top you would need a hammer to open it !!’ Awful, awful

Some of the best Chicken in southfields :) super friendly! Love coming here on way home. Quite cheap also!

Tenía un pescado grande para llevar y papas fritas con salsa de curry x 2El tamaño del pez es enorme, pero acabo de comer antes de comer en casa en el viaje en auto de regreso a casa por el olor grasiento de la comida, que es poco probable que sepa tan bien y, lamentablemente, tenía razón. Ambos comimos un poco de pescado, las papas estaban "rancio" y sólidas. El aceite probablemente era viejo?La vergüenza, el pescado y las papas fritas es una delicia y esto no estuvo a la altura.Efectivo solo en este lugar.Vamos chicos que puedes hacerlo mejor.No volveré a este chippy: (

filthy and food is under cooked or its left in the heater for hours dont use this shop it costs alots for poor food and the manager is very abusive

Disgusting. How old was that haddock? Soggy, cold chips. They have murdered our national dish. Assume if I hung around long enough, I would have seen the Brake Brothers freezer van turn up. Go to Mattheous in Raynes Park, for the real deal.

Friendly service, great food, giant portions. Cooked fresh to order. :) Just the plastic plates...creates crazy amount of unnecessary waste :(

The chips were awful - burnt, hard and inedible. Threw the whole lot in the bin. Disgraceful. Would never order from here again.

Very friendly service, tasty fish and chips - a decent battered saveloy too. Properly cooked chip shop chips. Even some outside seating available. One of the few remaining decent chippies.

A pesar de la fachada tradicional de la tienda de pescado y papas fritas, la comida que se sirve aquí es muy promedio, incluso para los estándares de pescado y papas fritas. He estado en 3 o 4 ocasiones diferentes y siempre he tenido una experiencia decepcionante; chips fríos, chips secos, chips viejos, chips cocidos y salsas masticadas densa y masticables. Inicialmente pensé que era la hora del día en que lo intenté en las horas pico cuando esperarías que todo fuera un poco más "fresco" pero que al mismo tiempo quedara decepcionado. Dicho esto, el pescado siempre parece estar recién preparado, lo que hace que todo esté bien, pero hay algo sobre la forma en que el bateador está aquí. Es increíblemente denso y pesado. Por el momento, los chips son los peores ofensores. Después de varias experiencias decepcionantes, ya no volveré, en lugar de eso, ¡ahorraré mis antojos de pescado y patatas fritas para ir a la playa!

Very good location, fresh fish always, they also have sushi , ideal for Wimbledon fans in the season

Counter sales was good, fish was the worst, asked for cod, when I got home it was some other fish, awful lots of bones in fish, first time but definitely also LAST, it's shame they use such a powerful name.

Quite often pick up fish and chips or a sausage on my way home from work from here. Love the owner, he's always very friendly and welcoming. Good portions and tasty!

It does the job when your boozy. Its never really been that attractive an option when sober.... I think that tells its own story....!

I only went to this place because I live in Southfields and this is the only Fish and chip shop in the area. Food is just average and a bit too expensive for the quality. They need a better quality chips

When cooked fresh the food is good, portions not as large as some F&C shops and I reckon the price of chips has gone up post Wimbledon punters!

Was really hungry after work so my boyfriend and I decided to get fish and chips, it took a really long time to make, they only accept cash and then they forgot my mushy peas which I had paid for!! The chips didn't taste too good, like they hadn't been properly cooked, however I suppose the fish was OK. Wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't go back!

As you come out of Southfields tube you can always catch a whiff of the great smell come from this chippy. That's what lured us in. But since that first visit, we've tried everything they have to offer. Now we no longer go at all. The place probably survives because of the great location but mainly because of the fact they have zero chippy competition in the area. Fish and chips. Both tasteless Battered sausage- tasteless.Kebab - probably the worst I've ever tasted and they skimp on the meat. Fish cakes - tasteless. Saveloy - hard and tasteless.If you are desperate for a late dose of junk food and you have to go here because nowhere else is open, then get the popcorn chicken. It's the only thing with a remote bit of taste. And it's a decent portion.Prices are not good for a chippy either. Around £8 for just the fish.And there is a long wait if you do want fish.

Not good. Greasy, expensive, flavourless. Disappointing. Batter was very oily. No flavour to cod. Chips tasted like reheated frozen chips. Terribly ketchup and pretty pricey.

significantly more expensive than most places but also because it's the only fish and chipsin the area. they charge for ketchup which I think is ridiculous. only eat here if you're really craving it and have no other choice!

I ordered 6 wings and chips, came home to eat it and this is what I find! Absolutely disappointing and disgusted, nothing amazing about this place just in a good location, you want good fish abd chips in southfields, go Michaels fish bar next to the shell petrol station, or Dianas in Wandsworth

This is a prosaic take-away with a few pavement tables where one can enjoy a fish and chips lunch whilst watching the society of Southfields village pass by. Those serving are a young couple with a heavy Eastern European accent who are friendly enough. Fish is either haddock or cod (with chips £9 for the former and £7.50 for the latter. My haddock was a substantial portion in a crisp batter. No complaints about the chips. Not so enamoured with the mushy peas but perhaps the plastic cup in which they were served put me off. Oh and there are pies and even sushi too!

My wife and I have been eating fish and chips from this place for ten years or so. The fish and chips are always cooked to order so they're fresh and crunchy. I particularly love the haddock. Michael the owner is a nice guy too. Always got a smile and a wave from behind the counter and if we have the kids with us, he will always call them over to give them a lollipop even if we are not buying any food from him. A fantastic take away restaurant and a credit to Southfields

Very disappointed by the fish and chips I had this evening. The service was quick and friendly enough but the chips were undercooked and the fish just dreadful. The batter was tasteless and soggy within minutes. I've had a lot of fish and chips, mostly in Yorkshire and I think this place lives of being in a convenient location without any passion or care into the quality of the product. Won't be going back.

Lanchonete que serve o tradicional peixe frito com batata frita, alem de outros lanches. O peixe é bom mas muito gorduroso, já a batata vem no ponto

Great to eat hot/warm food on a cold weather. The cod was a big serving as well as the chips. Pretty good price.

Food was cooked well, nice and hot, very good portion sizes. But not cheap. And service friendly but English not great. But then all we had was takeaway fish n chips so what more do you want?! nice (small!) little area to sit outside and people watch/eat

O carro chefe ao pé da letra 'peixe e fritas'. Não é um local luxuoso, mas é tranquilo até às 14:45, pois é o fast food dos garotos que saem da escola, portanto a partir das 15h durante a semana vai estar lotado. Não é uma das refeições mais saudáveis, por se tratar de fritura, mas vale experimentar se você for visitar Wimbledon. Estando lá prove as spicy wings, muito apementadas e saborosas.

Just had fish and chips from here and feel as though i have been ripped off.We had to pick bones out of both pieces of fish and the chips were poor.When asked if i wanted lemon with the fish i said just put a wedge of lemon with the fish and was mortified when the guy picked up a bottle of lemon juice-HOW MUCH DO LEMONS COST??The worst £15 i have spent on a takeaway.

I had my birthday dinner there during my UK and I cannot fault it. The service was good and although it was a take away, there were picnic benches under a canopy. This meant we had a virtual restaurant meal.

Went to the cafe side of the business only to be ignored solidly for five minutes by the weird guy at the counter. When a patricianly white couple appeared behind us he suddenly came alive and fell over himself to seat and serve them first. When my wife politely reminded him that she was waiting for him to take her coffee order he desultorily and begrudgingly took the order. We sat down only to have him not bother serving us our coffee and get busy making their sandwiches. After another five minutes of this treatment we left. I used to go there on my own and the food was never that good - going with my Indian wife has convinced me that the mediocre quality is not worth the repugnant weird racist 'service'.Avoid.

In what should be the best location for a take away fish and shop I had a mediocre fish and chip experience . Could be so much better

We stopped at Original Fish and Chips on our way back to Southfields train station. I spent the day at Wimbledon Tennis Museum with my wife and children. We had noticed this restaurant on the way to the museum coming off the train and vowed to come back. We decided to get a quick bite to eat on the way back and as we waited at a tennis shop across the street it quickly filled up with students just getting out of school. The owner came out and motioned for us to come inside his coffee shop which was next door and we were able to order without standing in the long line outside. It was a very nice gesture and the owner engaged us in conversation. Our orders were passed to the kitchen and very quickly within 6 minutes we received our meals. The fish was cooked to perfection and the fillets were very good sized portions. The chips were very tasty and all the condiments were brought to our table. The staff were wonderful and friendly. This shop has a great business ethic and it was a pleasure to be greeted in such a fine manner. The food was delicious. I give this restaurant very high marks. Well done.

I had a takeaway from here whilst camping for Wimbledon tennis. It's a little walk away, near Southfields station. Lovely food. Great value for money.

Quick, tasty and delicious. Right actoss the road from the Southfields train station on the street coming down from the All England Lawn Tennis grounds. Fast friendly service- good value
