The Oriental Takeaway in Newport

Unfortunately we ordered a Chinese from the Oriental tonight. We ordered a quarter crispy duck, a pancake roll, king prawn chow mein, chicken in cashew nuts in a yellow bean sauce and a curry sauce. They gave us free prawn crackers. It was delivered and the chicken in cashew nuts was very watery, greasy and had no cashew nuts at all, not even one. The king prawn chow mein had just three over cooked prawns in it. We basically spent just over £29 and ate just the duck pancakes and the spring rolls. Out of respect, I called them up to pass on our feedback instead of writing it on a public forum. Only to be told that if I couldn’t see any nuts in the dish that was my problem. Also, that I was a liar and there would have been eight king prawns in the dish. I told her there were just three, she said I was lying and that she can assure me there were eight. I think I'm more in shock at how I was spoken to than the awful food! The lady who answers the phone there needs to learn some customer service skills. I called to give feedback out of respect and she showed no respect, customer service skills or decorum with her response. We weren’t looking for any freebies, just wondered why it was so poor. I won’t be ordering from there ever again and it was an absolute waste of £30, it wasn’t what we ordered and it was mostly inedible. When you work hard for your money and fancy a treat - you don’t expect such a poor standard of food or service. They’ve let themselves down. Disappointing. Avoid.

Ordered chicken balls and got prawn balls (LUCKILY, no one had allergies), and the chips weren't cooked properly. Was my first time ordering and will be my last.

We both had the best takeaway meal last night, I do not usually give reviews but we loved the food so much. Literally the best Chinese we have tasted and that is saying something. Never ordering from anywhere else anymore! Food came within 20 mins, really good quality food and the taste was sensational. Still thinking about it now.... yummy! 🤤❤️

Order food for delivery, absolutely stunning, set meal for 1, chicken curry, chicken balls . fast delivery, huge portions, highly recommended.

Food arrived very late and cold. I called to find out what was going on to be told it was a few minutes away. It arrived another 30 mins later with no apology. Very disappointing. Chow mein had very little meat in.

Used the oriental and loved the oriental for over 13 years, but the last 3 orders have been terrible, missing items, uncooked, overcooked. Thought it was just a bad night maybe so gave a try again tonight and spent £40 and again its terrible, poppadoms are burnt, noodles overcooked, loads of items missing, its missing 2 boxes of seaweed, (apparently they don't don't more and replaced with crispy rolls) but its advertised and paid for. Absolutely shocking service, ordered via their site. 45 mins for delivery. Called at 45 minutes. Driver isn’t here yet so will be back in 10 minutes. So I asked how long has my food been sat waiting. Oh no the driver is here now I’m told. So I asked again how long has it been sat there? A lovely shouting response….you want this order or what? Want me to cancel it! What amazing customer service!!!!! And small businesses need our help in this situation! I for 1 am glad I was paying cash so didn’t have to argue to get my money back!!

Called to see where our order was as it was due to be delivered and still said preparing. Was told the order was ready and the driver would be back there in 10 minutes to collect it and deliver it. When I asked how long it had been sat there I was shouted at ‘look it’s ready, it’s here, do you want it or you want cancel?’ Can’t believe how I was spoken to. I have ordered from here for years but I will never go here again now out of principle. Absolutely disgusting

Good food and portion sizes prompt delivery's and arrives hot🔥

Disappointed, I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and have always requested items from the menu, requesting certain ingredients are not added due to food allergies, up until tonight, this had always been observed however, tonight an order of over £40 was waisted as all of the ingredients I had requested that were not added was ignored! When trying to contact the restaurant, I didn’t get anywhere and was constantly met with a busy engaged tone!

It was a great meal I had one of there set meals Prawn sesame toast, Chicken with mushrooms and Noodles with sweet and sour sauce The chicken was cooked perfectly and was moist and fell apart in your mouth the noodles were cooked nicely not hard nice and soft the toast wasn’t hard ever and had a nice crunch and Good prawn flavour the sauce was sweet with a nice sour hit. I recommend this Chinese highly the staff are great the person on the phone was very good by describing the food they serve and let you know if it might be a bit late or not which was great the delivery driver didn’t say much but I don’t matter because of how high quality the food is I will be ordering food from here again!!!!

I ordered a Pork Curry, Chicken Balls, Prawn Crackers and Chicken and Noodle Soup. Easily one of the tastiest and most authentic Chinese meals I ever had. Only slight criticism I have is the chicken balls could be abit bigger. But I think reasonable value for quantity. Cannot wait to order again!

Due to Lockdown we could t do amrita to celebrate my husband 65 h birthday, so we invited my son around for a meal, considering they have born had the Covid19 (both nurses). And it was fabulous. I could t recommend it more and we never have take away meals.

I'm giving 3 stars because my husband liked his lemon chicken. My tofu was okay but I've had better. The boiled rice I ordered was inedible as they put egg in it. If I wanted egg in my rice I would have ordered egg fried rice. I cooked some microwave rice to go with the meal which kind of destroys the whole point of getting a takeaway! I hate egg. If they are going to put egg in the boiled rice they should say on the menu. I would not have ordered from them. I won't again.

One of the best Chinese meals I've ever had

Ordered for 1st time. Really. Impressed. Food was delivered right on time. Piping hot. Portion Size 👍🏾 The Crispy Shredded Lamb was best had in a long time. Spring rolls were lovely. Nothing greasy. Meat really good. Prawn Crackers also great. Would recommend and will be using again! Thank you

This was the most horrible food I have tasted only ordered from here as nothing else was open never ordered from here before an never will apso rank, the chips tasted as if they just got recooked a few times day after day the rice was all sticky and cold an the curry saurse well I wouldn't feed the food to my dog payed £20 for food just to go in the bin sort it out jheeez

Ok but needs improvement over taste

Menu is probably the same as in other Chinese takeaways but it's prepared in a different way. We always have the same food but the extra hot chicken curry is made especially for my husband. If you want a special dish just ask and they would probably do it for you 😛😛

Ordered x2 chicken fried rice and sweat n sour chicken balls , rice was lovely but the chicken balls were way too overcooked.

Had been a loyal customer here for 15 years but after yesterday's lack of customer service will be looking elsewhere. Also, it's unacceptable not to take card payment in this day and age. You take payments online, therefore it is natural for the customer to assume they can pay by card on collection. Wasted time I didn't have going to look for a cash machine. The food is good actually, but there are so many other options in Newport I'm not going to go out of my way to come here again.

Ordered food restaurant amended the time to 19.30 I have just called at 19.53 to find out where it is! Lady on the phone wasn't exactly helpful she couldn't find my order to start with then said ah yes it's on its way! Not the best so far just hope the food is hot and tastes nice once it finally arrives! First time of ordering from here so first impressions are not good
