Lovely hotel and excellent breakfast

Rooms were okay but the service though was not up to par. Last year they had recurring issues with the fire allarm that got triggered at unsociable hours by the bank next door and the management was not able to provide adequate compensation or improvements. Restaurant service is also a hit or miss. Sometimes it's swift and good, sometimes it's forever and bad. Gym is on the tiny side, with only one bench, an eliptical, a bike and a treadmill. Breakfast is subpar with no mushrooms. Probabaly still the best in town, but might be worth staying in Cardiff instead if possible. Front desk was always really friendly though, so can't really fault them. They are a lovely group of people. Just management is not great.

Parking in public carpark with walk to the hotel. Numerous young people about the area on electric bikes, skateboards etc. An accident waiting to happen and made me very nervous. I stayed 5 nights. Food and service first night was excellent. It deteriorated after that. I also didn't appreciate being "pushed " for a service tip in the restaurant, which I didn't think was deserved. The bed was very comfortable but the hanging space for clothes was limited. Wouldn't stay again mostly because of the surrounding area.

Best mercure I've stayed in,only complaint was breakfast,no quality,bits overcooked bits undercooked and cold.real shame as it's a lovely hotel otherwise.

Had a fantastic stay at Hotel Mercure Newport! The cleanliness was top-notch, and the food was absolutely amazing. Huge cheers to the chefs for their excellent work! Highly recommend this hotel for a great experience.

Held the latest Kelly’s comic fair at the Mecure after using other venues in Newport. The Mecure far outshone previous events, the hotel itself is in an excellent location in the centre of Newport and the interior is extremely nice. The staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them, I’d like to mention Lindsay and Trewr who were both absolute stars. Would recommend the Mecure and will definitely be using them again. Also lovely place for a drink or a meal, open to the public no need to stay there.

Everyone has been extremely helpful, especially Prabha who served me dinner.

Fantastic hotel, staff all lovely and go out off there way to make sure you enjoy your stay. Hotel stunning within walking distance off all transport and city centre. Restaurant was beautiful with fantastic food. Will return again. Alex on reception was a star.

Conveniently located in the City centre, really well decorated and appointed throughout. Friendly staff, lovely rooms and great bar / restaurant. Highly recommended.

Lovely hotel ideally located my son and myself were here for a football match it was only a short walk to the stadium. The hotel is also handy for the town and parking is close by.

Rooms are incredibly and Modern. I stayed on the 15th floor with the most amazing view. Superb shower room. Rooms are extremely clean and our floor housekeeping, once again, so attentive and helpful. Met and greeted by the most personable, amicabe, welcoming and polite Mr Alex at reception followed by the extremely professional and helpful Manager Mr Trevvor. Both credit to ACCOR and their staff who make the entire hotel experience memorable.

Nothing is too much trouble and all dietary needs are met with ease. Thank you

We came to visit family & celebrate my daughter’s birthday 🥳 The hotel is very impressive & the rooms done to a high spec. We had a lovely view from the 5th floor. The staff are great. They made my daughter’s birthday 🎂 There was a dog (made out of towels) & birthday card to greet us in the room. At breakfast they presented her with a waffle plate especially made up for her birthday!! Thank you so much 💜

I was amazed how nice this hotel was. Iv stayed in 5* hotels and they have not be anywhere close to this one. The room was clean and tidy, the bed was like mine at home. I would definitely recommend it.

Great Hotel Great rooms Great location - for such pity gym and no car park

Beautiful hotel, but could have a few more small amenities in rooms 🤍 My fiancé and I had a beautiful stay at the Mercure Hotel when attending Wales for a church convention. Location - The hotel is located in the city centre in Newport and it’s very close to the Friars Shopping Centre and Newport Food Market (4 minute walk). Parking is not available onsite but it’s a short walk to the nearest car park which is very handy (7 minute walk). Staff - The hotel staff were lovely! Main desk were so polite regardless of it being a busy check-in period over the weekend. I didn’t catch her name but to the person who wished us a lovely stay, we appreciate your kindness. Zero qualms with check in or check out 😊 View - We were very lucky to be on one of the higher floors facing the beautiful hills and nature of Wales. The sunrise was also a beautiful touch to witness! Bedroom - EVERYTHING WAS SO CLEAN! Spotless in fact, so kudos to the hotel staff for the upkeep - especially after a busy day out. The bed was extremely soft and comfortable. Windows don’t open (which is understandable as it’s very high floor) but the A/C definitely worked! It was cool when needed, and nice and toasty for the cooler evenings. The rooms must also be very soundproof because I couldn’t even hear a peep of any talking in corridors, next door, traffic outside, or anything so we had a very peaceful stay. Unfortunately, there was no fridge, or small things like biscuits in the room which were the only things I’d suggest adding (especially for the price), but other than this there were main essentials such as a kettle (tea and coffee), iron, iron board, wardrobe space, TV, etc. Bathroom - Small but very aesthetically pleasing! The interior design for the bathroom was stunning. Nice light-up mirror, beautiful lighting (for makeup lovers), and a nice roomy shower - and, again, everything was CLEAN!!! We love that 🧼 They’ve gone green so no shower caps or nail files etc in the bathroom which was unfortunate but these things can be requested from the main desk downstairs. Restaurant/Bar - The Restaurant/Bar area looked very lovely and roomy, and had a very quick service. We ended up ordering in breakfast but I’d love to try the hotel food some time. Overall, this is a beautiful hotel with amazing interior placed quite randomly in the middle of a shopping area but nonetheless, we had a very comfortable stay and would recommend for couples for a quick weekend stay. 🤍

I haven't yet stayed at the hotel but I needed the hotel to show some flexibility with a booking I had made and they were fantastic. They didn't just fall back on their T&Cs, they showed understanding and flexibility. Thank you to Sian from Reservations. I will definitely stay at the hotel in the future!

Went to the roof top bar on the 3rd floor. Lovely little haven in the city. Staff friendly and efficient with service. They give out blankets on chilli evenings.

I had a wonderful 8 days in Newport, great base to explore RSPB Wetlands, Caerleon, Cardiff and the coast from there. Train station 5 mins walk and regular trains to Cardiff Central. Lots of restaurants bars and shops in Newport. The hotel and rooms are well designed, my room had lovely view of the river and had everything I needed. Very clean. Fab shower. Restaurant on 3rd floor served good food and had a nice ambience and staff so friendly. Breakfast has a good choice. Restaurant would have been even better without the background music especially at breakfast. The best thing about this hotel is the staff, they are friendly, kind and helpful and went out of their way to ensure I had a good stay and I was happy. Reception always welcomed you with a cheery smile. Thank you all especially Prabha, Stacey, Abhijith, Natalie, Tas, Alex and Paul and Joe.

Everything here is on point. The staff are lovely. The Welsh cakes to welcome us in is a brilliant idea. Amazing guys. Well done 👍✅

I have stayed here many times now. The hotel is really well located for all amenities, rooms are comfortable and all staff are always really friendly and helpful.

Came on a family vacation for a night and it was nothing that I was expecting. Staff was amazing, food was amazing, views from the rooms are brilliant but it can get very busy in the surrounding area during weekdays as it is in the center of Newport City Center but apart from that, amazing hotel, would definitely return in the future.

Absolutely amazing hotel cannot fault this at all. Came for 2 nights with my wife for her birthday weekend, absolutely stunning views and very friendly staff. Would 100% visit again.

Said they allow all pets. I asked for clarity that this included cats and was told no, only dogs…then when pushed they said only guide dogs? Felt like a cover for not having a solid rule in place. Very unprofessional.

Only problem is no coach parking close

Mercure is a very nice hotel in the heart of Newport. Amazing view of the town and river front from the hotel. Lots of restaurants and pubs within a minute walk.

Room was lovely, easy access to parking, shops etc Unfortunately getting a receipt was a problem, it would seem a carrrier pigeon would quicker than email!

Fabulous team who go above and beyond...I left something at the hotel and they were very willing to post it back to me - thank you so much.

Top spot for shopping and Dining out.
