Hungry Elephant Indian Takeaway in Newport

I’m not a great fan of Indian food, but this food is just next level! The service is off the charts! And the place is nicely decorated. I really recommend to try this place out, it will be worth it.

Best in town. Fall in love ❤️ with their food. We ordered chicken biryani, chicken tikka curry, and egg fried rice yesterday and we cant wait to have again. very mouthwatering 😍 and they serve the fresh food only. The “Hungry Elephant” is one of a kind. ❤️

I’ve had a few takeaways from here and have always been impressed. The online ordering system is efficient and it allows you to add comments to each dish which is handy if you want one hotter than the others. Recommended!

If Carlsburg did Indian takeaways this would be the one! I use this Indian takeaway when I am in the area and it never disappoints. Freshly prepared food, extensive menu, wonderful flavours. It’s undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best place in the area to go for Indian cuisine.

Consistently create the best curries I’ve ever had! They work so hard to give you the best service even on their busiest night New Year! Please open a restaurant soon! 😃

First time ordering. Arrived late and cold. Still tasted good after we microwaved it.

Take away order, keen to try this take away as not had from here before. Really upset to be given meat samosas and not the veggie ones I’d ordered. The samosas were marked vegetarian on the bag. Contacted the restaurant via their facebook page and no response. So beware if you are a veggie (or even if you just want to get the food you actually ordered and paid for!) as they clearly have no systems to separate or properly identify food.

Chicken tikka masala - need I say more!!

When it comes to take outs I’m quite fussy in what I eat but this by far is My absolute favourite go to Indian takeaway… never had a bad meal from here. Their pakoras are the nicest I have tasted and the garlic chilli chicken I had this evening was mouthwatering and super tasty😋 The staff couldn’t be more friendlier if they tried 10/10. Can’t wait for my next meal 🤤

Had a takeaway from here tonight. Lovely food we highly recommend, ordered and delivered within an hr. Service from delivery man very good. Will be having another meal sooner rather than later.

We recently moved to Llantarnam and were scouring Uber Eats in search of an Indian restaurant with decent vegan options when we came across Hungry Elephant. We took a chance on it and it did NOT disappoint. Food arrived on time and was fresh and hot. The onion bhajis looked so good that we were taking bites out of them before we'd even started dishing anything out. They turned out to be some of the best bhajis I've eaten, while the Bombay aloo and saag chana aloo I ordered were both great and full of flavour. My vegetarian partner ordered a vegetable korma with low expectations but was giving it rave reviews - thick and creamy with good quality, perfectly cooked vegetables. If pushed, the only minor gripe is that the vegan options are primarily drier dishes like chanas, dals, aloo gobi etc. I'd also generally consider them sides rather than main dishes. Hopefully Hungry Elephant can branch out into veganising more of their menu as I feel like a vegan madras or vindaloo from this place would be unbelievable. Nonetheless, I was happy to have clearly labelled options and everything I got was superb! We will definitely be ordering again.

Extremely bland and underwhelming, don’t recommend. Paratha wasn’t flaky at all, bhindi bhuna was just bland okra in oil (no sort of bhuna sauce sauce?), chickpea starter was also very bland in soggy oily bread. No spice in any of the dishes whatsoever, only nice thing was the chilli mango chutney. It also gave me a dodgy stomach 👎

Have to say we have used Hungry Elephant twice now since moving to the area before Christmas and it's the best curry I think I have ever tasted We had a longer than usual wait for delivery and had to call to chase but even then as soon as the food arrived it was so good any frustration was quickly forgotten about, the food is just that darned good! Got to be honest I don't know how I will ever order from anywhere else again!

Well the normal brilliant service and quality food what a joke to night food didn’t arrive within the time frame stated phone to be told it would be there within 2 minutes ten minutes later not here so when driver arrived I refused food now for my refund.

Ordered from here ever since we found it. Got to say Ive always enjoyed the food, quick delivery, Polite people to deal with. Tonight was my only problem (no fault of the company) their driver let them down and one was off so when I rang to say my order was quite late and I'm starving lol, I could tell it was hectic there. Anyway It took a bit longer still but just as I was giving up hope, the owner himself (didn't take his name but thank you by the way) turned up with a refund and my meal! It was also delicious as usual :) I totally understand Takeaway companies have problems and things get mixed up, late, but how many would the boss deliver himself with your money back and your meal?? Friendly, helpful staff, my curry was suppose to be hot with naga chillies but it was bland, my mum's was full of flavour and if anything hotter.

Discovered this place a few months ago and have been travelling from Usk every week to taste new dishes. Absolutely by a mile the best Indian food we have tasted. Quality meat fantastic thick luxury sauces and great service keep up the great work.

I'm lucky I found this place about half a year ago. Having tried many Indian takeaways over the years in Newport, I can say, the Hungry Elephant is hands down the best 1 I've had. Doesn't matter if you have chicken/lamb or the paneer, every dish is packed with flavour. The chefs in this place, can seriously cook!. I recommend the chicken pathia. So good it is. Always look forward to having food from here. Great staff, friendly and always willing to accommodate my partners dietary needs

Delivery was a hour later than my delivery time (I live 9 mins away ) if I knew it would take this long I would of picked it up , food was Luke warm borderline cold and chips seemed like they had been reheated in the microwave ,, very disappointed to be honest , won’t order from here again .

Second and last time I will use these. Curry sauce quite nice but curry needed to be reheated. Chicken dry and poppadoms smashed to bits on arrival. Seriously disappointed

Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with Hungry Elephant. I had to phone to chase my meal which was an hour late, then I realised that there was an item missing, took several attempts to get through and then I found a foreign object in my meal of which I could not report as I think my number was blocked, very unhappy. I did finally get through the next evening, to be told that refund for missing item had been processed and a voucher for £10 was posted for the inconvenience but then I explained about the foreign object and have heard nothing since after texting and emailing photos as requested. I did ask for a refund but was refused, terrible service will never use again

My husband and I both think that our food was amazing, would even go as far as to say that it was the best curry I’d ever eaten. We didn’t go to the restaurant but had the food delivered.

Decided to give this a try as I live around the corner. I have always been loyal to another Curry house in Newport and thought it couldn't be beaten. I'm glad I was proven wrong. This place is incredible, the flavours are incredible, the staff were friendly and the service was fast. Also happens to be right next to a Spar and fuel station which is ideal for a on the way home pick up. Try the Green Masala and the chilli mango chutney you won't be disappointed.

We had a take away delivered from Hungry Elephant. They have a dedicated vegan part of the menu which made choosing items really easy and the amount of choice we had was fantastic! I also have a nut allergy and the manager phoned me back personally to confirm that they don’t use nuts on site. The food was delicious and service was great. They will definitely be our go to curry from now on.

My husband (Luke) & I happened to be driving past this take away and thought we’d give it a try. The owner brought our food out to the car and introduced himself. This went a long way for customer service! When we got home the food was delicious. Tonight, we ordered a home delivery. I’m a vegetarian & Luke ordered a meat dish, both meals were excellent, very tasty! This take away, has excellent customer service and goes above and beyond! The food speaks for itself. Delicious!

Hands down the tastiest Indian food I've had in Newport! Full of flavour, lovely aroma and all round delicious.. The man I spoke to on the phone was very helpful, and the delivery driver was so polite and friendly.. Overall 100% Satisfaction from us. Look forward to ordering again.

Visited this takeaway twice (May 2021 and December 2020). Both occasions were on an early Saturday evening and they are very busy. We turned up as it was on our way home and waited in the tiny car park for about 15 minutes each time. Very good food with a wide selection only problem for me was the 10 vegan choices have garlic and/or onions in them which my body cannot tolerate well. They give a good discount because we didn't take delivery.

Just popped in for a vegan biryani and it was delicious, I can’t wait to try out the rest of the vegan menu and will be coming again. The staff are also very friendly and the place is neat and clean.

First time we have been there and the last.Chips and rice cold. Phoned and complained told that the meals are ready 15mins before collection, didn't want to know, begrudgingly gave us a small amount of money back...won't be ordering again.

This take away deserves the 5 star's, the best vegan menu around. The food was awesome and at a reasonable price. Will definitely be my first choice Indian restaurant. Would defo recommend.

Hungry Elephant is clearly a popular place already, it seemed quite busy yesterday (saturday night) but everything was fantastic, so efficient and order picked up on time. Food was fantastic, and good sized portions. Thank you!

This is the best Indian Takeaway around. The ingredients and flavours are top quality. We tried food from here on new year's Eve and gone back a couple of times since as it is sooo delicious. So happy to have a tasty and reasonably priced take away.

Well worth a visit. Decided to try out this relatively new Indian Takeaway and was certainly not disappointed. The portion sizes were great and the flavours were even better. Highly recommend trying. Easy to order online too.

Only just opened, gave it a go. Ordered online for small discount and gave about 2 hours notice but it was a large meal and was alas 30 mins late even though they're 500 yds away!! Never-the-less good value for money, large selection, their web-site...

A new Indian takeaway in Ponthir. Able to order on line and collect at a designated time, with 15 minute time slots. The menu is extensive and the food was really tasty. A great Indian takeaway, highly recommended 👍🏽
