The Orchard Inn in Taunton Deane

Came here for the first time today and while the food is very expensive for the portion size(it was child size at best ) it was nice. We came on a Sunday and they do have a limited menu so if you are a fussy eater like me and don’t want a roast I wouldn’t reccomend coming on a Sunday I think it was £16 we paid for just one small roast I personally won’t be back I mean I don’t know what they portion sizes would be like during the week but I don’t think i would risk it.

My friend and I popped in for an impromptu drink and I have to say the landlord made us so welcome ! We had a right old giggle as my friend wanted ginger beer and landlord seemed to pull one out of thin air . I’ve eaten there before and it was really nice .

Website said pub was open until 10.30. Arrived about 8.00. Chap came steaming over as we arrived and said we couldn't come in as he was shutting at 8.00. Was pretty off hand when I pointed out the website said otherwise. Second time this has happened to us. Not sure any of us will be trying again.

The venue was hired for my step fathers wake with buffet. The funeral party arrived and the staff were still laying out the food. The buffet consisted of hot and cold food. Roast potatoes dripping in fat, frozen chips, deep fried sausages and rolls with megre fillings. it was very bland and unattractive to the eye. Some of the funeral party complained over the bar but nothing was changed, several emails have been sent to the Orchard, most went ignored but one was replied to saying that the buffet was standard for the price paid. £8.45 was charged per head for this very unsatisfying display and poor quality food. Gluten free dishes were also requested, but these were not labelled and it was pot luck what our Coeliac guests ate, this could have been disastrous had they eaten anything that disagreed with them. The Orchard showed very little respect or care for our complaints and offered nothing in way of an apology or compensation for the embarrassment to our guests on that very sad day. I will never return or recommend this venue.

Great food with the family. All meals were excellent. Lovely staff and very dog friendly, could sit anywhere- water bowl and treats.

We've been popping up to The Orchard frequently since lockdown was eased to allow outdoor drinking only. It has been a treat, bearing in mind 3 other pubs locally have not opened due to it not being financially vaible to run a pub outdoors only during a wet and cold British spring. For that we are grateful. There has always been heated seating areas, and the table service has been fast and enthusiastic. The beer has been cold and plentiful, and the food great. Thanks from us. Very much appreciated in very challenging times for everyone, particularly the hospitality industry.

I have to say I have been to this pub before a handful of times and have always been satisfied. However, I visited with family last week and must say I was most disappointed, we of course sat in the garden and it was like being in some sort of rowdy club! it’s a good job I don’t have young children!!! Very sweary and rude loud groups! I was also disappointed with the food and service! The boy who served us was most rude seemed like he didn’t want to be there like it was a effort to do anything! And when our food came we were never asked if we wanted any sauces or even asked how our meal was! Well, it was definitely not to a great standard. A real shame I must say. I won’t be visiting again or recommending as I have done before.

We went for a birthday celebration in The Orchard a week ago, seven of us. It was their first night back doing food, 4 of us opted for the steak, 2 for the homemade pizza and a burger. Absolutely tasty, tender flame grilled sirloin steak, all of them cooked to perfection, delicious pizza with generous toppings and a scrumptious burger. Thank you very much, we shall see you again

I visited your pub this evening 12.02.2020 for a meal with my mum. We were told to choose a place to sit as we were the only ones in there at that point. The waitress that saw to us seemed very pleasant and had a smile on her face throughout. I ordered the burger which came with fries, salad and onion rings. All was fine until I noticed a dead fly on one of the onion rings. The waitress was very apologetic and took my food back to the kitchen. She then came back out and asked if I wanted to replace my entire meal or just the onion rings. I chose to have just the onion rings replaced which was fine. I was very disappointed that when coming to pay for the bill I wasn’t even offered any kind of discount or even a free drink/dessert to say sorry for what had happened. Unfortunately I won’t be returning.

Nice good eatery, good varied menu, took a while to get our order in , & get it , but was all ok when we got our food, but could have been a lot hotter

We booked lunch for our Mother's birthday, just a small group. The menu was excellent, we've eaten there many and, as usual, we weren't disappointed. However the waiter leaves much to be desired. Not for the first time he was rude and off hand. His greeting was "the kitchen closes in 7 minutes and we close at 3pm. The website is a bit misleading on restaurant times but even so, he has a strange attitude to customers, I also heard him being rude to another table when they asked for deserts. It won't stop us using The Orchard but it wouldn't be our first choice now.

Food was lovely but service was a bit slow to start with when they were busier. Got given menus then, after sometime, someone came to take out food order but we still hadn’t been offered. Service got better as the restaurant thinned out and we had a very enjoyable experience and will be back.

Had a very enjoyable evening here with friends. All four of us were pleased with the choice and quality of food. Will hope to come again when visiting our friends in Somerset.

We visited this place for lunch with friends and were served drinks and after a while the menus arrived and we ordered and we sat talking when we realised we had been waiting over an hour so we checked about availability of food as others had come and been served only to be told it would be another 15/20 minutes so we decided to leave because of the casual could not care less we received. We went to another place well received and meal in quick time. I was so embarrassed taking friends there

Very friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Sadly our food could have been hotter. My chicken curry was lukewarm.

Food was good, little short of seasoning, good price, and enjoyable.Table of 6 our meals took about 5 minutes to reach us and that made us wait to all start together.Staff were not interactive with us customers, did not ask if all was ok with the food, once finished our food, the table took a while before it was cleared.The staff were not dressed smartly and could quiet easily pass as a customer.

Stopped off on our way too Cotleigh Brewery in Wiveliscombe for a Trad Jazz evening. Very conveniently starts food at about 17:30, allowing time to enjoy relaxing meal. Usual friendly enthusiastic greeting and given menus. My two friends predictable in their choices !! And I had curry of the day, which in the event was too “peppery” for my taste, as I prefer the more subtle spicy flavours, was only able to eat half of it, the others all cleaned their plates enjoying their choices. Good friendly service. Will no doubt revisit.... good value pub grub.

Went the other night with friends. Practically empty. Food smacked of processed crap. The bad language from what seemed to be the "locals" side of the bar was disgusting. Will NEVER go there again.

Visited 04/05/19 for dinner. Service was friendly and efficient. The food was lovely and reasonably priced which made the overall visit a great experience. We shall visit again very soon.

Four of us, total age 310 years. We have been to this pub half a dozen times over 3years. This was the best experience. It was a very busy lunchtime service, 30 + punters, no problem, slick efficient service. Attentive without being poncey! We had the 'deal of the day' menu, two courses, wide choice for c.£11 per head.

I met up with an old friend and boss of mine and I chose this place to eat as had good reviews and I liked the sound of it. Well it was even better than I imagined. The food was excellent. We had a carvery and was highly recommended the orange curd cheesecake by the wonderful young waitress who couldn't have praised it enough as she had some the night before. We went for it. Absolutely fantastic. The service by all the staff was brilliant and the place is lovely with a wonderful outside area although we stayed inside. Wasn't quite the right weather for it. I can't wait to go back. Book in advance and on the day get there early so you can park as it's very popular. A big thanks to all the staff

Lovely ambiance and great food. Really enjoyed the evening. The menu isn't huge, but I think that's a good thing.... the food we all had was tasty, well cooked and presented and the sweet potato chips were just yummy!!

I Visited this pub on New Year’s Eve with a group of friends. No complaints at all, the service both at the bar and our table was excellent. I had the steak and it was perfectly cooked, easily one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Everyone enjoyed the meals and deserts they ordered. This pub has a very good reputation locally and I’m glad to say it did not disappoint. We picked a great way to end 2018.

Went for lunch on Boxing Day, with my wife and mother-in-law. We got there at midday, not many in there then. We had reserved but we're allowed to sit at any table that wasn't reserved, as we hadn't been allocated a table!? Anyway, we sat and were served immediately. Drinks were ordered and by the time they were served we were ready to order our meals. I asked for the curry, my wife had the sea bass, and the mother-in-law had scampi. All came in good time, were well presented and were very tasty. The waiting staff were very attentive and courteous. My wife and I had the profiteroles and mother-in-law had a scoop of ginger ice cream. All were excellent. All in all a very good visit and by the time we left the place had filled up, in bother the bar and eating areas.

We booked a table for 5 for lunchtime on Sunday 25/11/18. On arrival we were greeted very cheerfully. The staff were very smiley and attentive throughout. We all chose the Carvery. We were pleasantly surprised at the generosity of the choice of meats being served. I had perfectly cooked beef and those who had the pork said it was ‘ melt in the mouth ‘. The desserts were also lovely. We could not fault the meal at all. I do just need to mention that we all felt that the Inn was a little chilly which was a bit uncomfortable for my parents in particular, and also meant that the lovely meal soon lost its warmth, so please put the heating up a fraction to make it a perfect destination!!!!

Recently visited the orchard as I heard that it had new owners I was not disappointed I had pan fried lambs liver which was superb the pub had a friendly atmosphere and staff were excellent will definitely return

Visited 13/11/18 for dinner. After a warm welcome we were seated and our drinks order was swiftly served. The young lady and gentleman who served us were both very polite and cheerful. The menu though not huge had something for everyone. We all ordered different dishes and were impressed with the taste and quality. We all agreed we shall return very soon.

6 of us had a booking after hearing they were doing Sunday carvery's again. We are regular carvery goers to various places so thought we we try this out. Very impressed, possibly the best carvery we have had this year. Will definitely be booking again in the next few weeks. I couldn't comment on other meals as we have not had them yet but the atmosphere and pub setting is very good also.

Staying nearby so a visit to the Orchard was essential as it was so close and the weather was bad.

Second visit to this pub , food is top quality and very reasonable in price. Front of house service is good and the menu is wide ranging with 2-3 specials. Excellent value for money in pleasant surroundings. Highly recommended

Last Sunday we were looking for somewhere to go for a carvery and The Orchard was recommended. We booked and we really enjoyed the afternoon. Even though we could only be accommodated at 2.30pm, the carvery was outstanding.

We were visiting friends and they had been advised this was the place to grab a Sunday carvery so we got them to book, a good idea as it was busy. Their is plenty of space inside and out and all staff are welcoming and put you at ease immediately. The drink choice was good with a nice mix for all tastes and budgets, sadly I was designated driver but everyone else enjoyed theirs.

Had a couple of great meals here recently, including a Sunday roast. Both were excellent. Outside area is great in the summer to enjoy food and a drink. Lovely venue.

We stopped here for a meal on Monday early evening, what a gem this place is the man behind the bar was very pleasant and helpful & the food excellent.

Staying locally on holiday and past this pub a few times so decided to pop in for a drink.

About 18 of us came for lunch after having pre-ordered. The food was tasty but came staggered as our group was quite big for the place. Hot lunches and sandwich selections were all good and were served by friendly staff in a relaxed armosphere.

We were passing through Taunton and wanted to have a Sunday lunch, Google threw up The Orchard Inn for a carvery so we took a slight detour and gave it a go.

We stopped in whilst driving through on the way to a wedding. Made to feel extremely welcome by the bartender who was a lovely young guy.

This is the first time i have been here and what a lovely surprise, The atmosphere was so relaxing and the staff were very friendly it was nice to be able to look through the menu without being hurried. There was a good selection of starters i had the fried brie with cranberry sauce which was delicious and a good size. For main i had the liver bacon and onions a bed of mashed potatoes red wine gravy and veg and the nice thing is that if you dont have a big appetite you can have a smaller helping and to finish had an Irish coffee perfect. There is a lovely garden. Will definitely be going again.

We used to go here over 10 years ago for a Sunday Carvery, the place was okay but nothing special. So we had a very pleasant surprise when we arrived here again to find the Orchid tastefully refurbished. (It used to be known as the Royal Oak.) The menu was very comprehensive and the food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. If you dine here you will not be dissapointed.

Super ambience at The Orchard this evening. New menu looks great, the veggie lasagne was delicious and my friends enjoyed the pork belly, looked succulent. As always Marina, Jason and the young ladies helping are super. Thank you!

We met family members here for a Sunday lunch after a drive from Bideford. We had 2 carveries and 2 meals from the menu. The carvery was excellent value for money

With so many places closed on a Monday, The Orchard Inn proved to be a very good choice. Friendly greeting, given choice of table and prompt delivery of drinks while looking at the menu. The avocado starter was good, as were both Liver and Bacon/lasagne mains. Relaxing pace of the service leaving plenty of time for conversation and no pressure. Sound from the bar suggested this was also being well supported.

Four of us visited this restaurant on Saturday evening for dinner. The staff were excellent and couldn’t do enough for you. Three of us chose the liver, bacon and onions on mash and one had the salmon special with salad. We each had individual vegetable dishes with our liver and everything was cooked to perfection. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and highly recomnended

We were in Taunton for a weeked attending our friends wedding. Our friends took all their guests out to The Orchard Inn on Friday for a meal the night before the wedding and i must say it was very nice, first time i finished my plate as it was just enough.

The pub has reopened the Carvery on Sundays, I took the wife and son for a carvery today, and its the first time I've eaten on a Carvery on a Sunday for a very long time and have already rebooked before we left, as the food was so delicious and superb value.

We had a fantastic meal here! The staff were all very polite and really accommodating. We had a wheelchair user...

There were six of us, of which three enjoyed the carvery and three ordered from the menu. Those who enjoyed the carvery were sure that they had made the right choice and the rest of the party was wrong. Those of us who ordered from the menu felt exactly the same way. Bottom line, we all enjoyed our meals to the fullest. I would highly recommend the Orchard Inn and we will go there again. And by the way, the prices are reasonable as well. All good!

When I asked a friend from work for a recommendation on where to eat for a special occasion this was the first place they suggested as they have been themselves and never had any complaints about the food or service.

Booked here for news year day meal , even though we live near haven’t been here for years but was really surprised we all had a lovely meal and carvery and will deff be back, all the meals were so fresh and service was great

After over stretching ourselves on a walk we happened upon the Orchard Inn in Hillcommon. A welcoming site, good beer and exceedingly helpful and friendly staff. They tried everything to help us find a taxi home.

This is a really nice pub/restaurant the food was smashing,I especially liked the smaller appetite options on certain meals, you don't often see that when eating out and is a real plus, I had steak it was one of the best I have eaten in a restaurant, staff were very friendly and brought a bowl of water for our dog, the outside from the front doesn't do justice to the back where there is a lovely garden and outside tables. Will definitely return when next in the area.......

Ive been a local but the new management enjoy customer interaction. its great to see the Carvery back a relaxed atmosphere its worth a visit, I bet you return its worth it

We were a party of 7 and we all enjoyed our meal. The starters, mains and puds all well presented and tasted great. Friendly staff but service was quite slow, especially as we were here on a tuesday night and not alot of other people in. The menu although nice could be a little more extensive. Was nice and clean and very comfortable, will definitely be back again

Due to Road works on approach to normal eatery on way to Wivey Jazz at Cotleigh Brewery, we booked an early table here for 17:30. Friendly greeting on arrival, drinks ordered taken and given menu. Varied selection, including several before 19:00 options, one of which suited our small appetite lady. Were offered chance to pick any table and food arrived soon after sitting down. All very relaxed and friendly in good surroundings.

We visited Orchard Inn following a trip on the West Somerset Railway. We booked in advance but was running late so rang to advise and they were very accommodating and said just to get there when we could.The menu for Sunday lunch was great as we aren't always wanting a carvery and there was a great selection to choose from. We had the prawns and Brie to start and then both had the burger but got serious food envy at all the other food coming out to other tables, the roasts looked amazing. The Brie wedges were generous in size and there was a good helping of prawns. The burgers were homemade and very tasty, although I wasn't keen on the onions that were in them. We really wanted a pudding but we're so full we couldn't manage it.I would highly recommend it and hope to visit again.

We had a birthday celebrstion meal here for 14 people, age range 14 to 80! We were all very pleased with our meals and the service provided. I would recommend The Orchard for good value food of excellent quality.

We arrived for lunch without a reservation, but were greeted by two very friendly front of house staff and invited to take any free table we wished. There were a few people in the restaurant, but we still had a good number of tables to choose from, as it was not too busy. We ordered the liver, bacon and onions and the scampi and chips. It is nice to see smaller portions offered for those with smaller appetites, as so often food is either wasted or you have to go to the children's menu if you are not a big eater.Our food arrived promptly on proper plates which were nicely warmed. The scampi may have been a smaller portion, but it was still generous. The accompanying chips were very good - crispy outside and fluffy inners. The liver was cooked perfectly, with nice bacon and well cooked onions. The mash and red wine gravy were also good, as were the generous selection of vegetables.£24 for the two meals and two soft drinks was good value and we were very pleased we chose to visit the Orchard for lunch.

Popped in to the Orchard for the first time tonight after driving passed it every day for the past 2 years and we were very glad we did!We had a couple of pints and a packet crisps sat in the relaxing beer garden and they are really dog friendly too, my doggy was even given a couple of gravy bones!We will definitely be back, hopefully for food next time as the restaurant area looks lovely.

Nice food, fast service, sensible pricing, relaxing atmosphere. Ideal location out of town for a meal, indoors or out on the patio.

The food is absolutely fantastic ever since the new couple have taken over. Friendly staff, they couldn't do more to help you. Best roast meal I have had in years and everything I have ever eaten there has been wonderful. Top marks from me and all of my family.

Been on a couple of different occasions, food is always piping hot, fresh and delicious! Service is good too and prices good for the portion size and quality!

Since the new owners took over the menu id bland and there is no imagination in the food presentation and the quality is poor.The new couple re not people focused and only interested in serving quickly, getting your money and not even an good bye and thank you for your custom.

Had a lovely meal here last evening. There was seven in our party and all the meals were superb . I had Duck in orange sauce sweet potatoes chips and selection of fresh veg really delicious and plenty of meat. The new landlord and landlady are so friendly and it's such a lovely pub just for a drink which has a beautiful garden and a under cover seating area with heaters . Very enjoyable evening .

On a quiet Tuesday lunchtime, after waiting over an hour for a couple of panniniswe gave up and asked for the bill for our drinks.One member of staff said something about the pannini machine was broken and that it wasn't her fault.The "manager" turned his back on me when I asked him why they hadn't bothered to tell us they had a problem.

Went to the orchard with a few friends for a steak. We ended up having a 32oz and can honestly say it was perfect, we could not fault the food or service in any way. We are already planning the next visit.

Great pub come restaurant. Went here recently with my family for a quiet evening meal. Food was great and service pretty good. Good selection of beers as well. It's a well decorated and comfortable place to eat

Thought we'd have an lovely Friday evening meal together, unfortunately my meal was sent back (tagliatelle courgettes, mushrooms in a wine sauce) as there were no courgettes in the dish. By the time my husband nearly finished eating they came back with my pasta dish to eat, then they had thrown a few courgettes in but there were only 4 slices of mushrooms, absolutely terrible for nearly £11. We never had deserts went to pay and they charged us full price, the lady there was not at all apologetic, maybe this happens regularly! There are far better places to eat, I for one will not be going there again.

Really good food and helpful staff. Very hot day and the outdoor patio area was too hot so we moved tables. I made a mistake with my order - they fixed it quickly and without bother. Would certainly recommend, extensive menu choice, very nice interior looks a good place to eat in the eveningsThank you

Visited recently with a party of 5 and 2 dogs. They were very accommodating and friendly. The food was so tasty. 4 of us had the duck, which was so large none of us could finish it (but the dogs appreciated the doggy bag)! My husband had the steak which was cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend this place.

We just went in for Sunday lunch. First they served my partner a pint of lager and it was full of black specs. He sent it back and the barman gave him two more dirty pints before we felt silly sending the pint back for a fourth time - it seemed like the lines hadn't been cleaned in weeks. We orders baked Camembert which came out cold twice! After that we cancelled our order and left. They gave the impression they didn't actually want any customers! And did nothing to try and rectify the mistakes.I will not return or recommend.

Excellent food. Very friendly and attentive staff. Unable to go to a pub that we had previously visited as it was undergoing refurbishment we decided to give "The Cottage" a try. We were very pleasantly surprised by how pleasant the venue was. Comfortable dining area with outside space. Dogs on leads welcomed though we didn't have one. The guy behind the bar was very attentive and the waiting staff were similarly friendly.Excellent "home cooked" food with fresh vegetables. Would definitely recommend and we will be back.Management is changing so I just hope they keep up this standard. If they do it will become very popular in time as the word spreads.

We visited last night for dinner and had a very good meal. Staff were very attentive and pleasant. There were 4 of us in our party and two decided to get the Orchard Platter to share as a starter. Luckily the other 2 of us decided we would just order main courses as when the platter arrived it was huge! Ham,pate, salad olives etc and so all four of us tucked in and there was plenty to go around and delicious! The mains were also very generous and well cooked. I had the curry of the day which I thoroughly enjoyed. My husband had Ham egg and chips- it arrived with 3 eggs! We all very much enjoyed our food, service was great just a shame none of us had room for pudding! Would definitely return- I'm surprised it wasn't busier as food quality and value for money was very good. Thank you for a very pleasant evening!

Went to go here for dinner, as it is close to the digs were staying at whilst away from home for work. At 6.30 we walked down looking forward to some food after work, but it was cloaed with no explaination as to why??

Feedback. ..Visit 26/2 14:50.Empty pub bar about 3 people Ordered food, took a while to be served mind.was informed no beef, ok we shall try something else. .Food came out....Warm food not hot. Roast potatoes I thought we're meant to be crispy these looked like they'd been reheated and were awful. We left them...Chicken ok, pork overcooked. No parsnips as stated...Red cabbage tasted like someone had poured a load of vinegar on...All in all not a nice meal...Desserts well we'd never heard of these fancy things, what happened to good old fashioned cheesecake etc. ..This place used to be our fav place to eat.We will not return.Hungry horse would of been more enjoyable....Not good new owners not good!!!!

We visited the Orchard with a group of 18 people and received a great service with fantastic food. Steaks were cooked to perfection and the staff were very helpful with guests who had special dietary requirements. Would highly recommend and we will certainly visit again.

The menu selection was excellent.Everything was perfect, background music, happy staff and the food we chose was wonderful. Can't recommend The Orchard enough.....Reasonable cost for a very special meal.....

One lamb sent back as it was just fat and not good quality.Three other people sent food back while we were there and said it was lamb not good.Had complimentary coffees as an apology but I think the chef should have stopped servicing lamb as two or three went back complaining about quality of it.Big shame as it was our first visit don't think we will return. Sorry.
