The Orchard at Grantley Hall in Harrogate

I have visited on a number of occasions. This time we had dinner in The Orchid restaurant. We went for a drink in the bar at Fletchers Restaurant first which was lovely but completely empty. We then went to the Orchid which again was so quiet with only 1 other table occupied. The food was delicious, although hugely overpriced at £48 for a fillet steak with a few chips and an extra £5 if you wanted peppercorn sauce. The service was unfortunately extremely slow for drinks even though the restaurant was empty.

Absolutely furious! 🤬🤬🤬🤬 So let down by Grantley hall…. We booked a leaving party meal at the beginning of November to enjoy with friends at the orchard restaurant. We thought it would be a lovely idea for Christmas as it was our last. As we live in different areas we arranged transportation ahead of time with several pick ups on route. A couple of days ago I received an email confirmation of our booking which I duly confirmed. Then yesterday a WEEK before Christmas and 48 hours before our booking I receive a telephone call from the restaurant informing me that it is over booked and our booking would need to be cancelled. 🤬🤬🤬🤬 We were offered a table in fletchers and a complimentary bottle of champagne. I explained that this was not what we had wanted as we wanted the Christmas experience and requested to know how this had happened and how they chose the people to cancel. I was advised that we were the last to book. Now I know this is an absolute fabrication as we had to amend the booking and there was plenty of availability when both myself and friend were searching online at the time. I requested to speak the manager. It took him all day to get back to me and when he finally did I was told the same story. I asked him to go back and see how this could be resolved and I still haven’t received a call back more than 12 hours later. I have tried to contact the general manager too, nothing! To say that we are all furious is an understatement. To be told the week before Christmas that your leaving party is being cancelled is completely unacceptable. I’m sure that the majority of people would agree that this is not t the 5 star service you expect from a hotel of this standard.
