The Orangery in Richmond upon Thames

The place looks nice,statues, nice lightning,but that's it.... I didn't like the rubbish on the floor,even tho was a very active staff cleaning tables,the floor was ,not great, food is average,salads are good actually,but overall very very expensive,yes, is kew gardens,but justify the price....the toilets where in such a state.....the men, probably the ladies as well,and the baby changing are was bad,the picture is from changing area.... Not great for the money you pay,also put more umbrellas outside, there's 2 big umbrellas,and everyone is cramped under

All cakes looks yum and tastes nice! If you sit and eat out, be careful when you leave the table by not putting it back the tray trolly. All the birds will destroy everything you left behind!

I passed by it and from the expressions of its visitors it seemed that it was handsome and kind.

The food was okay, but for the basics it came upto nearly £50! That's ridiculous! I could have gone to a proper restaurant and have a full blown meal and wouldn't come to that!

Beautifully laid out. Easy to see what and how to order either by service or picking off a shelf. Signage to paying desk clear and straightforward. Nice seating inside and out.

Expensive and bad only the setting is pleasant

Went in for a cup of coffee, besides it being overpriced, the milk was steamed to the point of being burnt and the cup was disgustingly dirty with dried milk flaking of it from previous uses

1 person serving the coffee area,with about 15 people in line.Gave up and used the self service machine for a cup of lukewarm brown pond water. The guy serving hot food and hair past his shoulders, no cap.Put me off buying a meal. It used to be a great place for refreshment after a day of walking around, nothing like its former self as contractors bid for running the franchise? But a nice place to sit and admire,light and airy. Probably take a flask of coffee next time.

The Orangery itself looks amazing and was a perfect place to rest and eat. The food was not great and over priced. The coffee was £3.90 and from one of those 'make it yourself machines' and tasted like it was instant. Would recommend bringing a pack lunch 👍

Very expensive and nothing ethical about the food despite claims

Good food in the light and airy orangerie with friendly service. The hot foods have 3-4 main options. The haddock was a tad well cooked but served in a tasty tomato sauce. The Korean style cauliflower came in a gigantic portion. The portobello mushroom side is always a good bet. Really enjoyed the hot chocolate; members get 20% off.

Dropped in for a quick bite to eat and left pleasantly surprised. It's not cheap (nothing in London is!) but the food was decent and the service too. The main highlight is the setting though, the building is beautiful

Only a cappuccino but very good impressions. It was warm inside but the sun was shining through the window.

Dithering staff and astronomical prices. They’d make a lot more money if they employed people who take less than 5 minutes to make a coffee.

i remember when i came here in may 2022 and there was a pigeon eating and knocking down the chocolate muffins and then we looked on in horror as a staff proceeded to put the muffins back up even though she watched them being pecked at #FineDining #Zoonosis 💋

The food is reasonable, but limited. The layout is slightly confusing, and table layout not a great use of space. We had to sit outside -fortunately the weather was ok.

There is zero signage to make clear which options were gluten free, need to be far more clear on allergens on menus, which I'm sure is a requirement of food laws. Staff were helpful but needed to be asked.

Very good and quiet breakfast! We appreciated being able to have breakfast before starting the visit to the park!

Extremely overpriced More than £4 for a frozen pain au chocolat ? (I’m French imagine my shock !) £8.50 for a tiny salad bowl ? A pack of crisps not even half full ? Slightly disappointed with the prices. The couscous salad is incredibly delicious but way too overpriced for the quantity… It’s expensive in £ and even more when you convert to € (22€ for what is basically the equivalent of a meal deal at M&S) The place itself is lovely especially when the sun is shining and the staff was nice too.

Beautiful building and surroundings. Tried to eat sausage roll and spinach roll. Both cold, stodgy and tasteless , with 2 coffees which were very average. £21 later..... Disappointing doesn't begin to explain our feelings 😕. Such a shame as a member of Kew Gardens we've never before felt the need to complain. Must be a captive market and no reason to push the boat out!

I have been going and enjoying the Orangerie for years with family and friends. On Monday 2nd December, we arrived for lunch before 2pm and it was practically closed. We were not allowed to buy even a cold drink and were sent out in a unfriendly way with the excuse that 'there were other good restaurants nearby'.

Beautiful room but do not get the spinach roll unless you want to spend £6.50 to eat a cylinder of wet cement

Beautiful spot for lunch after a lovely autumnal walk around Kew. Brilliant service and the Korean cauliflower was a definite hit. Would highly recommend!

Ridiculously overpriced food. £7.50 for a small scotch egg is mind blowing

Wonderful historic building inside Kew Gardens turned into a self service cafe Food is actually pretty good, not cheap but reasonable value.. not many organic choices.. Overall well done Kew..

After walking and shopping again, we also need to take a rest. This is a good place to have a meal and complement the dessert! The cool breeze is blowing, the blue sky and white clouds are set against the green fields, and the restaurant is as beautiful as a castle. It's so happy to eat and chat!

Kenny served us and was so kind and helpful. We had 4 small children with us. He carried all our food to the checkout and then carried it all to our table. Very kind gesture. Thank you Kenny.

Not only a lovely cuppa and sarnie but I left my bag accidentally and only remembered two hours later. Thanks a million to Kenny and Tomas who had retrieved it and kept it safe for.me. They are the best!

Visit in Kew Gardens was awesome! Unfortunately I can't say same about The Orangery cafe. We been on Sunday. Sadly our experience there were really terrifying. It was very chaotic, a lot of customers around and not enough staff!! No one know what's is going there. I saw just two guys (staff) and they seems like were working first day. Prices are not worth it for what you got..(at all). Finally we were charged £27 more then we should. Lady charged us for 3x main meal, when we took just 1. Atmosphere not friendly at all, definitely not recommended. I would not give even a 1 star.

A good place to eat if you are visiting Kew. The food is good, and not as expensive as the botanical. The hot food is ≈ 15£ and there is a lot of sandwiches and pastries. There is a vegetarian option.

A nice place to have a quick bite and rest your tired legs after a good walk through the garden.

Such a waste of a magnificent building. The seating area has been stripped off any character or quality. Resembles a cold, uninviting cantine. The food is lacking and highly overpriced, such a shame for all those visiting.

We were here for a conference, and had breakfast and lunch... Both good. Nice bacon bap and coffee... Then a good salad bar to choose from for lunch.

Don’t waste ur money here started the day off horribly and ruined the atmosphere The rudest 2 women making the coffees rolling their eyes to our question of where to pay and what milks they had, she literally rolled her eyes. Guy making the toasties put bacon on one side egg on the other on one piece of toasted bread one untoasted because he burnt one and decided not to re toast Then blonde woman at the counter (manager I think) doesn’t acknowledge we are there and is talking to another girl then does our order no smile nothing.

The opening times on Google are wrong. This caused some issues on a family day out. BEWARE! Lots of people seemed very annoyed by this today as it was very busy but they just suddenly decided to close early…

Food well below par and really overpriced even for London. Coffee from machine cold but was exchanged for a barista made coffee promptly. Nice surroundings but definitely would not eat/drink here again.

Very rude staff and extortionate prices !!

The decidedly lesser cousin of the Armouries Cafe at Tower of London (which, unlike this one, is worth going to specifically). Boring food with classy intentions. Far far better than museum for of the 90s but that's a low bar. Cafeteria style with hot and cold options. Good amount of seating, particularly if you can snag an outside table. It was fun seeing the bird feet on the umbrella above our table.

I can't comment on the food but the toilets were refurbished and clean with beautiful tiling in the cubicles and an Art Deco vibe. Had a job finding them though as the entrance is unmarked. The restaurant itself looks pretty chaotic.

Good food happy staff quiet expensive

If you're Coeliac bring your own food, nothing is labelled. No sandwiches, all cakes had gluten. Assistant showed me some lovely self service salads.. but Cross Contamination was rife with serving spoons going everywhere. She got me some fresh from the kitchen. Had it been very busy this wouldn't have been possible I'm sure. So if you don't want to go hungry while exploring the lovely Kew Gardens.. bring a picnic or eat elsewhere..(all the restaurants in the gardens looked the same)

Self service inside Kew Garden. Various culinary proposals and not bad. Very nice environment, clean bathrooms.

Restaurant and café inside Hyde Park / Reservation is required, and sometimes you can enter without reservation Palace sessions in a luxurious royal hall, but it does not have air conditioning. It is very hot on hot summer days The outdoor seating is wonderful, wonderful, but we did not succeed in sitting in it because of the sun and heat. Certainly, in the spring days, it will be a fantasy. We ordered Vegetarian Afternoon Tea with regular vanilla tea and red velvet tea for sour lovers, they might like it. Afternoon plate, first layer, various types of desserts, second layer, scones, third layer, various sandwiches. The most beautiful thing is the place It is possible, if you finish, to go around the palace garden, which is very beautiful and also a beautiful little shop

You pay a fortune and you have to queue twice while your coffee gets cold and your ice cream melts and you have to wipe down your own table if you want to sit down before everything is completely the wrong temperature.

Very expensive for very average quality food, and disinterested staff. I felt ashamed that people visiting from abroad would be subjected to such poor value for money.

Closes every day at 4:00 PM. Wasn't allowed in even at 3:55 PM. I do not recommend it.

Servers of the food were rude. She said Me and my friend weren’t in the queue when we’ve been waiting for 5 mins. Then when the people behind us in the queue vouched for us, she reluctantly served us and didn’t say sorry or anything and gave us rude glares.

Lovely place, very friendly people, nice atmosphere and great food.

It is what it is. No surprises. Very limited hot food option. Paper plates and wooden cutlery at inflated prices. Noted many nice cafes and resturants on the way to the gardens from the train station. So, coffee and a cake in kew and dinner at one of the many restaurants outside on my next visit.

Food and drink was low quality and so overpriced (even for london). Scotch egg was one of the worst i’ve ever eaten and was £7.50. Coffee is self serve and also low quality. Having said that the surrounds and building itself was lovely, shame the quality of food didn’t match.

My partner had a tuna sandwich .she was sick violently within an hour on our home trip on the under and over ground.i thought she was going to die !

Nice environment but unfortunately very expensive and poor selection. How about a very basic pre-made sandwich for £5.50? The sense of service was also completely non-existent.

Main coffee machine was broken today. We used the self service machine, which was passable. My friend enjoyed his sandwich, the pastries were okay.

We had a hot dish for £14.95. It was really good. We were pleasantly surprised because some reviews said that there wasn't much choice and the menu on the website was limited compared to what we could find on site.

AVERAGE. Not bad but rather expensive and limited choice.

Food was good, a little lack of service and it was crowded. But still beautiful and good quality.

Loved it. Got a seat right by the window with a gorgeous view. Would have been nice to have more of a cake selection, but the carrot cake was delicious.

Amazing food. Sea Bass was beautifully cooked with a perfect choice of vegetables. Sat outside but found the building work a little obtrusive.

Food was expensive for what it was but good quality. Quite hard to work out what you wanted when choosing.

Every single food dish on display looked like at least 2 days old. Food was dry and flaky, salmon had dar spots... very disappointing. Never again.

Horrible system.... 1st you have to wait for a cake, than, there's an automatic machine to make a poor coffee (only skimmed milk and oat or soy, no almond or whole milk), but, you need to wait in line to use it, there are no mugs available, only to-go ones, than, another queue line for paying. 4 cakes, 4 drinks, £32 way overpriced for the self-service. Outside tables are scratched and chipped. Cakes are tasty, though.

Lovely place to eat. However the food was school canteen food with no clean cutlery and had to wait to find any tables free.

I have been very keen to explore Kew gardens in as much detail as possible. Which includes the food and beverages services. I went into the Orangery restaurant for a lunch time meal. A lot of the food and beverages ingredients are locally sourced which was an added attraction. The Orangery restaurant was very busy and most of the tables were full. I decided to have fish but maybe next time I will try the vegetable option. The staff were all very helpful and friendly.

I like the Orangery because it's a really nice place to eat when you're at Kew. The self-service system is a bit chaotic however and can result in free very nice food being cold. It's very crowded of course which adds to the delays.

A busy place but with a reasonable food and drink offer. Plenty of tables both inside and out.

The Orangery Kew Gardens. This was the worst meal I have ever had - the meal deal eg rice, chicken or fish and 2 sides ( one of which was chips when rice was part of the deal!) It was cold and tasteless. It was very embarrassing as we had invited 2 guests. Necessary to choose cutlery carefully as not all looked very clean. The knife was not even sharp enough to cut the broccoli stems ... not that I could eat it as it was cold. Will certainly not go there again.
