The Olive in West Lindsey

Perfect place for us to spend a few days whilst attending Cadwell Park Bank Holiday weekend races. Clean, compact with all the facilities needed. The room was checked every day of our visit, which was nice + resupplying the teas and coffees etc. Pretty much in the centre of Market Rasen to shop for supplies or eat out and to explore further afield. Not too far away from the racecourse, if that's your passion.

Good place to stay in market rasen. No food. Car parking available. Well equipped and comfortable Room. Will stay again when in the area visiting family.

An ideal place for a night's stopover. Everything you need for a good night's sleep, which is all you will get as there is no other service provided. This is made clear in the description and as such offers great value for an overnight stay with no frills. Limited parking is available too.

Just perfect if all you want is a bed for the night. Superb en suite room that contains everything you need for an overnight stay.

Stayed here for 1 night while visiting our daughter who lives 6 minutes away so ideal. Lovely clean room and bathroom. Bed was comfortable. Would highly recommend

Perfect for a one night stay but disappointed that there was no breakfast when it's attached to a pub. Room had everything we needed but me and my husband are a bit deaf so couldn't hear the TV as it was set very low. Buttons on remote kept getting stuck and couldn't use one flush on toilet had to use both. But all in all for what we paid it was ok would stay there again. Ideal for the races

Fantastic place to stay clean warm and very welcoming. Lovely comfortable beds, large soft towels plenty of beverages including water and biscuits. Town a 2 minute walk away. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately the bar and restaurant were closed, as they had suffered a flood and were in the process of renovating. The rooms are situated in a stable block at the back of the property so luckily these hadn’t been affected. We had booked two rooms and both were extremely comfortable and clean. There was plenty of parking and there were pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance. We had a meal at The Advocate on the Friday night and were that impressed we returned for breakfast the next morning.

Reasonably priced, relatively well equipped. Odd buzz or hum from the plumbing. Perfect for 1/2 nights.

Had a room for our vow renewal night. The room itself was lovely but the mattress was very hard. We both woke up with a dead leg.

Excellent facilities at The Olive Rooms. Loved our stay . Fabulous hosts. Friendly and accommodating, even after the recent floodings that caused chaos for them. Ever the professionals, kept it all going. Well done. We'll be back most definately.

Great rooms with little extra's and with a great price! Breakfast is not served at this venue but there are some great venue a short walk away! Dinner is served in the bar next to the rooms which is great and quirky inside with excellent food.. Will come again! Keep up the good work The Olive Rooms..

I phoned up at 9pm on a Sunday evening asking if they had a room for the night. I had booked into another hotel locally, but it was so bad that I had to abandon the other hotel. The owners were pleasant on the phone, and I was clearly not the first person to have called up wanting out of the other hotel! The room was well priced, tidy, and properly equipped, the shower was nice too. If I stay in the area again, I'll definitely return.

Stopped here for the Market Rasen races. Ideal location, room was spotless and did a perfect job for a 1 night stopover. The tapas was amazing and the alcohol range just as good. The restaurant was modern with a rustic/Mediterranean theme to it which was a nice touch. The outdoor drinking area was also amazing which helped in the 30 degree heat. The owners and all the staff were faultless making us feel welcomed from the start and couldn’t do enough for us whilst we stayed and even had a nice chat with us towards the end of their shift which is not something you get at every place. Couldn’t recommend enough and will definitely look at stopping there again.

Stayed in one of the double rooms with wetroom shower. Rooms are a little small but very clean and nice. Very efficient booking in, no problems whatsoever! Parking available on the premises. I would definately book one of these rooms again.

Spent two night here , the rooms are very clean , the bed was new and comfortable, we slept well. We ate in the restaurant on the second night (wish we had ate there both nights ) we chose the tapas which was delicious, the owners and the staff we really friendly and efficient, the only complaint is wish it was nearer to our home 🙂

Had a family member come up from wales for a very important visit with our family booked a double room fir herself and her 9y old son who has a disability, and she was very disappointed to walk into a room with mould at the door area shower head disgusting had to be taken down and washed before use abd dust everywhere now surely in these times of covid these rooms should be in perfect order not having a mum worrying about laying her and her sons head down on the pillows as most of us would with the room being in an awful state, there recompense was 50% off next time you stay, we'll she won't be staying there again, so nothing returned only gained for the olive , not good enough

We were told as we walked in that the chief was over run and food may take a while, however when we sat down we found the restaurant was basically empty.The Food was terrible, starting with the oil and balsamic which was 90% oil. The croquets were hot on the outside but stone cold on the inside clearly heated up, muscles lacked flavour however they were okay.We had muscles and the prawns, after we had left we waited for the sickness to come from dodgy seafood however to this restaurants credit we didn’t get ill.Food was relatively cheap, assuming this is because they knew it matched the quality. The wine was the best thing about this meal, assuming because the management and chief had no involvement in the production.If you want to eat in Market Rasen, go to The Advocate

We came here for Tapas on Saturday afternoon during a weekends stay in Market Rasen, everything was absolutely lovely! The staff were really friendly, chatty and helpful - even making me a cocktail that wasn't on the menu after a discussion about favourite cocktails. The food was delicious, we shared 5 tapas dishes and couldn't fault any of them - tasty and really nicely presented. We declared ourselves fit to burst but were then tempted by the desserts on offer and so managed to squeeze one in and it was more than worth the extra calories! Would recommend this place to anyone coming to the area and if we happen to come to this area again we'll definitely come to The Olive

We were looking for somewhere close to where we were staying and booked this last minute for dinner. Really pleased we did. The staff were so nice, efficient and friendly. There were so many things that we liked on the menu so, once we’d had some food and had seen how good it was, we booked for the following night and it was just as good second time around. We got stuck in traffic on the way there the second night and phoned to let them know and they were great and just pushed our table on an hour. Such great service, amazing food. Will be back if we’re even in Lincolnshire again

Having been reading for months now about the hidden treasures of the Lincs coast for post pandemic staycations,I stayed at the Olive in one of the motel rooms. My aim was to combine a coastal tour with mooching round markets and a day at the Market Rasen races.The room was beautifully presented, spotless and comfortable with air con. Parking literally outside the door was a bonus ( there are great Charity shops in Horncastle!!)After a wonderful day exploring the area: the North Sea Observatory,Anderby Creek,I dined in the Tapas restaurant 10 yards from my bedroom door. Fabulous array of small and large plates, I had the king prawns in garlic and the chicken breast burger. The quality of food is excellent as is the friendly service,something I really appreciate when travelling alone. Couldn't fault it. If a day's racing at Market Rasen is on your bucket list "Get in there!!".

A little late with my review as I don’t want to seem mean but sadly was very disappointed with our visit! My partner booked a table 14/06 to celebrate my 50th. After having been to The Olive numerous times it seemed like an obvious choice 😊.. Table was booked for 7.15pm, we arrived at 7pm, drinks were served promptly and order was taken at 7.15pm. At 7.45pm still no starter (mixed meat/breads/cheese etc). During our 30 min wait a table of 4 were seated and their starter served promptly (exactly the same as we had ordered). After several visits to our table from the server, him saying ‘you ordered the meat and cheese platter, I’ll see how the kitchen are doing with that’ he then came back at 8pm to say this dish was no longer available as they had run out of meat. What on earth?!?!… 5 mins later another server came to the table and asked if there was a problem? We explained ‘THE PROBLEM’ to be asked would we still like to stay for our main course?..Errrr NO! Completely disappointed we left. In their defence they offered for us not to pay for our drinks and asked if we’d like to make another booking. After leaving we walked 30 seconds down the road and The Gate of India came to our rescue with a yummy curry, all ordered, served and finished for 9pm! EDIT* I will add the staff were very friendly - but organised chaos!

We called in for a light lunch and we were greeted by a pleasant member of staff even though the kitchen was just opening, but he checked with the chef. We ordered garlic prawns and a drink, both of which were served up in very good order and were very enjoyable. The Olive has recently been refurbished and is a very welcoming and pleasant venue. We will certainly return and would highly recommend.

We wanted a night away and came across this place we stayed in a room which was outstanding lovely and cosy, staff lovely and polite, the restaurant was closed so we ate somewhere else but the staff we did see was lovely, would definitely recommend and stay here again was perfect for couples

We Don't normally leave reviews but we really had to comment on how well The Olive impressed us this past weekend. Absolutely outstanding dishes on offer and a great prices to follow. The staff were realy attentive and all guidlines were in place.We would highly recommend to anybody.

Well worth the visit cracking food

I’m not 1 for writing poor reviews without good reason. I booked The Oliver last minute for work, i booked around 3 hours before i arrived. On walking in i was looked at quite strangely when approaching the bar area, i said I’ve a room booked, with a scowl from the women behind the bar, i was asked have u just booked it? No i booked it about 3 hours ago, i got the impression that she really couldn’t be bothered, i was eventually tossed a key for room 3, then i asked could i get a table for dinner please, no were full, cant take walk ins off the street, I’m staying with you & you cant fit 1 person in for some food? No, there are plenty of places in town if you don’t like it you can go & stay else where what about the car park as its full are these likely to be people eating or staying? she walked off to back of the bar & ignored me, as pressuming its market day in town on satuerday the market square was closed off so no parking there which is about a 5 minute walk. outside the olive is double yellow lines so no parking there. have to say i was very shocked at the attitude of this women, all i wanted was some where to lay my head, park my car & get something to eat, id have been in the bar area for a very short time like order, them cook it me eat it & gone probably 30 mins max, my mouth had been watering at the tought of some Tapas for dinner on my 3 hour drive . The room was ok & clean but basic very much like a Travelodge. I had to turn the heating on once i got into the room, the bathroom was tiled from floor to celling so you can imagine it was like a fridge with a radiator that didn’t work i left door open all night to try warming it but made very little difference i was also woken by some loud tapping noise coming form the bathroom pipes which woke me at 5.30. it’s a shame as i stay around here for work often & this was right on the door step, so would have been perfect for future stays also.

Really good value overnight stay, in a small but cosy en-suite room.....all rooms named after a famous racehorse.The main staff were great; friendly and attentive, although there were some young girls who were polite and enthusiastic, but not really professional or au fait with the menu. They said they were new, so allowances made, but hopefully they will get up to speed quickly. Food was good, but not great - some dishes lacked a punch of flavour for our tastes, but overall an enjoyable evening.

A fabulous evening at The Olive, we (My husband and I) Ordered a selection of tapas which were very tasty and a bottle of wine, it was a very nice relaxed couple of hours on a Saturday evening. The decor is minimalist and uncluttered which I liked, the floors a mixture of surfaces as was the crockery which gave the restaurant/ bar a rustic feel. Menus were on large chalk boards and daily specials on a separate board. The food and wine were reasonably priced. The owners are quite new and the staff while pleasant and helpful did show their lack of experience on occasion but nothing that detracted from our enjoyment. Look forward to re visiting next time we pass through Market Rasen.

Incredible food and brilliant service will definitely go back

The best tapas!! The cocktail board was probably the first thing I noticed when walking in to this lovely family run restaurant (try the mojito - it's incredible), I could have drunk them all night. Luckily not though as I needed room for the amazing tapas, the spinach and chickpea dish has to be my favourite. The staff (that felt more like friends) were so friendly and attentive, it was a great atmosphere. We stayed overnight, with the accomodation just behind the restaurant, you can quite easily stumble to bed after a few too many mojitos with a very full and happy belly. Really cannot wait to go back, highly recommend.

***** An overall fantastic evening at The Olive. Myself and my partner ordered a selection of tapas dishes along with some cocktails which was delicious. The service was absolutely fantastic and we was made to feel very welcome. The restaurant is very spacious, well detailed and presented with a nice warm atmosphere. Amazing value for money!! Stayed here for 2 nights during the week whilst attending Cadwell Park for a track day. Rooms were immaculately clean and outstanding quality for the price we paid! Greeted upon arrival, the owners made us feel very welcome and they were very helpful with any requests we had, nothing was too much trouble. Stayed in the rooms at the rear of the restaurant, perfect for an overnight stay.Great value so ate in the adjoining restaurant. A little bit disorganised considering it was empty but very nice tapas and good value. Makes a lovely stopover for racegoers.

Last night we came to the olive for a couple of drinks which ended up with some tapas. Wow it was absolutely amazing. I’m not usual one for eating this type of food but wow just wow it tasted so amazing. From walking in we was made to feel so welcome and the staff couldn’t do enough. They went above and beyond. The restaurant and bar is lovely very relaxed atmosphere. We have definitely found our new place to eat. Thankyou to the staff for an amazing night.

Came here with friends and absolutley loved the cocktails. The food was freshly cooked and delicious. Particularly enjoyed the croquettes and the paella! Excellent service too, very friendly staff.

A group of six of us went on a Saturday night and were very impressed. The staff were warm and friendly and the service was quick but relaxed enough not to feel rushed.We picked some of the set menus and a few other tapas dishes and ended up with a lovely variety of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. There was plenty of food to feel full but not stuffed! Very nice wine too.We completely disagree with some of the other reviews and thought the quality of the food was excellent - without exception. The Olive is really good addition to Market Rasen and it would be great to see it thrive with the new owners. Teething problems are inevitable but from our experience, these are resolved and we would encourage other people to try this lovey place and judge for themselves.

Had previously dined hear several times, new management. Sadly not for the better.Alarm bells rang when we were able to book a table for Saturday Night at late notice. It is shocking food at every level. How do you get Mushrooms as a starter wrong easy, warm them up in a pan so they are still raw and serve up. The Chef had forgotten the Sherry Vinegar, Garlic and butter? The Beef Shin was just Gristle with huge visible veins tubes, cheap nasty meat, no dog food!The remaining dishes were lack lustre warm insipid bowls of food, you get the picture. Should you expect decent service in a Market Rasen Restaurant no of course not, it is a Market Town, average would be good. The waitress here brings bad service to a new level, just not bothered. Yes I did complain "The Chef is having a bad night" Really, they cannot cook..... !Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere it really is that bad.Supporting local restaurants is vital for choice but you have to draw a line under this one.Will never be visiting here again.

I was a little dubious having read some of the recent reviews but, I am so glad I didn’t listen to the negative ones! We had an amazing, exceptionally tasty meal. The staff were great, really attentive. It was nice to see the young girls being trained, everyone has to start somewhere. We will definitely be back!

We went for a meal tonight at the Olive as a group of 8 friends. What an amazing meal we had. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and we will definitely be back. The food was delicious and hot and the staff were really welcoming.

Woeful service. Complete lack of communication. Waited an hour for starters which were only warm and the mains which were literally stone cold. Simply rubbish.

We had many fantastic meals here when Tommy and Chris were in charge so it is with a heavy heart that I write this review. The food could only be described as bland and very ordinary; the menu has much less on it than previously and the whole thing was uninspiring. There’s still time for this to be salvaged if the new owners were to ask Tommy and Chris for some advice......otherwise, I fear for the future of The Olive.

Staff very friendly and welcoming, BUT after having looked forward to visiting the Olive, we were very disappointed. Gloomy decor, cold plates were given to us for use with hot food! A No! No! The food itself was tasteless and bland. Not a bit like the tapas in Spain. Very expensive for the amount of food and quality offered, especially compared with other British tapas restaurants in Britain which we have visited. We were all hungry again very soon. Reluctantly, we will not visit the Olive again. What a great opportunity lost for these owners.

The rooms that belong to the olive are an excellent place to stay at a very reasonable rate. Comfy, warm with tea and coffee making facilities. Iron and ironing board, free WiFi, and a hairdryer in the room. The bathrooms are lush and all is very clean and comfy. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners. Thank you great little stay

We booked to go here as the reviews overall were excellent,and our daughter is gluten free and the options on the menu were fantastic for her. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the food. It tasted bland with little flavour for example we ordered mushrooms with sherry and garlic, which cost £6 approx, the mushrooms were shrivelled floating in vinegar! The food was all luke warm in temperature, I saw that they were microwaving and reheating the lamb meatballs and sponge pudding, I wonder if most of it was microwaved as it didn't smell like they were cooking and we didn't notice cooking when walking by the kitchen.

I don't want to leave this review because the staff are obviously nice people, but the food was so under par I can only give The Olive 1/5. There was a distinct lack of flavour and finesse, which are both so important for tapas. The 'ham and cheese croquettes' were actually stuffing balls - there was no ham or cheese in them! I'm not sure if there was a mix up, or they thought we wouldn't know the difference...?! All in all quite disappointing, sadly.

Just had Sunday dinner here. Very tasty with plenty of nice rich gravy. Would strongly recommend.

Went on a Thursday night and shared the 4 tapas and bread board between us for £20, added olives and a bottle of rioja and it was all fantastic! The point of tapas is lots of smaller portions to share and this was enough for us, especially with having a drink with it as well (I dont like to be overly full if enjoying a drink with dinner)

I had a fantastic meal here tonight. Amazing food, great service and by far the best Tapas I've ever eaten.

Welcoming hosts with fab selection of guns at their bar. Great decor with nice open feel. Good menu, with variety of meat, fish and veggie dishes. Authentic patatas bravas, prawns in garlic, melt in the mouth beef stew, perfectly done calamari and peppers. The only reason not 5 stars is staff need training, clearly not served before. Had red wine delivered in cooler which hostess spotted and sorted straight away! Waitress asked if we wanted cutlery when she gave us our desserts. Made us chuckle. The desserts were delicious. Recommend the cheesecake and sherry sticky pudding. The paella looked good but needed more flavour though the mussels and fish were cooked perfectly. So nearly top marks, just a few rough edges for the new management to iron out and it’ll be a 5* all the way! Gem of a place!

Under new management and it shows waited 1 hour to be seated even though booked a table food took 1 3/4 hrs Portion size suitable for a baby not true tapas would never go there again

Stumbled across this great place completely by chance and I think we were their first customers for food. It's a shame that we're not local as I would definitely go back, the food was great, reasonably priced and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. It was their first night and I hope that they go on to have the success they absolutely deserve, a fantastic find.

Brilliant, just perfect, all anyone needs for a couple of days

We had the larger rooms above the olive for family of 5. Large kitchen, living room and bedrooms all off a long corridor. The downside was its on a very busy road with traffic passing all night and the windows are old single glazed sash ones with gaps in so found it hard to sleep.

Stayed in the accommodation as part of a cycle tour with a mate. We had a few drinks in some of the bars looking for somewhere to eat but ended up going back to the olive restaurant. Absolutely amazing tapas, lots of different tasty dishes, including plenty for my vegetarian mate. Highly recommended!

Ate here with friends, nice place, good atmosphere, very reasonably priced meal. They were a bit short staffed to deal with a fully booked restaurant and that did let the evening down a bit. I'd like to see some more adventurous vegetarian dishes.

Best find in market rasen. They were fully booked (got to be a good sign) but still managed to seat and serve us. We ate late and unfortunately a couple of dishes were sold out but as the place was packed I wasn't surprised.. although advertised as tapas the portions were somewhere between large and huge! For instance the chicken/chorizo from the specials board was easily a full size meal in itself £5.50 They also offer 5 tapas for £20 and I doubt two people could eat all five !! Great value for money. Very tasty food, pleasant helpful staff. They also offer rooms to the rear of the property (think of a terraced row of chalet/motel rooms vibe) which are small but perfectly adequate, again great value for money. Clean, include tea, coffee, ironing board, iron, hairdryer, TV, nice shower room... Can't fault the place, give it a go !!

Excellent food and lots of choice. We have been many times as a family with young children and also just me and my husband. On all occasions we thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service are fantastic and the staff are very helpful. Would highly recommend.

This place is a little gem in Market Rasen. Visited here with my husband the night before our American friends went home. Christine was exceptionally welcoming and described the menu and how it worked to our friends. The food was so tasty it was a shame that it came to an end! They thoroughly enjoyed their visit here.

Very nice place.busy venue.the apartment we booked was very nice 3 lovely rooms great kitchen lounge and bathroom.would not recommend for families with children who want an early night as very noisy as noise from below can be heard loudly. Improvements. Sauce could be added to kitchen ie red ,brown also clients that don't want to stay in the lounge to watch tv would rather relax in the room with their own tv.

What can we say Tommy and Chris and all the staff at the Olive made my 60th Birthday a fantastic time the food was and always will be superb, we love the way they take care of you.

Relocated from a tiny place on the main street to the old Red Lion pub gives more elbow room and the food is just as good. A warm welcome and decent Spanish wines at less than £20 a bottle starts the evening off well. A good list of familiar and not so familiar tapas with additional specials. On most recent visit a spicy black pork and a really nice cod dish were especially enjoyed. The cold meat & cheese platter as a starter is ample for two and even more could nibble round it as an "appero". The stuffed dates got a special mention from the ladies.
