Didn't eat here but it has a fabulous beer garden and the staff were very nice. Board games at the bar were brilliant to keep the kids amused

I've got a lot of love for the Oakey Smokey. I often pop in for a crafty pint after work with friends. I wouldn't necessarily say the food is anything to write home about. It's just your classic pub grub, but the atmosphere is always nice, the staff are friendly and there is always a healthy supply of drinks to try. Bouncy castle out the back for the kids, happy hour between 5-6 on weekdays, absolutely spot on.

Beautiful country pub, good beer garden, picturesque views. Great service, excellent food, and friendly locals. All are welcome with a smile and a little chat. Bouncing Castle for the kids and little play area.

We hired the small private room for a 90th Birthday party, Jaimie and all the staff were fantastic and really made this day so special, food was superb high quality, could not fault anything, highly recommend this lovely pub in a beautiful part of the village- Thank you everyone from start to finish.

Just tried the new menu and can’t wait to go back for more. Had the handmade oak chicken strips in panko breadcrumbs with bbq sauce and the bbq sticky sausages to start - both delicious. For mains we had had the cheeseburger with sirarcha sauce and a cheese ploughman’s, again lovely and great value. We will be back! 😊

Been again tonight and had two meals from the specials board, they were lovely and great portion sizes. Very friendly staff, always made to feel very welcome there with our little one. Always love the selection of gins. The Happy hour and £10 specials board definitely make it a win win.

We had the loveliest Mother’s Day dinner today. Food all came out piping hot, service was fab! Will definitely be returning! Love love love!

This pub does nice food but unfortunately I won't be visiting again as you can't be certain they are bothering to serve any! Turned up at 7:30pm last week with a friend to be told the chef had decided to pack up shop for the evening based on the current number of customers. How they expect to cater for passing trade or attract new custom with this approach I'm not sure. Call me old fashioned but if you advertise that a service will be available between certain times per day then it should be. The day after a bank holiday also seems to cause them problems, and they usually don't serve food then either because they haven't been able to get any food in - how do other establishments manage I ask myself?!

Good old english pub... Lovely in the summer in the beer garden. Bouncy castle for the kids to keep the little ones from bugging while you have a relaxing beer or 6

Only one real ale (Abbot) and that was only average. The pub could be so much better. The back room is decorated like some kind of crèche (bright blue) and is very echoey / noisy. It needs some soft furnishings to make it so much more welcoming and comfortable.

I ordered a pint of bitter from the friendly barmaid and it was very good. However, as I saw the tatty menu offering basic food, described with typos, I feared for my stomach. I ate a burger and chips and this filled a hole. The chips were sad, whilst to be fair the burger neatly included a piece of bacon for pep.

They didn't have what I originally wanted so ordered the lasagne which wasn't brilliant, lacking in flavour but everything else we ordered was of good quality and tasted good.

the garden is lovely and there is play equipment and a bouncy castle for the kids, the chef went out of his way to make a homemade bbq sauce for our son, you can't ask for more than that. thank you

Lovely local pub. Landlady and team very friendly and helpful nothing to much trouble. Food very good and helpings too. Family over from Australia loved it and the garden is lovely to eat in with your dog too. Very relaxed place for any age group.

Really nice attention from the bar staff and excellent hearty food but why o why can’t the toilets be cleaned? We spent the afternoon here eating, drinking and enjoying the place but as always those dreaded gent loos had to be frequented. The place looks as if it’s not ever been cleaned. No care or attention. Such a shame. Home that the manager can direct some cleaning resources to attend. I’m sure the sign on the back of the door must be a joke right…?

This was a family night out for a special occasion was one of the best evenings food was amazing would highly recommend once you visit you will return and return! Thank you everyone at the Royal Oak.

Lovely pub! Dog friendly and tasty meal, very friendly

First impressions good, The portions were plentiful, but the jacket potato looked like yesterdays leftover. Meal was Luke warm and pie pastry was hard in parts which was a pity. On trying to pay the bill, we were left hanging around while the person behind the bar served some customers then said we’d have to wait while she dealt with something else. Was disappointed as last time we had a really good meal which was why we returned. Won’t be returning now

Went with my daughter's hockey team for a post match drink and chips. The chips were tasty. There was a big room we went into so as not to disturb the other people in the pub. Would recommend.

Great food, lovely atmosphere, very welcoming pub.

Had the chicken strips and nachos, the chicken strips were a little chewy and the nachos were just some Doritos with cheese melted on them, they were just a mass of melted cheese, not the most tasty thing i've had.

Owner and pub are very friendly however bar staff can be a little grumpy

I booked a table over the phone to be by the open fire. My girlfriend got there first, the fire was blazing. We had a couple of drinks and a bite to eat. The food was great but what stood out was the excellent, friendly service! Will happily return again.

First time at the pub today. Lovely warm real fire in bar, food was great ( my steak was spot on and very tender) . My son had the pie and wife had a nice burger. Overall v good , would come again👍

Good food, reasonable price, as ever too many chips - obviously my preference. But pleasant surroundings with comfortable dining chairs.

We visited on Saturday, the garden looks tired and in need of some tlc. A lot of the benches are broken and all seats/tables could have done with a wipe over.. we ordered a bottle of Prosecco, it hadn’t been in the fridge which was disappointing, especially at £23 per bottle. Visited the toilet, no toilet roll.. We continued to order food… this turned out to be the one saving grace.. it was lovely. Come on Royal Oak team you could have a little gold mine here but the basics need to be right.

Can in with my wife on the hottest June day (17th June) to be served two very flat half’s of Birra Morreti...I could tell myself they were flat before I’d tasted them and I’d got not glasses on!!! Truly awful and tasted horrendous...Not been here for over 2 1/2 years and definitely now will not return...We went to The Greyhound afterwards class, great beer and great outdoor seating area. Feedack: Don’t get lazy and serve your customers flat beer and expect them to pay full price. Not good. If you are thinking of coming here for a beer don’t bother!!

We don’t eat here very often but decided to try it after about 3 years since Covid. I have to say that the food was excellent. I understand they have a new chef who has only been there for about 6 weeks but if I were the manager/owner I would hang onto them. I had the beef chilli which frankly was outstanding. Apparently it is slow cooked in orange juice and spices. No minced beef here. The beef just fell apart.The taste was amazing and there was loads of it. My wife had the enchiladas which she thought was excellent too. Very reasonably priced with good service. I thoroughly recommend it and I must say that I am fairly fussy about taste and general standards. Loved the chargrilled lime wedge….nice touch!! Full marks to the new chef who obviously knows what they are doing. Please maintain these high standards. Really enjoyed it. In fact it was one of the best chillis that I have had for as long as I can remember. Thank you so much👏👍

Good pub with at least 2 good real ales. The landlady and her husband from Sunderland are great and don't tolerate any idiots. We were visiting for a 60th but would be happy if this was our 'local'.

Not had food only drinks... typical pub, good sized garden. Service sometimes a little slow and a little pricey for the area, but not the worst boozer you could go to.

Ordered a panini, waited an hour. Staff said that they could not find me as I sat and waited in their garden waiting, so they left the food at the bar. Really poor.

Visited for the first time today. Arrived for lunch and had the fish, chips and mushy peas which was excellent. Overall the pub is spacious, has a large beer garden, a very large car park and the staff are lovely. Definitely recommend a visit.

The pub prices are expensive!! On one week they went up 50p on our usual drinks. Food I think is expensive for what it is and is pretty mediocre. Won't be visiting very often given price hikes!!

Nice food in a relaxed atmosphere.

Went for a carvery today. First time eating here. Initially walked in and nobody around. Had to go to the kitchen to find a staff member to serve us. We never got given any menus or told how things worked with ordering and the carvery etc. Seated in a bare room which had a funny smell, tables very sparse and no atmosphere. Carvery extortionate prices at £16 per person with only 2 choice of meats beef or pork. Carvery area is very small. Would of liked the option of chicken or Turkey. Food was lukewarm. Won’t be returning.

We walked to the Oak yesterday afternoon after deciding to go for a drink and maybe a light bite. We ended up having a meal recommended by the very friendly and helpful chef, who obviously likes to interact with customers which is refreshing. The food was delicious, lamb chops for my husband and a lovely cod dish for myself couldn’t fault either meal. The barman was very friendly and efficient too. Happy we decided to take a walk.

Great friendly village pub with fantastic atmosphere!

Incredible!!! Popped in as we were passing on home and didn’t know what food was like and wasn’t expecting too much. Warm and pleasant welcome from Johnny (chef) and all staff. And food was absolutely incredible!!! We were roped in (kindly) by Johnny to the steak with the most yummiest Stilton and Peppercorn sauce, it was amazing!! 1000% be back again and will bring friends and family. Lovely warm and cosy pub! Definitely worth the visit.

Called in whilst passing the village of Bitterswell What a lovely country pub this is. They have a good selection of drinks. Very welcoming staff and a new chef We both opted for the chef’s special gammon. The food was well presented and delicious!! We can highly recommend this pub for its food, drinks, the friendly staff and the ambiance of the pub.

On the very first Sunday of December, visited for the lunch time menu. Had a search on Google maps for Sunday lunch in this area. Great looking pub on the outside, real fires inside,. Clean tidy, great service and xmas menu. Food was fresh, crunchy although others would have like the veg cooked a little longer. Really good Turkey and cheese cake for afters.

The staff were really kind and helpful, the young lads behind the bar ollie and Liam were excellent, will definitely visit again.

Food is good, however service is very poor. They immediately asked us what drinks we wanted as we sat down, so we ordered drinks and when they came asked for a food menu. 30 minutes later we went in and asked for a menu. Another 25 minutes passed before someone came to take a food and drink order. Soon after this, around 5 minutes apart two different staff members asked if we wanted more drinks before we’d even received the ones we ordered!

Service can be a bit slow at peak times but more often than not you get good food and prompt table service. A nice quiet spot for a pint and a snack. Reasonable garden and indoor space.

Attended this afternoon. Ordered fish and chips, 2 x Burger and chips, steak and chips and a pizza. Waited an hour after ordering for food to come. Condiments tray was empty. No customer service follow up. Food although acceptable very below average. £90 in total....

Came here three times hoping it will get better. The first weekend after lockdown eases and hardly any staff on. Shocking table service, hour waits for drink. We got there on a saturday and they were not taking orders due to backlog and minimum staff. The prices are extortionate and not worth it. Hardly ever get the order right and no straws. No outside heating or lights, kept getting moved due to staff not being able to see outside. Management need to rethink how to run this place, used to be such a good pub.
