The Mill on the Soar in Harborough

Dropped off our easter egg donations for a charity they advertised online. Can't wait until you open, my nan is missing your fish suppers when we visit.

Absolutely superb place to eat staff are just like meeting family for a social gathering such a shame about the floods missing the place looking forward to an amazing new pub 😀😀

I went with my wife and two boys for lunch inbetween Xmas and NYE so it was quite busy but we were greeted by a lady (Emma I think she was the manager) who was really friendly and helped us to get a table, great first impression! We then went and ordered our food and drinks at the bar, unfortunately not sure of the chaps name but he served us with a smile which was nice as not the case a lot of times in busy pubs staff can seem stressed and that just stresses you as a customer! This did the opposite and made me smile :-). Food came out really quickly and was all nice. Overall really nice venue (great play area and views outside which will come back again to use when warmer!), lovely staff and great value! Would certainly recommend 👌 👍

Was there last week and place was flooded unfortunately staf were great in the light of being in a very sensitive and harrowing event x

Cold pub, food not hot, staff not very friendly or knowledgeable about the menu. There was no macaroni cheese or chilli which we asked for for my child who only eats a select few meals. The food arrived quickly but wasn’t warm and the part of the pub we sat in was freezing and we had to keep our coats on for the whole duration of the meal. The menus were sticky too! Won’t be returning after this visit.

Came to the mill on the soar for a meal with the family as we didn’t get to see them on christmas. Haven’t been to this pub in a few years and it exceeded all of our expectations! staff were lovely and cheerful, food was delicious and speedy service. Couldn’t ask for anything else to have bettered our experience! Will definitely come again.

Took the kids for breakfast with Santa, was met at the door by a lovely lady named Emma introduced herself with a smile and showed us to a table. The menus were on the table ready and so were activities for the kids which I thought was a lovely detail, they even had Christmas crackers for each child set up for our arrival. A lovely young lady named Abby came over and took our order and sparked up conversation with myself and the children, really encouraging the Christmas spirit within the Mill On Soar. It didn't take long for the meal to arrive, it was brought out to us by a chap named Bill who wished us all a Merry Christmas as he placed the plates down. Compliments go to the chef as the breakfasts were enjoyed by the whole family.

First time in decades that I've been out for Christmas lunch. I was concerned that it would be crowded - we would be rushed to eat. Far from it, diners well spaced out. Food hot, we'll presented & tasty. Service was good, friendly staff, who took time to take a photo for us. Wonderful experience

Breakfast with Santa. Awful attempt. No atmosphere, direction as to what to do, food took forever to come. Santa was around the corner for 20mins, if you didn't know you would have missed him, really bad santa and given the cosy to enter only getting a selection box. Food was good, so I'd go back for that but the experience and what we expected was not good!

The staff were so good the onion rings were AMAZING but the chicken wings...bbq chicken wings- what would you expect? Chicken wings in bbq sauce??? Yep...me too. But I got deep fried slightly coated wings with bbq dip on the side. PROPER disappointment! Sauce and wings were really tasty, but still not bbq wings. But the lady behind the bar and the lady who offered us board games were great, as were the two lads who brought the food and got us extra bbq sauce. Overall, thanks, but sort out the wings and you'll get 5 diamonds not 4 stars!!!!

Had a lovely meal here with the family. Plenty of choice. Staff were very friendly and polite and the service was brilliant. The food was cooked well and tasted great. Will definitely be back

Lovely family dinner on a Wednesday night. Ordered the chickpea curry and it was delicious, whilst the kids menu had lots of great options too. Looking forward to coming again!

The worst week ever. I was here on a training week with my company. The rooms are nice and warm, clean and comfortable. But that’s not the problem. The problem is that every time someone uses a water supplied service then you know about it because it’s all a pumped supply. If your neighbour uses the shower, toilet,basin etc at 2,3,4 ,5, 6 in the morning then you get woken up because of the noise of the pumps that resonate throughout the whole room. The staff in the adjacent pub will come and serve you after they’ve completed chatting or texting with their local mates and staff so be prepared to wait a while until you get served. I will not be staying here again and would actually pay personally for overnight accommodation whilst in the area for training purposes with my company rather than stay there at their expense.

After a busy weekend in Birmingham it was nice to stop off for a late breakfast. All food was cooked perfect and staff very polite and helpful

Incredibly impressed with our experience over the weekend! All of our food was delicious and came out in no time, even my fussy little eaters were happy. The staff were so lovely and helpful with my dietary requirements, and were wonderful when working around my children even when they were being difficult. We enjoyed it so much we came back for breakfast the next day, which was just as good! Would definitely recommend anybody looking for a place to have a lovely family dinner to try this place

I’m so disappointed with how much this pub has deteriorated over the years. My parents used to bring me here when I was little and it was always a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, it is now very dirty looking. The first thing that should’ve probably been a red flag is there was no soap in the toilets even though a check had been signed off on the check sheet for that particular hour! My husband said that the men’s were the same. Secondly our 2 very different drinks were flat which were changed for us. One of the drinks came back wrong but I was just happy that it had a little more fizz than the flat one that was given previously. Thirdly, our food was merely tepid. I wouldn’t recommend this pub and will most definitely not be returning.

Had food from here, chips weren't cooked properly. Even the second lot that came out was the same had to leave them as the cook can't cook chips.. all other foods they could but NOT chips 🍟 Disgusting 🫣 🤮 that they could all them self's a chef.

Stayed overnight due to local family commitments. Staff very welcoming and informative on check in. Room very clean, good sized double. Went to the bar in the evening, Abi? did a great job and was warm and welcoming as was her colleague. Only issue I had was internet access. Couldn't access the bar wifi from my room and seems to be an o2 blackspot for coverage. Will probably be staying again in the next month or so with no qualms whatsoever

Personally, I love this place. The staff are so nice and the food tastes great. Everything looks amazing and comfortable on the inside while on the outside it is massive and has a play area to entertain kids. Honestly, I would recommend this place to everyone!

Popped in for a quick breakfast, though enjoyable don't feel that we got the best from our visit as we were not feeling 100% and struggled to eat it, we did have a little wait but nothing serious, on this occasion we didn't really enjoy the experience but as mentioned not at our best but have visited for breakfast a number of times and it was excellent, the fact we have visited numerous times would be a better gauge of the quality and service than this visit when we were a tad under the weather

Very poor food quality, amount, not as advertised, I'm not one for complaining, but this is the second time. Sharing candymania, smaller than a standard dessert, much smaller. The picture is as it was served.

Whilst staying at the Mill for a business trip, the rooms where cleaned everyday, the food was amazing and great value for money, and the service was excellent all the staff were really friendly and happy to help. Great stay would recommend to anyone staying in the area.

Stayed here for 3 nights due to a travel with work, Room was cleaned daily, fresh towels. Ate breakfast and dinner here - Breakfast served with a selection of pastries, cereals all to help yourself with the chance to order any hot food too (which i did and all came out cooked perfectly) .. Quick service. Staff friendly and couldn’t do enough for me, will definitely be returning. Good price room and food. Can’t fault it. Thank you

Booked mill on the soar, wasn’t busy but yet again, I got to the till & they hadn’t got what I wanted, ordered another burger that is worded so wrong & it was vegan , their was 6 of us & they bought 5 meals out & told us they had no vegan buns, to order something else would have meant we would have finished our meals & my husband would have ate alone. So I shared mine after asking 3 times for a spare plate, by which time mine was cold, I asked for a refund, the staff were rude & not good at hospitality at all, she eventually gave me a gift card after much debating, it was a terrible experience, it needs all the staff to be trained properly

Was in the area and wanted to revisit this amazing pub which around the early 80’s my Uncle, Steve Brittain purchased this disused mill. He went on to buy a disused school and used the bricks to build the Mill on the Soar. He employed 4 men to build the mill wheel, it took them over a month to build. The wheel worked well with the River Soar and was an amazing feature of the new pub. Such a shame it no longer runs. He also had many farm animals which were popular with families. The pub over 40 years as changed and changed hands several times. We found the staff very pleasant and the food we had, was delicious. If we lived in the area, we would use as a local. It brought back many memories. Uncle was also the landlord of the Chequers in Ullesthorpe and the Narborough Arms. They were all free houses.

Long wait for food as apparently a big party ordered before us! Food eventually arrived two at a time with long delays in between. One meal was "overlooked" so another delay. We wanted to eat all at the same time - no chance. We ordered...

Went for breakfast and had the waffles. Great add on with a cold and a hot drink for £2.50. Would recommend even on a Saturday morning.

A very nice location and pub to have a meal.

We stayed here for two nights in Sept. 2022. The accommodation is clean and comfortable in blocks of chalets separate and away from the main building. The room was spacious with en suite, TV and tea making etc. Meals including a good breakfast are available in the main lounge at very reasonable prices There is ample parking and a garden with outdoor seating. It is fair to say there was some plumbing noise at night but overall a very nice stay at reasonable rates. Stayed here again Sept 2013. Happy to say it was a much quieter night.

Lovely meal and a very good price

Had 4 very enjoyable meals here whilst attending the Victory Show and would like to thank the staff for allowing us to borrow 2 plates for our camping after we forgot to bring ours. Great customer service

We stayed frid and sat for the veteran weekend. Its the best hotel we have stayed at for a long time. Rooms spotless very comfortable. High standards. Great to have iron and board. Also hairdryer. The restaurant in the main pub was spotless. Received a very warm welcome. Nothing too much trouble. Not one unsmiley face . All staff were very smiley and happy interacting with the customers. The food was amazing Fresh and red hot. Prices were 100% reasonably priced very much all food and drink was value for the money. The outside area was very spacious and comfortable too. With lovely surroundings. We will definitely be back for another stay. We will very much recommend it to everyone and anyone . Thank you to the management and staff for making our stay a lovely and relaxed one.

Perfectly situated for diving at Stoney Cove. Very friendly staff who are happy to help with any problems. We forgot our toothpaste and the hotel didn’t have any in stock. The manager however who lived there had a spare tube and gave it to us....

Great little spot on the way to the farm park. Kids lived the waffle and I enjoyed my coffee. Shame about the wasps nests, but these things can't be helped.

Overall visit to this restaurant/pub was very disappointing. Complete lack of customer service skills, not willing to help and extremely rude manager. Other bar staff and waitress staff were great. Ruined what supposed to be a nice family lunch and will not be returning. Never had this at other Hungry Horses.

Over priced. Tired looking room in need of decorating. Noisy pumping and water pumps. Breakfast not include Pub/restaurant: not clean - sticky tables, flies around coffee machine; lots of staff doing very little. Only time I saw them smile was when off duty and playing pool; food was below average even for a pub.

Terrible, came here for my wife’s birthday, literally had nothing on the menu but ordered a adults burger but when it turned up it was plainly a kids meal as it wasn’t what we have had before, won’t be going again, while at the bar...

Great place to eat with family and friends. Enough on the menu for anyone to find something they like. Prices are value for money, drinks choice is good, however, on my last visit a Sunday afternoon at 2pm they had no bitter available so that let them down slightly, but we went for the food not the drink. Overall very good. Service was quick, food hot and plenty of it. There's always a deal on and each day is different. Well worth a visit for food.

I am disappointed with mill on soar they made us wait an hr to order food as they double booked us and then my food come out with hair on it i will not be going back there

You get what you pay for. It's cheap but the food appears to be prepared/plated and then given a blast in the microwave.

A lovely place to stay, with very helpful and friendly staff. When you look at the menu, you think typical pub grub, this may be some what true. Unlike other places we have stayed, the food here was exceptional, well prepared, cooked with customers in mind. I would highly recommend a visit here, great value for money, but not compromised, for the price. Thanks to all 👍

Good beer in a great location and the beer garden area is perfect for those long summer evenings. Maybe the carpets and furniture indoors are due an update, though. I recommend this venue

Come here once or twice a year for a family meet up meal. Always a positive visit - food and service good, playground for the younger kid's to mess around in and plenty of room inside.

Had a beautiful Sunday Roast here last week so came back for another.this week however was disappointing with very little chicken and over cooked beef.

Been to vist this this evening and was disappointed. Food arrived cold and mine had hairs in it, staff hovering about taking plates away before you had finished also put me off. Place was not very clean and neither were the menus, tables dirty and chairs covered in food stains. Toilets OK but no sign of hand soap in the ladies . This place has gone downhill in the 6 years i have been visiting.

Dreadful meal.I’m coeliac Ordered hunters chicken asked for no barbecue sauce. Came with barbecue sauce, replaced it. I wanted chips and peas. Chips are gluten free.!!! Only if you put something on them. Jacket potato butter had all melted so nothing to put on potato....

Great place, had a meet up with friends so can't review the rooms, food and drink was excellent, service was friendly and professional.Large outdoor area with play area for families with kids . Location is great for local villagers but little out the way for others unless driving.All in all great place to enjoy good food and drink and keep all the family happy.
