It has been many months since i visited this pub with my wife and relatives and it has taken sometime to get over what could be the worst dining experience in my life. We chose the al la carte menu, minimum of four people, to get to the point the food was horrible, absolutely disgusting and a pathetic amateur attempt at providing a prestige service. I did take this up with the manager, after a very heated discussion when he failed to accept the blame, he went on the defensive and eventually tried to manipulate the situation to his advantage by accusing me of making threats against him. The Olde Coach House has never been a great pub and even after a refurb it still looks and feels dank, I felt sorry for my mother in law and her sister who paid the £180 bill, they were robbed, we all were.

For the price we paid for the room and food in the pub I can only say it was fantastic value for money . All staff members were polite and focused on making the stay welcoming and comforting . Bravo to all involved in running this quaint village pub . We'll worth a visit and would not hesitate to stay again if we came down this way in the future.

This place is in a beautiful setting, the surround area and village are stunning. The accommodation, bar, and rooms are first rate. The staff are very polite and always at hand to take feedback. If this place made some small changes it could be amazing! However, when my colleague and myself stayed there for 2 nights small silly things they should have had in place often annoyed you or spoilt your stay. Such as: no towels; windows handles that were broken meant the window didn’t close properly; TV remote controls not working, and food that arrived 40 minutes to arrive. These are small things that could be resolved by employing a maintenance man, and a competent kitchen manager. There is clearly a disconnect somewhere 🤷🏼♂️ It seems clear however, the enthusiastic well mannered staff do not have the support required. They should not be running out of towels! I had zero. If you are the owner running this place, I strongly suggest you support your staff with all they need to take bad reviews to excellent ones. You could turn this hotel around in days and those reviews would mean more quality reviews for food and accommodation. You are selling yourself short and this will demoralise staff and create a bad reputation that will stick. When things are in place at this pub it’s a brilliant place to stay and eat. The food was lovely when it eventually arrived. Come on… pull your socks up and invest.

Miserable and dark bar area, not welcoming at all. Menu not very exciting either. Could do with a complete overhaul. Called in for a quick drink, won't be returning any time soon.

From the exterior, the Olde Coach House seems impressive, but on entry into the bar and particularly the stairs to our room above, the air was faisty and our twin room had an unpleasant smell too. Apart from a nice view, one mattress had protruding springs, a wall plug had its cover hanging off, the shower room extractor hardly worked and was extremely noisy, and the washbasin light didn't work, and no bedside tables After an uncomfortable night with much door slamming we attempted to go down stairs for breakfast, the door would not unlock, we had to hail a passing member of the public to go to our aid to summon a staff member. On the final morning , they had no eggs for breakfast. No compensation or room transfers were offered.

It was sometime ago when I took my Mother In Law and her sister for a meal at this pub. They are both in their late seventies, they chose the Ala Carte menu. We all had to have this menu, minimum of 4 people? The food was terrible, absolutely horrible, oh, by the way I have as a touring musician eaten in some of the best restaurants around the world, this was by far the worst I have ever had, it was vile, no words could describe the disappointment or the experience. The manager should remember me, we had a long argument over the phone, he threatened to call the police when I told him I would beat him up on Trip Advisor! by the way I enjoyed listening to the abusive phone message you left me, you could of offered some sort of compensation but instead you abused me. NOBODY gets away with these low standards.

Friday evening visit for food. No atmosphere, cold, dark and fairly empty. 3 staff standing at the bar having a chat. Had to interrupt to ask for a table and we were told to sit anywhere. Had to ask for someone to take our drink order. Then had to ask again for menus and again ask for our order to be taken. Took our order then came back to advise there was a wait, but couldn’t say how long. Asked for a more precise wait time, and after a wait (!) was told this would be at least 25 minutes. All a bit weird given the place was empty! We left at that point, having wasted an hour. This pub has been very inconsistent for many years, right now it’s clearly bottom of the curve.

My partner and I tried to eat here on a Friday lunch. That should not have been overly ambitious, right? There were some cars in the parking lot, which looked disheveled. We walked into the bar area-no lights on and nobody in attendance. Was it maybe closed after all? A few minutes later the manager walked in. She flipped on some of the lights and said we could eat anywhere. No attempt was made to show us “anywhere” and much of the restaurant was still dark. We went outside. One other table was occupied. After some time, we got service for drinks and food, The drinks came after a wait. Then we waited and waited. And hour for hamburgers? The manager, after my husband went in, said our orders were next out. I didn’t realize that the kitchen wasn’t capable of more than one order at a time. Ten minutes later, after more than an hour of waiting and an appointment we were in dander of missing, we left. A shame, as it is a pretty village.

My friend and I booked for lunch at the Olde Coach House, because it was convenient for our visit to the wonderful historic church in Ashby St Ledgers, a pretty village with strong Gunpowder Plot connections. We were made very welcome with a choice of restaurant seating that’s spread over a series of rooms, one with a working fireplace. There’s a garden too, and dogs are welcomed both inside and out. For me that’s a big plus, as a potential venue for wider family gatherings. There's ample parking and it’s located just a few minutes drive from the A361 Daventry road. There’s also the option of accommodation, so it ticks a lot of boxes. In my opinion the food alone makes it well worth a visit. It’s a small menu that changes regularly (website gives examples) and in my opinion that’s usually a sign of freshly cooked seasonal food. We had a sweet potato and chick pea curry, steamed rice and onion bhaji, which was delicious and very reasonably priced. Drinks choice was very good, with a decent selection of beers and non alcoholic choices as well (eg Days Lager 0%, Fentimans Rose Lemonade). I understand this Charles Wells brewery pub changed management recently, and currently the website looks like it’s under reconstruction. On this basis alone it would be easy to overlook what this pub offers so I hope this is prioritised soon. I’ve no hesitation in recommending it and look forward to returning.

Have visited a couple of times a month for a while now over lunch as is in a great location to meet for a working lunch. We visited again 2 weeks ago for a quick working lunch, complete waste of time! The place was a mess and the car park was disgusting! It was completely derelict and closed! Looked abandoned! No signs up or anything so my colleague suggested to try again the following day so he booked a table online, he loved there steak sandwich! And again, abandoned! Closed with no warning or sign to explain what’s going on even though a table was booked! I’m guessing it’s changed hands or something, the mess and bin bags everywhere suggested that, never answering the phone and online bookings are pointless as they allow you to make bookings but are closed. Wont be bothering again, found a great spot in the next village along for lunch so will be going there for lunch meetings instead now!

I don’t usually write or post negative reviews, but… we had terrible service, staff not performing as a team, table booked for 7:30, waited for 40 minutes for drinks to arrive and ordering food. Main course arrived at 9:15. Food was really disappointing - two meals very over salted, which was raised with staff, who just said “oh”, and walked away. Two other nearby tables also complained about poor food. Ambience was non-existence. If I could give a zero rating I would. Will not be returning - AVOID.

We arrived at the Olde Coach House from Portsmouth to spend a few days with friends travelling from Sunderland - a convenient half-way point. Having stayed there some years ago we were all looking forward to our holiday experience, but oh, the disappointment! The catalogue of things that went wrong is endless. There was no warm welcome for us, not only because the few staff around seemed preoccupied and disinterested, but also because there were problems with the heating. We gathered the engineers were working on it but, in the meantime, fires had been lit in the bar and the restaurant. Unfortunately, not enough logs had been purchased and we had not been there long before the staff were resorting to trying to keep the fires burning with torn-up cardboard - a useless exercise. We shivered through dinner on the first night with mediocre service and food that was almost cold. Our rooms, fortunately, were clean, warm and very comfortable, although we had a broken shower door which was not attended to whilst we were there. We were unable to bear the cold in the restaurant for our first breakfast, so we were given a table in the bar near a fire, which again went out very soon through lack of wood. The waitress was visibly annoyed at having to carry our breakfast a greater distance, we received one small tea pot for three people, two of our breakfasts were not as we had ordered and we had a long wait following any request. We asked to see someone in charge, to be told the manager would be there at 12, which was inconvenient as we were hoping to spend a day exploring the area. We went out for coffee and returned at 12, to be told the manager had gone out again and wouldn't be around for another hour. At this point we took matters into our own hands and booked into a Holiday Inn down the road, where we were welcomed like royalty and had a wonderful stay.

Stayed here as an alternative to a chain hotel and it was a mistake with this hotel. On the first night the tv didn’t work properly , the shower didn’t drain and mobile coverage was very poor. Spoke to reception the next morning to get the tv and drainage fixed, but the receptionist was totally indifferent and did not pass the message on. The Duty Manager was much more attentive and tried to make an effort to resolve the problems when she knew about them. When you get a good independent hotel then it’s a joy, this one wasn’t. Food was good in the bar hence 2 stars rather than 0. Rooms are small even for a “luxury Room” and the carpet was frayed. Won’t be staying there again for which I’m sure the staff will be grateful. Take the risk if you want to.

We arrived and there was no one to serve us at the bar but eventually we did have attention. We were not greeted in a friendly way and to be quite honest this had a negative effect at the beginning. We all had a few issues with the standard of the food and drinks . There were however a couple of waitresses who were very efficient but generally from some their attitude was much to be desired. We shall not be drinking or dining at this place again. Overall we did have a nice time with our family but would have preferred a balanced running of the pub in general.

Here is a place that’s hard to review. On the one hand a lot of basics went wrong, a few things were shambolic and our meal was poor. On the other our room was nice and it was clear that one or two senior people had just abandoned them. A plus though we’re the staff who were uniformly cheerful and did their best to help. But THE saving grace was the person we took to be the acting manager who more than went out of her way. First person I’ve encountered for a while that I would offer a job to on the spot. Singlehandedly made a very poor stay an acceptable one. Whoever owns the place she deserves a pay rise and senior involvement. We believe her name is Molly. Avoid the place for now but only until it gets back on its feet. Likeable but not yet charming.

We had an excellent dinner at The Olde Coach House restaurant. Imaginative food with interesting twists and beautifully presented. By far the best meal we have had in the area. Chicken parfait starter and mains of pork belly and sea bass were delicious. The only let-down is the wine list. This standard of cooking deserves at least a couple of bottles of white and red which are not just the usual pub offerings. Many restaurants use a corovin which means that better wines could be offered by the glass as well as the bottle.

Warm welcome. Covid rules in place and followed. Told we had a ‘great‘ table and it was ok, nothing special. Asked if we could have a candle because lights were bright. Candle was given, but went out after a minute due to no oil in the bottom. No staff noticed this. One of our guests found another and we sorted it ourselves. Glassware really lacked class and was chunky and cheap. It wasn’t pleasant to drink good quality wines from. We wanted to order 4 beef wellingtons and a fish dish. All these being the most expensive. When we ordered we were told the wellington was off the menu. Finished main at 9.15 and we were informed no desserts because the kitchen was shut. We queried this and waitress said the kitchen had ‘agreed‘ to make us dessert. Staff need menu training, although our waitress was friendly. The experience was underwhelming and we were disappointed. The food was good and hot. It’s mid range in price and there are places around that offer a better more refined experience. I think they need to decide what their identity is. Provide guests with high quality ‘pub’ food and better attention to detail front of house. Ie menus, glassware, lighting etc We appreciate with lockdown looming it must be a struggle and stress for all staff and maybe tensions were high with such uncertainty. However, we won’t be in a rush to return and we have had a better experience there in the past.

This is my local and maybe I am biased, but the roast we had, with two of our friends, were perfect. I had the lamb shank, cooked to perfection, my wife and friends had the roast Turkey, thickly cut and super tender, not the usual transparency thinness you can get elsewhere. Vegetables were cooked as they should be and not boiled within an inch of their life. Roast potatoes, parsnips, Yorkshire pudding, pig in blanket and stuffing complemented the rest of the meal. Everyone was friendly and the newly decorated restaurant area was clean and safe.

I booked for my husband's birthday celebration but unfortunately we were left disappointed. Upon being seated we were advised that there was only a limited menu in fact they were only offering Sunday Lunch or pizza.. very disappointed as we had studied the menu before, being so much choice was one of the reasons for booking.Starters were being served but again 3 of those were unavailable. We did manage to find some starters but at £7 / £8 each they are just far too expensive for what was served.Unfortunately it was very cold inside the pub / restaurant and not a warm, welcoming atmosphere.I ordered the chicken and it was only a passing comment from the waitress that we discovered the roast chicken was actually stuffed with garlic and wrapped in bacon..not quite a dish that goes with Yorkshire pudding or maybe that's just me..good job we found this out as I am allergic to garlic and so quickly changed to turkeyThe roast was actually delicious and the Turkey was so moist and tasty and so have no complaints about the roast dinner.Upon ordering coffee, we were then advised that the coffee machine was not working either which just seemed yet another disappointment.I did comment by saying that I was really disappointed with such a limited menu and said that as we had booked they should have contacted us to be told, the response was that they were probably going to he limiting the menu going forward, not really an explanation or reason, If there had been a valid reason and explanation, these things happen and I would have maybe been a little more understanding. They did remove the cost of a childs roast for which we appreciate however unfortunately the Birthday lunch wasn't what we were expecting and it is such a shame I am afraid we will not be going back.

Nice food let down by inexperienced staff. We waited ages to order and I had to go and find a staff member in the end as we were hungry! The staff were doing laps of the restaurant with plated food trying to find out which table the order belonged to. We could hear the chef from the kitchen shouting at the waitress. Maybe poor service would be more understandable if the restaurant was busy but it wasn’t. We won’t be returning.

We had a lovely evening here today! The food was fresh and delicious and really enjoyable (highly recommend and also a fantastic and varied offering for veggies/vegans which is rare!) Staff were absolutely lovely and very helpful - Indie was extremely helpful and really looked after us throughout the evening! With everything the industry and the rest of the world is going through, the pub went above and beyond to make sure the experience was safe, enjoyable and they did not compromise on the food or service at all! We will be back again soon! Thank you!

We have just finished having lunch, food was average but the service was pretty awful. Some very inexperienced staff, although some were pleasant enough, certain members were very rude and serving us seemed to be an inconvenience. They were very unorganised, when we arrived only having two menus printed off. You’d think with us booking in advance they may have been prepared. Also were briefing staff in front of us, again you’d think that would be done in private at the start of the day. Just a disappointing experience to be honest. Everything seemed a little grubby and unloved. Such a shame as used to be a really lovely pub in a beautiful village with excellent customer service and food. Wouldn’t recommend and won’t be returning

The experience we had was so different from some other reviewers that it’s almost as if we were staying somewhere different! Check in was fine. Our room (Willoughby) was small but comfortable. Comfy bed. Good bed linen. Nice bathroom. Carpet needed replacing. But overall very good value for money. We had pre-dinner drinks in a small bar and we were on our own. It was good to chat to the friendly staff and find out more about the village, which is stunning by the way. We decided to eat dinner in splendid isolation. Our meal arrived promptly and was delicious. Lamb shank and fillet steak, both cooked to perfection and compliments to the chef. Chips to die for!, We followed with a shared brûlée. Again the cost of the meal was good value. We slept well. Still full from dinner and lack of exercise, we opted for poached eggs and toast for breakfast, both cooked well. The full English looked massive. We really enjoyed our whole experience at the Coach House and would not hesitate to book again. It has recently changed hands and a programme of renovation is being undertaken. We wish them well..

We arrived at 7 o’clock and were served our drinks at 7:10 it then took another 10 minutes to get hold of some menus and another 20 minutes to get the attention of the waitress to take our order. At 8 o’clock we questioned where our starters were and were told they would be another 10 minutes, at which time we left. When attempting to pay for our drinks the lady apologised and offered them free of charge; which was some consolation. They were obviously understaffed and one of the waiters just wandered around aimlessly not being of any help at all. The decor has been changed since we last went before lockdown, and it’s a pleasant place to be, however due to the bad service I am unable to comment on the meals. Perhaps service will improve after lockdown.

Booked a table for myself and friends. On arrival told we could have a drink in the garden as we arrived early, but then we seemed to be rushed to our table as the wait for food would be long even though it seemed empty. We had the feeling they wanted us in and out ASAP.It’s a shame. Arrived at 13:20 and although given a welcome, wasn’t what I would say customer service focused. Unfortunately no chef cooking meant the area manager was the replacement. Belly Pork run out at 13:30, so had to order the mixed grill. Should have just gone to the local chippy. Only 6 other customers in at the time. Mixed grill- over cooked meat, mushrooms and tomato not cooked. Left half of the food for the many flies who had also booked in for lunch!!No interest from the staff as only there part time but having to work more than full time. Nothing from the area manager to apologise for the poor food, service and awful cleaning standards. Access to the garden covered in cigarette ends, leafs all over the walkway and general rubbish. Won’t be heading back that’s for sure.

Perhaps it would advantageous to place on website. That booking as required evening in the empty Garden area. On arrival I asked could we eat. A rude lady said, have you booked. I said I am in the garden area. She said we are fully booked and you can’t eat. Nice greeting. Won’t be visiting again. Rude, unprofessional, unhelpful. I thought the Eat out yo help out was to promote the trade. This pud doesn’t and shouldn’t be included in the scheme Shame, it use to be a very nice pub with the previous owners/ management.

Decided to try for a lunchtime drink/snack as we were aware this establishment had reopened under new management. Efficient Covid precaution with social distancing but the first question we were asked was had we booked and as we hadn't they were fully booked but could possibly manage olives/ a light bite from the top section of the menu as they were busy. Soft drink selection was good (Thanks Rishi) and the menu was varied if not on offer as we hadn't booked. I also agree with previous comments-the outdoor seating is in dire need of some TLC/paint to ensure proper cleaning is possible. A local couple advised they had completely redone the kitchens whilst in lockdown, pity they didn't have time to paint the benches whilst adding lots of wooden posts, or replace the plastic flower baskets. A lovely spot for shade/cool dining when its hot, but a pity the previous landlords approach to "no booking = limited/ no meal continues....." Two more cars arrived in the two hours we were there so still empty when we left well after lunchtime.-flexibility for walk in/cyclists not improved which is a real shame.

I booked a table for 4 with 3 of my friends, our first lunch together since going into lock down back in March. We were the only ones in there which was nice. Very disappointed that their menus weren't disposal. Our table was booked for 12.15 our food arrived at 1.30! Good job my friends can take longer lunch hours from work otherwise we would have had to walk out. The food was good but don't bother checking the menu online before you go as they didnt have half the stuff thats on there. I know they have only just been able to re-open again but if you want to keep your business you should pay attention to detail. There are lots of other places fighting for the business right now.

Skips of waste/rubbish in the car park because the waste company have not been paid. A magnificent country hotel and pub down the drain by incompetance

I went there to suss it out ahead of a possible business meal there. It has a wonderful reputation as a pub for its food.I'm glad that I did try it first and I'm sorry that I didn't read the other recent reviews on here before I did.The food was appalling and in an empty pub on a Saturday lunchtimeI cant be bothered to list all of the food's failings. It was truly one of the most awful meals that I have had in recent years served on stone cold plates by a silent unsmiling waitress. It was cold, burnt, rubberised and basically utter garbage. The beer was also not of a good standard.Interesting that of all the other bad reviews, the management couldn't be bothered to get off its backside and respond on Tripadvisor. It's very sad, This used to be a lovely pub with fantastic food. It's now a shadow of it's former self and my recommendation to anyone is: stay home or go elsewhere. It is quite clear that the chef, if there is one, has no idea what they're doing and the management, if there is one, couldn't care less and also has no idea what they're doing.Would I go here again? No. Nor until the current management has failed and been replaced

As previous reviewers have found, whether it's a change of ownership or some other reason, The OCH is not what it used to be. The quality of the food and a more limited choice experienced at lunch last week was so disappointing. In the car park, an overloaded skip smells and paving slabs on the entrance steps have cracked and are unsafe (pointed out to staff on a previous visit). Having eaten there regularly over the last couple of years, sadly, we won't be patrons any more.

So very disappointed, this used to be our go to place for a special meal, a bit pricey but so worth it and the food was amazing! Sadly this place is under new ownership and was pretty much deserted on a Saturday night! The menu is a tenth the size it used to be and very pricey, the starters arrived cold (ham and cheese croquettes) the tomato chutney was literally tinned chopped tomatoes. The mains were bland, tasteless and microwaved, we couldn't even eat half of it, and we were really hungry! I have given 2 stars and this is because our waitress was lovely and reduced our bill because of the poor standard of food. So we will not be returning and this is no longer our special place for a treat, which makes me very sad, I loved this place.

Disappointed, it was supposed to be a treat. We had been there before some years ago and thought how lovely it was but I don't know what has happened in the mean time but it was not the same by any stretch of the imagination. It lacked a little atmosphere, but it was a week day - we were tucked away in a little booth which was pleasant enough. Waitress was ok, nothing to grumble about. The food however had quite a limited choice. I thought this was because each dish was going to be beautifully done, favours considered etc. This was not the case, I could have made the food at home and made them much nicer and I'm not a chef. The price point was far to high for the meal that was served. I would expect a much more elevated meal and as such it made it hugely disappointing. Unfortunately the special day we were celebrating was spoilt by a mediocre meal.

The lunch menu was limited but what we were served was a inferior variation of what was on the menu. Cajun chicken appeared to be tasteless, chicken slices and the vegetarian pizza was loaded mainly with peppers not the artichokes stated on the menu. Pretty dreadful from start to finish.. arrived for lunch with the family and sat outside because we have a dog. Got drinks and looked at the menu which was limited, but there seemed to be something everyone would eat. Unfortunately the food was dreadful.. I ordered the Cajun chicken.. Not only did the chicken not have any type of flavor, but it was quite clearly packaged, ready cooked chicken that someone had heated up. (I know this because I buy the exact same chicken at home for sandwiches, but to be served it in a restaurant.... come on!?) This meant it was basically flavorless and incredibly dry.. Thankfully I ordered chips (oven chips, like you could buy at any supermarket) so I did at least have something to eat! One person ordered pizza with certain toppings.. half the toppings arrived, half were missing and replaced with whatever was laying around in the kitchen at that time. Service was poor at best. Having finally received our ‘meal’ we were told that we should have collected our cutlery from inside.. something we were not informed about, or for that matter seems appropriate for a restaurant... needless to say we won’t be returning!

Totally indifferent welcome, roasts took a good 30 minutes to come out, cauliflower cheese arrived a good 10 minutes later, complained about the first roast chicken dinner being pink, photo is of the replacement . Meal was rightly taken off the bill without us asking. £13 for a roast dinner with brought in Yorkshire puddings and a distinctly yellow/orange (cheese sauce granules) sauce on the cauliflower cheese. Queued at the bar for more drinks after and pretty much ignored for 5 minutes while the 3 or 4 staff on duty had a chat. Total rip off for drinks, £7 odd for a large Pinot and food that seemed to be mainly brought in. Will not return.

I had business meetings and needed a place to stay. I booked online on bookings.com and they wanted to secure my booking with card details but did not take payment. I though ok, I'll pay when I check out. However, I came to the hotel after a long day and within 10 seconds I was asked to pay. There was no hello, hows your journey etc. While I was paying the lady dealing with me was talking to people across me at the bar like I was not there and not important. 10 minutes later, I had paid for my room been ignored and got my key. Further to this, I was not direct to where my room was. So I had to find it on my own in another building outside. The rooms was ok, very clean bathroom which I loved. However, there was a bright green light above the door that could not be turned off in the dark. Breakfast was very simple. When I arrived it was almost like I got in the way of them finishing there morning shift. There was 1 mug and no plates to collect croissants etc. There was also no bowls to get cereals. Was very basic selection, I would rate this poor. Overall, the location Is great and pub is cute. I did not use this however. Plenty of on site parking, but there was a skip in the car park full of black bags that looked disgusting and smelt. It was a good place t rest my head

Maybe we were unfortunate as we were with a group of 12 and the restaurant just couldn't cope and we were seated for 2 hours before the main courses arrived, and even then the first 3 were cold. ! Some of the food was quite good - eg the potted crab and shrimp for starters, but generally nothing special. The sirloin steak was good, and the shallots excellent but the green peppercorn sauce appalling. My wife's burger was burnt - fortunately she was OK with that. I think when service (which was friendly and apologetic) is so slow it is difficult to enthuse about the food. Wine list limited. Can't say I would be rushing back. I visited the OCH for Sunday lunch. Staff very pleasant. I chose the roast beef. There was plenty on the plate but the meat was quite fatty and very chewy. Most of it went uneaten. For dessert, I decided on raspberry creme brûlée. It was very thick and stodgy and had a strong taste of amaretto which was not mentioned on the menu and is a flavour I hate. I would’ve chosen differently had it said this. Most of that went uneaten too. Won’t be rushing back

Have been for meals here before and have always enjoyed. Went a couple of weeks ago, fair to say service was not great all evening with the exception of 1 guy. I spilt my drink everywhere we cleaned up but no offer of moving table as floor was wet or even clean cutlery / napkins. Waiting staff not that helpful when asking about gluten free options, one of the meals was over cooked and too hard to cut let alone eat. We pointed this out when the waiter came to collect our plates as over half the dish had been left. and he agreed and said he would let the chef know. No apology, not even an offer to deduct from the bill. Went to pay for the bill and the waiting staff couldn't even serve the customers at the bar in the correct order of when customers arrived at the bar. There were 2 of us! I've mailed them twice to raise these issues but haven't heard back from the, at all. Very disappointing. Will not be going back again.

We've visited the OCH many times over the years, most recently twice over the Christmas period (once for a drink, once for a meal). To be honest, the food has been variable, mostly excellent, but occasionally dreadful, but the varied menu was very good and the sandwiches offered at lunchtimes were always excellent. This time we were surprised, and a little disappointed to find that the new owner has introduced a new menu offering considerably less choice. That said, the starters were excellent and my wife and daughter really enjoyed their mains (hence the 3 star rating). My main (fish and chips) wasn't great to be honest, the chips weren't as good as they have been in the past, the fish was quite tasteless, and the peas were cold. Given this I didn't consider the £80+ cost good value for money. Of greater concern though was that on both recent visits the place seemed much less welcoming than it used to be. The roaring log fire, which was one of the main attractions during winter, was a single just about glowing ember on our first recent visit and was out on our second. The service was efficient and polite but lacked the previous personal touch, and the general atmosphere was somewhat lacking, due primarily I think to the fact that there were very few customers in despite this being a normally busy time of year. So we were more than a little disappointed. We would expect a new owner to have the enthusiasm to make some positive changes to enhance the customer's experience, offer more choice, an improved ambience and maybe to spruce the place up a bit, it's looking rather tired. Instead it seems that cutting costs seems to be the highest priority, and given the few customers in on our two recent visits it seems that people are voting with their feet. I hope it's just that it's early days and that there are plans to make some changes moving forward. Because we love visiting the village we will continue to call in for a drink from time to time to see how things are going, but we won't eat there again until we see things improving, a warmer welcome, a good log fire in the winter, and a more varied menu. Until then we wouldn't recommend the OCH to anyone.

Unfortunately after high expectations we did not have a good experience. Things did not start well when we found the specific table we had booked had been given to someone else. The service was very slow with almost an hour between courses people were leaving and missing their coffee because it was quicker to go home for coffee. The main problem though was we sat there like many other tables with our coat on because it was so cold only to be advised it’s not their fault the heating was playing up I asked to see the manager to give them some feed back Thinking in the interests of customer service they may say have the wine on us but this was not the case. The meal was okay but not the fine dining we had been expecting overall their customer service was appalling and we will not be returning

We booked for 7.30pm for 4 including our two guests. We shared two starters which were both very good. Of our four main dishes, one was mediocre and for the other we asked for the dip to be on the side only. It wasn't and the dish was rejected. It returned quickly, which made me wonder how it could have been recooked. Neither of the two waiters checked if it was OK. There were no specials which I like to choose from and the massala fries only had a sprinkling of salt and pepper. We were given dessert menus but the waiter did not return for the order. We had to come to the bar for the bill. On leaving, we noticed the waiters were busy cleaning another room. It's unlikely we will return, particularly with guests. If you needed us to leave at a certain time, you could have advised us when we booked on the phone. Meal with 2 alcoholic and 2 soft drinks £107 plus service. NB This is the response we gave to an email requesting feedback. We had a reply saying it would be investigated and we will receive a response but nothing.

We had a really lovely B&B stay here. The rooms are in a separate building to the pub - so nice and quiet. Super comfy beds and cosy bed linen. The breakfast was fantastic - a perfect old school English Breakfast - with butchers sausages and black pudding, eggs cooked how you like them, hash browns, tomatoes..... Yummy. The staff made us feel very welcome and we were well looked after. They were particularly kind to our children - sorting them out with Hot Chocolates and unusual breakfast requirements. They even went to the trouble of posting home some much loved cuddly toys that had been left behind. Thank you Billy and Team.
