The Old White Horse in Havering

Went back last week and the door was closed and the carpark blocked I do hope its a refurbishment of the pub and not a closure because this is a great place to be.

Delicious food. Comfortable atmosphere

Garden and staff are lovely but the food was a disappointment. I have eaten here multiple times and its never been as bad as the recent time. Food wasn't that nice, food sent back as it was still frozen but this was taken of the bill, and a meal was missing.

This was the best Sunday roast I have had in a pub/restaurant in years! The beef was really tender, more like you would cook at home yourself, and the roast potatoes were absolutely perfect - so fluffy inside whilst crispy outside. The size of the Yorkshire - well - they wouldn’t be able to fit many of them into the oven in one go, they were so big!! Happy family type atmosphere, prompt service where nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended, and cant wait until I make my next visit. Well done all at The Old White Horse.

This is a nice pub with a nice garden, no food available on the day I visited. Potential is huge but the place is pretty soulless.

Pub grub not bad the pub is great though. Love the garden got drinking there and then in the evening went and listened to Elvis. He played live up there he was great

I joined a group of lovely people he recently for a funeral wake. I found the pub to be really pleasant with great stuff and a comfortable environment. Really friendly people I would definitely recommend this pub.

Absolutely disgusted , I’ve just been to this pub/ restaurant and disappointed is putting it mildly. I’d booked my table but that wasn’t ready two guys were faffing about about moving tables here n there , there’s a lovely dog walking around but not surely in and around people eating, then we get to the clientele shouting out loud about recent activity with his fresh foreskin !!!!! I’m not a prude but I don’t expect that kind of talk being shouted out in a public place. The menu is temporary which upon booking should have been explained there was no starters no sweets and chips with everything, to say I’m disappointed is an understatement , but I will never be entering this pub again

Definitely a Sunday roast place. On the menu for Sunday, it's the roast and not much else. The decorum inside is a bit 1970s, with plaid carpet (never thought I'd see one). The staff is nice, we went in with a baby and got bumped to a bigger table with more room. Pint variety is there, but don't expect dry ciders. The food is definitely the highlight. Not a gastropub, but grandma's level quality and quantity.

This is where we spent my husband's 70th birthday there were 15 of is and the service and food were exceptional would really recommend this place even for a drink

My Army friend and I live 69 miles apart We both paraded at ROMFORD on Remembrance Sunday. Your very welcoming pub was busy as you've started Sunday lunches again; but you made a space for us to be able to raise a Glass to "Absent Friends". Same time next year? We might even book a table.

I love this pub! The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is great. Really good for entertainment- we saw a singer called Ruby perform last night she was great fun.

Is an old 1970's style pub .. like stepping back in time .. service friendly and food really good just too brightly lit for my taste .. but if that doesn't bother you was very enjoyable evening with pub singer again felt 1970' if you get my meaning but we had a real giggle.

Disappointing visit, we arrived on opening, sat down were served our drinks. The four of us ordered our food and waited a while. After 10 or 15 minutes we were told no food had been delivered, so they couldn't fulfill our order. By this time four other people had been seated and were told the kitchen was closed. The staff were apologetic, but it just gives the impression that they can't be bothered to check what on the menu is available when they start their shift.

Wonderful roast lamb and all the trimmings way too big for me but delicious.

Went back again on 19th September, had booked the back room but upon arrival we were told it had been given to someone else with the poor excuse 'they didn't want to rush us' (we were told the owner would contact us as to why we couldn't have the room we booked but still waiting!) The seating offered did not match the amount we booked, Sunday lunch came and was nice, of the 8 desserts we ordered only 5 arrived, 2 were still frozen and we had to wait a long time for the remaining 3. There was a distinct "atmosphere' in the pub which many of us found uncomfortable. We will not be returning.

I’ve driven past this pub for over 25 yrs. popped in today on the off chance for lunch. Was greeted by really friendly staff. And very accommodating to. Food portions were plentiful, with plenty to choose from. My daughter is on the ASD spectrums and only eats burgers when out. These wasn’t on the menu but when asked, staff said they could serve her a cheeseburger. High compliment from my daughter she said the burger was so good she would happily back for a meal again. Highly recommend.

We live literally down the road and as we took our dog for a walk right past the pub, we stopped for dinner on the way back and sat in the massive beer garden. In actual fact, we were the only ones in there and it was great. Our dog joined us for dinner and she had pretty much free rein of the garden (on a 50ft lead). The food was hot and tasty and the service provided by Shaun by excellent. He was chatty and friendly and he did make me laugh when he kept saying "I'm sorry" for no reason. I think it must be a British thing. Given covid, I am glad The Old White Horse survived and I really hope it continues to thrive. My only observation is the beer garden. It is massive, it backs on to fields and has a view of the setting sun but it's a little bit underwhelming and neglected. However, this is just an observation and certainly won't stop us going here again.

Fab pub to go n sit outside and have lunch...lunch was fantastic

Stopped there for a coffee and lunch after a bike ride with my boyfriend. Felt very uncomfortable and not welcome because of the staff and other customers. Waited outside for 25 minutes for 2 coffees. Not only all regular customers coming after us been served first, we did not get what we ordered and left.

This place never fails just had prawn cocktail starter and gammon food is so good but then it always is nice friendly staff glad only live a mile up the road glad they’re all back open again

Very tasty traditional dishes with real wholesome nutrition and a decent selection of dishes. All served in a traditional 'Family House' atmosphere with friendly staff and local customers. Well worth a visit. S.G.

Stopped by here on the off chance for a roast lunch, I must say there covid protection is first class and the roast oh my god what a huge yorki with my beef , wife had mixed meat she enjoyed it to, we will be back

Just had take away Sunday Roast. Roast beef, with all the trimmings including (possibly) the biggest Yorkshire Pudding in the world! What a delicious Sunday treat... even included a small bottle of wine. When I got home (4.5 miles away), the food was still hot and how great was it, having a roast at home without slaving over a hot stove? If this is to be our “new normal,” I’d like more, please.

We have not long finished a thoroughly enjoyable takeaway Sunday roast from here. A little wary initially doing it as have never done this before. Every bit of it was great, all fresh vegetables, cauliflower cheese, carrots, parsnip, green beans, cabbage, 5 large roast potatoes, huge yorkshire pudding and lovely tender lamb, and gravy in a separate pot. Very full up now! Will certainly do it again. Well done and thank you.

We've visited this pub on a couple of occasions before and have always been impressed by the warm friendly welcome from the staff, the excellent family friendly beer garden and the reasonably priced meals. We can only applaud the way the manager deals with order problems too. Basically we had ordered a main meal was no longer available however they took well over three quarters of an hour to advise us this was the case. The issue was immediately rectified with an upgraded steak and a free bottle of wine compliments of the manager. What more can I say to this excellent customer service? Will definitely visit again when pubs open up again

Too small, Didn't like the staff. A bit Rood wouldn't go there again.

My dad had roast lamb and I had roast beef everything was delicious, hot, plenty of roast potatoes with extra individual grave pots, my dad is 85 and finished all of his lunch. The staff and Landlady are wonderful and so welcoming, it is a lovely family pub and restaurant plenty of space they are always so accommodating and super friendly. I gave a 5 rating as it has everything you need for home cooked food and a great cosy bar, friendly locals....in a lovely environment.

Have eaten here many times but not since it's been taken over. The menu has changed but alot of the old favourites are still on there. Nice to see the usual staff are still in there. They are always very welcoming and friendly and very helpful. The food was lovely and plenty of it. Cannot fault it. It was very quiet as I think some people are a bit wary with a management change but as far as I could see there is no difference. Don't be put off by a couple of negative reviews. I eat in here quite a bit and it's just as good as it's always been.

Cold plates. Cold food. Odd portion sizes. Bar staff lovely as always. Cook plonked at the bar backwards and forwards while we was there. Very unprofessional

Visited this establishment on the 4th Jan for my fathers 80th birthday. He'd previously had a great experience, good meals, hot and cooked just as liked previously on numerous visits a couple of years ago. Group of 5 of us visit on the 4th Jan for this birthday on his previous experience and recommendation, and the steaks advertised as sirloin were more like frying steak. Three steak meals ordered, one turned up without any peas strangely..... Dad's meal of cottage pie he'd left half as not up to standard. Couldn't wait to leave. A shame as this this place he'd recommended as had used several times before with no complaint prior to takeover from original people running. Gone down, and for £74 for our meals, felt robbed as the standard was rubbish for what we got. Couldn't wait to order taxi back home.

my wife and i have been coming here once a month or so for years for Sunday roast and it always excellent the food is great old fashioned and plentifull, the staff are helpfull friendly and ready to accomadate your every need they even managed a few take away dinners for us when my wife broke her leg a couple of years ago cannot say enough good things about this place, Thank you The Old White Horse 10/10

Arrived today Sunday lunchtime. Very limited menu choice of various roast or lasagne. No children meals offered. Three of us ordered belly of pork it was so over cooked and really tough couldn't eat it. At £13.95 for one meal it should be good. Thankfully desserts were good. Very expensive meal for Sunday lunch

had a lovely turkey dinner with all the trimings and apple pie for desert food was great staff friendly and helpful good idea to reserve a table if there is a few of you loads to drink good selection

The pub recently changed hands and requires some local support. The food is good and well priced. The staff friendly as well as ample space in the car park. I'm looking to summer next year when they intend holding a Chili challenge. (2020)

Dissapointing experience. Friendly staff but not too attentive as there weren’t many diners in for a busy lunchtime session. But having been before and enjoyed our last visit we decided to come again. From a selection or real ales, there was only two on offer. My first choice had just gone vinegary and cloudy so left with the one choice. That was okay. The food is usually of a good standard, however, we were informed that mashed potato was not available. Our friends chose fries and I chose sauté potatoes. When my dish arrived that also had fries on it as I was then told that sauté potatoes were also not available. Okay, so couldn’t someone take the trouble to offer an alternative of my choosing before assuming I would have the same as the rest of my party?Chips and new potatoes were available! I have visited this pub a few months before and enjoyed a good meal with the same friends so we elected to go there on this occasion. Pity, it’s a convenient location for our party to meet up but sadly, I doubt we’ll be going back in a hurry.

We often come here and have always had the most delicious home cooked meals. It's my favourite place to eat. The portions are huge and they do the best roast dinners for miles. Really relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Sometimes you wait a bit for the food to come out but that is expected if you want freshly home cooked food. It's always well worth the wait.
