Mawney Arms in Havering

The Mawney Arms is an absolute delight and easily one of my favourite spots in the area. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm, friendly service that makes you feel right at home. The staff are attentive, welcoming, and always happy to help – nothing is too much trouble. The food is consistently excellent – well-cooked, generous portions, and packed with flavour. Whether you’re stopping in for a classic pub lunch or a hearty evening meal, there’s something on the menu for everyone. It’s clear they take pride in what they serve. But what really sets the Mawney Arms apart is the garden. It’s a beautiful, spacious area that’s perfect for relaxing with friends or family, especially when the sun is out. Plenty of seating, a laid-back atmosphere, and a great mix of sunshine and shade – it’s a proper little oasis. All in all, a lovely pub with great food, brilliant service, and a garden you’ll want to spend all day in. Highly recommended!

Came in for some food to eat and me and my family are regulars. Almost everytime we come there is no food, no chef or limited food. Who does the ordering of food??

Visit quite regular, service always good and food excellent, always served with a friendly smile and banter. Ellen is a valued member of your staff especially when attending a private function recently she went above and beyond.

Went here with a group of friends and we all chose something different off the menu. Staff were ok but not that welcoming. Of the seven meals we complained about three of them and, to be honest, none of them were great. To be fair refunds were issued without any argument but some of us were left hungry. Crossed off the list.

Happy as always. Lynsay and the team are fantastic.

Fantastic food and a generally cosy pub and garden

In the past year or so I've always had a great experience at this pub. The team are super friendly and welcoming every time, which makes such a difference. The atmosphere is relaxed with a good mix of regulars and visitors. Food is tasty, with good portions, and it’s reasonably priced too. The regular quiz nights are always good fun too - lots of good comradery but not too competitive! The management team have made good improvements over the last year or so and introduced some fab regular nights which is great to have on your doorstep.

Such a warm welcoming clean establishment. The garden is quite large to be fair wouldn’t think that by the out side looks beautiful out there and well looked after. Great value for money and always a lovely selection of drinks to choose from.

Attended a staff party here in early february, the buffet was very nice. The DJ provided a good atmosphere and all around was a good night!

She is an absolute gem—bubbly, full of life, and has a personality that could light up an entire room! Her energy and enthusiasm made us feel right at home. The food was spot on—delicious, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with care. The service was just as impressive, with every detail attended to with a smile. It’s rare to find a place that gets everything right, but The Mawney Arms truly does. We can’t wait to come back again soon! Thank you, Lynsay, and the whole team for such a wonderful experience.

I had a wake on 28th January 2025. I booked the event with Julie, who was very helpful with food choices, numbers etc. On the day she was helpful, courteous and very caring towards my family and friends. She kept asking if I was OK ( she was aware it was my mums funeral) and if their was anything more she could do for us. Thank you Julie, you enhanced our event and I will not forget that.

A Big Thankyou to the angel who helped me today (bar attender serving drinks) It was raining non stop and I was in crisis with toddler bleeding from mouth and running around like headless chicken. Lovely lady (sorry I didn’t even catch your name) allowed me to use their car park to sort out my day. Glad people like this exist even today!!!!!

Warm welcome, and seated straight away. Ladies behind the bar are so pleasant and so warm and friendly. Was given a large area to be seated (party of 12) plenty of room if family wanted to move around. Huge selection of food on the menu. Just a great all round happy evening had by the birthday girl.

Popped in for a drink, door to get inside a little difficult for someone in a wheelchair. However, once in very friendly and polite and helpful staff and cosy atmosphere and pet friendly too.

Food was poor to average to say the least - The website states "Excellent Traditional Pub Food" - they recently changed their menu and they no longer have new potatoes, the only things you can get are chips or mash. We ordered the Sea Bass with the curry sauce, 50 mins later they came and told us that they did not have the sauce - they could have told us this a lot earlier and we could have ordered something else. The Lasagne was very "sloppy" and quite tastless, the "Dressed salad" consisted of 3 leaves of very wet lettuce, 1 slice of tomato, and a couple of bits of onion. The the garlic bread was dripping in butter and very soggy. We will not be eating here again any time soon.

I can not fought this place one bit the food was lovely the welcome and service was fantastic. They came to check everything was ok with our meals and was so friendly even had a little chat. Came in on Saturday, had a table booked and was greeted by a lovely man. After being seated, went back up to the bar and the shorthaired lady behind the bar was so rude

Service was brilliant, one member of staff went above and beyond to look after our party of 9 we arrived with an extra person and rearranged our table to accommodate them , the table was beautifully decorated, food was lovely turkey was lovely and moist with plenty of it, those who ordered from the non festive menu were really happy with their food, all the food came out together was really reasonable price wise we was expecting our bill to be higher, definitely recommend.

The food and service were amazing. Calm atmosphere for children with additional needs.

Also meant to add, my partner went up to the manager on 15.12.24 and asked for some turkey as well as his beef and he’d be happy to pay extra and she said no and was very short with him. Shocking. And then when we wanted to complain to her afterwards about the small portions she went and hid. The barman said she was coming over and she never did!!! So we had to leave. We paid £37.00 for 2 roast dinners and left so hungry due to terribly small portions. Never going back again, and im a female size 8 waist !!!!! Then to top it off they finished off the evening by bringing in a church brigade who came to sermon us about religion. Very weird place!

Ordered roast dinner my partner and I. They served us practically empty plates with hardly any food on it. Massive amounts of space on the plate. 2 bits of small slices of gammon, 3 potatoes, tiny amounts of cabbage and lettuce. Was so hungry after had to go and get something else to eat afterwards. Food was tasty but just a shame that they hardly put any food on the plates. If you want a kids' size meal come here.

Fast friendly service, amazingly comfortable environment, and great food. I'd personally recommend slightly smaller plates or a few more chips on the plate though. My fish looked a little lonely.

Only had a couple of drinks on my visit. The menu offered a good range of food at reasonable prices and the food they bought out to other customers looked nice and good size meals. Nice atmosphere and plenty of seating for both dining customers and like myself and my partner, having drinks.

An absolute hug of a pub. We walked in to see two fires cosily burning bright, it was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated for Christmas. The staff were smiley, chatty and really engaging. I was advised there was a 50% discount on main meals, that put a bigger smile on my face. All our food courses were served promptly. I can truly say all the food was good quality, generous and utterly delicious. I ordered the posh fish and chips, the battered sea bass, superb! I was honestly impressed with the entire visit and will return.

Very enjoyable Sunday roast - good food, service and pleasant atmosphere

First time in about 4 years since I visited this pub, and it is still good. Selection of drinks was good, as were the bar staff. We didn't have any food so I can't give it a rating.

Lovely family meal here on Sunday - Ellen made us feel really welcome and was so helpful with the kids orders.

We held a wake for my late father in law here. It’s a lovely pub with great staff. The manager took a great deal of time talking me through the food options and the timing. She suggested a suitable location within the pub which was perfect as we wouldn’t impact on other guests and likewise we didn’t impact on them. Because of the age profile and mobility issues some of the guests had the area was very flat with wide access for a wheelchair and a disabled toilet nearby. The food was freshly cooked and served hot. The food was well presented and smelt delicious. The ham sandwiches were commented on as the ham was thickly sliced and very tender and the sausage rolls vanished immediately! The whole spread catered for everyone including vegetarian and soft food for those with dental problems! The management team checked several times to make sure we were ok and not running out of teas or coffees or if we needed anything else. The added advantage was the ability to park easily. We were not rushed to leave and spent several hours there also taking advantage of the bar facilities. It was a very relaxed environment and enabled those present to reminisce of times with my father in law. I have eaten from the menu here before and always enjoyed it. To be honest I didn’t know they offered this facility and would recommend this as a great value for money buffet option. Well done to the Mawney Arms Team!

My family and I came in this evening for a Sunday roast at the mawney arms. The staff were fantastic, our meals looked absolutely stunning.. we were served in a quick and timely manner the manager linsay was lovely and friendly, Adam on the bar was very welcoming, everybody was smiling and friendly.. All in all a fantastic experience

We came down for a Sunday roast today and was greeted by a lovely female manager behind the bar who was warm and welcoming. Our Sunday roasts was tasty. We will be back.
