Waiting staff very helpful and friendly. Our meals were lovely. The only fault was that the chips were lukewarm and the table we were given was by the toilet. Would have preferred being in the bar area. Was large party there also, who were very noisy, so would have been better if we had been seated further away. Apart from that was fine and would definitely visit again.

Fantastic service, quite happy to make many interesting alterations to my food so i enjoyed a delicious custom baked bean custard and bbq sauce chicken burger. That is genuinely what i ate, but i could tell there was a lot of skill behind that chargrilled chicken and overall i had a very positive experience at this place. Definitely worth a stop!

I went here for 2 separate funeral teas. The food was amazing. The service at one was excellent, nothing too much. The service towards the end of the second was not to the same standard.

Family and friends have just been to a funeral and we went back to the huntsman and hound for a drink in the gardens . now a week later we have all been fined for parking there .WHO WOULD SPEND THERE MONEY IN A PLACE LIKE THIS

Great place for a quiet dinner and drinks on a Sunday evening. Table service via the Ember Inns app or at the bar. Menu options means there's something for everyone, even children's options.

Staff were really friendly, helpful and efficient. The service was quick and the food was amazing!! Excellent value for money.

We are only really able to use this pub after trips to family graves in the nearby crematorium, so being Mothers Day booked today for 1.30pm. Traffic was so light that we arrived an hour early, but this created no problem and a charming young lady showed us to our seats. We both opted for the roast turkey which was exceptional. This is premium pub food in every respect, well presented well served and better than a lot of West End pubs for Sunday lunch. It is always such a pleasurable experience. We only stayed for a quick meal on the way home, but the customer service here is a credit to the organisation, and I honestly feel that this is the best Ember Inn I have ever visited. If I lived nearer I would be a total regular, and I only hope that the people in the locale appreciate exactly how good this pub is. Hope to visit again very soon.

This pub is next to corbets tey crematorium so would have a quick snack to settle my stomach prior to a family funeral. However despite there being plenty of free tables inside they would not serve food as I wasn't part of a wake party. Let's hope the crem doesn't close and they lose their cash cow as they would need a pretty sharp adjustment to their attitude towards customer service

Lovely atmosphere - nice decor - amazing staff

Came here for my mum’s wake. I cannot recommend this venue enough. From booking the venue to our arrival for the wake everything was so smooth and the staff were excellent. One of my party has severe allergies and the staff could not have been more helpful. We were actually advised against using the Huntsmen by our funeral director BUT I’m so glad we didn’t listen to them because the venue they recommended treated me shockingly! Thank you Huntsmen and Hounds for a stress free and wonderful wake for my mum!

We had the wake for my mum here today. We were really impressed right from the beginning. When we made our reservation we chose the menu and all options were explained to us. On the day the service, staff and quality of the food was excellent. All staff were extremely helpful. Someone in our party has severe allergies. Staff took the time to come over and sit with them and go through the app they have. I'm rather fussy and like things right and I really can't fought anything which to me is excellent and I would like to recommend anyone having a wake to consider here as it really made a sad day a little brighter. You do not have to pay for the car park however you must enter your reg number as you enter the pub. All in all fabulous. Thanks to all the staff

Food reasonably priced and served in a friendly manner. Service behind the bar was surly and the lady seemed rather bored. The worst thing was the fact that I was subsequently charged £60 for parking in their car-park! I don't doubt that there were signs both in the car park and somewhere on the bar, but nobody drew my attention to the necessity to register my vehicle. I don't expect to pay for parking at a pub, and will not go back.

Visited on a Saturday evening, booked a table on line ( the process was very easy) , but didn't really need to bother. It was empty most of the evening. Food was good, not exceptional, but the prices were very good. The service was spot on and overall, it was an enjoyable visit. I'd go again for sure...

Food was superb, service was prompt. Julie was very polite and friendly, just one of the reasons we always come back. Never had a bad meal.

What a wonderful experience I had this afternoon at huntsman and hounds. Words literally can’t describe how wonderful the staff are and how accommodating they were. Lorraine was very warm and welcoming to myself and went literally above and beyond to make my visit special. Lorraine gives first class service and her food was exceptional. The food prices are good and the food/service was out of this world. Lorraine is an asset to this pub and I can’t wait to visit again.

My friends and I have been going to the pub for plus ten years. The food is always tasty and wholesome, and very good value. The staff are always welcoming, friendly, and make your visits feel special. Quiz nights are amazing, full of fun and friendships. A special mention for Lorraine, Steve and the ladies who all make our visits so enjoyable. Thank you all.

This place can be lovely. I had a lovely meal on a Sunday night, the food was much better than expected, the staff were attentative, the prices low. If driving here, remember to enter your car reg in the computer on arrival or you face receiving a parking ticket.

Roast dinner was delicious and such good value with the Sunday set menu. Portions were big and service was great! Thank you to chefs Jo & Damian and Marcie & Steve for their service.

Very nice staff and nice place. Open fire very welcoming. Young tall guy with a beard who works at the bar! Apologies didn't catch his name! Is very good at his job and is a credit to the establishment. Excellent. On my next visit I'll get his name and mention him in my next post.

Great food cheaper than other local establishments

Came to the huntsman and hounds for Sunday lunch and was greeted by Georgia she was very accommodating to us and made the afternoon very enjoyable and my Sunday beef rib was cooked by Lorraine and was cooked to perfection thanks again!

Always first class food and service, reasonably priced, excellent service. Steaks are always cooked to perfection, much better than their sister pub close by

Good beer and food. Extensive menu and lunchtime deals. Very comfortable, spacious seating and a relaxed atmosphere. Update: My wife and I visited again at lunchtime today. It was really busy as the pub is close to the South East Essex Crematorium and they were hosting a wake. The service was still excellent considering how many people were inside. I recommend that rather than just arrive you should book beforehand before you visit to avoid disappointment. I have not amended my star rating as the staff were excellent and helpful under pressure.

We have received a horrible experience from the staff at this pub. As soon as we walked in, the lady at the bar gave us a dirty look and said not to order any food as kitchen was closed… at 8pm Friday night? We have been here before and kitchen was open at this time. Other people were having food too. She then rudely told us to get a table closer to the bar, as the other area was closed, so we did, even though we wanted another table. I have ordered a beer and 2 soft drinks as the other 2 people did not have an ID. The lady refused to serve us as only I had an ID, at which I have explained that my friends are having a soft drink and don’t require ID. She still refused to serve us, unless we all show an ID, so we left. Safe to say, we will not return ever again. No wonder your place is empty on Friday night - start training your staff how to smile and properly serve customers.

Always nice food and service, never had a bad meal. The real ale pumps often promise more than they deliver. (I.e all badges showing but only one actually available)

Marcelle the waitress was rather nice & accommodating, seating us by a warm fireplace. The young barman was helpful & friendly too. Can't complain about the service provided. Loved my seabass meal & small dessert of waffle+strawberry, cream & chocolate sauce with latte. Happy to know they serve small desserts! Had 40% off the mains & free Guinness with Ember Inn app. Extra bonus. Would recommend eating there. Not overly crowded either. Nice atmosphere.

Couldn't fault the place at all, ideal location to hold a group meal, wake, wedding reception or just a social visit. We came from France for a funeral and the wake was held here and was not only respectful but the service was excellent.

Came in today for a few drinks and a meal with my friends, was served by the lovely lady with red hair and glasses I believe her name is Marcy, she was very polite and made sure everything was good with our food and ensured we had a wonderful time. I would defiantly recommend this pub as every time I come in I am made welcome:)

We come here every year for Christmas & this year was by far the best yet! For the quality & selection of food it is incredibly reasonably priced. The food was tasty & plentiful. Considering there are 20 of us the service was amazing. No one waited too long foe their food & staff member Lorraine constantly on hand for drinks ( she's a real asset to the team). We are never rushed & always made welcomed.

Once again another fantastic Xmas day dinner with my family, 20 of us in total, amazing service from Lorraine/ Eva / harry / Libby nothing was too much trouble. Met with friends for drinks, wanted to order some food for a baby and nachos for the table. Some others were debating ordering lunch. We were sat at a table with a table number and a QR code, ordered a kids fishfingers and nachos, only for someone to come and tell us apparently we weren’t allowed to eat at that table. No real reasoning or explanation apparently you have to have pre booked a table to be able to eat there. This has not been my experience in the past. Also seem to be selectively dog friendly, as one of our group bought a dog and was told she wasn’t allowed in, but a short while later multiple dogs were in the bar with nothing said… Overall a horrendous experience… rude staff, terrible customer service and a lot of custom was lost due to their refusal to allow us to order food. Can not imagine the issue with allowing a baby to eat fishfingers at a seated table.

Took my kids to the Father Christmas breakfast and wow what a lovely experience. Greeted by one of the staff members as we walked in the door dressed as an elf and made fuss about the kids knowing it was all about them, the whole experience was lovely so was the food - had to get the name of the elf as she was amazing with everyone who walked though the door and made sure everyone was welcomed - thank you Julie Brand - we will be back soon!!

Had the Christmas turkey which was beautiful. Great service at bar and also Eve who served our meals. Julie welcomed us like old friends even though we live a few miles away and only eat here occasionally. Pub is spotlessly clean and if I lived nearer this would be my go to venue. Looking forward to visiting again next time we are in the area.

We booked this place for 5 family members who we had not seen since July. When we arrived we were placed on table suitable for 4 not 5 close to a long table of young mums and toddlers, I asked to be moved as with the children. Screaming we could not think straight, we were told there were no other tables available, after about 30 mins the mums with the children left. Our meals came up and apart from mine which was a beef rib they were all very nice. My meat was full of gristle and the veg was hard and cold, in fairness to the staff they took my meal off the bill, our desserts however were lovely. The only thing that spoilt this for us was the kids party only a few feet away loud kids music and the conga around the restaurant. We were going to stay for for drinks and coffee but we were shouting at each other because we couldn’t hear above the music and noise. Will not return another year also out of all of the restaurant chains we visit they didn’t take our blue light card as they only take it Monday to Thursday. So we will be looking for a new place to meet up with our family next Christmas. The staff however were lovely and the food service was good.

The best kept secret in Upminster, best breakfast in Upminster by a CountryMile at the Huntsman, (you would be mad not...) you get 2 eggs, 2 grilled sausages, 3 grilled bacon, grilled tomato, hash brown, mushroom, Heinz bake beans, 2 slices of toast, £7. All the products are perfectly cooked, (NOT just dropped in a fryer) grilled as they should be, FRESH bread always, Real HP and Real Heinz sauce, not a cheap substitute, ALWAYS served with LOVE and a SMILE, nothing is ever too much trouble, a real local gem, with truly passionate and lovely people, hats off to all the chefs and the whole team, Lorraine, Denise, Georgia, Jo, Steve, Marcel, Joe and everyone else that MAKES the Huntsman the Huntsman. A great place for a pint, Lunch, a meeting, a breakfast, a social night out, and a brilliant quiz on a Wednesday. What can I say... Try it.

Had a stop in here on a walk on Sunday afternoon. It’s very frustrating and I don’t expect the staff to understand but if you like keg beer and see five or six options apparently available, then when you ask for one but get told only the one that tastes like shandy to put it politely is available , it’s disappointing. They used to turn the crests around so you knew which were in use but it seems they can’t be bothered anymore. Anyway rant over and maybe they will take this point on board and at least turn the crests around when unavailable……please ?!
