Absolutely amazing I went today as a birthday meal and it was incredible the service was amazing in its own so nice and welcoming and polite what a lovely place I may be only a teenager but I know manners and places that are amazing Besides the atmosphere and service the food was exquisite lovely I had the triple combo and oh my goodness so lovely never had food so well cooked and amazing in my 14 years of living it felt like I was in a Michelin star restaurant By the way my waiter was Chris and was very nice the best service person I have had at that restaurant Harvester thanks for the amazing meal keep it up -Dylan

Just been to the Harvester at Hornchurch and was served by Sarah who was brilliant. She was friendly, efficient and most importantly got our orders spot on. The only thing that lost them a star was the price; this is no longer a mid priced meal out. For two of us, two courses and two soft drinks it would have been £50 if I hadn’t had a coupon. A suggestion would be reduce the cost if you don’t want the salad bar (this isn’t free but included in the price).

Came in for Xmas eve lunch, the food was outstanding, great atmosphere and staff were cheery, welcoming and friendly xx

Just had breakfast for 10 people! Christmas eve And it was the worst food exper.iance we v ever had cold food horrendous cheap luke warm coffee! Unfriendly unsmiling staff ! And the so called chef's picking food up with bare hands!!awful place go and spend your money in nessies or marleys or la moulin in hornchurch ! All good

Refused a plate!! I ordered a salad as a main meal £6ish I was Refused a plate given a finger bowl. I cancelled my salad believing I should have a plate. I had to order meat to receive a plate I did not want the meat but had to do so to receive a plate! It was on the serving hatch for quite a while. I asked Theresa for my plate of meat she refused and then after realising it was there gave me my plate.. with meat. I had a plate for my meal hoorah! The reply to my complaint insisted that the compass harvester is happy I made trips to the salad bar with my tiny bowl. I did put the contents on to a plate. For a meal at Christmas with my family I found your refusal for a plate for a main meal ridiculous, rude and pedantic! Shame on you for a very grinch like experience. Hang on to your plates I won’t be coming back! Unhappy customer.

Usual excellent service from Laraine. Food was tasty and mostly well cooked (roasties a little under). Great value for money.

We’ve been here a few times as a family and I can honestly say this was the best experience we’ve had. The decor is really lovely and fresh. The service, by both Katie and Theresa was efficient, friendly, knowledgeable and funny! They really took care of us, even without us having to ask. The food too was really good. I used to find it bland but they’ve really upped their game. Great time had by all. Such a good experience. Thank you!

We visited this evening and had a lovely meal. Our server was fantastic, they took our food order and another tables large drinks order by memory and got everything exactly right. The chef attending to the salad bar area was out every few minutes replenishing any thing running low and cleaning up any mess. The area was spotless. The food was very well presented with good portion sizes. I had the belly pork which was delicious. We will definitely be returning.

Well we were greated by Teresa a very polite loving person were served by Chris very polite and helpful and Amy wasn't our server but made sure we were comfortable and made us feel very comfortable with her beautiful smile they are all major assets to the harvester team thankyou for making our dining experience happy and relaxing defo worth the visit not just for food but they make you feel at home I will be back

Went on a Saturday for lunch (9 November). The salad bar had a good selection & was fully stocked with fresh seasonal salad including pineapple chunks. The chef was constantly checking the salad bar & restocking as and when. Very good. We ordered chicken skewer with red peppers & sweet white onion on it. The meal comes with crispy chips, flatbread & rainbow slaw. The chicken was perfectly cooked & a large serving. We both enjoyed our meal which was served by a polite and friendly server. We would recommend the food & it was a very nice birthday lunch. This restaurant has recently had a makeover & was clean and comfortable. Yes we will return. Thank you

Make sure if you arrive by car and park you register you car registration other wise you will get ticket. Basic Harvester nothing special but not as good value as it use to be.

Lovely staff member bright and intelligent made the meal fun

The service was lacking; we were sort of greeted on entry but then had to wait for the staff to agree who was doing what shift between them, before we were seated. The table we were seated at had a cold draft from the front door, so we asked to move. Our main server didn't smile and didn't look happy to be there at all, and was not enthusiastic. When our food was ready it sat at the kitchen counter for at least 5 minutes before a server picked it up, while some other servers walked past it. The food was fine but the turkey burger was ruined by using 'plastic' orange cheap cheese inside. However, the positive were that the toilets were very clean and nice, our drinks were served in great time, the other servers were very friendly and said goodbye to us and the site was very clean inside. The salad bar was also fresh, well stocked and great.

Brilliant staff and food great quality

Food was great. Waitress was nice enough and polite athough clearly busy across other sections. Team leader /manager on this evening had a terrible and rude attitude .... on 2 separate occasions during our visit today. I was very shocked and disappointed to say the least. It will definitely make us think twice about going back to a restaurant , we as a family frequent regularly 😔

It’s a Harvester, so you sort of know what to expect going in, my kids like it and it’s a pretty good family friendly entry level restaurant to go to (especially if you have kids with SEN!) - also the salad bar is a novelty that gets my kids eating the slightly heather foods voluntarily 🤷‍♂️😂

Have been to The Compass on and off over the years. Still as enjoyable. Shocked at increase in prices but im from the old school of watching the pennies! Large and spacious building - lovely staff tasty meals.

The ribs were dried up and the half of chicken was the same. They were not freshly cooked no juice in the chicken. and the corn bread with honey was black and tasteless . If i was sitting in the restaurant the two meals would have been sent back.

Attended mid week. Nice atmosphere, not too busy. Ordered chicken skewers x 2. One with chips, one with bed of rice. Larraine was our waitress. She provided an excellent service. Food was good and presented well. Enjoyable evening

Waited hour for dinner after starters, wasn't that busy. No communication from staff. My granddaughter wasn't even offered the dessert that comes with the meal. Our food wasn't great I ordered the simply chicken the jacket wasn't cooked and the chicken was hard, they forgot to give me the sour cream I'd asked for but it wasn't on bill so she obviously didn't hear me ask for it. I was going to say something but didn't see a waitress until she came to clear the plates. Won't go back as had too many bad experiences at this one will def go to the gidea park one next time.

Food was nice but service was terrible, was busy but not once did someone come and ask for our order or did we want a drink. We had to get someone’s attention and call them over to take or order. Every slow and felt like we had been forgotten about

Had a meal here Sunday it was a celebration for a birthday let me say the food was exceptional long in coming and once it did turn up it was cooked awful and really shouldn’t have left the kitchen. After bring this to the attention of the manager who turned out to be the assistant manager she went down the line of I’ll get something else cooked for you but when I asked how long it would be she couldn’t tell me and after waiting a hour for the first one I didn’t want to to take this chance as my guests with me was a decent way Into there meals already . The assistant manager was soulless and had no managerial skills to try to resolve this so all parties were happy My advice if you thinking of going to this place think about it as I got much better food and service when I left and went to the chip shop Finally I got a response by email after I highlighted the problems that I faced only to to be told that thanks for the feedback and kind of it is what it is not even a mention of totally ruining my night

Myself and my partner have gone to the Compassess many many many times before, and so recognise the staff and especially the hostess, who greets you at the front and takes you to your table. She isn't a very smiley person, which defeats the idea of the job role but it hasnt affected us before. However last night was shocking. Its the first time we've been since the place has had a revamp, and when we arrived we were early for our booking so she greeted us at her table by the enterance and I said we're early, gave my name and said we're happy to have a drink at the bar if the table isn't ready. My partner complimented the revamp because it does genuinely look very nice in there now, nice and bright and lovely decor. I also said how nice the place looked and the hostess completely interrupted us mid compliment, and said 'excuse me'. I was SHOCKED. We both looked at her and said, 'what?'. She said the table is ready now and to follow her. Completely ignored any compliments we gave, ZERO, customer service and ZERO humane manners. I was so shocked by the time we sat down we were her disbelieve about how we were just spoken too. My partner was FUMING and had to sit outside for a minute to take a breather. Regardless of what day it was, but this happened to be our anniversary date night. I was sat at the table stewing over it, and had to get it off my chest, so I called over a waitress I recognise, older lady, always been very lovely. She listened to me and acknowledged, remained impartial but was completely understanding. She said the manager on shift was in training so the manager wasn't prepared enough to deal with the situation. We had to leave it whilst we were there but it completely knocked the mood of the evening sideways. I've NEVER been spoken too in such a way from someone who is meant to give the BEST first impression for their customers coming into the restaurant. She needs a hard speaking too, and regardless of how long she has worked there, she needs to get back into training to learn how to carry out customer service, because her actions last night completely defeats the idea of a hostess. I want to give a nice shout out too the lady who listened to me, and the lady who waits at the food to serve, she was in normal clothes no uniform, short hair. She was lovely

Excellent service and great venue some of the seating is extremely uncomfortable. Nicely refurbished better entrance allowing more people to queue in comfort.

We just went for a meal in Harvester GIDEA PARK ROMFORD - it was repulsive! Salad bar hardly anything on there and what was left looked like it has been there all day ! Floor was littered with dirty food on the carpet table felt sticky and food was vile and we only had a small piece of chicken with a salad!! - the Waitress who served us was bulshy and even looked dirty herself ! I just hope we haven’t caught anything ! My daughter complained there was a bad smell of rotting meat coming from the kitchen it was disgusting and made us feel sick. We waited ages for the bill and had to go and look for a waitress to get it as we wanted to pay the bill and leave asap !! Disgusting dirty place to eat - I had a similar experience at the Abbs Cross harvester months ago and thought the gidea park one would be cleaner but it was worse !!! never never again will I eat in any harvester places the food is awlful

Usual menu and good service. Easy to park and since the refurbishment very nice inside. Has an outdoor eating area as well.

I had a Groupon deal, staff was friendly and attentive. The portions were big and filling, definitely going back again. My son (10) especially can't believe how much food he had.and is raving about it.

Lovely evening for my twins birthday and husbands promotion dinner. Server was lovely but a little slow. Food was slow at coming out but was nice. Atmosphere was nice.

No pineapple on salad bar 🍍☹️ Service good. Food OK (scampi a bit undercooked but edible). No air-con so stiflingly hot! They've just had a total refurb.... WHY ON EARTH not put in air-con? Crazy!! We would have stayed longer after our meal at the table for drinks and chat but restaurant was just too hot so we left. This is not conducive for increased business use is it! The poor waiting staff. I wouldn't want to work there in that heat. Wow!🥵

Newly refurbished and with welcoming staff. Ive recently had to go dairy free and the staff were clesr in what I could and couldn't have, checking with the kitchen on ordering and confirming what salad bar items I could have. We also were seated with room for our baby's pram and toddlers high chair. Very good experience would recommend and keen to visit again

Had a early lunch today, the compasses has been newly refurbished and looks amazing. Polite manager upon arrival, I told her my allergies and the waitress pointed out which dishes I could order. The dining area outside is beautiful. Good atmosphere with polite waitresses and manager.

New refurb looks lovely. Seated in an area with space for buggy and highchair with room for others to go around. Had to order allergy meal, server was attentive and helpful with this and also confirmed salad bar items. All around very good service

Sadly, the main course was disappointing; tasted great, but portions seem to have shrunk - I had an original combo and have never seen such a small bit of chicken! Additionally, my dining companion ordered large chips and the portion was the same size as my standard portion! We complained to a member of staff who got us another portion. The refurbishment is lovely. The restaurant looks fresh and clean. The food was great and service from Larraine was excellent. She is always helpful and makes us feel welcome .

I would not recommend this place at all. We were sat in a little corner table where we were left with menus and noone to assist, we had to ask two times for someone to take our order. When the waitress came you could really tell she has been running back and forth, however there were 3 managers just chit chatting instead of checking on the customers. Once we placed the order the starters arrived and was all good, they cleared the table, but then our mains didn't arrive 10 mins, 20 mins and no mains. This was very disappointing as we only wanted to have some relaxing meal in a restaurant... Then they told us that because they had big groups they just pushed our order to be prepared last. No consideration whatsoever....Then one lady came asking are you happy to see me? Bringing the mains, this seems more like moaking the fact that they left us waiting. When I told her I was no happy as they took so long she asked me that where I am from??? Was this a joke? Was she trying to imply anything about my ethnicity??? How is this relatable to the fact they took forever bringing out the food... And there was not even an apology just she said oh next time I will make sure this does not happen... There is no next time. Is a bit nerving that this promess was given instead of making sure the evening goes smoothly now. I asked for the bill straight away and we left. Super sad as this restaurant was one of my go to as is close to the house and the food is okay, but I wouldn't go anymore.

1st time visiting after the recent refit. Great service, nice food and a lovely atmosphere

Unfortunately, my grandfather contracted food poisoning from our lunch today this establishment. I've recently learned that he hasn't been the first person to experience food poisoning at this restaurant and that it is a regular occurance from patrons. I would be grateful if the management could investigate the hygiene standards of he kitchen at the earliest opportunity. Apologies, however, I had a moral obligation to raise my concern.

Initially we were greeted by the rudest reception ever she really should not be in this profession as she lacks manners and politeness. The manager and the other staff were very polite an said she would deal with the rude team member later maybe a career change would be advisable to her. The salad bar was nice the food however was poor and it’s a shame that after an extensive refurbishment the quality is still poor maybe it should have been converted to a Miller and Carter or Tony Carvery as this brand is just not cutting it anymore

Service fantastic lovely lady served us and smiled the whole time. Had to ask for rolls & Butter as they hadn't been refilled, the pepsi max machine wasn't working but other than that nice meal & atmosphere.

Had a great lunch experience at the harvester compasses for my niece’s 12th birthday. Karen was a great waitress, very polite and accommodating.

Prices were reasonable, and the salad bar is fantastic. However, the service was terribly slow! The kids meals came out a good 5 minutes before the adults, so we was not all eating at the same time, and so much food was sitting under the hot plates for up to 5 minutes, waiting for 1 item to be finished. The chefs need to sort out their system so that the food is all cooked and finished at once, with each table being served their food together. Waiting staff were difficult to call to the table, but once they were over, they were friendly, polite, professional, and happy to help. Had to ask for the bill twice, because the first person we asked clearly forgot and/or didn't pass on the request to our server. The food is as expected - you know what you are getting, and the value for money is great. Salad bar was frequently replenished and the food there was fresh. Not a terrible experience, but could be better.

Food was lovely, despite me filling myself up at the unlimited salad bar prior to our mains. Laraine was our waitress and she was very friendly and helpful, and she got involved in our jokes and banter🤣

The place looks lovely after the refurbishment. Nice atmosphere. Salad bar was clean and full and fresh. I had the steak medium cooked and it was perfect. Food was good. Service was good. Our waitress Laraine was very friendly and chatty also made our 5yr old son laugh.

We enjoyed our meal, our server Sam was really lovely and attentive and helped make our visit enjoyable.

We popped in to our local Harvester, The Compasses, on the off-chance that we could get a table at no notice whatsoever. Karen served us, she was helpful with our menu choices, friendly and cheerful. The place looks nice and fresh after the refurb - good staff, good surroundings and good food at a reasonable price.
