The Compasses Harvester in Havering

First occasion I'd been to The Compasses - Harvester and certainly won't be the last! Spotlessly clean, nice venue, food was just excellent, staff all very friendly too , was a great night with a family member who lives local, I look forward too going there again, Thanks

From the moment we arrived, they was warm, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. they anticipated our needs before we even had to ask, offered great recommendations, and made sure everything was perfect throughout our meal. there professionalism, friendly demeanor, and attention to detail truly elevated our dining experience. It’s rare to find such exceptional service, and Therese and Will made our visit unforgettable. I will definitely be returning, and I hope to be served by her again! Thank you for making our meal so enjoyable.

It was a lovely afternoon with good food and good service

New decor was nice, choice on menu was pretty good. Staff.... not one person looked like they wanted to be there. Our server was not existent throughout the meal, when he did show up he couldn't have made it clearer that he wasn't interested in providing a service. I tipped him £10 as a standard procedure but in reality he deserved none of that. I also saw a server rolling her eyes at two women, who couldn't move out of her way quick enough While she was walking behind them. One of these women must have been in her 80's.... the disregard for those paying her wages. There is a serious staff issue at the compass, Hornchurch.

Excellent service, the Manager Lisa explained in detail what to avoid with my nut allergy. Atmosphere was fun and relaxed. My food including dessert was delicious. Will definitely be recommending.

We always have a lovely experience here. Annie who serves us makes sure we have everything we need. Theresa always goes above and beyond to serve our food time including advice on the ingredients. We go to The Compasses once a fortnight, always ask for Larraines section when we book. She is always so lovely, welcoming and friendly and so professional. The food never disappoints.

The server william was very efficient with taking our order. And our Manager Theresa made sure my birthday dinner was special i would definitely come again.

Went today and had a meal. Atmosphere was good. William served us and was very helpful and made us feel at ease. Teresa the manager came and spoke to us and seemed very nice. Will be going back again soon.

We’ve been going to this Harvester since it opened years ago. Tonight we were greeted by Theresa who is very welcoming and a great person to meet as you walk through the front door. It was quite busy but always has a nice relaxed atmosphere and they’ll always find you a table swiftly. We were served by Annie again who is lovely. She’s very attentive and good at her job. As it was busy she was here, there and everywhere but had everything under control. The food arrived quickly and was really nice (I’ve never had a bad meal there). Even though my wife was a little full after the main course she can’t resist the choux bun with ice cream for dessert. We had a really nice time there and the food is such good value. Thank you.

Staff member was not very customer friendly... sometimes, I thought we were getting in her way

Staff were friendly and helpful (particularly Theresa and Katie). Food overall was nice, however, the steak was slightly tough. Would definitely come back again, especially with the new refurbishments.

We have just held our third family birthday meal. We had 6 adults, 2 children and a 3 month old. The restaurant had provided a large long table which offered us plenty of room. The server was very good, keen and interested in our enjoyment. Everyone found something of interest on the menu, I myself can recommend the ribs. As the birthday boy, I had been sent a Harvester free meal voucher, and on black friday had purchased discounted gift cards, so our whole meal including drinks was just over £110. I can definitely recommend 👍

This spot is a great place for a nice dinner, I had their vegan burger and it was so nice I am very happy with my experience with the food and the people, usually i’m leaving a restaurant very unhappy because the food was bad or the service was bad but here everything is so amazing, I loved how friendly all the workers are and how understanding they are, all of the workers had such a good vibe making my evening very happy, I would definitely eat here again, and I am recommending this place to everyone!

Food and service in the Hornchurch Harvester was amazing, by far the best Harvester I have been to.

Food was average at best, service was slow and there was no atmosphere what spoilt the whole experience was that the restaurant was freezing cold so not a place where you can enjoy a meal and spending time with friends It seems to be a trend as I had the same issue at the Romford restaurant Mitchell & Butler should look into why their restaurants have no heating on

It's an ok restaurant. Menu choices ok, pretty standard items as well as Harvester favs. Service is fair, nothing to write home about. Recently renovated, which is nice, shame some walls and furniture are marked up already! Personally, think this isn't the budget friendly restaurant chain that it used to be however, EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE has gone up so it's no surprise really. I have always found the food here, hot and tasty, salad cart stocked up regularly. Overall a fair place to eat

Awful experience - It was freezing cold in the restaurant - it’s -1 degrees outside and felt the same inside. We all had to eat in winter coats and scarves and so were others in the restaurant. The food was awful - chips were tough, tasteless and gross, the chicken was more like the size of a quail, the cucumber in the salad cart was not fresh and some food had dropped into other parts, and we weren’t allowed large bowls for salads as the main - it was like eating out a child’s bowl. The only saviour was the service was good and our waiter Will was lovely. Definitely do not recommend, nor visit again.

Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, and the food was really nice. The restaurant was very clean.

Our host Theresa was a breath of fresh air. A lovely warm welcome. Our waitress Amy was brilliant, lovely, bubbly lady. These 2 together are dynamite. I didn't get the chefs name but my steak was cooked to perfection. Thank you for a lovely visit. Will be back soon. Keep up the good work

Absolutely amazing I went today as a birthday meal and it was incredible the service was amazing in its own so nice and welcoming and polite what a lovely place I may be only a teenager but I know manners and places that are amazing Besides the atmosphere and service the food was exquisite lovely I had the triple combo and oh my goodness so lovely never had food so well cooked and amazing in my 14 years of living it felt like I was in a Michelin star restaurant By the way my waiter was Chris and was very nice the best service person I have had at that restaurant Harvester thanks for the amazing meal keep it up -Dylan

I was met by an amazing young lady who directed us to our table. Her name is Theresa. She see my mother had a walking see stick so placed us at table next to the salad cart so my mother didn't have to walk far. We was met by another gentleman called Will what an amazing fella. They could not be more helpful. Most definitely coming back food was on point also. Customer service smashed and sealed it. See you soon guys . Thank you

Just been to the Harvester at Hornchurch and was served by Sarah who was brilliant. She was friendly, efficient and most importantly got our orders spot on. The only thing that lost them a star was the price; this is no longer a mid priced meal out. For two of us, two courses and two soft drinks it would have been £50 if I hadn’t had a coupon. A suggestion would be reduce the cost if you don’t want the salad bar (this isn’t free but included in the price).

Just had breakfast for 10 people! Christmas eve And it was the worst food exper.iance we v ever had cold food horrendous cheap luke warm coffee! Unfriendly unsmiling staff ! And the so called chef's picking food up with bare hands!!awful place go and spend your money in nessies or marleys or la moulin in hornchurch ! All good

Refused a plate!! I ordered a salad as a main meal £6ish I was Refused a plate given a finger bowl. I cancelled my salad believing I should have a plate. I had to order meat to receive a plate I did not want the meat but had to do so to receive a plate! It was on the serving hatch for quite a while. I asked Theresa for my plate of meat she refused and then after realising it was there gave me my plate.. with meat. I had a plate for my meal hoorah! The reply to my complaint insisted that the compass harvester is happy I made trips to the salad bar with my tiny bowl. I did put the contents on to a plate. For a meal at Christmas with my family I found your refusal for a plate for a main meal ridiculous, rude and pedantic! Shame on you for a very grinch like experience. Hang on to your plates I won’t be coming back! Unhappy customer.

Usual excellent service from Laraine. Food was tasty and mostly well cooked (roasties a little under). Great value for money.

We visited this evening and had a lovely meal. Our server was fantastic, they took our food order and another tables large drinks order by memory and got everything exactly right. The chef attending to the salad bar area was out every few minutes replenishing any thing running low and cleaning up any mess. The area was spotless. The food was very well presented with good portion sizes. I had the belly pork which was delicious. We will definitely be returning.

We’ve been here a few times as a family and I can honestly say this was the best experience we’ve had. The decor is really lovely and fresh. The service, by both Katie and Theresa was efficient, friendly, knowledgeable and funny! They really took care of us, even without us having to ask. The food too was really good. I used to find it bland but they’ve really upped their game. Great time had by all. Such a good experience. Thank you!

Well we were greated by Teresa a very polite loving person were served by Chris very polite and helpful and Amy wasn't our server but made sure we were comfortable and made us feel very comfortable with her beautiful smile they are all major assets to the harvester team thankyou for making our dining experience happy and relaxing defo worth the visit not just for food but they make you feel at home I will be back

Went on a Saturday for lunch (9 November). The salad bar had a good selection & was fully stocked with fresh seasonal salad including pineapple chunks. The chef was constantly checking the salad bar & restocking as and when. Very good. We ordered chicken skewer with red peppers & sweet white onion on it. The meal comes with crispy chips, flatbread & rainbow slaw. The chicken was perfectly cooked & a large serving. We both enjoyed our meal which was served by a polite and friendly server. We would recommend the food & it was a very nice birthday lunch. This restaurant has recently had a makeover & was clean and comfortable. Yes we will return. Thank you

Make sure if you arrive by car and park you register you car registration other wise you will get ticket. Basic Harvester nothing special but not as good value as it use to be.

Lovely staff member bright and intelligent made the meal fun

The service was lacking; we were sort of greeted on entry but then had to wait for the staff to agree who was doing what shift between them, before we were seated. The table we were seated at had a cold draft from the front door, so we asked to move. Our main server didn't smile and didn't look happy to be there at all, and was not enthusiastic. When our food was ready it sat at the kitchen counter for at least 5 minutes before a server picked it up, while some other servers walked past it. The food was fine but the turkey burger was ruined by using 'plastic' orange cheap cheese inside. However, the positive were that the toilets were very clean and nice, our drinks were served in great time, the other servers were very friendly and said goodbye to us and the site was very clean inside. The salad bar was also fresh, well stocked and great.

We had a wonderful dinner here today. Lariane, our server, was incredibly kind and went out of her way to make our dining experience enjoyable. Her warmth really added to the evening.

Food was great. Waitress was nice enough and polite athough clearly busy across other sections. Team leader /manager on this evening had a terrible and rude attitude .... on 2 separate occasions during our visit today. I was very shocked and disappointed to say the least. It will definitely make us think twice about going back to a restaurant , we as a family frequent regularly 😔

Brilliant staff and food great quality

It’s a Harvester, so you sort of know what to expect going in, my kids like it and it’s a pretty good family friendly entry level restaurant to go to (especially if you have kids with SEN!) - also the salad bar is a novelty that gets my kids eating the slightly heather foods voluntarily 🤷‍♂️😂

Have been to The Compass on and off over the years. Still as enjoyable. Shocked at increase in prices but im from the old school of watching the pennies! Large and spacious building - lovely staff tasty meals.

Lovely food polite staff very professional

The ribs were dried up and the half of chicken was the same. They were not freshly cooked no juice in the chicken. and the corn bread with honey was black and tasteless . If i was sitting in the restaurant the two meals would have been sent back.

Food was nice but service was terrible, was busy but not once did someone come and ask for our order or did we want a drink. We had to get someone’s attention and call them over to take or order. Every slow and felt like we had been forgotten about

Waited hour for dinner after starters, wasn't that busy. No communication from staff. My granddaughter wasn't even offered the dessert that comes with the meal. Our food wasn't great I ordered the simply chicken the jacket wasn't cooked and the chicken was hard, they forgot to give me the sour cream I'd asked for but it wasn't on bill so she obviously didn't hear me ask for it. I was going to say something but didn't see a waitress until she came to clear the plates. Won't go back as had too many bad experiences at this one will def go to the gidea park one next time.

Had a meal here Sunday it was a celebration for a birthday let me say the food was exceptional long in coming and once it did turn up it was cooked awful and really shouldn’t have left the kitchen. After bring this to the attention of the manager who turned out to be the assistant manager she went down the line of I’ll get something else cooked for you but when I asked how long it would be she couldn’t tell me and after waiting a hour for the first one I didn’t want to to take this chance as my guests with me was a decent way Into there meals already . The assistant manager was soulless and had no managerial skills to try to resolve this so all parties were happy My advice if you thinking of going to this place think about it as I got much better food and service when I left and went to the chip shop Finally I got a response by email after I highlighted the problems that I faced only to to be told that thanks for the feedback and kind of it is what it is not even a mention of totally ruining my night

Myself and my partner have gone to the Compassess many many many times before, and so recognise the staff and especially the hostess, who greets you at the front and takes you to your table. She isn't a very smiley person, which defeats the idea of the job role but it hasnt affected us before. However last night was shocking. Its the first time we've been since the place has had a revamp, and when we arrived we were early for our booking so she greeted us at her table by the enterance and I said we're early, gave my name and said we're happy to have a drink at the bar if the table isn't ready. My partner complimented the revamp because it does genuinely look very nice in there now, nice and bright and lovely decor. I also said how nice the place looked and the hostess completely interrupted us mid compliment, and said 'excuse me'. I was SHOCKED. We both looked at her and said, 'what?'. She said the table is ready now and to follow her. Completely ignored any compliments we gave, ZERO, customer service and ZERO humane manners. I was so shocked by the time we sat down we were her disbelieve about how we were just spoken too. My partner was FUMING and had to sit outside for a minute to take a breather. Regardless of what day it was, but this happened to be our anniversary date night. I was sat at the table stewing over it, and had to get it off my chest, so I called over a waitress I recognise, older lady, always been very lovely. She listened to me and acknowledged, remained impartial but was completely understanding. She said the manager on shift was in training so the manager wasn't prepared enough to deal with the situation. We had to leave it whilst we were there but it completely knocked the mood of the evening sideways. I've NEVER been spoken too in such a way from someone who is meant to give the BEST first impression for their customers coming into the restaurant. She needs a hard speaking too, and regardless of how long she has worked there, she needs to get back into training to learn how to carry out customer service, because her actions last night completely defeats the idea of a hostess. I want to give a nice shout out too the lady who listened to me, and the lady who waits at the food to serve, she was in normal clothes no uniform, short hair. She was lovely

It was a lovely evening all round

We just went for a meal in Harvester GIDEA PARK ROMFORD - it was repulsive! Salad bar hardly anything on there and what was left looked like it has been there all day ! Floor was littered with dirty food on the carpet table felt sticky and food was vile and we only had a small piece of chicken with a salad!! - the Waitress who served us was bulshy and even looked dirty herself ! I just hope we haven’t caught anything ! My daughter complained there was a bad smell of rotting meat coming from the kitchen it was disgusting and made us feel sick. We waited ages for the bill and had to go and look for a waitress to get it as we wanted to pay the bill and leave asap !! Disgusting dirty place to eat - I had a similar experience at the Abbs Cross harvester months ago and thought the gidea park one would be cleaner but it was worse !!! never never again will I eat in any harvester places the food is awlful

Excellent service and great venue some of the seating is extremely uncomfortable. Nicely refurbished better entrance allowing more people to queue in comfort.

I had a Groupon deal, staff was friendly and attentive. The portions were big and filling, definitely going back again. My son (10) especially can't believe how much food he had.and is raving about it.

Lovely evening for my twins birthday and husbands promotion dinner. Server was lovely but a little slow. Food was slow at coming out but was nice. Atmosphere was nice.

No pineapple on salad bar 🍍☹️ Service good. Food OK (scampi a bit undercooked but edible). No air-con so stiflingly hot! They've just had a total refurb.... WHY ON EARTH not put in air-con? Crazy!! We would have stayed longer after our meal at the table for drinks and chat but restaurant was just too hot so we left. This is not conducive for increased business use is it! The poor waiting staff. I wouldn't want to work there in that heat. Wow!🥵
