For a fish and chip shop, you would think they would know how to cook fish. My takeaway contained uncooked batter on haddock. In addition, the chips were a soggy mess having not be drained properly. A brioche bun chip butty??? Curry sauce was good, but guessing that was bought in. Maybe a bad night, but def not going back.

I Ordered over the phone was told to ring back in 5 minutes, took 15 MINUTES to get back through for my order, Turned up at the Old Stabels and I was told my one order was no longer available and had to change EVEN THOUGH when I ordered an hour before my pick up time. Received my food and the chips were very hard and undercooked. This cost £18 and is definitely not worth the money and was put straight into the bin! Not happy.

Staying nearby, went with recommendations to visit this little tucked away chippy, it didn’t fail, friendly and polite staff, the fish was beautiful and chips were lovely, all of it fresh and not greasy at all. Definitely needs to be put on the map for places to eat.

Great traditional chippie menu in this stables building behind a pub. Fish and chips freshly cooked, generous and really nice. Scampi was very nice and high quality fish. COVID measures were good, very friendly people who run it. Recommended.

Whilst staying at nearby self catering accommodation we looked online and found this fish shop. We were so glad we did. Social distancing was observed, food freshly prepared and tasty. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

Yummy. Great quality fish and huge portions. Really enjoyed and we’ll be back regularly. Nothing nicer than freshly cooked fish, chips and mushy peas

I was walking up the hill and past this shop when I saw a queue of people waiting to be served at what appeared to be a tiny fish and chip shop in what was once an old stone building. I couldn't resist going back early one sunny evening. The shop was spotlessly clean and fresh looking and the menu had a good selection of other meals including pies and curry. I sat at one of the scrubbed tables outside in the small but cosy eating area. The generous portion of chips was delicious and the fish succulent in a light batter. The Old Stables Fish and Chip shop is well worth a visit.

First visit to this little gem. Fresh food at its best. Fish is amazing and they do proper chips. Curry sauce is lush. Give this little gem a try. You won't be disappointed. Im going back again....

We haven't visited the restaurant for a couple of years but we were delighted that the place and food was still of an excellent standard. There is an extensive menu which should cater for all tastes

We had booked the Horseshoe Inn for our company Christmas Dinner and when we arrived we were kindly shown to our table, which looked neat, clean and tidy as one would expect from a professional catering operation. We were all in a positive frame of mind and were comfortable enough enjoying each others’ company. Sadly, I have nothing good to say about the food from the Christmas menu, an opinion that was shared by a fair number of my colleagues. MAINS: The meat dishes featured generously sized slabs of overcooked, tough meat smothered in bland packet-style gravy to disguise the crimes committed in the course of its preparation. Also the salmon was very dry and the sauce appeared to be a left-over prawn cocktail from the starter menu that was tipped over the top - a bizarre combination of flavours and unfortunate for the customer who already had the prawn cocktail as a starter! The vegetarian Wellington suffered from a pastry that was rather soggy and the filling was all in all a hard to define characterless mush. The vegetables were unimaginatively boiled in water and distinctly lacking in taste. PUDDINGS: The puddings appeared to have been bought in cheaply and were not even reaching the quality of a supermarket dessert. I restrain myself here and will only comment on the sticky toffee pudding. Cooking time was an issue yet again, a stodgy sugary mass instead of a melt-in-the-mouth experience. We did not say anything, as it did not seem to make sense and would have felt unkind to complain about a cook who was obviously not very practiced in catering for groups, let alone understood how to prepare a tasty meal in the first place. I would suggest hiring a different chef and focussing on creating a small but tasty menu! On a positive note: We enjoyed each others’ company and had a nice evening in a comfortable setting. The front of house staff were friendly!

Three of us booked for 1.30, a birthday treat. We sat at our table and the waitress took our order. When the fish and chips arrived the chips were only warm. My cheese pie was covered in gravy?? and the mashed potato had obviously been kept warm therefore had dried out. When the waitress came to clear the plates we asked her to let the chef know we were disappointed. We then sat and waited and waited nobody came and asked us if we wanted a dessert or coffee. We then decided to leave. We did let the waitress know we were disappointed we hadn't been asked about desserts or coffee and her reply was 'we should of shouted her' I won't recommend this a place to eat.
