If you visit Godshill, then this cafe is a must! They have a fabulous selection of homemade made cakes and fresh cream buns, all of a really good size and taste great. Coffees and teas are available at a reasonable price too. You can opt to sit out or in as they have loads of tables. Staff are friendly and helpful.

We were in the village and visiting this place and decided to try the cafe. The cakes and other items in the display looked good. We ordered drinks, cake and a kids lunch of cheese sandwich. The cheese sandwich was ok. I had the chocolate cake which was ok, a bit on the dry side but was a decent size. The coffee was ok. The place seemed clean and a decent amount of tables both inside and outside.

The family at AtlasAdventured highly recommends visiting here! We had been staying in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight for a little over a month before we found this gem! We had spent the day at the Donkey Sanctuary, and afterwards we took the bus to Godshill. It is a very cute and small town, filled with thatch roofed houses. We came across a cute little shop, and were completely floored when we entered. We went into the cute gift shop first. They offer a lot of cute items. Everything would have made the perfect gift for someone! We noticed an open door towards the back of the store and it opened up to this beautiful lush garden. The gentleman working explained we could go walk around. This was one of the highlights of the day! The garden is filled with gnomes, fairies, miniature houses, and glass windows depicting different fairy scenes! There is a fish pond and a little house that has old pictures of the town and explains the history. Everything is so detailed and cute! There was another gift shop out in the middle of the gardens where I bought the most delicious smelling lotion! All of the items for sale are original, decently priced and of great quality. I thought this would be a quick trip into a gift shop, and it ended up being a 2 hour adventure! Beautiful spot to enjoy the day. Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to enjoy the cafe, but that just means we’ll have to come back! I highly recommend visiting here if you are in the area. You could easily plan a whole day in the area.

Absolutely despicably run establishment with the most pompous, arrogant approach to conversation I have ever experienced! We are a school that has been coming to the island every year for over 30 years and had just been dropped off before going to Godshill church. We hadn't booked the car park admittedly, however, we had 60 children to unboard before heading to the church. We were there for approximately 15 minutes which I feel is a reasonably fast turnaround appreciating the rules of the car park considering there are 60 plus children with varied medical needs that we have to ensure are off the coach with correct equipment, lunches and medicine they may require (epipens etc). The woman (short, blonde, with a Margaret Thatcher tone) was unimpressed with the time that had taken. We, at this point, had started using the restaurant toilets in small groups of 10 after asking a lovely member of staff in which she explained she was happy for us to do so. For 15 minutes we had used the toilet with 3 groups accompanied by 3 adults, causing no problem at all to the general running of the business. Once we had started bringing over the second coach load of children (because we ushered them off earlier at speed, to the strict orders of short, blonde, woman), a gentleman (owner) and a younger guy (with a slight difficulty to articulate anything and with a constant smug grin) proclaimed we were causing issues to customers and said we were not allowed to use the toilets. We exclaimed that we have a few small few groups left and intended to spend money in the cafe after. This was responded with an abrupt no, 'I do not want your custom'. Whilst the owner, with hands on hips, with a smug grin, which can only lead me to assume all 3 despicable beings were from the same litter, along with his younger colleague, was standing chuckling whilst we were pleading to use the toilet and give custom, we were met with chuckles and told to get out. We then had to walk and toilet 30 plus children, through walking through a busy car park. We went back to reason with the gentlemen and what seemed to be his two ill-mannered offspring with a sensible adult conversation, but as you may expect, were met with the same grins and delight that our children were not allowed the basic human right to go to the toilet. Archaeic, abysmal and diabolical approach to business, customer service and general conversation.

We had planned to meet friends whilst we were on holiday and they suggested The Old Smithy in Godshill. What a great choice! What with the indoor and garden seating there was plenty of choice and it certainly didn't feel crowded even though it was a busy summer day. It provided just the right amount of atmosphere for a catch up lunch. The sandwich choice that we opted for was good value (coming with side salad and crisps) and really tasty and well-presented. Staff members were helpful and friendly. The parking area was extensive. It was certainly an eatery that we would look forward to visiting again.

Hi folks You all know us very well, we have been coming to the Old Smithy for over 15 years. We love it there, the staff are great, the food is delicious, and we still, after all these years, love arriving at The Smithy, to be honest we'd be lost without it. We are there four days a week, and never tire of it, feels like home in Devon! We're not complaining, how could we, but the situation with dogs being allowed inside is making our visits much less enjoyable. We realise dogs are allowed in many restaurants, but these are usually well under control, never bark, or eat their food off the cafe floor. Don't get us wrong, 90% of the dogs and owners are wonderful, until they leave you wouldn't know a dog was there, so thank you to them. It's the 10% who make it bad for the rest. We've seen dogs being given food off Smithy plates, today a dog sat on a seat and was given food to eat off the table. Another lady was dropping dog food on the floor and the dog barked loudly when it wanted more. These have happened just this week. Dogs bark a lot, and we realise the owners are at fault, not the dogs. We love dogs, we have had two of our own. We would never have dreamt of taking them into restaurants, but that was our choice. We don't know how others feel, or how to make our visits so pleasurable again, but just wanted you to know our concern.

Saturday I was waiting to be served and no one came to the counter so I gave up waiting. We had already had some drinks and some cakes and was going back for some more drinks and food. When leaving the establishment and visiting the toilet there was no toilet paper in the Gents toilets I would expect someone to check the toilets on a regular basis, obviously they are not I hope things improve, it's a great location and use to be very good.

What a disappointment! Been here lots of times for cake and a cuppa. Today's visit was with friends I'd not seen for ages and one of whom, treated us all to lunch. I ordered the pork bap from the specials board. Often seen it as an option, so assumed this would be really good. Never assume! In the bap there were three slices of dried up roast pork, that might have been cooked about a week ago and left uncovered on a plate in a fridge. Couldn't eat most of it. Under any other circumstances I would most definitely complain about food of such very poor standard, but I really didn't want to spoil the get together with my friends. The kitchen staff should be ashamed of themselves.

As this was the only tea rooms open when we visited, we really had no choice but to take it or leave it.All told, it was fine. It would have been nice if the jams and cream/clotted crean be served in bowls rather than the rather paltry portion pots.Nothing special but doing the best that they can being seated next to a big tarmac car park. The senior staff did the best they could, but perhaps employing just a few more younger staff would quicken the service, and make the place a little less "old school"

OK. So the gardens are free entry and very pretty as is all of Godshill. However for me there was a fly in the ointment. We decided to pop into the cafe for a cream tea, your asked to wait for the till which is fine despite the fact your stood in the entrance way, your not allowed to walk into the much bigger area (away from other diners) to begin selecting your food. The food was OK but the scones where dry and pretty much disintegrated as soon as you cut them, the shop is also full of overly priced tat. I personally was disappointed with the place.

This was our first eating out in quite a while. We easily got a table outside and we liked the ‘waiting to be cleaned signs’. The menu is really limited, especially if you don’t like cheese or beans (like me!) but we found more on the specials board when in the queue. I can understand why they might want to limit their menu for a while. We waited a really long time but it was sunny and it tasted even better with the vastly reduced prices on the government scheme. It was so cheap that we then all had cake. The cakes here are outstanding. The service was friendly and the loos clean. Had a lovely visit and spent about £35 for 6 people which is amazing.

This place is normally amazing! Amazing food, baguettes and cakes.I understand that COVID has affected everyone and that there is a reduced menu. Unfortunately that menu is very limited, having stood in the queue for some time items were out of stock making choosing even more difficult. No baguettes or sandwiches, apart from a few on the specials board that were not exciting. The reason for the 3 star review is that my partner had a vegan breakfast and it was covered in grease, it was so bad that she couldn’t eat it. I tried it and it was even too much for me.The staff were clearly unhappy being at work, no friendly atmosphere and everyone was grumpy. We opted for the cream tea which was two scones, jam, cream and a pot of tea. This was very nice but it only came with one tiny pot of jam and a small pot of cream which wasn’t enough for the two scones provided so this would be better if it came with more jam and cream. On a side note the toilets were nice however I think they would benefit from some new hand dryers as the current ones were worse than useless.

The food is very good, cappuccino could be better but generally good. I often buy begrudgingly a take away Chocolate eclair for my husband and always felt £2.95 was a bit steep even if eating in. Anyway imagine my shock on a recent visit when the said eclair had increased to £3.50. 55p increase. This is what I would term ‘winter prices’ and dread to think the increase when the busy season begins. I won’t be buying any more.

Ordered a soya latte which I had to return as the soya milk had a sour taste to it. I was offered a replacement to be made with milk from the same carton which I declined as I explained the soya milk is sour because it is starting to go off I managed to get a refund in the end.

We were dropped off by coach and stayed over an hour. The shop had some very expensive goods for sale, but because it was raining we were a captive audience. We decided to have some tea and scones in the restaurant.A pot of tea for one was £2.25,and in the same pot with a little extra water and another tea bag the price soared to £4.50.That’s £2.25 for one teabag.Tea at the Savoy in London is cheaper. And people wonder why businesses are closing down in Rip off Britain!

The food at The Old Smithy is average, we ordered three breakfasts, two normal and one vegetarian, waited over 40 minutes for them to arrive. As two of us didn't like mushrooms we asked if they could be swapped out for something, this is something they've done before but the cook today refused, they happily removed the mushrooms but would not swap them for anything so we paid. The staff behind the counter were very nice but the kitchen staff should try harder to appease customers.

The restaurant is ok. If you are looking for a high tea/ afternoon tea you cannot get that here. There is a cream tea available with scones the size of baseballs. Very accessible bathrooms for everyone. Dogs are welcome to be in the restaurant or the patio.

Lots of little shops selling a range of gifts. Pretty gardens, wheelchair friendly. Guaranteed to find that present to take home, even found a tin of fudge with "Thankyou for looking after my Cat".

Godshill is a location very geared up for the tourist industry. That is not to say it is bad, because actually is isn't but this cafe and shop is just very typical of what you find at similar locations. Prices reflect the location, but food in cafe is quite nice.

Stopped off in Godshill for some lunch. Found The Old Smithy. I chose the Godshill Ploughmans and it was a good choice. The Pork Pie and beetroot was nice twist. Very reasonable for £8:95, I would say it was enough to share between 2.

Massive shop selling loads of bits and bobs I never knew I needed. Amazing amount of stock and loads of present ideas. Lovely cafe as well and as a bonus a really sweet and beautifully tended fairy garden. I loved it all.

First class shop, with quality products. I could pick out gifts for every member of my family and friends for xmas and birthdays within that one shop. Very hard to visit without buying something. So tempted by the artwork and delightful homewares and decorative items. To top that, the staff are friendly, welcoming and informative.

We recently stumbled on the Old Smithy on a trip to Godshill. What a find, and a lovely place. The good luck horseshoe and the stocks the lovely little tea rooms and shops selling allsorts of gifts. But the gardens with the miniature village and gnomes etc are just lovely. Well maintained. There is the story of the fairies behind the glass windows. Such a wonderful place to walk around, and can be easily missed.

We weren't overly impressed by this place when we came for afternoon tea - there didn't seem to be a large selection of things on offer, and the queuing system was a mess. At least the people serving mostly did a good job of seeing who was next in the queue. I wouldn't go back though.

Called today what must have been the busiest day ever. Had to queue for ages but the coffee tea cakes and flapjack perfect. My reason for five stars were for the young lady behind the counter working alone and so hard (others working behind the scenes preparing and serving orders ) but she smiled and was so courteous she deserved a medal. Only downside at 2.30 running out of items such as scones bacon sandwiches etc but maybe they did not expect the number of customers . Well done

Came in to see a friend and left with a warm contented feeling, the place is warm and cozy and very friendly, but spacious enough to not be overbearing. The food is excellent and it has to be the best burger on the island hands down, it’s huge, full of flavour and seriously tasty, highly recommend the village inn

One of the best pub Sunday lunches we've had in several years. The meat was succulent - and if you can't choose beef or port you can have half and half. The potatoes were crunchily roasted with soft interior. The Yorkshire puddings seemed a step above most pub versions being neither greasy nor, like so many places, perfect roundels straight from a freezer. There wasn't much green veg but the kale - normally not something I like - was salty and well prepared. Great with the beautifully prepared red cabbage. Big shared portion of cauliflower cheese included too, and - on request - extra gravy and really tangy horseradish. Frankly not much to criticise here and the desserts were brilliant too. We had heard someone say that the change of ownership a week or so back had caused a drop in standards but it's hard to believe that it was ever much better than this. Highly recommended.
