Lovely cream tea. You can choose to havd one or two scones. Scones are traditionally sized, home made - not the huge ones which appear sometimes. Modest serving of cream for two scones. My husband only wanted a little which was just as well. Lovely people, nice setting. Other people were trying other cakes - rhubarb and ginger, ginger, etc and loudly saying how delicious they were. Expect to return to sample other cakes!

This is a proper tea room, not a cafe or a coffee shop. Great cakes and scones and lovely old fashioned tea cups & saucers. They also do espresso and cappuccino for those that really want it, but stick to the tea (and scones).

A small but very welcoming establishment, with a very congenial host. We were left alone to peruse the menu, and when ready, just had to call. Lunch was ploughman's with home cooked ham, and very fresh salad and dressing, accompanied with a very tasty cheese. Dessert was varied, from Dorset Apple Cake (homemade of course) to fresh scones (homemade again). All in all very worth while seeking this place out.

On a rather wet day, we stopped in Abbotsbury looking for a cosy lunch spot. The dining room was quiet, but we were warmly welcomed on arrival and soon had delicious bowls of homemade spicy carrot and coriander soup to warm us up. The menu had several light lunch and afternoon tea options and there were lots of tasty looking cakes and scones on covered stands, but the soup and bread were quite filling so we didn’t try them. A lovely lunch. The only thing to flag is that the loos are public ones next door, entailing a walk outside in the rain.

Visited Abbotsbury for the day and wanted some tea and a snack. Wandered in here and was greeted by a very friendly man (didn’t catch his name). Lovely, homely feel in the tearoom. Very attentive staff and took our order quickly but didn’t rush us, ordered cream tea for 2 and it came quickly, was presented in pretty china and tasted great! Some bonuses are it was great value for money and it’s dog friendly so there were some cute dogs in there to fawn over!

It was an all round fantastic experience, we had a round of beautifully presented sandwiches and a pot of tea. We followed up with sharing a piece of ginger and rhubarb cake, my wife and I were overheard discussing clotted cream or custard. When the cake was delivered to the table we were presented with a jug of custard a portion of clotted cream so we were both extremely pleased. That is service for you. You could not want for a better food or service the owners are incredibly lovely people, a man and wife team.

Never disapoints. Been visiting here for last 6/7 yrs & was as good as ever this last holiday, so good we went twice. If I lived locally I would be a regular customer. Quality, presentation & service 10/10. Nice touches with delicious coleslaw & little shortbread biscuits with your drink add those finishing touches. I have today made those little shortbread biscuits from a recipe in a book purchased from the tea shop, and I'll be making them again. Lovely of them to share the recipe of what they provide so you can recreate a little of your experience when you get home. Can't wait for my next visit. A great find! We were able to park almost outside, and with other options in the village, we were so pleased that we chose here for our lunch stop. The owners are a welcoming couple, clearly invested in their business,. with self prepared recipes and cakes etc. The soup was delicious, and having tea in a pot with bone china cups is a rare treat these days: the toasted sandwiches served with salad are exceptionally tasty. Information guides, walking routes and other books for browsing are available, and the whole atmosphere was pleasurable. We hope to be back in November!!

No set kids menus but they adapted the “proper menu” (which I prefer…better than the standard chicken nuggets or fish and chips for kids). During a 6 day holiday nearby, we came here twice, so good had we found it on our first visit. That time we had a cream tea and we're delighted to find that we could choose to have raspberry jam, a variety of teas and milks, and 'just a scone' if that was all that was wanted (it wasn't!) The scones, cream and jam were so good... We came back for lunch on our last day in the hope that there had been a fresh crab delivery. We were in luck and shared crab sandwiches and sampled their cakes. The warm Dorset apple cake went down particularly well. The garden is pretty, and shaded and the teas are served on bone china.

I found this little place on trip advisor and it has great reviews but absolutely exceeded all our expectations. The owners are a lovely couple, the cakes are so gorgeous they’ve even made and sell small recipe books of her gorgeous food! We came as a party of 5 and booked beforehand as I had a feeling they’d be quite busy and I’m glad I did as it was (but they reserved our table) we each had an afternoon tea which was absolutely gorgeous, beautiful soft bread sandwiches with generous fillings (you can swap over if you don’t like a particular filling) the cakes (all hand made and all incredibly fresh - the lemon drizzle is the best I’ve ever tasted) endless refills of tea and lovely fresh coffee, generous dishes of jam and clotted cream and all kinds of delicious delicacies, even the side salad had a lovely dressing on and the baby plum tomatoes tasted home grown. My son is training to be a chef and is a foodie so we ordered the cheeseboard too. My word, the cheeses were good! Crackers AND big wedges of fresh bread, pink lady apple slices, grapes, chutney and the most delicious pickled onions I’ve ever tasted.I definitely recommend a visit, it’s been one of the highlights of our holiday and also the best afternoon tea I’ve ever eaten. All had the fresh crab sandwich, not cheap @ £11 each but good quality and plenty of crab meat filling. Finished off with Apple Cake, note, not to be confused with Dorset Apple Cake, a perfectly serviceable but not spectacular cake & ice cream or custard @ £5. Coffees all round, reasonable blend but a little weak and could do with an extra spoonful in the cafetiere. All in all, for a Cafe lunch for 4 @ nearly £20 per head it was pricey. Pleasant & engaging staff with staffing levels which appeared sufficient but in practice was stretched. We weren’t in a hurry but it was noticeable. The tipping point for the whole experience was being directed to use the public toilets outside next door. A huge negative from our perspective and marred the visit. Covid should not be an excuse and not sure lack of toilets meets regulations given seating for 16+ even with current restrictions.

Felt transported back in time with its eclectic display of teapots all around. Very attentive and friendly service and also very Covid compliant with tables being scrupulously cleaned down before sitting so felt very assured. A wonderful array of cakes to choose from all on display. The Dorset Apple pie served either with cream or custard was delicious and tea served in the finest of mismatched bone English china (yes the tea does taste better and hotter when served out of a old country roses Royal Albert china tea cup) added to the charm of the place. There were also the little attentive touches, the complimentary shortbread served with each tea cup and the manner in which the tiny tea forks were neatly folded. All in all an enjoyable end to our visit to this picturesque village.

Four of us spent a pleasantly indulgent hour relaxing in a charming garden setting away from traffic noise and made to feel very at home by the lovely hosts and staff. -We enjoyed some tasty sandwiches (garnished with crisps, dressed salad and a delicious home-made finely cut coleslaw) before facing the welcome dilemma of an impossible to choose from cake list. -There must have been at least 8 tempting home baked cakes on the blackboard plus a couple of warm options, the latter offering a choice of ice cream, clotted cream or custard as an accompaniment.-One of us plumped for the perfectly fluffy home-made scones with jam and clotted cream whilst others succumbed to a unique but truly outstanding warm Dorset apple cake. But for me it was the warm rhubarb and ginger cake that took the crown, imho it is the best cake I have ever eaten (and believe me, I've nibbled a few in my time!)-Highly recommended.

I came here with my two children today (13/4/21) in search of some lunch. It was the second day that eateries have been allowed to open again after the 3rd UK lockdown but only for eating outside. The courtyard although small was pretty and very well maintained. There was space for only a few tables but I would imagine there is much more space inside. We ordered gammon, prawn and tuna sandwiches which came with artisan crisps, salad garnish and coleslaw. The bread was beautiful, the tiny tomatoes and cucumber in the salad were full of flavour and had just the right amount of dressing. The attention to detail was perfect from the coleslaw being served in a little dish on tea plates to the afternoon tea that I saw someone else being served. I was impressed with how fresh everything was and it certainly made me feel that the owners really cared about customer experience. As we left some fabulous cakes were being served which my children and I would have loved but as we have overdone the Easter chocolate we had to refrain on this occasion! I have to say it was the best sandwich I have ever had! We will definitely be back to sample the cakes. Thank you.

We visited the tea room on a blustery day just before half term. What a little gem. Lovely ambience and lovely customer friendly owners. We had an afternoon tea which was superb, the best we've ever had. Fresh sandwiches with varied fillings, delicious home made cakes and two home made scones with beautiful jam and cream. It was impeccably served on stands and accompanied with delicate china cups, saucers, plates and teapot etc. Just how an afternoon tea should be. We left feeling full and even had a box of cakes (that we couldn't finish) to bring home. We will definitely return and to make sure we have a table we will call ahead and reserve!!! Great place for a special treat whatever your age.

We stopped for tea and coffee in the morning and liked it so much we returned that afternoon. The owners are welcoming and friendly, the tea rooms are fresh and clean, the beverages are served in traditional crockery and there was even a complimentary biscuit for our pooch! We didn’t have a meal (just a tasty shortbread biscuit) but the reaction of fellow customers to their light meals suggested that these were of a similar homely quality to the rest of the ambience in this lovely place.

The cream tea is excellent value with an above average baked scone and delicious cream. The hostess had a dream and this is it's fruition, as is shown by the consideration extended to their customers and the setting.

A return visit which didn’t disappoint. We had quite the array over 2 visits this week. From delicious sandwiches, toasted sandwiches, cream teas, the homity pie, fantastic homemade coleslaw, shortbread biscuits, lemon drizzle cake and my absolute favourite was the rhubarb & ginger cake with a generous serving of custard. Sandra is a fabulous host, the staff are delightful and the setting is perfect. We brought the family this time, hence the spread of goodies we could all share and sample. Can’t come to Dorset without a visit to this gem of a place.

My wife and I had a nice lunch at this tearoom, braving the rain to eat outside in the pretty rear courtyard. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, and the cakes we both took away were delicious. Unfortunately the ‘homity pie’ wasn’t as good as our waitress claimed GBM and quite overpriced for the portion size. It was nice enough, but just a bit bland. My wife loved her cheese toastie, however. The tea was also served authentically with bone china. I’d happily recommend The Old Schoolhouse for service, cake and tea (and toasties). It’s a lovely little tearoom.

We stopped here after visiting swannery for lunch and had an absolutely lovely experience. It’s run by a couple and both food and service were very personal and great. They have an extensive menu to choose from. All is freshly cooked on the day. I had savoury cheese scone with homemade chutney and cheese and lentil soup. It was one of the best soups I ever tried!

Went to see a couple of bands, great venue with a good vibe, must go back in the daylight and explore the beer garden!

Two visits over the last few days. Pleasant staff, decent beer and nice atmosphere but nowhere to sit - the first time all the tables in the pub were reserved for a quiz, the second time it was lad out, theatre-style, for the rugby. We cleared off to The Volunteer.

We came with friends as we had all been gifted afternoon tea, and chose to visit this tearoom. We booked just over a week in advance. What a great choice! A great selection of beautifully fresh finger sandwiches, scones, cream and jam. and a selection of small cakes, which were so light. Absolutely scrumptious. We weren't rushed, so we could sit and enjoy our food. The folk working in the tearoom were very welcoming and we had a delightful afternoon. Thank you!

The best hot chocolate in Bridport! Served with a hot toasted tea cake sat outside on a Saturday morning. Great place to watch the busy world of Bridport go by.
