We stopped here for coffee and cake as it was pouring down with rain. The entrance was a little tricky down steps and to the side but easy enough to find. The decor is pleasant and the toilets clean. Coffee and cake were good

I was previously booked in somewhere else, but they had problems with the kitchen, they transferred my booking to The Old School House. What a fabulous meal, everything was fresh and so tasty. I was traveling on my own and made to feel welcome. I would recommend the Scallops. I have never had them before, and they just melted. such a shame its so far away from me.

Great spot for drinks/snacks/lunch. We were happy to have internet as our place didn't have it and we had an elderly parent to reach. Friendly staff and a nice place to sit and have a drink out of the rain. Wish we would've stayed at their property as we ended up here almost every day.

Lovely restaurant, the building having been the school featured in Doc Martin, Port Wen. The staff were lovely, the bar where we ate had nice relaxed atmosphere and our food was excellent. Had a sneaky look at the much larger restaurant on my way to the ladies, very impressive but we preferred the cosier bar area for just the two of us. We shared some mixed smoked nuts, also a crab starter, both of us had fish and chips which were really good, a bottle of wine, coffees and Baileys, the bill was £98 which we thought was fine especially considering the quality of the food, the really excellent service, the location and total ambience of the place. Very nice indeed.

Stayed here walking the SW coastal path. They are lovely people with great food very good standard. Just check where you are expected to park as there are spaces with a very tight access - basically the width of a car. So if you do not want to negotiate that - ask for a space elsewhere - the lovely lady shuffled so I could park elsewhere! GrEat showers!

Our first night in town, almost everything was closed in Port Isaac because they'd just had a weekend festival and needed a break. We stopped in before they were the only restaurant open. And what great luck! We both have severe food allergies and dietary restrictions, and they were able to accomodate us. This was hands down the BEST vegan curry I've ever had!!! The next day we came back for breakfast, as again, it was the only place in town open early, before our driver came to get us.

This was one of the best meals on our holiday last week - we all loved it! Kids loved their chipolata hot dogs, while we had the hake, which was cooked to perfection. Many of the dishes were gluten free - though anyone who doesn’t need to eat gluten free would have no idea that they were! No compromise on taste and flavour. This is the ideal, being able to enjoy a meal without it being an issue. What a joy - this is a wonderful place!

Highly recommended. The food is delicious, especially the hake, although we tried most of the dishes in our party. Everyone enjoyed it and we returned a few days later as well. Friendly and helpful staff and a really good atmosphere. I’m so glad we ventured inside as we’d walked past on previous visits to Port Isaac but decided to go in this time. Will definitely go next time we are in the area. Have the hake!

As I have mentioned this to the management, I feel happy to share. Although the food was ok, I would encourage you all to check your bill. A 10% tip is added to your total bill whether you have gone to the bar yourself or had waitress service. Also , no mention of the tip is made when you are asked to pay. Leaves you feeling conned.

The Old School House totally exceeded our expectations. We booked dinner for a recent Sunday night. Understandably the restaurant was quiet but we were treat warmly and felt very relaxed. Their hake dish is absolutely sublime. Cooked perfectly with a lovely combination of flavours. So good that we came back for a second go on the Tuesday (we managed a walk in and the restaurant was quite busy). We also bobbed in a couple of times for cocktails. Great value and delicious. It's a more relaxing and comfortable experience than some of the other options in the village for a drink (although we enjoyed those in their own right too). Finally, on our last morning we called in on speck for breakfast after our initial choice were no longer serving breakfast due to it being the end of season. Again, we were met warmly and the breakfast was reasonably priced and delicious. An absolute hidden gem in Port Isaac and I can only encourage you to give it at try. We ate at both of Nathan's restaurants and the fish here tasted just as beautiful.

Not our first visit and as always both service and food was wonderful. This is never going to be the most refined or fancy restaurant, but the food is of excellent quality, home made and served with care. The bar is very cosy and has a good selection of drinks and coffee. The dining room is very pretty and a lovely place to spend your evening. Good menu selection catering to most tastes. We also had breakfast here with friends and again it was lovely, and very reasonably priced too!

Firstly the hotel. It certainly wasn't cheap, but I had a good night's rest, and it is a very nice place to stay, with comfy room, very nicely repurposed from its school, and in a good location. I had to rush breakfast based on how late it opened, so definitely didn't get the best of that. In terms of the restaurant, the food was delicious. I had the crab tacos to start, which sounded unusual but were stunningly good. The Goan fish curry was equally good, and disappeared in a flash. Service was very friendly, and overall highly recommended.

We came here on a whim after failing to get into the pub down the road and we were not disappointed. My friend was hobbling a bit on a pair of crutches and a wheelchair and when I explained this, they were so accommodating to put us up in the lower bar and make sure we were comfortable. The menu was a bit limited for a veggie - there was just one option for my friend and I, as a pescatarian, was much better catered for. However, the staff were, again, really accommodating to her request and they made sure she had something she wanted to eat. The men had the pork burgers, which disappeared quite quickly, whilst I had the hake. It was DE-LICIOUS! Absolutely fab. My only gripe was they didn’t do a side of mixed veg - I had to plump for the garlic courgettes, which were tasty. Most of us couldn’t manage a pudding, but one decided on the crème brûlée. He said it was the best he’d ever had! We were delighted we made the choice to eat here. The toilets were a little tricky for the one on crutches, but with determination, she managed. Lovely atmosphere and friendly service. We may pop back again before we leave Port Isaac.

Not impressed, wrong food brought out, was told by person behind bar it was definitely what I ordered, argued with me she was right I was wrong, I asked for refund of difference in price, anyway, food was returned and I got what I ordered. Food average ,sea dog battered fish was greasy and not hot, I was dubious to eat warm fish, chips obviously frozen and not that nice. All food over priced for what it was. Two of the three staff seen were not friendly and absolutely no customer service training. Unless you are a local they are not interested in visitors, well that's impression I got. Please have a look at how you treat people, whatever happened to the customer is usually right? Will not return and not recommend. So many other places to eat near by and better priced like fish and chip shop at top of hill . Only positive is I got a refund on price difference, eventually.

Visited after what appeared to a very busy lunchtime, waited 10mins or so to be seated at a table. Approximately 45 mins later we were given a menu and told food would take sometime. A further 25 mins later the order was taken. Drinks and...

We arrived in Port Isaac and were after some lunch and a break; at that time we encountered good outdoor space, the food was good, the service charming, everything was clean. Inside was charming (orders must be placed at the bar, WCs are inside). As...

The worst meal I have ever had in a UK restaurant. I really cannot believe the positive comments from so many people so maybe it was an off day. However not sure how you could spoil a hamburger but somehow it was managed. The prepacked...

Unfortunately we didn’t get to the point to taste the food so this review is based on the interaction we had with whom I can only assume is the head waitress. Having booked a table of 12 we needed to reduce the number to 10...

Such a warm welcome from everyone and enjoyed seeing the locals at the bar laughing and enjoying themselves, a real feel of Cornish community about the place. Extensive menu so you don’t have to just stick to fish and chips, fish pie, curried cod and prawns to name but a few other choices. If you can get a window seat above the old lifeboat launch ramp do it. Enjoyed our meal here and a must visit if you are in the area.

We ordered lobster roll expecting some beautifully presented lobster curled round a tasty dressing. What turned up was a scant tablespoon of chopped overcooked lobster in a cold, cheap, tasteless white finger roll of bread that would have disgraced the bargain shelf of the cheapest supermarket. It was inedible. The side of hispi cabbage was well cooked, thankfully, or I would have left feeling very hungry. There are no loos. You have to use the dimly lit and droughty public loos in the adjacent council carpark. This is possibly the worst restaurant in St. Ives.

My husband has followed Dan Dan the Lobster Man on Facebook and we visited Porthleven purely to eat here. Sadly we were disappointed. The food was expensive and the crab sandwich was bland. We waited about 45 minutes for a bland crab sandwich and a pot of cockles. The cockles were tasty. Other people sitting near us had a sharing platter which looked good. Go and try it and make your own mind up.
