The Old Royal in Birmingham

Absolutely amazing staff, excellent customer service. They were highly accommodating. Even though they were busy they keep a smile. Good was good and a great atmosphere even with Aston villa and England playing in the rugby 🏉. What a great experience 😄

Very quiet but actually deserves to be more popular - decor and music is right but perhaps draft selection very basic. Overall it's good.

Nice place, nice staff, reasonable prices but the real ales other reviews talk about have disappeared so if that's your thing try somewhere else.

I love this visiting this place for a bite to eat or for a few drinks after work, the atmosphere is really friendly and the staff are nice and approachable.

We only popped in on our way to another place for our dinner. Google describes this as a traditional English pub. This it is not. More of a bloky place. Staff not very friendly, unless you are a regular, then you are treated like royalty, including slipping behind the bar. Wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend either sadly.

Great place, the manageress Bonnie and her staff work tirelessly to ensure your visit is an enjoyable one.

Fantastic upstairs space for a private party. Brilliant staff, fast service at the bar, and the best bacon sandwich I ever eaten! I will definitely be having another party there, I can't recommend it highly enough.

El jueves por la tarde fui al Royal a almorzar y me quedé boquiabierto. Servicio súper rápido a pesar de que estaban ocupados. La comida era excepcional y me encanta la habitación de arriba.

Service provided by Bonnie was amazing. Thoroughly recommend the Guinness and Peroni isn’t bad either. Had a Tandoori Pizza and loved it. Who would have thought it would taste so good

Cute old fashioned pub near the center of Birmingham

Anoche celebré mi retiro en la habitación de arriba de este establecimiento y no podría estar más contenta con cómo me fue. El lugar es hermoso con la retención de características originales equilibradas con una nueva decoración e impecablemente limpio. Tuve el buffet de oro a 12 libras. 50 por cabeza y fue increíble! Abundantes y sabrosos e incluso los huéspedes que no esperaba comer fueron tentados. El barman (siento haber olvidado su nombre pero con el pelo negro puntiagudo) era brillante y mantuvo la demanda fluyendo sin problemas - nada era demasiado para él. El resto del personal que lo apoyaba también estaba atento. Todo el mundo se divirtió mucho y no puedo dar las gracias por hacer mi noche tan especial. Por favor, apoye este pub como es conveniente para la ciudad, a un precio razonable y todo lo que un pub debe ser. Muchas gracias xx

We looked at the reviews of pubs in Birmingham for somewhere different and this one looked like our type of pub so we went on a weekday lunchtime. When we arrived it was quite busy but we were greeted by one of the ladies behind the bar who recommended their 2 for £10.95 menu - when the fish and chips arrived we could hardly believe how good it was and how quick it was delivered - in fact I said to one of the ladies I cant believe you can do it for this price. The pub and toilets were so clean it was refreshing to find somewhere like this and we recommended it to our neighbours who went yesterday and made the same comments as us. The staff were so nice and helpful we cannot recommend it enough, so if you are in Birmingham give it a try you certainly wont be disappointed and if you want somewhere a little quieter try upstairs where there is a lovely lounge.

We were looking for a venue for my wife to meet up with some old work colleagues and we came across this pub that according to reviews was excellent so we thought that we would try it out. The reviews were right excellent service, very clean, excellent friendly and helpful staff together with excellent food - we had the Fish and Chips from the 2 for £10.95 menu and it was very tasty, well presented and excellent value- even better that Wetherspoons. So if you want somewhere for a nice meal, good value and friendly staff - this is the place to go. We also recommended this venue to our neighbours who visited yesterday and exactly the same comments

The mixed grill was very good. Service from ordering was quite quick. The only downside is the size or measurements of their shots / drinks. Guinness was not the greatest

I love the royal, from its staff to through to the decor, Jo, Bonnie and all the other guys are just lovely wish I knew all there names but the pub wouldn’t be the same without them. Thanks for always making me welcome and that’s the reason I keep coming back. Deano

Always great for drinks pre or post dinner in Birmingham on a night out. Often seems forgotten about in comparison to old contemptibles. It’s a great pub though. Never eaten here though but menu looks okay.

Excellent pub right in the centre of Birmingham. Our table enjoyed a few pints, pizza, curry and fish and chips. Food and service were all excellent at a reasonable price. Happy to recommend.

Brilliant new staff. Total refurb and new landlady. Looks really good. Chairs comfy, prices as you would expect in Birmingham.

My mum and I went for lunch at The Royal and really enjoyed our sandwiches with fries. A great lunch offer which get you a pint as well for less than a tenner each. Tasty food and nice staff. The waiting time was a little long but obviously they had a big party up-stairs so made it understandable.

What can I say! Other than the Royal gave us Royal treatment! From the phone conversation to the Royal with Dante who was polite and inviting, to being greeted by a friendly and professional David. The hard working and lovely Bonnie! We had the best pub experience we’ve had in years! It was a busy time as it was the semi final euro cup however we were seated comfortably (my partner has a leg injury). We were Served with a smile! The food was so delicious and such good value for a prime location in a city centre. The loss of traditional pubs is a sad demise so to enjoy food and drinks here in its beautiful and immaculate refurbed interior was a pleasure. Love the Royal family memorabilia around the pub! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 We will definitely be back!! Thank you guys!! Claire & Anthony

Had heard excellent things about this spot for a while, so decided to visit for lunch today. I must say, it did not disappoint. Had a small irish breakfast, which was cooked to perfection.

There are many different ways to measure star quality. The Old Royal is a traditional pub serving an excellent pint of Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and a wide choice of other tipples. The bar food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Service is quick and friendly. Haute cuisine or Michelin Star?Definitely not, it is a top class traditional English pub. Forgot to update this note until today (21st May 2024). The planned renovation went well retaining much of the character of the Old Royal, now simply named The Royal. Menu is similar and as good. Wide range of beers as before except sadly that the hand pump and the Timothy Taylor Landlord has gone.

The 14 0z Gammon was cooked to perfection absolutely delicious really enjoyed the meal. Also the manager happily added on a grilled tomato for me when requested after I had ordered the meal. Great food, brilliant service and excellent atmosphere. This pub is very well run and a bit of a hidden gem in Birmingham city center. Hats off to the chef fazel and dave the manager who served me, much appreciated and thanks for a fantastic meal!

Cannot fault the lunch menu. The choice is great and the value is excellent. We have been a few times in the month and the staff are always very friendly.

Impossible to rate this pub highly as it does not sell proper beer. Only fizzy lager stuff.

It's a great authentic pub, BUT the brewery is closing it for a revamp, it will never be the same all the characters will go and Pat the gaffer is leaving (so sad)

Booked a table for a night out with friends. Table was reserved as promised and I was immediately welcomed by bar staff, who bought over my drink to the table whilst I waited for friends. We ate in the bar, sharing pizzas and bowls of chips. Food was lovely and the pizza toppings were plentiful, especially BBQ chicken. Fantastic service by staff, who were always happy and smiling, special mention to Anthony who looked after us all night and made us feel very welcome and added to our fantastic night out and catch up with friends. Will definitely return with lovely drinks, fab food and fantastic service. Thank you Anthony 😊.

New Year’s Eve drink, this place was brilliant nice a quiet and out of the way of the hustle and bustle of the city. Beer was average and wasn’t amazing and a little lifeless on the bubbles. Decor was brilliant and someone had spend some money.
