Top local pub Stopped here a couple of times on a dog walk with a big group of family and a couple dogs. Clearly a locals pub as in the centre of the village. Staff were friendly and welcoming, locals likewise. Not always the case when you're an 'out of towner'. Tha KS everyone!

Will not go to this pub again, on booking asked if they catered for vegetarians, was told there were vegetarian options, ordered Sunday roast with vegetarian option was served a huge plate of potatoes, boiled and roast, vast amount of carrots, cabbage and peas, nestled in amongst this was what looked and tasted like a stuffing ball, just the one. Sunday roast options were very poor, small plate one slice of meat, large 2, only do roast on a Sunday so grandson had to have sausages with his. Cheap but you get what you pay for. Best part of the meal was the wine.

We hadn't been for a while due to moving house and covid, so took a 19 mile drive to get there today and it was well worth it. Good pint of real ale followed by steak and ale pie with real chips, selection of veg and lovely gravy. We had the small portion and it was what I would call a good portion. I saw the large portions at the next table and I wouldn't have been able to eat it. Excellent value, best chips I've had in a pub and the pie was incredible. Friendly service and I hope it stays under the same management in case someone comes along and ruins it by turning it into a gastro pub. Definitely making it a regular drive out.

Had some great food here in the past and have recommended others to try it. But our last experience was very disappointing. Fish which I would describe as tail end plenty of skin, batter, greasy with very little fish. The soup was also tasteless and needed loads of condiments. Unfortunately not a pleasant experience. Perhaps a one off but not so keen on going back.

We go here every couple of weeks for either sunday lunch or midweek meal. Never a problem with the Landlady or other staff, all of whom are pleasant and helpful. Food is good, portion size is substantial, chips that didn't come out of a bag in the freezer and prices that are affordable for a retired couple like ourselves. Always a good atmosphere with locals enjoying themselves without the bad language you hear in certain establishments. We turned up tonight (Monday) and had to have the delicious steak pie. My Wife doesn't have potatoes, so they gave her plenty of veg, which was not overcooked. A couple of pints of good cask beer - what more do you want. I just hope it doesn't get taken over and turned into a gastro pub.

We drove to this restaurant as it was recommended by a pub a couple of miles away.Seemed a lovely pub so we thought we would go in ... we asked for a table & told to go through. However, there were no tables for 5 so we thought we would have a drink & discuss our options. The decision was made by the lady behind the bar... they couldn’t cater for 5 unless we really wanted to squeeze in together her manner was rude. Also when we were being served she proceeded to eat pork scratchings between pouring each drink. Placing her greasy salty fingers that she had put in her mouth on OUR GLASSES. Her attitude & actions were vile.

I would have given 5 stars, but unfortunately my meal arrived without it's potatos, which did appear about 5 minutes later. The only problem was that as my meal was the last to arrive, everybody else was finishing as I was just starting. Also as anyone who has read my reports in the past will know that I love vegetables, and to be honest the dish brought out for two people was barely enough for one. As promised we returned again for lunch today and were not disappointed in the slightest, in fact this meal may have out done yesterday’s. We arrived at 1:30pm and were greeted by the same bar lady as last night who remembered us and allowed us to pick a table of our choice. We were informed about the specials board and that everything on the entire menu is in fact available to order all day. I opted for the fishcake, chips and mushy peas after seeing a diner enjoy it last night. Once again, the portion size is terrific and extremely reasonably priced at only £6.50. My boyfriend chose to have the all day breakfast which he found to be tasty and very filling. Overall, we have truly enjoyed our visits to this excellent pub and recommend that if in the area it is a must-try!

This is a friendly pub with a reasonable selection of drinks and food. We visited and had the seniors lunch for £6.95 per person which consists of either a main course and dessert with tea/coffee or instead of tea/coffee you can start with homemade soup. I had the main course of home-cooked lasagne, chips (these were chunky hand cut chips and were delicious) and salad. My husband had fishcake with chips and mushy peas. There were about 4 other main courses to choose from. About 6 desserts were listed on a board but two were unavailable. We both ordered the jam and coconut sponge with custard which was very bland and disappointing. The sponge was tasteless and the custard was instant powder you add water to and it was watery and not properly dissolved - we should have selected the other options of ice cream or cream instead of custard. We saw a banana split being served to another table and that looked great so if we go there again, I will be sure to order this. The coffee was good and is individually made from a machine on the bar counter. Overall reasonable value for money and the chips are some of the best I have tasted.

We were visiting the area and struggled to find somewhere to eat with our pooch in tow, we called ahead and were advised we would be welcome. The bar is very traditional, and has a very local pub feel, though it would do with a little bit of a de-clutter. The home made pie was fantastic, but the scampi my husband had was average. The place hardly looked big enough to offer such a vast menu so don't expect everything to be cooked fresh (i.e. they must rely on frozen) but we got what we were looking for with was comfort food and a warm welcome.

I was just about to go when two people came through serving food. One of them was bar staff and, seeing me, I thought I may get some attention. The food did not disappoint, generous portions and delicious. Staff were so friendly and welcoming, really could not have asked for more. They are dog friendly too.

Really good pub food and excellent value for money. We ate here four days running as we were renting a cottage nearby and wanted a break from cooking ourselves.Lovely wide choice of different dishes. Excellent chips!Good sized salads with nice mix of ingredients. Dishes that came with a salad garnish had plenty of salad, not just a few leaves.Well kept Bombardier bitter.Helpful and cheerful staff create a lovely atmosphere.

As a vegetarian finding all the vegetarian dishes having fish marked as suitable for vegetarians shows the lack of understanding of what a vegetarian can and cannot eat. Vegetarian's do not eat fish. I did contact the restaurant directly but to date they have not had the decency to reply.

When looking for a place for a good Sunday roast, you want it to be homecooked and tasty, just like your Mum's. The Olde Red Lion's roast dinner superseded my expectations. Firstly, the pub is just how they used to be. First impressions count and we were met with a cheery smile from the locals drinking at the bar and were shown straight to our table by a member of staff (good job I booked, they were full). We were shown the specials board and then we ordered drinks at the bar and set up a tab for the table, no problem. We decided to delve straight into the main course and were asked if we were ready to order after five minutes, great. I ordered the beef, my husband ordered the pork. Whilst waiting we were surrounded by lovely smells of food and a very pleasant hum of voices and people generally just enjoying themselves. Our food came after only ten minutes which, I have to admit, I was a little concerned about. How wrong I was. Our meals came with a huge gravy boat full of proper meaty gravy and side servings of brocolli, carrots, cabbage and new potatoes. On the plates were our meat and the best yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes I have had in a long time. There was not one item that was not cooked to perfection. My beef was gorgeous, it melted in the mouth and my husband's pork was great too with a side of brilliant crackling.... not that I got to sample it! We both had pudding, I had the fruit crumble which was divine and my husband had the vanilla cheesecake. Throughout our meal, the owner and daughter made us feel welcome and the service was fantastic. I am not at all surprised that this pub is so popular. We will definitely be going back. The biggest surprise of all was the price, two mains, two puddings, two large wines and two pints cost £36!!! I only wish we lived closer.

I booked the Old Red Lion for my Fathers Wake.Michelle the owner Landlady was fantastic, nothing I asked of her was too much trouble. All the food was fresh hot and beautifully presented. I wasn't quite sure how many would turn up and said it would be approx 30 ....well I am sure it was near on 50 ...but that wasn't too much trouble for the lovely staff whom set out to bring out more food etc.,My family also went out for an evening meal here the night before. A table of 11 with 2 children, everybody really enjoyed their meals and desserts. the prices were excellent and again the service was 5 star. I would certainly recommend this cosy village pub for a lovely dining experience. At the end of the day enjoying a meal isn't about how posh things are presented and how tiny meals are, its about being served and being made to feel welcome and special with the meal being unquestionably the very best this village has to offer. We will return again and again. Thank you to all the staff and Michelle for making a very difficult day for me go without any problems and with sincere empathy and professionalism. Thank you

What a lovely little spot overlooking the village maypole, a good array of ales and a fine menu serving good old traditional pub food like the good days.

After a brief visit to Rufford Abbey we checked into The Old Red Lion for a late lunch. I had a bap with sausage, one friend had a cheese baguette with chips, and the other a traditional ploughman's lunch. The chips were excellent, and the other items good; together with two drinks and a glass of water the total bill of £18,30 was more than fair.

Popped in whilst visiting the local area over the weekend after a quick look up on trip. Wasn't disappointed and the food was excellent, quickly served, friendly staff, and very reasonable. I would personally recommended the Steak & Ale pie, but no starter or pudding required! Fantastic portion and very very tasty with veg & chips on the side. Keep up the great work and will definitely return if back in the area!!!

We turned up here, with companion dog, looking for a light, but satisfying, Saturday lunch, in the mid September sunshine. Sitting outside, we both had Spanish omelette and chips with salad, which were served pretty quickly by friendly staff. The omelettes were excellent. We also had soft drinks this time, so can't comment on the beers. Most customers appeared to be there to eat, which was a good sign, although if you are looking for a younger and lively atmosphere, this may not be your first choice. There was an odd moment when the bar maid offered to set up a tab but then wanted credit card details (for two omelettes and chips?) and then completely withdrew the offer when she realized we were sitting outside (with the obviously negative implication). Also, if they want top marks in the future, I think they need to think about doing something imaginative with their outside space - it's great to have views of the maypole, village green and church but you are essentially sitting in a car park, whilst none of the local roads have any restrictions. That said, the location and the quality of the food on the day for me just push it over the line into a TA rating of very good.

I was looking forward to dining here as a coeliac but the service I had wasn’t exactly accompanied with a smile. The gluten free pancakes that I ordered were delicious but unfortunately they clearly were not gluten free due to the terrible reaction I had later on that day.. very disappointing. Even though I confirmed with the waitress that the pancakes were gluten free!

We were staying for 1 night after a family get together. Checking in was very easy, with a key left outside your room, so you could check in at your leisure. Rooms were gorgeously furnished, with everything you could possibly need and very clean. Really pretty flower borders just outside our bedrooms. All of us slept well in the very comfortable beds. Breakfast was amazing and we felt well catered for as vegetarians. We’re looking for an excuse to come back and stay here, we had such a good stay!

Tucked away within an antiques emporium this little jewel. From entering the shop you’ll be greeted by a lovely gentleman. The food was exquisite made to order not mass produced. The taste out of this world. Skill, time and quality ingredients. We were blown away. Will definitely visit again! Worth seeking out!
