Lovely pub but the food is very hit and miss. We have come many times and sometimes it’s fantastic and other times it’s incredibly mediocre. The chef here changes pretty often it seems, which is such a shame. Before today, our last visit was the beginning of August and the food was incredible, the pork was cracklin’ the cauli cheese was cheesin’ - honestly, it was up there as one of the best roasts we have had! Today the roast pork was gelatinous and the veg consisted of some par-boiled potato’s, red cabbage and two carrots. The cauliflower cheese was the main offender, undercooked cauliflower in mustardy milk, not a hint of cheese in it. We left disappointed as we were really looking forward to the same standard of food we had been served 3 months prior. We come back because the staff are lovely, the drink selection is great - and sometimes the food is too!

In town from Canada we’ve been to this place three times this week! Looking for a typical London pub experience this was a perfect find. The beer, the food, the atmosphere and the staff are all top notch. The Sunday roast was especially nice when missing Thanksgiving dinner with family back home. Highly recommend!

weird pub. should have been a winner but apparently they have to keep the doors open for fire safety reasons (?). it ends up getting quite cold, which doesn’t make for a good experience. no one likes to be cold. took about a year to get a drink, maybe the bar staff are frozen, maybe they need to thaw out some quicker bar staff. or maybe the bar staff are amazing but they’re just cold and demotivated. and maybe closing the door could solve everything? what do I know though? I’m just a cold man with a keyboard

A Victorian building that retains many original features. Two bars with a beer garden and several nooks for privacy. Despite being all wooden and having little soft furnishings sounds are well absorbed. So it's easy to have a conversation. The landlord clearly takes pride in the quality of his real ale, which is not overpriced. Food is excellent and half price on Mondays. My dog was welcome too. I love that you are offered a beer mat when you order a drink; too many pubs have sticky tables through lack of beer mats. My only criticism is that there are no hat stands or anywhere else to hang a coat. I'm definitely going to this wonderful establishment again.

I brought 2 friends from Canada to The Old Red Lion in Kennington, to experience a Sunday Roast Dinner in an authentic London pub! We were cheerily greeted by Neal who recommended a good local ale and patiently answered all our questions on the menu. The food was excellent (Roast Sirloin of Beef, Yorkshire Pud & all the trimmings) and arrived so quickly. The chef also created alternative dessert options and gave me a doggy bag of roasted potatoes to take home. All the staff were friendly and efficient. The pub is traditional, with lots of original features (loved the tiny doorways between the two bars). There’s a conservatory at the rear also. All in all, fantastic food, VERY BRITISH, authentic pub with friendly staff and top notch service! YOU MUST GO!!!

We went for a Sunday Roast yesterday, and after one hour waiting for our meal, we found out how small the new portions are and hardly any vegetables. Yorkshire puddings didn't seem freshly made but from either a pack or frozen. They don't even make Bloody Mary's anymore on a Sunday (?) and when we asked for horseradish sauce, we got a half mini cup to share. Unsure if there have been some changes but this is not what it used to be. Feedback written with positive intent because if we don't share our thoughts, you won't know how the customers are feeling.

I have fond memories of this place, however, unfortunately, it feels like a pub that is on its last legs or running out of money. They accepted our 12 person booking for a meal but when we arrived we found out the kitchen only had 1 member of staff, in his second day on the job + more than half the beer taps were off + some of the menu was unavailable. The beer fridges were also mostly empty. Food was really delayed and it took ages for staff to clear our table. The interior of the pub is still nice and the few staff available were polite, but they were overrun and not proactive.

We had one of our most disappointing experiences at The Old Red Lion Sunday Roast last week. Something must of been going on, but everything about our dinner just wasn't good. Looking at prior reviews and pictures we were very excited for our reservations. There seemed to be a larger group with a reservation 30 min after ours, but we were told that we couldn't place an order for 15/30 min. I understand being busy and having a larger group, but then what is the point of a reservation. This was going to be our last Sunday roast before we left back to the US. We had a couple of great ones at The Duke's Head and The Queen's head over the last few weeks. Everything about this meal was almost uneatable. All of the sides were completely undercooked with the carrots almost raw. The cabbage and greens were cold and mushy. The chicken roast was so over cooked and tried that no quantity of gravy was going to make it good. The sirloin roast had so much fat that i couldn't even cut it with a knife. Where were the potatoes (what is said the there were potatoes ( I forgot about them until I looked at the picture before posting and they were on the plate and the famous Yorkshire pudding was not where to be found. You know its bad when you have to go to the local Weatherspoon's to get something because you are still hungry after a famous roast dinner. I truly hope that this was just a one off or the larger party caused some issues, but this became the must disappointing part of an amazing 2 week trip!

I really want to give this place a higher rating as it could be an amazing pub, but the staff seem to be resting on their laurels somewhat. Upon arrival we were told that the Fish & Chips had sold out - making an already small menu even smaller. Okay, we may not have chosen that anyway and instead opted for the burgers which, according to the menu, come with pulled brisket and baby gem lettuce, with the option of bacon for £1.50 extra. Would we like it with bacon? Yes please! We were then told they were out of brisket, but we could have the bacon instead at no extra cost. Fair enough. But when the burgers arrived the person serving said, sorry, we're out of bacon. They were also minus the baby gem! No adjustment to the price was offered for the missing items, and I couldn't be bothered to ask - but needless to say, their tips jar did not gain any value at the end of our visit. How difficult can it be to source simple food items like bacon and lettuce? A five minute trip to the local supermarket could have sorted that. The two handpumps in use indicated a couple of beers from the local Portobello Brewery - great! - but then as I approached the bar, what a surprise, the barman immediately turned one of the pump clips around adding "this one's off", so no choice, just the one ale on offer. I know pubs are struggling at the moment but if they want to attract the punters in, they have to pull out all the stops to deliver a great experience for customers. It's a shame really as this is a lovely old unspoilt pub with many original features and a piano in one of the bars. With a bit of effort this could easily be a five star venue.

I have been there many times before & will return there many more. Totally dog friendly place. Impressive food & beverage menus. Beautiful decor. Garden area available for use as well as outdoor seating areas available also.

This place is so fun when the DJ is allowed to play to the crowd. We had a female DJ who was bound to a two-beat, crap club playlist. Duh duh (rubbish that bores you to tears) You can’t dance to this, and it’s so frustrating in London that this is the norm. It’s like you have to fight for music that is elevating, fun, and of our generation—something that gets the people going! After some absolutely terrible music, she changed the tune and played bangers from the 2000s, and everyone went wild. The night became awesome. These clubs should take notice: the music nowadays is absolute rubbish, and it makes people want to leave. I don’t know why they don’t play what people want. I’ll never understand it. But in the end, it turned out to be a fun night—just took some asking.
