Be aware that kids are not allowed after 5pm. Venue is of course entitled to set their own rules, but this is unusually early for such a policy and is not advertised anywhere in the pub. Instead of politely warning us of this in good time before 5pm, security appeared with no warning at almost 6pm trying to hustle us (and our quietly reading child) out, without time to finish drinks. They really need to handle this better.

I am really disappointed to see that weekend nights are only supplied by plastic cups (I assume this is because there are too many people for the pub to provide non-plastic). They also refused my attempt to use a reusable cup, or to re-use a plastic cup. An absolute mass of unnecessary plastic waste from the hundreds of people that were present. We should really expect more responsible behaviour at this point; I am sure there is a better solution.

Great pub with an amazing atmosphere and a garden. The beer selection was alright and plus a glass of wine at a good price, so it was a winner. We tried two of their jerk chicken bun and they came with great crispy fries as well. The burgers were cooked fantastically and the beer garden full of tables was energetic with a lively crowd. We had a great time here unwinding before our beer tasting experience at the London Beer Lab around the corner. Was really great.

🚇 Brixton 🍺 £6.75 Cruzcampo The Duke of Edinburgh is located in a quiet residential area in the backstreets of Brixton. The nearest Tube is Brixton, it’s a five minute walk to get here. This pub was originally built in 1874. The pub you see today was built in 1937 by Truman’s principal architect A E Sewell. This pub is Grade II listed and features on CAMRA’s list of pubs with interiors of historic interest, this being of Outstanding National Importance. The decor here is stunning, seemingly it looks untouched since the day the pub was built. At the front is the old Public Bar which has a pool table, traditional pews and its own servery. Head through an open walkway and you arrive into a large wood panelled bar with amazing stained leaded windows. There are some fantastic original features like the ornate fireplaces and the chequered spittoon in front of the long servery. At the back of the pub is a huge sprawling beer garden, I was told this is the largest in South London. The beer selection is all keg and offers a mix of mainstream brews and local craft beers. I decided on a Cruzcampo, my pint was excellent, price point was a little punchy. The food menu is by @bandobelly who combine American, Caribbean and Asian flavours into Burgers and other comfort food options, most Burgers cost £12. I arrived just after 12pm on a warm Saturday lunchtime in August. The pub was fairly quiet as it had just opened. I decided to plot up in the front bar area and watch the Olympics, a superb soulful soundtrack played in the background. I got chatting to one of the team who was kind enough to give me a guided tour, what a nice chap. This pub shows live footy, there are plenty of screens here to watch a game. I must admit, I am a big fan of 1930’s interwar built pubs, so the @dukebrixton was right up my street. This is a handsome traditional pub with a splendid interior. The beer choice, tasty grub, friendly team and the enormous beer garden make for an impressive pub experience. This is definitely one to visit when in SW9. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 03.08.24

I've always liked coming to this pub when I'm in Brixton, but on Sunday they were ridiculously rude to me and my friends. We were treated like criminals for daring to have a quick pint 4 hours before the Euros final started, and a friend was refused entrance. (I think they may have sworn at him). I'm a barman and appreciate matchdays are stressful, but even so I've never had such surly and mean-spirited treatment. Hope they get their act together.

I booked a table to watch the England football match, but it was outside and there was no sound for the entire coverage. It was pretty awful. They did notify us about it, but there wasn't enough time to make other arrangements. I understand there are residents nearby, but the game was at 5 pm. Most people would have been watching the game in their homes anyway, and the fans chatting outside were louder than the TV would have been. I'm really annoyed by the whole ordeal. Something needs to be done for the rest of the tournament. Also you need more vegan options!

Shocking venue to watch football. They promote live football in their garden, but what they forget to mention is that there is no sound being played. They did email only 24 hours before, saying there will be no sound. And before you say, “go elsewhere,” you can’t because everywhere else is booked. You also can’t cheer due to the neighbors. Here’s a suggestion: don’t live next to a pub. Never ever going to this establishment again. You should be embarrassed to call yourself a public house

Went for a burger and a pint before a gig at Brixton Academy. Bar is fab but the Bando Belly food experience was awful. The Mitch is pitched as some of the best soul food but my experience was soulless. Waited an hour for a very average burger, when it finally arrived it was cold. Gold’n nuggets were ok but again cold. You order via an app in the garden and then collect from the food shack. There is no way to know where you are in the queue. Maybe they were understaffed when we went but I wouldn’t rely on a quick bite to eat.

Ordered their "Bodean's BBQ" which was disappointing. One item was missing (the Texas style sausage) which I was looking forward to eating the most. So I had to use up my uber eats refund. I was refunded for the whole meal bundle (not the entire order) which was nice. The food quality was bad the ribs tasted off and the sauce was not nice. The colelsaw was nice although a bit too much lemon and I was given a very small portion. In fact the entire order was very small compared to the other Bodean's branch at Balham which has apparently closed down. I used to like Bodean's and really look forward to eating the closest thing to American Southern BBQ I could get delivered to my door but now it seems like it's going downhill significantly. The chicken was tiny and not very juice all dried up a bit. The chips portion was very small. No Jacobs rib ladder as according to the Balham branch it was not economical any longer to serve them which was their main attraction and best thing they sold! Expensive for the portion and quality frankly. I hope this franchise fixes up their quality and variety and service otherwise I will try somewhere else. I will check out thier meat supplier. Maybe I can just buy from thier supplier and heat it up at home as thier website used to sell some of thier products the the texas smoked sausage. Good price also .

We ordered food at 7.30 pm on a Friday night. At 8.15pm the food had not arrived yet. I enquired and apparently Monzo doesn't always work with sending them the ticket! Why they still accept Monzo is bonkers. We re-orded. At 9.15pm we still did not have food. I asked at the bar. The 'manager' said that they went to the table but we were not there which is impossible as there were 4 of us all night. I asked if he would mind coming to the table and checking the number.. he refused and basically accused me of lying. His manor was unbelievable... it was like he wanted a confrontation. Another lady who was clearly more experienced and a nice person came to the table and realised that the number was infact 601 not 109. It was an honest mistake on both parts (the 1 was written as a line) but the real manager handled this so well, offered us a drink and did exactly what you expect. The other in-experienced manager was clearly on a massive power trip and has no prior experience of how to talk to humans. We sat down and ate our cold disgusting food.

This place is so fun when the DJ is allowed to play to the crowd. We had a female DJ who was bound to a two-beat, crap club playlist. Duh duh (rubbish that bores you to tears) You can’t dance to this, and it’s so frustrating in London that this is the norm. It’s like you have to fight for music that is elevating, fun, and of our generation—something that gets the people going! After some absolutely terrible music, she changed the tune and played bangers from the 2000s, and everyone went wild. The night became awesome. These clubs should take notice: the music nowadays is absolute rubbish, and it makes people want to leave. I don’t know why they don’t play what people want. I’ll never understand it. But in the end, it turned out to be a fun night—just took some asking.
