Great food, but service was lacking.

Lovely, cozy, consistently good. Staff is always so friendly and warm. I went with my family, we had lamb, chicken supreme and a beef and ale pie, everything was delicious.

We normally go to the Abbeville pub every two or three weeks for Sunday brunch, and they usually treat us nicely. In fact, I recently left a positive review about this place. However, today’s experience was completely different. Unfortunately, we mistakenly booked a table for the following day. We called the pub before arriving to confirm whether they could still accommodate us, which they did. When we arrived and asked about our table, the manager simply said “table 1” and then disappeared. However, there were no visible table numbers. When we asked for clarification, she vaguely pointed at a table. We politely asked if we could sit at a different table, but she abruptly replied, “No.” She also stressed that we only had the table they assigned for one hour, saying, “I told you already.” I understand they might be busy, but that doesn’t give them the right to speak to customers in such a rude manner. After being treated this way, we decided to leave without ordering anything. I understand that everyone can have off days, but this level of service was particularly disappointing.

The pub was light without blaring music. Best table in the restaurant and outstanding service. The flaw was the value for money for food. a tiny chicken leg and a few slices of carrots…. extra charge for yorkies and coliflour cheese. portion size was almost half of that of other pubs. The coffee was amazing !! Well done for not giving into these ‘ specialty coffees by local roaster but using a proper Italian blend. Loved the coffee so much. The service was outstanding. For these prices the waitress should get 30% of our expensive bill. But I do not think I will return as the roast was really taking the biscuit with regards to value for money

Good pub, bit spenny but standard for the area (if anything maybe even a little cheaper than others?). Great staff, super nice and welcoming. Locals are good as well. Though the South African fans were a little rowdy, but hey, that's character.

Gorgeous pub that always has a nice atmosphere. Food and drinks are great but always let down by the staff. I don’t think I’ve ever had a smile or a hello in the 6 times I’ve been there. They’re all so grumpy! We ate for the first time today and were berated by the hostess for being 15 mins late. Our fault for sure… but her delivery of the message was shocking and a terrible start to a meal. I have never been spoken to like that by a server before. Our actual waiter had the most condescending tone about him, and spent the entire meal complaining about the fact he had to work all day!! Mains came over and the table was still full with starter plates and empty glasses, BASIC standards. Such a shame as this pub really is a top location. Cannot fault the food, drinks or atmosphere but so much work to do on service/staff. Never once felt welcome despite being there countless times…

The Abbeville is a well located, local. Standard of service varies as does quality of food but, nevertheless a handy local.

We had a great time with friends and family, enjoying appetizers, meals and dessert, with awesome service and a very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere! Definitely would recommend and would like to go back!

I met my son for a special birthday lunch on a Sunday .We both ordered the roast beef . The vegetables were uncooked and no roast potatoes. The beef was tasteless and swimming in gravy. We were asked how we felt about the meal. I explained politely our disappointment.No response and we paid and left. Terrible service…

I am a regular, treated so bad today will never come back. Shame as it’s my local. I was kicked off my table as people ordered food to my table . This should have been questioned by staff. When I spoke to staff they just laughed. What a shame

Came here with some friends and their baby. The staff were fantastic in making sure the baby was safe, comfortable and they could still pass by easily. They were all incredibly attentive to fine details. The roast was really lovely too.

I booked a table for three for dinner. On arrival the pub was busy (it was the hottest day of the year), I was quickly shown to our table, all of the staff were friendly and attentive. We shared calamari, croquettes and olives as starters (all delicious). For mains my two friends enjoyed perfectly cooked steaks. I had the recommended chicken risotto, it was beautifully cooked, seasoned and presented. I look forward to returning soon 😊

Great bar, lovely location. It's like the tardis, way bigger than you imagine, but in little sections that make it all lovely to visit.

Quirky gastro pub with good and reasonably priced food. This is all in that beautiful part of Clapham that is like an oasis of quality.

Lovely family lunch - food and staff were amazing. We went for Sunday lunch with our dog too and the staff were so attentive to him, bought him out his own mini roast dinner. Super dog friendly and lovely people. Can’t wait to return!

Such a lovely pub with an amazing atmosphere. You can sit out on the street and it feels like being in Europe - I love it!

Nice decor, quirky pub /gastro ambience. Had a nice enough time on previous drinks only nights. Dinner with friend to celebrate belated b’days. Booking had not registered but not a prob. Plenty of space. Had disc offer for food reduction. Food ok as prices are reflective of area. Not overly impressive. Tasty but small. Service slightly over reaching esp the drawn out explanation that as food was discounted, the tip should be increased… seems I was lucky to get the last fish pie after the lunchtime rush. Left when couldn’t hear ourselves over three over excited fellow clients who drowned out the bar. Both experienced stomach issues later that eve. Maybe the bottle of wine, maybe the shared squid or goats cheese. Won’t rush back. Maybe we were just unlucky.

Just fab gastro pub with good selection of proper cask beer. Lovely french patronne. You won't be disappointed.

Cosy, warm, friendly and well located.

Armanda, Anna and the whole team are a complete joy to be around. They have sincere love for the bar, the locals and newbies. One of the best pubs because of the team’s commitment to their patrons. You must visit, the food is brilliant and the menu seasonally changing with strong thought. I’ll be going back very soon!

The Abbeville provided the perfect place for our staff Christmas party. Very well organised with names places and crackers to help everyone get their delicious food. The service was great and they kept the drinks flowing all night. Highly recommend this lovely pub.

All of us had complaints about the food. Didn’t enjoy the food. Roast potatoes were salty and the carrots were too hard as though not boiled through. The goat cheese tasted weird. Didn't enjoy the mulled wine. My friend's food was cold

Such a beautiful pub. Very cosy and festive. Great drinks & cocktail selection. Food was fine, but worth it for the festive atmosphere! Really recommend.

I love the atmosphere in this pub; it was really buzzing when we went last Saturday and this was a return meal following a great night out about a month before. The dining area has plenty of 'nooks and crannies' which adds to fun of the place. However, the food was disappointing (not so bad that it had to be sent back but just not that great). The starters were all good- no complaints here. The main courses were the problem. 2 of us had the sirloin steak which we both found was stringy, difficult to cut, even with steak knives, and chewy. 2 had pork belly which they described as having been 'nuked' and overdone. One had Sea Bream - 'fine but nothing special'. Although we were in the middle of the restaurant, I could feel a constant draught which I eventually realised was the aircon that we were sitting directly under. The other frustration was the staff, who were always helpful when you got hold of them, but were often out of sight around corners so that extra wine arrived after we had eaten our course, and the coffee arrived cool. So whilst we really wanted to enjoy our time there, it fell short of our expectations.

Shocking roast. Bad service. The roast was just shocking either cold or roast potatoes that were burnt and acrid. And you know the staff don’t rate it when they don’t even do a Curtesy check.

I’m a Brit, I love my gravy so I know a good gravy. Now that’s not to say that this review is all about the gravy, but, you know, bad gravy can make or break a meal! So took my mum here for lunch for her birthday. Mid week so very quiet. I had the leek and chestnut pie with mash, savoy cabbage and gravy. Mum had the steak pie, savoy cabbage with chips and gravy. Not a huge cabbage fan, but it was really nice! Both meals were both delicious, decent serve and well priced. We couldn’t fit dessert in, but the selection looked great. Would absolutely recommend and go back again.

Food was nice and service they put in a fair amount of effort. But they crammed us into a space where we ended up with some people eating from plates on their lap.

Very quaint, cozy neighborhood pup that’s clearly a local favourite. Went here for a Sunday roast and had a lovely time - the service was super attentive. I wouldn’t say the roast was the best I’ve had but wouldn’t deter me from returning.

In its 20 year anniversary, the abbeville has launched a 3 course taster menu for £20. The food is tasty, the staff are friendly and there is a wonderfully village feel to the place. Highly recommended.

Delicious lunch in the sunshine at this wonderful gastropub. The burrata with prosciutto & fig & honey chutney was scrumptious. Lemon sole with asparagus certainly hit the right spot too. Delightful friendly service as well - a great way to spend a lunchtime in Clapham!

Excellent, very busy so glad we had booked. Service was very efficient and the food excellent. Special set meal price excellent value.

Fab local atmosphere and food service

We had our daughter's first birthday drinks at The Abbeville. The staff went above and beyond to make it a special celebration. Food, drinks and service were outstanding.

Great local pub. Nothing to fault. Service was great and very accommodating. Great ambiance, great food. Lost the receipt, called next day and got it sorted immediately.

The bar was incredibly quiet yet we waited around 10 minutes at the bar and no one would serve us for a pint. We asked someone who worked there (fella with a manbun, working on Wednesday 9th August at midday) and he refused to help us. Kept saying he would be with us in a minute, in a very rude way, while he was only doing tasks that didn't need imminent attention, such as loading the dishwasher which could have done at any point. As someone who has worked in hospitality before it is common sense that you deal with waiting customers first, especially in a quiet environment. He was very rude in how he spoke as well. We ended up going to the Co op across the road and buying beers there. Really disappointing experience as our first time at the bar.

One of the best pubs in Clapham. This hidden gem not only offers amazing food but the service is impeccable. The staff is so friendly and always goes out of their way to accommodate us. We come here with our family a lot and so far we've never been disappointed. Keep up the great work guys!

Abbeville is one of my favourite local pubs with amazing food and a cozy nice atmosphere. Their good and friendly staff are always smiling… They do great cocktails and have treats for our little doggies. There is also colouring for kids. We just love that place, it feels like home.

I have been a customer at the abbeville for 5 years now and I’ve been always satisfied with the lovely food and the friendly service. As a new mum I feel so glad to have a place that I can go with my 4months old baby with out feeling anxious! I want to thank Armanda for calming my baby down when he was crying and letting me enjoy my food.

Good local place, usually popular and busy!

Awful service! We were at the pub all day and not once were out tables cleared, we had to do it ourselves a couple of times to not sit in such mess. The manager is very rude! A quote by her ‘it is not my job to clear up after your toddlers!’ Utterly appalling.

I went with family and friends to celebrate a birthday. As we had a toddlers we were told we had to clear up ourselves that it was not their job, which I am surprised about. the service was terrible and the manager was disrespectful towards us. I have never encountered such rudeness . I would suggest if you have toddlers and you are prepared to tidy up yourself then go, but otherwise find somewhere that is accommodating for families and especially young babies, toddlers and children.

This is my local where I take my son all the time and he get’s treated like an absolute king. Been coming to the Abbeville for almost 7 years and always experienced the most professional and attentive service from all of the staff. The food is always amazing no matter how busy they are. I will never stop recommending this place for families visiting the neighborhood. Big shout out to Armanda who does an excellent job running this little gem!

This is one of my favourite pubs in south London, I truly can’t fault them for anything. Food and service always top notch! Dog friendly, child friendly, suitable for all sorts of gatherings from birthday drinks with friends to family dinners. I am always greeted with smiles and kindness when I come in. 1000/10 would recommend

The manager is extremely rude and unprofessional! We booked an area for the entire day for a birthday, with children. Not once did a member of staff clear the tables, we had to do it ourselves. At the end of the day we were given abuse for the mess the babies made and were told we cannot make future bookings. I have never experienced such hostile behaviour and aggression from a member of staff in an establishment. The brewery not only condoned her behaviour but did not acknowledge any of the upset caused on this day. This is NOT a child friendly pub, nor is it pub where you will receive professional service.

Great spot on Abbeville road. Nice tables on pavement for quick stop before food shopping. Beer and service great, food was pretty good: calamari not crispy but nice squid, scotch egg was fine. Friendly, quick service and nice atmosphere. Would definitely return for a drink, and probably a snack if we were hungry.

Pretty basic Sunday roast. No cauliflower cheese, thinnest slice of meat. Roasted carrots were more like dried carrots. Yorkshire pudding was the only yummy thing there. We called to check if they were dog friendly prior to our arrival, also made a note in our reservation that we have a small dog with us. They said they are dog friendly but as soon as we arrived the lady said dog cannot go on seats they should be only on the floor and when I tried to say why didn’t they tell me over the phone she raised her voice and repeated that dogs can’t go on the seat. Anyways she was nicer after we sat down. The pub is lovely. But we won’t be going back.

This pub is great for an afternoon drink or to grab a quick bite. The interior is spacious and tastefully decorated. The food is decent, not very good but not bad either, it truly sits in the middle ! The service was alright but then again there was a lot customers so the rush was understandable. All in all a pleasant pub. Personal rating : 6/10

The Abbeville is a great local pub, with some of the friendliest staff starting from the managers Armanda, Agata, Krista and Anna. Big shout out to the chefs too who deliver top notch food every day The bar staff are awesome who have all gone above and beyond for us all who drink there. I’d highly recommend the pub. It’s the heart of the village. The owners of the group need to look after the staff as they make the place.

Fantastic service with pleasant staff. Surprisingly poor food. Chewy lamb roast swimming in gravy, undercooked beef had to be returned. The vegetables however salvaged a poor meal. Didn’t bother staying for dessert

I visited this marvellous pub on 21st April with my partner, niece, her husband and their young boy. We were seated in a perfect place (young boy) The service was excellent and they were extremely attentive of my great nephew. The food was tremendous. Please pass my comments to your team. We had a fantastic meal here last night with excellent service particularly from Angela! She has an incredible memory remembering exactly the order. What a great atmosphere you have and lovely to see the staff working so well as a team. I had squid to start and beef brisket which I rate as one of the best meals I’ve had. Melted in my mouth. We will return.

Tasty Sunday roast with a pleasant atmosphere and accommodating staff! Would order the bowl of roast potatoes next time as, although all the food was well seasoned and delicious, I was still a bit hungry afterwards. However we would like to return! Nut roast, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, cabbage, broccoli and gravy - £16.00 Guinness - £6.20 Garlic french beans - £4.00

Good Hearty lunch, service was okay but not as good and friendly as my local The Bedford in Balham.

We had a group meal at the Abbeville on Thursday and it did not disappoint! Great atmosphere and even better food. Also thank you to Anna who made us feel really welcome. We'll absolutely be coming back.
